What were the population estimates for La Barca, Jalisco in the 1800's, or for the state of Jalisco. I am interested to know how the population explosion of the past 30 years has led to such a lot of different people from other parts of the country. To all those interested in a book of marriage dispensations from
Guadalajara, there is another book called "Index to the Marriage
Investigations of the Diocese of Guadalajara, 1653 - 1750" by Raul Guerra,
Nadine Vazquez and Baldomera Vela Jr., Edinburg, Texas 1989, Library of
Congress catalog card number: 90-93092.

This book is also out of print. I believe it is written in English, but I
don't have a copy. Does anyone out there have one?

Due to the slow turn around time at Salt Lake for ordering microfilm. I have started to order the documents I need. It takes about 2 weeks to get the copies. I ordered 3 microfilmed rolls and now it's been over 2 months. They are running very far behind....I had heard about 6 months behind.
I first check familysearch.org and obtain the necessary information on the person I want the document on and use form: "Request for Photocopies-Census Records, Books, Microfilm, or Microfiche"

Yes, people at my family history center have been waiting very long, months
at a time, for films to arrive. But, I hesitate ordering more, because the
last time I did so, they all arrived the same week! In April, I got one I
had ordered back in October, one from December, one from February, and one
just a week before that. Very unpredictable. Yet, I get impatient, too,
and did it again. I have five films I am waiting on now, two on back order
for the past month and a half.
I was told that Salt Lake is not making copies of the films like they were
before, so we are waiting on those copies that are in circulation to be
returned first before the next person can get it, like a public library
system. Still, I can't complain. I am very grateful for the family history
center being available to the public and I just love all the people there.
Someday, it will all be digitized, I have heard. So, in the mean time, I
use my waiting time getting caught up on other things like internet
research, compiling photographs, writing biographies, etc., things that I
don't have time for once the films arrive.
I thank-you, Rose, for letting us know about the other way of obtaining
copies of documents.

stellar materials that make up the Jay I. Kislak Collection at the Library
of Congress. Kislak amassed thousands of items related to early Florida, the
Caribbean, and Mesoamerica, and subsequently donated over 3,000 of these
items to the Library. This online exhibition affords interested parties a
taste of these materials organized into three sections: "Pre-Contact
America", "Explorations and Encounters", and "Aftermath of the Encounter".

Hi. My name is Irene Garcia Sandoval, and I joined NR about 3 months ago.

Due to family demands, I have not been as active as I intended to be, and have not been able to spend time at the NR website for a while. Last week I has some time and tried to log on and bring myself up-to-date, but could not get in. I've tried every possible password I could think of, but I must have used a very special one and now I can't remember it! I have sent off at least a couple of requests for help from the website, but have not gotten any response. If this is not the right place to try to get help, can someone out there let me know what I have to do to either get my password back or get a different one? Hi Juanita,
Yes, your daughter should have the same mtDNA as you, your mother,
grandmother, etc. all the way back to your "ancient" mother. MtDNA
is passed down from mother's to all their children. The daughters
then pass it down to their children. (Men do not pass down mtDNA)
There is the possibility of slight differences due to mutation and
heteroplasmy, but that is for another discussion.

As for a "European mother somewhere along the line," it depends on
what line you are referring to. If you are referring to your mtDNA
female line, it will be the same all along the line. Remember, your
mtDNA does NOT include any male Y-DNA or it's influences. Also, the
mtDNA tested for genealogical purposes is not all your DNA. The
parts normally tested for genetic genealogy are the Hypervariable
Regions, sometimes called the Control Region in scientific papers.
That region is much shorter, has no genes, and mutates more frequently.

If you are referring to the possibility of a "European mother"
somewhere in your father's line, it would not show up in his Y-DNA.
If your father's mother were European his mtDNA would show her
European mtDNA, since men have both Y-DNA and mtDNA. But only your
mother's mtDNA would be passed down to you, not your father's mtDNA
(and therefore not his mother's mtDNA).

If you had your mtDNA tested with FamilyTreeDNA, join a group that
matches your results. Also join the Newbie DNA list at DNA-
NEWBIE@yahoogroups.com. There are very knowledgeable people who will
answer your questions on this list.
