Cool, since the subject is moving toward Soap I have a question. I make
soap, you know a little lye, a little h20 a lot of lard/fat/oil

well anyway my Tia Julia told me that Abuelita Virginia Diaz (dob: 1886
Close to Santa Maria de Los Angeles, Jalisco) used to also make soap
but she didn't know her recipe. Being that my grandmothers mom came
from the Tepetongo area but lived many years in Jalisco I'm kind of
"assuming" that is where the soap making ability/teaching came from.

So do any of you know if your grandparents or g-grandparents made soap?
If so do you all have one of their recipes? Do you recall where they
got their Lye or did they make it?

thanks,

joseph

If you can get it in your area, try to watch a novela called
'Alborada".  It's a historical

novel about Mexico during the early 1800s.  It'll give you a good idea
of Mexico during that

time. There are other historical novelas about Mexico you can either
get on tape or CD.

Elvira,

I am interested in your historical novel and other historical CDs. What
source do you use to

purchase these items? I could not find "Alborada" on Amazon or Libros
Latinos.

Thanks,

Ed
