I have seen name as Oropesa, de Oropesa and Lopez de Oropesa which is the same family.

My line ends at Joseph Lopes de Oropesa in Calvillo, Ags. before that not sure where he came from, he just pops up in

the records in the early 1800s. I have not found a marriage or baptismals for his kids. There kids were originarios de Calvillo.

Maria:

You are going to have to order the film from a family history center since whomever extracted the records did not list the grandparents' names in the children's baptism records nor the parents' names in the marriage records.

You should get in the habit of reading the actual records regardless (even when the information is online). You will be surprised how often the information is transcribed incorrectly or better yet how much more information there is in the actual record, such as padrino's names, short tidbits of information about the people, etc. which will not be in the extractions online.

Comment

Maria,

Your best bet is to order the film for Maria Eufemia Tinagera Huerta, film #0646894.
It should say who her parents and grandparents are.  You can also order marriages for San Felipe, Guanajuato, M608934, film # 0644414.  It covers years 1836-1843; since their first child was born there.  Also check and see if there is a "Informacion Matrimonial" for that time period.
Also I did find a Jose Andres Tinagero Cruz, ch. 9 Nov 1817, Jaumave, Tamaulipas, Mex.
Good luck in your search.

Yes I had the names of Andres and Maximian Huerta's children and I did see that
he married Maximiana Lopez in 1840 but that is kind of strange don't you think?

Both named Maximiana!!  It seems like the marriage did not last because his
first child with Maximiana Huerta was born in 1841 (Maria Eufemia Tinajear
Huerta born in 1841) and his first marriage was in 1840.  Unless this Maximiana
is the same person.  It has to be because he married on 02/24/1840 and had his

Family History Center "Under Pilot Search"  I am searching for Andres Tinajero and Macsimiana Huerta.  when I entered Andres Tinajero "Jose Evaristo Tinajero" his son pulls up and it says that Andres and Mcsimian are the parents which is good however....it does not lists Andres parents.  Then I go to Family History and put in the Batch Number or the Film numbre it brings up a list of people but Jose Evaristo nor Andress nor Macsimia pull up.  Shouldn't they pull up.

Hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

Here is the info I got from Pilot Search.  please help

The record in the film indicated often sometimes list the Paternal and
Maternal Grand Parents so you need to always look at the film for additional
information. You can also find notes in the margins that might lead you to
more sources.

When the extraction took place from whence the data comes from often the
Grand parents names were omitted even though they were on the record.

Good luck Maria,

Maybe I'm not understanding but for example:

Andres Tinajero's son (Jose Evaristo Tinajero Huerta) was born in the year 1844 so that means that Andres could have been born between 1820 and 1825. When I extract using the batch number C04152-5 the people that come up have a Christian Birth day between 1840 and 1843 so they can't be the paternal or maternal grandparents right?
Should it pull paternal and maternal grandparents with years between 1800 and 1820?

Sorry if I'm not understanding.

Also show paternal grandparnts will they be Evaristo of Andres?

Here's something else that may help.
Andres Tinajero y Macsimiana Huerta had the following children:
Jose Evaristo Tinajero Huerta, ch. 7 Nov 1844, San Felipe, Guanajuato
[C608916 (1843-1847) film 0644385];
Maria Melquiades Tinajero Huerta, ch. 17 Dec. 1842, San Felipe, Guanajuato
[C608915 (1840-1843) film 0644384];
Jose Feliz Tinajera Huerta, ch. 26 May 1850, San Isidro de Ocampo, Guanajuato

Ma. Leonarda Tinajero Huerta, ch. 14 Nov 1847, San Isidro de Ocampo, Guanajuato

Jose RemigioTinagero Guerta, ch. 11 October 1846, San Isidro de Ocampo, Guanajuato
[C606822 (1845-1852) film 0646895];

I also found a marriage that may or may not be:  Andres Tinajero married Maximiana Lopez in San Felipe, Guanajuato on 24 February 1840 [M608934 (1836-1843) film 0644414.

Both named Maximiana!! It seems like the marriage did not last because his first child with Maximiana Huerta was born in 1841 (Maria Eufemia Tinajear Huerta born in 1841) and his first marriage was in 1840. Unless this Maximiana is the same person. It has to be because he married on 02/24/1840 and had his first child 03/28/1841 that's 13 months and 9 months pregnant that leave 4 month in between just enough for her to get pregnant.

what do you think...now this is confusing.

I'm still trying to find Andres Tinajero and Maximiana Huerta's parents though.

I couldn't quite make out the handwriting in the death record of a
young child, but after studying it I decided it could only be "murió de
ojo". That didn't make sense so I looked up the many definitions of
"ojo" and guessed it might mean suddenly without apparent cause. Then
my wife told me that "de ojo" or "mal de ojo" was a superstition that
someone could be killed by a look, an evil eye, a sort of witchcraft.
Has anyone else run across this?

My mother always told us the story about one of my sisters who she felt had died from this and had someone do a "remedy" to prevent her from being sick. I think there were many old wives tales in our culture years ago and even though she told the story I don't think she really believed it. Also, my sister did die but probably from something else!

Stuart,

For what it's worth.  As a very young child I remember an old Mexican lady coming up to my younger brother, placing her finger in her mouth then placing that finger in my brother's mouth.   My mother, needless to say, jumped all over the woman.  She apoligized and explained she had the "Evil Eye" and this was  her way of  preventing any harm coming to my brother.   Surprisingly , my mother believed h er and later  expl ained to us  what happened and the superstition.

I think this is a very common belief. My mom tells a the story that
way back when she and her siblings were kids, one my grandfathers
workers thought one of my aunts was really cute and couldn't keep his
eyes off of her. Later that night she was really sick, according to
them the worker "le hiso ojo". They had to get him or the priest to
cure her.

Another story is that my mother as a teenager "le hiso ojo" to one of
her neighbors sons (who was 3 and dressed as a little charro or with a
cowboy hat and boots, very cute either way). He was very sick that
night and they called her to go cure him. Because of this my mother
always told us that when ever we looked at a child like that ("que se
te haga curiouso") to touch the top of their heads and their face so
that we wouldn't "hacerles ojo".

Hello All,
I have reached a road block with some of my research. I cannot find a birth record for my grandfather or the death record for his mother. The family story is that shortly after my grandfather was born in LosAngeles County in April 1926, his mother (Francisca Garcia) passed away August 1926. We do not know what from.

We have no records for her (death) or for him (birth). We do not know at this point where our great grandmother is even buried. There are confused records in the LDS. A member appears to have submitted incorrect data and the trail is lost until we find

Can you provide more info on your grandfather? I have helped others with their California roots and have found some births were not registered....I'm thinking due to children being born at home and also if they were new immigrants.

If you want Eugenio's grandparents, have you looked at the actual record on Labs? I doubt he was an only child this was very rare, a lot of people had many children during these years. Keep looking through the baptisms, the 1800s arent complete records on familydearch it usually tends to be the 1600s that are well documented and the early families. -Daniel

Information about forthcoming collections is not made available prior to publication due to various factors that can affect the publication time line, such as agreements with genealogical societies about the indexing of their records, final assembly considerations, space on the servers

Ruis de Esparza Questions

I am trying to identify some members of the Ruis de Esparza family.

George

I have the Nicolas you are talking about as Nicolas Salado who married Antonia Garsia de Nava on 12 November 1678 in Aguascalientes. The only two lines where the Salado/Esparza/Ruiz de Esparza comes from during this time period is from Agustin Salado aka Esparza/Ruiz de Esparza and Christobal Salado aka Esparza/Ruiz de Esparza.

I just looked up the marriage information on Nicolas Salado and on film 1671-1678 at the Pilot site, image 317 is Nicolas Salado, the son of Christobal Salado and Antonia Alvarado marrying Antonia Garcia de Nava, the daughter of Bartolome Garcia and Antonia de Nava.

As you can see this whole Ruiz de Esparza/Esparza/Salado thing is sooo darn confusing when I first came across it a couple years ago.

Thanks for the question.....I've been updating my notes and didn't realize I had him and had missing information as well.

Thanks for your help

By the way I just love this Pilot site.....the only site I know where I can wake up in the morning....go to the

Thank you for the reply, and the information. You confirmed my suspicion.

By the way, I am trying to make an index to the Aguascalientes matrimonial information files. I have posted the data for the 1600s (1666-1699) at

http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/18014

I am working in the 1700's now, presently on the film film for 1715/18.

The matrimonial information records are not complete, some years are missing, and they are not in chronological order, but if you find the record you need, they provide much more information than the early marriage records in most cases.

Hi George

I just finished my Marriage Information project last week on the records in Aguascalientes. It has taken me all summer to work on this project from 1666-1762. I have been trying to find my missing links and help my cousin with his. I still have a problem with one of my Gonzales lines but managed to solve 3 mysteries for my cousin....go figure.

You are so right about the films being a mess. Take for instance the film I'm looking at now.. 1692 which has 1695 in it and the 1692 has months that are not in order.

For people who are researching Teocaltiche and having a difficult time locating ancestors..... I would recommend looking at the Aguascalientes Marriage Information records. I was suprised to find sooo many Teocaltichians marrying people from Aguascalientes. I've seen people from Santa Maria de los Lagos, Asientos, Nochistlan, Jalpa, Sierra de Pinos, Jalos, San Luis Potosi and of course from Spain.
I was just having a field day with this project.

I wonder if the church in Aguascalientes was one of the major churches in the area, since so many people there are from other places. I've also noticed that sometimes you will find the matrimonial information records, but no marriage record, and you also have children for the couple.

It also suggests to me that people moved a lot.

One of the most surprising records I've found, was for someone who was from Manila in the Philipines.

So true George

In fact I found one such case this morning of Juan Tiscareno of Juan Tiscareno and Isabel Romo de Vivar. I had their son was married to Francisca Martin del Campo but could not find their marriage date....I found them in the Matrimonial Information of 1692 (image 340). And I wasn't even looking for them...I was looking for someone else.

I don't know why, but I have always been under the impression that Aguascalientes was the Las Vegas of its time....due to the thermal hot springs. Maybe its just me....but for such a small state a lot of people have passed through there.

Bill,
Thanks for the transcription of the land grant given to Pedro de Anda in August 1565. I wonder if this is a second land grant on the same year, as the other is identified as given in March 26th, and where it is said that his wife Beatriz is identified. I will try to contact the Ayuntamiento of Lagos, and see who is responsible for posting the historical review, and which were their sources.

Jaime Alvarado

Comment

Jaime,

I doubt that anyone would receive two land grants in the same year, as this
process involved not only the Audiencia Real de Guadalajara but several
other government entities in Mexico City and Spain. I think it is the same
grant, otherwise his wife would be identified on both of them (?). I think
the Ayuntamiento de Lagos is a good place to start the investigation.
Hopefully, they have a copy of the original land grant. The information I
gave you comes from documents archived at the Archivo de Tierras y Aguas
(now AHEJ) in Guadalajara and NOT from the original document. I also found
a land grant awarded to Capt. Esteban de Anda Altamirano "vecino de esta
jurisdicción, labrador y criador de ganados mayores y menores" but have to
check my notes for the date.

Incidentally, could you send me a copy of the History of Santa María de los
Lagos (now Lagos de Moreno). I was unable to download it from the website.

Bill,
About the Margarita Gomez, hermana of a 'Beatriz Castaneda', no idea. However, got me thinking about the possibility of a first land grant (March 1565) to the 'de Andas' to have been in Beatris' name (you made me realize that land grants were not only given to males), and thus the second grant (in August), to Pedro. Alternatively, your suggestion of Pedro arriving first, and marrying a younger Beatriz, also makes sense. However, would it be worth searching for a land grant in Beatris's name?

Jaime

Comment

Jaime,

That may be hard to do. I'm not sure who has the original land grants, but
I suspect they're at the Archivo General de la Nación in Mexico City (AGN)
and/or at the Archivo General de Indias in Seville. If nothing else, it
would be worthwhile to find out where they are and whether or not they are
indexed and accessible to researchers.

Bill

Comment

Bill,
Regarding the Margarita Gomez whose land record you found, there is a Gomez listed:

Julio 4 de 1597 La real audiencia de Nueva Galicia otorga merced de tierras por un sitio de ganado mayor (1,756 hectáreas) al español Diego Gómez Portugal para fundar lo que sería la hacienda del Saltillo de Velázquez (tomó ese nombre porque su tercer propietario fue el Capitán Jacinto Velázquez) cerca de la Mesa Redonda en Lagos de Moreno.

I wonder if there is a connection.

Hi Joseph:

There is a website called: Actaexpress.com in El Paso. They can get birth
certificates, marriage certificates and other legal documents from most
places in Mexico, for a fee, of course. The better alternative is to
contact the Registro Civil in Jerez, Zacatecas. I am sure Jerez has a
website with a directory where you can find a way to contact their office of
the Registro Civil.

Good luck.

Aguayo and Becerra

Trying to find information on Diego De Aguayo (birth abt. 1730) married Francisca De Becerra (birth abt. 1735) parents to Candido De Aguayo (Wife Maria Gomez De Mendoza).

Comment

Jaime,

I have compiled some information about Diego de Aguayo and Francisca Javiera
Becerra Contreras. However, I must warn you that I have not verified this
information, and that it should be verified using other sources.

I have Diego's parents as Nicolás de Aguayo and Juana de la Cruz González,
who married 19 Sep 1672 in Nochistlán, Zac. (LDS Film 0226724 Marriages
1627-1686 Nochistlán, Zac.) Juana was a native of Santa María de los Lagos,
Jalisco. Parents of Nicolás de Aguayo were Diego de Aguayo and Isabel de
Arisaga. Parents of Juana de la Cruz González were Juan de la Cruz and
María Andrea González.

Diego de Aguayo (m. to Francisca Becerra) had a brother named Nicolás de
Aguayo, who was baptized 6 Sep 1683 in Nochistlán, Zac. (LDS Film 0226646
Baptisms 1627-1686 Nochistlán, Zac.).

The parents of Francisca Javiera Becerra Contreras were Miguel Becerra and
Nicolasa de Contreras. Parents of Nicolasa de Contreras were Juan de
Contreras and Josepha de Saavedra, both from Lagos

Thank you very much Bill for the information on your findings. You might be correct. My Diego and Francisca sound like they might be a generation or two later. On the LDS FamilySearch Site, it shows them being born and married in Jalostotilan, JAL. There is one anomally. Francisca's last name is spelled Veserra. Don't know if this makes a difference. On the other hand, the grand-son Agapito Aguayo, his wife Narciza De Loza's grand-father was from Nochistlán, Zac. (born 1735). Thanks Again. At least I know now that I will need to look at Nochistlán, Zac. a little more closely.

I'm excited to find out! Do you have any idea, off the top of your head, where Bernarda was born? (I'm under the impression they're all from Zac.) Also, I'd like to see her parent's names, as that would possibly be the farthest back I've been thus far(!) I'm not sure what we need to know to make certain, but if you have any questions feel free to ask.

One thing I thought was interesting was her name spelled Nicolaza Vasquez (or Varquez in the entires, which must be a typo), which I always imagined to be Nicolasa with an 's'. Of course, in those days there probably weren't strong standards (?) not that its too important right now!

So Bernarda is your great or great-great grandmother?, you listed both =)
