My mother's name is
Nemecia.  Yes, with a c, and she hated the fact that people always told her
it should be spelled with an s, and that it was a man's name.  She and all
of her siblings were named after her saint's name.  In other words,
my abuelito would look at his Catholic calendar for a name when his child was
born.  He ended up naming two of his son's Alejandro because they were both
born on the same day, different years of course.

You mentioned custom plates;

My father's name was Nemesio, how common is that?
not very!  and my maternal granfather's name was Priciliano.  I am
John Gonzalez, or if you prefer, Juan Gonzalez.  My custom license plate
is:  1Gnzlz  (One Gonzalez) =sounds like Juan Gonzalez.  There
are four Juan Gonzalez in my great grandfather's line, I am number five.
 (Boring.  Lack of imagination? or just trying to perpetuate the
name ?)  None of my kids are named John.

My grandmother's half-brothers and half-sisters great-grandmother was a
Sandoval. My grandmother's father was married twice--the first time to
Ma. Eleuteria Tovar/Tobar. This woman's parents were Mauricio Tovar
and Petra Escovedo/Escobedo. Petra's mother was a Sandoval--maybe
Maria Theresa Sandoval. Marge:)

Agapito (Augapito) ought to be really glad he bears that
name!  Somebody loved him! That only means Loved One (from

Zenobio= Cenobio(a)

Senobio(a)= Zenon=Cenon(a)=Senon(a) a variation of the
same name which roughly translated means devoted to Zeus.

Also spelled Xenon, Xenona.  I have those and
plenty of Aurelios and Aurelianos in my family.

Hi Peggy:

Actually, "Peggy" is a nickname, a diminuative, for Margaret and what could be prettier than Margarita?  You really are a Margarita at heart.  And Margaret, I believe, may come from the Greek for pearl.  And margaritas are also lovely daisies.   Merry Christmas!

I think they're all awesome, strong names,
although I don't understand some of them.  To me, they're all unique and
very very cool.  I wish my mom had named me a typical Mexican name.....I've
never liked my name and got teased a lot.  Peggy, my name, sounds caucasian
(nothing against caucasians, but I would have like something more .....I don't
know....ethnic.......)

Merry Christmas everyone!

You mentioned custom plates;

My father's name was Nemesio, how common is
that?  not very!  and my maternal granfather's name was
Priciliano.  I am John Gonzalez, or if you prefer, Juan Gonzalez.
My custom license plate is:  1Gnzlz  (One Gonzalez) =sounds like
Juan Gonzalez.  There are four Juan Gonzalez in my great grandfather's
line, I am number five.  (Boring.  Lack of imagination? or just
trying to perpetuate the name ?)  None of my kids are named
John.

I agree, John.  That's a beautiful name.  I might be biased, though, for my great grandfather's name was Aurelio.

Have you noticed that Aurelio is one of the few names that contains all of the vowels?  (a,e,i,o,u).  Another such name is Eulalio.

I have a sister named Aurelia! and also had an
Aunt Aurelia.  I believe it it is a Latin word that means "Golden"
Aureliano should be proud to have a "Golden" name.

My mother in law, who was from Ecuador, had a middle name that was
Torribia (how terrible for her:))That was her mother's middle name.
She had a sister named Zoraida and another sister named Rosenda (not
too bad but still). Marge:)

face="Lucida Bright">Hey! My brothers name is Narciso . . . I love it! I think
its very unique. For a very long time my brother was very upset because of his
rather unusual name. Soooo many times people would pronounce his name wrong such
as: Narcisco, Narisso, & Narisco. Our grandfather was also Narciso (our
father name him after his father, of course!) but we didn't understand
where the name came from . . . Narciso means the same as Narcissus (flower &
greek mythology of the vain man) but as I continued to do my family tree I found
that the first "Iglesias" in Mexico Juan Bautista (originally from Spain abt.
1790 & my 5th grandfather) had four sons: Narciso, Juan, Francisco &
Nazario. The name just continues to go down the tree . . .
