1. Enter Archivos Espanoles en Red
You will need to create an account if you do not yet have one. Go to
http://www.aer.es and click on "Alta de Usuario". Fill in all of the
required information and when you reach the last fields "usuario" and
"contrasena" make sure that your username/usuario is no longer than 10
characters... one of the many arbitrary restrictions of the site.

[[[[[[[[[[[[Arturo its been a long time and from what I remember it was
more challenging that this to get started.

Here is the url that give more details on the Subscribing process:

2. Log into AER and find document
Log in using your username and password. You must click on the "Aceptar"

text under the password field. Simply hitting enter will not work.
Once
logged in mouse over the "busqueda" menu heading on the upper left.
Click

on the "Busqueda por Signatura" heading on the third box from the top.

3. The "Busqueda por Signatura" box will open up. In the "Signatura
Incompleta" field, enter "SGU,7015,2" and click on the "Buscar" button to
the right of the "Signatura Incompleta" field.

4. When the document appears, click on the camera icon to its right.
This will

open up the document image in a new window.

5. If entering names, proceed to step 6. If entering text, proceed to
step 7.

6. When entering names, the prefered format is in an Excel file where
each of
the following fields are entered in a separate column with one row
per name.

Rancho/locality as well as page will obviously be repeated for a large

number of rows, so they can simply be entered in the first row for
the page

or locality (i.e. when the page or locality changes). The number is the
position on the page in which the name appears (i.e. 1 through 75, etc.)
If you enter the names sequentially, simply enter "1" for the first name

on the page and you can leave the remainder blank. There is a
fucntion in
Excel to fill in fields in a numerical sequence that you can use to
fill in.

  FIELDS

FirstName, LastName, Calidad, Age, Locality, Page, Number

[[[[[[[[[[can we switch the position and make it "Age, Calidad" to be
consistent with the census? Look at my Excell file and see if I have it
right

I didn't understand what the Number field is? Also I'm not sure about
the underscore. seems like the underscore will get lost in the excell
file]]]]]]]]]]

"Calidad" is the race/caste often abbreviated (e.g. "Y" for "yndio")

"Locality" should be the smallest jurisdiction, i.e. "Rancho de las
Animas"

7. For undecipherable words, use three underscores "___". When beginning

transcription of a new page, leave a blank line, enter the new page
number

in parantheses (e.g. "p. 14 verso"), another blank line and proceed. The
text can be entered in any word processing or text editing software.

8. When completed with a section, upload the file to this folder with a
title

that is indicative of the pages which it represents, i.e. "pp90-100.xls"

[[[[[[[[Ranchos is too full so we need to move this message and then
later the completed Census to the Ranchos2 Files area]]]]]]]]]]]
