My mother's name is
Nemecia.  Yes, with a c, and she hated the fact that people always told her
it should be spelled with an s, and that it was a man's name.  She and all
of her siblings were named after her saint's name.  In other words,
my abuelito would look at his Catholic calendar for a name when his child was
born.  He ended up naming two of his son's Alejandro because they were both
born on the same day, different years of course.

You mentioned custom plates;

My father's name was Nemesio, how common is that?
not very!  and my maternal granfather's name was Priciliano.  I am
John Gonzalez, or if you prefer, Juan Gonzalez.  My custom license plate
is:  1Gnzlz  (One Gonzalez) =sounds like Juan Gonzalez.  There
are four Juan Gonzalez in my great grandfather's line, I am number five.
(Boring.  Lack of imagination? or just trying to perpetuate the
name ?)  None of my kids are named John.

There is nothing wrong with these names. Our ancestors apparently felt
these names were much better and different than the custom plate

I have a sister named Aurelia! and also had an
Aunt Aurelia.  I believe it it is a Latin word that means "Golden"
Aureliano should be proud to have a "Golden" name.

How about my dad's name?   Aureliano.  Almost no one knows
how to pronounce it, much less spell it.  He was named after my
grandpa.

Here is a list of names in MY family
tree:

Narciso

Zerefina (or Zeferina)

Leonisio

Tranquilino

Plutarco

Abundio

Blas

Deciderio

Germana

Romualda

Abato

Tirso

Dionicio

Casimiro

Sabina

Sinecio

I think they're all awesome, strong names,
although I don't understand some of them.  To me, they're all unique and
very very cool.  I wish my mom had named me a typical Mexican name.....I've
never liked my name and got teased a lot.  Peggy, my name, sounds caucasian
(nothing against caucasians, but I would have like something more .....I don't
know....ethnic.......)

Merry Christmas everyone!
