yes you can get great quality with a digital. i use a 3 (but these days
a 4 or even 5 might be better for the same price around $300) megapixel
camera with a very small portable tripod. I set it with no flash and
the setting of the camera set for close up (called a macro setting--get
a camera with a good close macro setting in the order of just a couple
of inches). I even have a set up where in the reader I bought a no
glare piece of art board cut to the size of the reading area and I put
a regular binder under it so the triangle shape of the binder elevates
the art board toward me and the angle is not so sharp on taking the
picture.



I have some pictures of this tilt set up. . .the files are large and if
you are interested email me and I'll email them to you.

were taking pictures in  the same way. They had a big digital camera,
and a tripod.  I was very interesting about your remark because of
course the potential savings, but more important, many times the
images are better in the reader that in the photocopy machine (I guess
is the lighting). I don't know anything about digital photography. What
is the quality of the images?, What type of camera you should have? 
What features your camera should have? Any tips? Do you need the
tripod?.
