Hello, I am new to the group.

I am researching my husband's ancestors.  His grandmother's mother 
was Maria Castula Aguirre, born in Enc. de Diaz, Jal in 1843.  Her 
parents were Jose Ysabel Aguirre (born 1809) and Maria Apolonia 
Martines (born in 1816).  Jose Ysabel's parents were Valentino 
Aguirre and Juana Marin.  His grandparents were Torivio Aguirre (born 
1743)and Gertrudis de Alva (born 1745).  They were married in 
Aguascalientes in 1763.  Maria Apolonia's parents were Patricio 
Martines (born around 1795 in Real de Asientos) and Mria Maxima Duron 
(born on Sept 11, 1792.  Patricio's parents were Julian Martin and 
Dolores Garcia.  Maria Maxima's parents were Felis Duron Esparza 
(born in 1748) and Ma. Josefa de los Reyes Roman (born in 1755).  
Felix's parents were Franco. Duron and Ma. de Esparza.  Ma. Josefa's 
parents were Jose Deonicio Reyes and Maria Josefa Roman.

I am 65 years old, retired.  We moved to Washington State from 
Silicon Valley in 1996.

I am new to the group.  I am researching the ancestry of my husband's 
grandfather Primitivo Garcia who was born somewhere in Jalisco in the 
late 1800's. His mother was Marciana Cervantes, born around 1871 in 
Encarnacion de Diaz, Jal.  Her father was Ysac Cervantes, who 
married  Maria Castula Aguirre, who was born in Enc. de Diaz on Feb 
27, 1843.  Ysac's father was Jose de la Encarnacion Talamantes, who 
married Dorotea Cervantes.  For some reason, Ysac took his mother's 
surname instead of his father's.  Dorotea's father was Juan Jose 
Cerbantes, her mother Juliana Rubalcaba.  The father of her husband 
was Jose Segundo Talamantes, the mother was Maria Dieguina.

I am 65 years old, retired, and we moved from Silicon Valley to 
Washington State in 1996.

I was hoping someone else would say this since I am new to this group. I am happy these people are communicating and moving on in their genealogy quest but I do not need to know about any of the details. Private email is the obvious solution and it is not clear to me why these people are not making use of it.

Felipe Neri is a compound or composite name that I've encountered 
frequently on my IGI searches.  I believe as some of you have 
explained that it goes after the saint Felipe de Neri. 

However, Neri by itself is also a surname, like Rodolfo Neri Vela, 
the first mexican astronaut.

-In the Catholic Church there is a St. Philip Neri (yes, he was 
Italian - I don't know anything more). Does this help?

This is correct. In Powell's book about Miguel Caldera he has a footnote:
"... This peso de oro común was the basic accounting unit of the royal
treasury in Mexico, and its value was 272 maravedis, divided into eight
reales or tomines of 34 maravedis each (hence, later, the "piece of eight"
and our "bit", one eighth of a dollar). " Thus it is 2 bits or a quarter of
a peso.
