I'm also partial to continuing with the Ranchos 2 idea.  I've worked with Myfamily.com before and it is a good site, but with everyone in this group familiar with the current Ranchos site I think it is a better way to go.

We are allowed 20,000 kb and are currently using 14,500 kb. We have a
little room to go but want to discuss this problem with you all.

I have a website at usgenealogy.net and the site owner said that I could
start up another webpage just for the group. We could use the page just
to post genealogies, but it wouldn't be private like the Yahoo site. But
it would be private in that only members would know the address. Well I
guess that's really not private as someone could just wander into the
site and look at everyone's genealogy. Or some future disgruntled member
could go and post the webpages address all over the internet.

We could start a second
YahooGroup called Ranchos2 and use the 20,000kb
of the files in that group to store genealogies but then everyone would
need to be subscribed to that group as well. . .a bit of a hassle but
not to hard to accomplish.

Does anyone have a better idea on how to get additional private storage
area for the group?

thanks,

joseph

I'm going to work on a Ranchos2 because I'm most familiar with how to do
that. The myFamily sounds good, but me being familiar with Yahoo gave
that option the nudge. I'm hoping it will be as simple as putting info
into the Ranchos2 file area and linking to it in the Ranchos1 Links area.

Here's what I need from everyone. In about 1 week I'm going to have the
new group up and running. I'm then going to subscribe everyone to that
group.

Soooo that means that if you take acception to me doing this you need to
tell me. Just a simple, "don't subscribe me to the Ranchos2 group" reply
will do.

thanks,

joseph

ps: this is not written in stone yet so if there are more options that
people want to voice I'm still looking for ideas. If we don't use them
now we might in the future.

Your idea sounds quite good.  I really don't think it would be too much of a hassle to have to register to the other site.  We should keep our private genealogies right here in Ranchos (1) and put other files and messages in Ranchos2.  But having the other site sounds like a perfectly good idea.

    Yes, I definitely would
like to keep our genealogies private.  I would hate to see our hard work
show up in someone's published work without our permission &
knowledge.  We've all worked too hard to see it all go public.

    How does My Family.com
work?  Although I like the keeping our genealogies in Ranchos 1 and all
other info in Ranchos 2 idea better.

My ever-humble opinion.  Since when has
a Jaliciense ever been humble?
