Well thanks for asking. I did a quick search and came up with the
Benson Library collection of maps in Austin:

see here for a nice looking map from 1653 of Nueva Galicia. Basically
it was the area we are studying in Ranchos as well as parts of several
other states. Can someone explain a little better than me about what
those other states are?

Galicia ? My ancestor (Macias) are said to be from Galicia, in Spain. I
presume that Nueva Galicia is in the new world but don't know where.
