Hello, I am new to the group and in the process of researching my father's family (Diaz) which is from Tepatitlan De Morelos, Jalisco. I have included what I know so far. I am still awaiting some records from the Family History Center. I will also be researching the Luna line in Mayahua De Estrada, Zacatecas as my father's mother was a Luna. I just wanted to post this message in case anyone just happens to have some information and/or I can be of any help in the future. Also, If I should post this information somewhere else, let me know. I also have this information entered into ancestry.com. Thank you for your time.

Went by Joe Diaz. Farmer and Bootlegger. Born in Tepatitlan De Morelos, Jalisco, Mexico.
Documents: Civil records from Tepatitlan, maintain original document, show a Jose Ma. Diaz was born on July 5, 1896 to a Julio Diaz and Romana Nario. These same records also show the parent of Julio Diaz to be Encarnacion Diaz & Regina Ramirez and the parents of Romana Nario to be Juan Nario and Gregoria Camerena. Married to Juanita Magallenas Luna who, according to original Civil documents from Mayahua De Estrada, Zacatecas, was born on January 6, 1904. While in the U.S., she maintained a DOB of December 7, 1903. She died in March of 1903 in Sacramento. Have not committed to her genealogy but have been able to determine that her mother was named Albina Magallanez -1867 (Zacatecas) –1941 (Salinas, CA). and her father was named C. Florencio Luna who was born in 1868 in Mexico (Zacatecas).

4. Julio Diaz (abt: 1850) - Not sure of DOB, have ordered Micorfiche through the Mormon Church. Through Familysearch.org, have been able to determine that a Julio Dias Ramires was christened on April 15, 1850 in Tepatitlan De Morelos, Jalisco, Mexico. His parent were Encarnacion Diaz and Regina Ramires. Batch # C603712, Source Call # 0218458.

Katy we had discussed who the parents of Teresa Carlos de Godoy in Jerez, Zac were and this dispensation for her daughter Gertrudis Fernandez to Francisco Acuna to marriage shows her father. Mystery solved.

Saludos a todos, les tengo una pregunta: en la epoca colonial era costumbre ponerle a los apellidos con "de", como mi ancestro José Doroteo de Castro, español de las Barrancas de Zacoalco de Torres. Su apellido materno de Doroteo era "Solórzano". Mi pregunta es si en esos tiempos se les pondría o se les consideraba como "José Doroteo de Castro y Solórzano"? Tambien como sería la forma correcta de escribir esos apellidos?

Mi otra pregunta es de los apellidos matrimoniales que normalmente se usan con "de". Tengo entendido que en los tiempos del virreinato a las mujeres no se les agregaba el apellido del esposo. En que tiempo se les empezó a poner el nombre matrimonial a las mujeres?

Como mi tatarabuela Sabina Villalvaso Corona quien se caso con mi tatarabuelo Ignacio Castro Rodríguez, sería "Sabina Villalvaso Corona de Castro" o "Sabina Villalvaso de Castro". Se casaron approximadamente en los 1850s. Se les puede referir con su apellido de matrimonio?

Hola Primos!

As many of us have found out, there are lots of us with ancestors who came from the "Antiguo Obispado de Michoacán". The old Obispado de Michoacán covered a vast area; Guanajuato, San Luis Potosí, Michoacan, Colima, and some towns close to the Jalisco/Michoacán border (La Barca, Ocotlan, Poncitlan, Tamazula, etc). I've explored some of the records from the old Obispado de Michoacán that are up on familysearch.org, under the church records for Morelia. They are a veritable treasure trove! However, there's no indexes that I know of, are there? That said, I have some questions:

Is there any interest in getting the records indexed in similar fashion as to what www.guadalajaradispensas.com and Guadalajara Dispenss.tumblr.com are doing?

Has anyone else indexed the records or started to?

If there's interest and no one has indexed the records, would folks be willing to lend a hand with some of the indexing?

hmmm first time I saw that it was referred to as the Rio de Coculiten
and not just plain Coculiten. in another record it is called Ranchos de
Cuculiten.

I was just looking over a 1752 record of Clofia Diaz being baptised
whose parents were my GGGGGG grandparents: Bicente Diaz and Maria del
Carmen Rodrigues. My question is more about the padrinos: Does this
couple ring a bell for anyone:

Francisco Damacio Rodrigues and Fermina Laurelia Pinedo ? I know some of
you are doing Pinedo research and though this couple might provoke a
comment.

I recently took an Ancestry.com DNA test and when I got the results I was a bit puzzled. From my research I was expecting mainly Spanish, Native American and maybe some Mediterranean traces but I was surprised to see a high percentage of Great Britain 25%. Has anyone else from the Jalisco region received similar results?

Good morning primos!
The present post is to ask for help in my Ponce de León line.Though this branch of the Ponces doesn't appear yet to be related to families in Nueva Galicia it may end up being the origin of some or many "de León" families.
I descend from Hernán Ponce de León who married María de Pardo in Valladolid Michoacán in the end of the XVI century; this Hernán das the son and the grandson of two other Hernán Ponce de León.
I've found a good amount of information about a very dynamic conqueror by that name, this one participated in the conquest of several countries and went back to Sevilla a very wealthy man. The chronology and some other things fit well for him to be my first Hernán but can't proove it yet. Has any one here researched the Ponces de León?

When you open your April issue of Somos Primos, you will see a husge photo of the U.S. Army’s all Mexican-American Infantry Unit.

The 141st Regiment traces their roots back to the Texas Revolution and is the longest serving unit of the Texas National Guard. The 36th Division or T-Patchers as they were known spearheaded the Allied landing at Salerno Italy. The unit saw action at Mount Rotondo, San Pietro and one of the most controversial and deadliest battles of WWII, the crossing of the Rapido River. In a span of forty-eight hours, the 36th Division lost over two thousand men at the Rapido River in January of 1944. It became so controversial that after the war a congressional hearing was held to see if actions should be taken on those who were in command of a unit that lost so many American lives.

I remembered that in the 1980s, a friend Alfred Lugo, had written a script about that unit, the Men of Company E. Alfred was working at KOCE in the 1970s at the same time I was teaching at Golden West College.

I am suggesting that in May, we have two dates at which it would be appropriate to present the Men of Company E,El Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) and Armed Forces Day (May 20th). It could be done as a Reader's Theater in the classroom for (U.S. History, Social Studies, English, Theater Arts, and Chicano Studies).

I called Alfred last night, asking if the script was available. He said, I was the second person that very day that asked about the script. I told him, he was ahead of the time, and now was perfect timing.

my research, searching for my half sibling ancestors at Totatiche Jalisco provided me
with a birth record of her great grandmother. in the sentence indicating raza, it had Indigena-Blanca. does it mean that she was a mestiza? Other findings I have founded were either Indios/as, mestizos/as or espanol/a natural if born in Nueva Galicia, so the term indigena-blanca is new to me. Can anybody clear this for me. Thanks. Question regarding my 4th Great Grandmother Manuela Bobadilla' Parents. I've only been able to find her Defuncion Record from 6-19-1828 from Atolinga. It states her parents were Gerardo Bobadilla and Rita Contreras. When I research further I can only find Gerardo Bobadilla married to Rita Saldana. Do any Bobadilla descendants in the forum know if its the same Rita.
Manuela Bobadilla was married to Valentin Delgado.

Can anyone tell me where I can find records of indigenous family members in Mexico. I know there are some listed in the regular archives such as the LDS family history library but is there any other form of registering births, deaths etc of indigenous people of Mexico?

Would anyone be able to take a look at the record of Jose (at the bottom left of the page) and tell me what are the names of his grandparents? I can't the paternal grandmother's last name, I think her first name is Lucia, and I can't decipher his maternal grandparents' first names aside from his grandmother's Garcia last name.

Does anyone in this group have Haplogroup N.?
On the Gary Felix site there are only 4 people with this N.

I had my maternal Uncle Louis Gutierrez do the DNA test in 2006 and and he has since died. At that time they did not do an ethnic breakdown and after all this time the sample is too degraded to do it now.

All of the match's have been from Finland, Sweden, Russia and China but none from Mexico even though I can trace this Gutierrez line back to 1650 in Michoacan.

I was reading a death record from Mexico City and it said the person (a female) "fallecio de fijo". She was 30 years old. What is "fijo"?

Twice I have tried to trace back my last name past 1862, but every time I arrive at a dead end. While I have been able to trace my parents’ other last names further back (Ruiz Velasco, Aguirre, Aguirre), Ramos still remains a mystery for me, and thus I turn to you.

The man in question is Inocencio Ramos. Inhabitant of Sayula, Jalisco. I have struggled to find his birth certificate in order to discover who his parents were.

What I know:

His wedding certificate dated August 24, 1885 with Eligia Alvarez (Padilla). It says he is the legitimate son of Maria Merced Ramos and an unknown father. It says he is 22, putting his birth year in 1862-63. It says Eligia (23) is older than him.

Eligia’s baptismal certificate has her being born in December 1862. Inocencio must have been born afterwards.

Here is where it gets tricky. As follows are the birth certificates of Inocencio and Eligia’s children. They are important mainly because I want to know who Inocencio’s father was.
