A friend of mine sent me this link to an article that appeared in the LA Times. It's about the resources that the US goverment provides for genealogy research.
Thank you; this will be very helpful. Will definitely check this out!

Greetings Group,
Just yesterday I was thrilled to find some ancestors on the NR site under GEDCOM, Zacatecas, Zac. marriages dating 02/21/1607. Did I miss a film number? For my record, do I indicate NR website, etc. for documentation? Thanks so much for help. Alice
Thanks KANAKALELE (sorry, don't know your name) for this information......I didn't know this existed. There's an uncle who disappeared after coming to the US in the late forties, early fifties and nobody's heard of him since.

Hola a todos,
Agradeceria cualquier información adicional que pudiera ayudarme a seguir construyendo mi arbol genealogico MATERNO.
1ra Generación
has anyone from this group posted on Familysearch.com a marriage record for:
Doroteo de la Torre
spouse:
Magdalena Menchaca
Armando,en mi opinion solamente hay una Juan De Villalobos casado con Petronilla Galvan o Antonia Petrona Galvan.
Just a FYI....I haven't seen any postings regarding the move of the digitized Mexico records.
does any one knows how I can obtain some record for Guanajuato? I am looking
for some census records from Morelia from the 1700's?
I will like to extract daata for this state if you can tell me how can I do
that.
Please Help.

Rose what kind of extraction for Aguascalientes, Im currently working on two books I plan to author sometime next year.
One will be extractions for 17th century of Aguascalientes and a lengthy analytical monograph and the other book
is about my maternal family Perez de Camino. So much to work. Im almost done with extractions, well sort of around
half way but much work is still needed. Im with Fondo de Cultura Economica in Mexico for both books. I'll let everyone
know when they are published and ready to sell its supposed to be a big hit in Mexico, we'll see about that, maybe
the Aguascalientes but my Perez de Camino is more personal using all the records in our Archivo Familiar that span over
500 years of family history and catholic church and colonial government records to assist me, basically a huge "monografia
genealogica"
Back to work.....

Thanks for the update. I have found the Beta site very difficult to navigate, but I guess if all of the records are being transferred there, I better get used to it!
Esther Reynoso Valencia
facebook.com/esther.r.valencia
As far as the digitized records are concerned it is actually better since
each collection now has it's own URL making it easier to point someone to
it. The URL for all of the records for Mexico is
https://beta.familysearch.org/s/collection/list#page=1&countryId=1927078
As far as searching I agree because I search for someone and I put place of
birth and place of death as Mexico and they give me results for Costa Rica.
They obviously have a lot of tweaking to do.

Armando,
On the beta website, I couldn't find a place to choose gender, and it seems to disregard the specifics I enter, like parents names and even time frame, resulting in thousands of entries. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks so much, Alice

Alice, I apologize I hadn't stated what I was in agreement with in my
previous statement. Basically I was agreeing that the Beta site is difficult
to navigate and the searches provide results we aren't looking for. So no,
you aren't doing anything wrong. The website just isn't useful in its
current state as far as searches are concerned.

I agree with Alice, and with you. In its current stage the Beta site needs "tweeking". I have tried to do my part by entering and arbitrating Mexico records.

Esther, I also found it less user friendly.....I informed my cousin of that fact as he has tendency to get frustrated easily.
Good luck on your work Daniel. I've worked on various extractions, most not published. It is time consuming work....especially the editing....
Armando, I'm glad that the sites have their own URL....I hadn't noticed that...I was just glad I found the records...but yes, it is helpful when instructing someone as to the location of the records.
Happy researching everyone!

Hi Esther,
I am hoping to start ordering some records through this service. How long does it take?
Im still continuing my genealogy and have these dates where I am able to extend my
tree but i am not ready to stasrt certain areas. I thought I can at least keep extending
through this service I have around 17 marriages I am able to order and at least go one more
generation thanks to IGI. But its pointless to order the whole film since Im not going to
look through the whole thing yet. Im still researching Calvillo, Tlazazalca and Zamora.
Hoping to start soon on Aguascalientes and Pinos, Zac. I have many states:
Chihuahua, Jalisco, Zac, Aguas, Guanajuato, San Luis Potosi, Michoacan, Durango,
COlima, DF, Queretaro, Nuevo Leon. Im busy. Plus Portugal and Spain.
Thanks, Daniel

Hello Everyone,
My name is Jesus Sanchez and this is my first post to the Nuestros Ranchos website. I have been concentrating my research to my paternal Sanchez side of the family for several years and have hit the wall at my GGG Grandparents Justo Sanchez and Perfecta Gonzalez. The only record of them is that they are listed as the grandparents of Jose Nabor Sanchez, born in 1825. I've listed the first two generations of my tree. I did find a record of my GG Grandparents wedding date but have yet to order the film for this record. Does anyone know how to request an actual copy of the marriage certificate from the church or city? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Jesus
Generation 1
1. Justo Sanchez-1 was born in Mexico.
Perfecta Gonzalez was born in Mexico. Justo Sanchez and Perfecta Gonzalez married. They had the following children:
2. i. Simon Sanchez was born in Mexico. He married Maria

I was wondering if anyone knows and can help me in "how to" download gedcom records to my computer.
You can't download other peoples Gedcom files other than your own. That
is a safety feature to protect everyone's extensive gedcom info. Maybe
I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that is the reason why.
What I would suggest is to find the person who authored the specific
gedcom you are interested in and contacting them. I would then request
that they send you the gedcom file in which you have interest.
that might work,
joseph

He is talking about going to the Films tab then clicking on an IGI for one
of the locations. That actually takes us to the FamilySearch.org website
where we can download baptisms and marriages found there.
Joseph de Leon, I just tried it with IE and I experience the same problem.
If you click on [refine search] next to [Print] you will see a download link
that will let you download the gedcom file you prepared. Let me know if that
works for you. I didn't have to go through all of that with Firefox and
Chrome probably would have been just as easy as Firefox.

I need help.
Maria,
Your subject says Cortez Alvarado but the content of your message doesn't have
anything to do with Cortez Alvarado. It might be useful to change the subject to
reflect the actual content of the message so that people perusing their e-mail
would readily know what to expect.
