Daniel,
Have you considered the possibility that the Tomas Macias Valadez you are looking for is son of Thomas MV and Maria Lopez de Lizaldi m. 13 sept 1659? The timeline fits. The only child that I got for this couple is Pedro MV who married Juana Ruiz de Esparza and had a child also called Thomas MV b.5 june 1681, who can't be the Tomas you are looking for. However, among Paco Romo's testament list, there are two testaments for Maria Lopez de Lizalde: #79 dated 25.08.1720 and #705 dated 29.04.1710. She must list her children in there.
Just an idea.

REQUEST FOR ADVICE

Hello to all friends from NuestrosRanchos:

I am about to start an investigation of the QUIRARTE genealogy of

Salvador,

I was in Nochistlan a few years ago when I walked into a book store and I was
able to find they had several copies of one of her books on Nochistlan.

I have one of those books but I believe it might be possible to find a copy for
you in Nochistlan. If you want, I can inquire with one of my cousins who still
lives there to see if he can find you a copy. You can contact me off-line about
this at, alliecar@pacbell.net

Your Ancestress was and is very famous in Mexico for the same reasons you just
mentioned, she had many academic accomplishments for a woman of her times. She
was also a champion of the rights of the indigenous people of Mexico and she
wrote extensively about their language and their traditions.

Because my family is from Nochistlan and because one of my surnames is Ruiz,
I've done a bit of research on Evelia Clotilde Quirarte.

Saludos,
Alicia de San Jose, Ca.

First, thank you so much for looking! I do appreciate it very much!

Second, I got my grandparents marriage information off of my Grandfathers Petition for Naturalization that he filled out himself.

I do know they immigrated to the U.S. in June of 1918, so my grandparents married a few months before immigrating.

Thank you for finding this!

With the information you provided, I looked for the image on PARES, and was able to find it.

The colors of the PARES image are not as nice as those in the book you located, but the scan provides more detail. Also, the file is not real large (only about 800 Kb). You can enlarge it significantly without much loss of detail.

To get the image from PARES go to http://pares.mcu.es/ParesBusquedas/servlets/Control_servlet?accion=100

In the box at the top of the search field labeled Buscar, enter the phrase "curatos de Nueva Galicia", but without the quote marks. Click on Buscar at the bottom of the page.

On the next page, under Archivo de Indias click on Mapas y Planos. On the next page, click on the text that begins with "Plano que", and on the next page, click on the box with the text "Ver imagenes" near the top. The image will then open in the next page.

A note ...

After I downloaded the map, I went back to the PARES iamge.

There are some control buttons on the left side of the image. I clicked the one that looks like a circle that is half white and half colored. The map then changed to normal colors. I could then download it in color!

My experience has been that translation of an entire webpage really never works well.

You best bet is to cut and paste the various parts. I did this an it worked. You'll need to do this page by page (or perhaps only a part of the page).

For civil birth records, it seems that the normal service this company provides is to get official copies for you. To correct a record is a legal process that they may not do, or you would to talk to them about specifically.

Can anyone tell me if Ts in the past looked like Fs sometimes? I've not

Sometimes it is hard to distinguish between a capital T and a capital F. It helps if it is a common name like Trevino or Talavera.

Dear Linda,
I have seen the TuTramiteEnMexico.com website. You probably do not need the translation of the entire site. We have had an English-Spanish-English translation business since 1992.
We can translate the parts you need. Or let me know exactly what you are looking for and I will devote some time to finding it and probably translating that instead, complimentary.
As for Google, as we say in Spanish, it is better than nothing.
In my experience with German documents from my maternal line, I used Google into both, Spanish and English, to try to make sense of it all, but I ended up hiring a freelance German colleage who works for us when we need him.

Try google language tools. http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en

The translation can be somewhat rough, but it is usually adequate so can you get a reasonable understanding of what is being said.

The site will also apparently do a whole webpage, but I've not used that; I just cut and paste the parts I'm interested in.

Consanguinity means a blood relationship. The definitions of degree vary somewhat by source.

In the Catholic Church, 4th degree consanguinity means 3rd cousins. If you do a google search, you will find articles with tables that illustrate the degrees.

Affinity, on the other hand, means kinship by marriage, ie, an "in-law." In the Church, Canon 109 states:

1. Affinity arises from a valid marriage, even if not consummated, and exists between a man and the blood relatives of the woman and between the woman and the blood relatives of the man.
2. It is so computed that those who are blood relatives of the man are related in the same line and degree by affinity to the woman, and vice versa.

The Church's Canon Law banned marriages within the fourth degree since about 1215, but dispensations were commonly given.

Sometimes the dispensation will give all the details of the relationship, sometimes not.

You're welcome!

It is always interesting to find these statements in the marriage records, as in this case. If the dispensation is with the matrimonial investigation there is always the hope that it will provide all the details. Some do, and unfortunately some do not. The dispensations are only sometimes filed with the matrimonial investigation (I looked for this one going back four months prior, but no luck), but sometimes they are elsewhere, perhaps with the diocesan records.

I've seen references that say there are sometimes actual family tree charts in the dispensations, but I've not yet actually seen one.

My experience is that the matrimonial investigation is about a month prior to the wedding, more or less. If a dispensation is needed, the process could start several months prior.

Hi Omar,

Great find on your great grandfather. I looking for same records for a Br. Lazaro Gutierrez de Hermosillo whow was ordained circa the early to mid 1600s. Did you by any chance order films for those years? Also, can you give an example of one the film numbers you usde so that I might be to able to order some from LDS.

Thanks,

Sergio Gutierrez

Comment

Wow, this was a great message. Was it difficult to find the record? Did
you need to look at many rolls of film to find it? Was there any kind of
index? How did you know to look at the 1855 year? I have a possible
priest relative (Cipriano Puente) in about 1865 from Huejucar but don't
know how far back in those Diocese records to look.

Very interesting message, wonderful contribution, thanks.

The records for the Diocese of Guadalajara are not indexed and the date ranges are widely overlapped. I looked through 14 films before I found the right one. Here are some tips that may help you narrow the search:

1. The records are batched according to the ordination date not the date he entered the seminary.
2. My great grandfather was ordained at age 30, so look a few years before and after this age.
3. The batches of records all have a cover page, making it easy to skim through the films.

In the batch, I found certificates of baptism and confirmation, completion of course certificates, many character witness testimonials and the correspondence within the diocese.

Good luck!

The best way for your friend to start would be to find out if there is a process for correcting errors in records. She should be able to find out by visiting the local registrar in the municipality where she lives.

If it is possible, it may require an affidavit or other document, such as a sworn statement, from someone who has personal knowledge of what the record should be. The local registrar should be able to answer this question.

Asunto: [Nuestros Ranchos] Copy of original civil record

The best way for your friend to start would be to find out if there is a process
for correcting errors in records. She should be able to find out by visiting the
local registrar in the municipality where she lives.

If it is possible, it may require an affidavit or other document, such as a
sworn statement, from someone who has personal knowledge of what the record
should be. The local registrar should be able to answer this question.

Moctezuma's Descendants

I've just posted a chart with six generations of Moctezuma's descendants, covering the period of about 1468 to the early 1600s. It is in the Files area under my name.

Maureen, you have De Alba's in your family tree. I believe we have some relatives in common.

My husband's 5th great-grandmother was Gertrudis de Alva, born 1745. She married Torivio Aguirre in Aguascalientes in 1763. He was born in 1743. Might she be in your lines?

Maureen,

Thank you for responding. We merge with Andres De Alba Reynoso. His father is Jose De Alba, and that is as far back as I go on the De Alba side.

errores gramaticas).
Saludos
Raquel
