Hi Gary

His testament might be here:
http://eservicios.aguascalientes.gob.mx/seggob/acervodigital/notarial.a…

but I have never gotten the links to the actual documents to work...

If you try the links and they work for you, let me know. Maybe I am doing something wrong or its my computer. But there are lots of documents I'd like to read which are listed at this site.

Hi Denis, Hi Gary

I think we are about to clarify some part of this family:

To start I just read the image of 1632 of the link you posted and it says the following :

So now we know that Francisca was one of the ten children of Fernando Sotelo Moctezuma and Juan was surely her brother.

We can be sure also that she didn´t marry and had no children.

Now, I have

Hi Carlos

I look forward to seeing the rest of the information you have on the family of Don Juan de Sotelo y Moctezuma. I have not found anything new since my last post.

Hi Gary and Edgar

I have not found a record of anyone in Aguascalientes with the surname combination Sotelo Montesuma. Earlier this year I was looking to find a clear connection between Petronila de Moctezuma and the Sotelos of Aguascalientes. I read in the Codex Chimalpahin (a tranlation - Codex Chimalpahin: Society and Politics in Mexico Tenochtitlan, Vol 1. p. 109 - 111) that Hernando Sotelo Montezuma, the son of Diego Arias Sotelo and Leonor Valderrama Moctezuma, had 10 children, of which five were listed in the Codex with their name:Diego,Leonor, Juan, Hernando, and Ana. The man who wrote the codex in 1619 said they were all Spanish because their mother was Spanish, and that the five unnamed children were living with their father in Michoacan. His wife was named Dona Maria Cervantes (from Andariegos y Pobladores - Nueva Espana and Nueva Galicia, by Jose Miguel Romero de Solis, entry for Fernando Sotelo Montezuma)

Maybe Francisco Sotelo was one of the unnmamed 5 children living

Hola Edgar,

Saludos

Hi Bill,

You have some details which are new for me, therefore I was wondering if you could post the links to the sources for:
1. Francisco identified as a native of Zacatecas
2. Clara identified as a native of Michoacan
3. Birth of Elena
4. Birth of Antonio

Every once in a while I tackle the old books from Michoacan, but the writing from the 1500s and early 1600's is really a challenge. Plus, the records are sometimes mixed up in terms of subject. So I was wondering if you could provide links to images for the above four people mentioned in your recent reply. Even with known dates, I think it would take me just about forever to find them myself!

Denise
