I am almost brought to tears when I hear about you all making
connections. . .I just let my imagination go and think about how
hundreds of years ago [well in most cases one hundred and in some 2 or
3 hundred] our families were living their lives and knowing and
interacting with one another in the homeland. Then something happened,
maybe war, maybe economic circumstances and one or both families moved
away and the branches lost contact and never heard from each other
again until, until, until, Kitty and Rich Cortez one day [more like
many years of intense research] made a trip to SLC and did very time
consuming and intense genealogical research. Research that gave great
respect to our ancestors. Respect that basically said that they are of
great importance to us and that the product and essence of their lives:
"La Familia" was important enough to attempt in a small way to
reassemble and slightly realign, reform, piece together the fractures
that now divide us. And then Helyn Sparkman de Castaneda started diving
into her research. [I think she is also a cousin of mine because I also
am a Castaneda from Tlaltenango but maybe a couple more years down the
road will more clearly reveal this]. She with the same intent: to
repect her parents, grandparents, great grandparents: en total "La
Familia." was also trying to put things back like they were. She looked
into the records and did research and tried to see what records and
information was within her grasp to get short but intense glimpses into
the past. . .a past that appears to be so well hidden. Well in short
she saw the research Rich and Kitty were doing and compared it to her
own and made the connection. A buried chest of gold, a bag of diamonds,
a pearl of great price was found.



That which was lost is now found. El que se Perdió ahora es Encontrado.
That which was divided is now one. The family after many many
generations is back together again.



Call me hopelessly sentimental but I've been so so so much in love with
"la familia" that when i see us divided and then one again its a sight
and thought to behold. I'm so so happy for both of your families. I
wish we were close enough geographically so we could organize Fiestas
for when we find connections like this. I'd organize a party with
Mariachis and pinatas and get Steven to bring some of his Uncle's
Jalisco Tequila [i think those from Zacatecas wouldn't mind. . .would
you?].. I'd have elotes and carne asada. I never saw menudo at a fiesta
before but I like it so much that I'd at least bring a small pot. I'd
ask my sister to make some "real" tacos not like taco bells. Hijola
bailando and hablando y haciendo felis.



This is truely a cause for celebration. I hope this group can join with
me in congratulating these two members that didn't know each other
before but are now revealed que son de la misma sangre!
