For the most part when someone says ''Es mi pueblo'' it's usually meant as in That's my hometown regardless if it's a city, rancho, town, municipality or other. In using this term of ownership most of those I know say it with such love and pride and they openly claim that place as their own just as the town once claimed you. Of course you know what they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder and if things would have been so great, our ancestors never would have left home in search of something better.

 

I think the same occurs in english when one hears someone talking of their hometown wherever it may be.
