Hello Everyone,
Though my family ties are not from the states that are usually
mentioned here, I want to learn from and hopefully help others trying
to research their Hispanic roots.
I've noticed a couple of members who have like surnames and
desperatly hope a link can be established. The names I am researching
at this point are: de la Garza, Noriega, Flores and Gonzalez.
My grandmother was Carmen de la Garza de Gonzalez. She was born
in Chihuahua City in September of 1878 to Melchor de la Garza and
Lucrecia Flores. Other siblings were Rosa ( born in Rio
Florido,Sonora, Aug 1884), Melchor, Philipe, Pedro and Jose Maria.
I'm afraid I don't know any of the men's dates of birth or the
parents.
Carmen married Jose Federico Gonzalez (date unknown) who was
possibly from Gomez Palacio. Their only surviving child was my
grandmother, Maria Luisa Gonzalez who was born about 1909-1913 in
Gomez Palacio, Durango, MX.
Rosa de la Garza married Timoteo Gonzalez (date & location
unknown). Their children were Evagelina (born 1912), Genoveva (born
1914, married Franciso Rios), Pedro (born 1909) and Jesus (born 1910)
Evagelina came to the states on July 19, 1923 at El Paso and I
think her mother Rosa came at the same time. Carmen crossed over in
Nogales in January 1927 according to her immigration papers.
The few facts I have have taken several years to gather because
my family was always so closed mouthed about their past. As a matter
of fact, for a long time I thought they were illegals. I was put
straight on that matter quite quickly! The only thing I know about
Lucrecia Flores is that she died in the flu epidemic in 1918 in MX.
I recently acquired some family pictures which might explain all
the secretness. I believe they are of battles in the Cristero
Rebellion. In them are photos of several men carring Craig
rifles,some pointing at the cameer, rancho ruins with a large group
of soliders in front of it and interesting looking mesas with
soliders laying on some with guns pointed outward. One man is
dressed in white and looks woulnded supported by two other men.
Names listed on the back are Jesus Flores, Alejandro Feyida, Jose
Gomez and others that are hard to read. One is dated 2/18/29 and just
says Canyon Seco, Sonora. Another has Comp. Flores, Rancho de Canas
and mucho muertos, dated 3/15/1929. Alejandio Feyda hindo y muerte 2
