Surname Guapalia?

I just received a copy of my great grandfather Teodoro de Alba's death
certificate which lists his mother's name as "Synthia Guapalia". The
informant was his oldest son. I have always been told his mother's surname
was Gonzales, but we have no documentation of this. Could Guapalia be a
misspelling of Gonzales, or is it a real surname?

One of my ancestors died in Texas and in his death certificate the "maiden name of mother" appears as Slogoudo or something like that, when in reality it was Elizondo. I guess they were not familiar with the surname and just wrote down whatever they thought they heard.

Hi Steven,

I think Guapalia is a first name no a last name. It could be Cinthia "Gudelia or Guapalia (her middle name)". Very likely the document that you have doesn't include the last name

You may be right Susana, however the death certificate reads: "Mother's maiden name".
