Dear Primos:

You will find in the April issue of Somos Primos eleven articles with DNA information. I think you will conclude that those of us in the Americas with Spanish heritage, connect with every racial and cultural group in the world. Wonderful to observe that many Latinos have being moved, inspired, and directed to search out family roots. We now have physical proof through DNA of those some time surprising global connections, however, evidence that we all . . . . really are connected.

Once we are convinced of our brotherhood, the next step is forgiveness of historic injustices, and then work together to solve current problems, instead of "cursing the past".

An example of a historic event whose purpose is increased understanding:
April 16, 1803, the Battle of the Bay of San Diego in California.

In 1803 California was under the governance of Spain. Spanish soldiers were stationed at Fort Guijarros on Coronado North Island. Spain was attempting to keep foreign ships sailing in the Pacific Ocean, from landing on the California coast.

The Anniversary of the Battle of San Diego Bay, remembers a historic event in which an English-speaking crew was attempting to engage in smuggling. History is clarified, the Spanish presence acknowledged, and historic adversaries joined together to present the past in unity.
Collaboration between the U.S. Navy and Spanish representatives from the Casa de Espana is mounting the 213th event. [Included under California in the issue.]

I am convinced that as more of the general public becomes aware of the early Spanish presence in the building of the United States, more unity will result.

God bless America, Mimi

Hello Group,
I'd appreciate help interpreting this unusual baptismal entry (on right)

It's difficult for me to understand, but I believe this adult Negro slave

ever baptized? There is a lot that appears interesting, but unfortunately
I can't make it all out. Thank you so much for your assistance.

Introduction - Reynoso/Mejia/Sandoval/Iniguez

Hello,

My name is Jose Reynoso, born in La Boquilla, Moyahua, Zacatecas.  I'm new to the group and just started researching my family's genealogy.  I've been reading some of the posts, I'm very excited to join such a great group of people.

>From the Reynoso side, I've traced my grandfather, Melecio, Reynoso, b. 8 Dec 1893 in Guadalajarita, Zacatecas.  Melecio's father, Juan Reynoso, b. 30 Mar 1857 in Guadalajarita, Zacatecas.  Juan's father, Nasario Reynoso, b. 1830 around Moyahua, Zacatecas.  Nasario's father, Teodosio Reynoso b. about 1800 around Moyahua, Zacatecas.  And finally Teodosio's father, Miguel Reynoso b. abt 1780 around Moyahua, Zacatecas.

For the Reynoso line, see: http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/18347

>From the Mejia side, I've traced my grandfather, Jose Mejia, b. abt 1898 in Nochistlan, Zacatecas.  Jose's father, Maximiano Mejia, b. abt 1860 around Nochistlan, Zacatecas.
So far, I have not found anything else for Maximiano, other than marrying Zenona Melendres on January 27, 1878 in Nochistlan, Zacatecas.  Zenona Melendres, b. 23 Jun 1863, in Nochistlan, Zacatecas, is the daughter of Jose Melendres and Clara Reinoso.

>From the Sandoval side, I've traced my grandmother, Luciana Sandoval, b. 2 Jul 1902 in Guadalajarita, Zacatecas.  Luciana's father, Julio Sandoval, b. 1876 in El Remolino, Zacatecas.  Julio's father, Rodrigo Sandoval, b. 1850 in Moyahua, Zacatecas.  Rodrigo's father, Barbaro Sandoval, b. abt 1830 around Moyahua, Zacatecas.

>From the Iniguez side, I've traced my grandmother, Maria Iniguez, b. 1898 in San Jose de La Boquilla, Moyahua, Zacatecas.  Maria's father, Ignacio de Jesus Iniguez, b. 31 Jul 1867 in San Jose de La Boquilla, Moyahua, Zacatecas.  Ignacio's father, Inez Iniguez, b. abt 1836 around Moyahua, Zacatecas.  Inez's father, Antonio Iniguez, b. 1797 in Yahualica, Jalisco.  Antonio's father, Juan Jose Iniguez, b. 8 Jun 1782 in San Miguel, Yahualica, Jalisco.

Antonio Iniguez married Josefa Sandoval on July 11, 1822 in Moyahua, Zacatecas.

Other names on my tree are: Flores, Ballesteros, Renteria, Rodrigues, Alvarado, Martinez, Arellano, Gutierrez, Bocanegra, Cisneros, Lopes, Medrano, Gonzales, Pulido, Rios or Diaz, Campos, Carrillo, Haro, de Aro, de Luna, Vidaurri, and Benavides.

If anyone have any information, please let me know.  Thank you very much!

Question regarding dispensa of Manuel Gonzalez de Hermosillo and Margarita Sanchez de Porras and the Gonzalez de Hermosillo line

Dispensa in question:

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-DV4W-6?i=497&wc=3JWL-K68%3…

The dispensa includes the following information:

Manuel Gonzalez de Hermosillo, widower of Anna Maria Flores de la Torre, to marry Margarita Sanchez de Porras, daughter of Alejandro Sanchez de Porras and Maria Reynoso.

The relationships between the petitioners are:

1st:
Juan Gonz. de Hermosillo (m Leonor Caravajal) - sibling - Leonor Hermosillo (m Geronimo Schz. de Porras)
Sebastian Gonzalez de Hermosillo - cousin - Alejandro Sanchez de Porras
Manuel Gonzalez de Hermosillo - 2 cousin - Margarita Sanchez de Porras

2nd:
Francisco Gonzalez de Hermosillo - sibling - Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo (m Ana Gonz. Florida)
Leonor de Hermosillo - cousin - Leonor Gonzalez de Hermosillo (m Geronimo Sanchez de Porras)
Josepha Franco - 2 cousin - Alejandro Sanchez de Porras
Anna Maria Flores de la Torre - 3 cousin - Margarita Sanchez de Porras

Items in parenthesis added by me.

Does the direct line with Francisco Gonzalez de Hermosillo at the top agree with your research?

In my tree I have Francisco Munoz de Hermosillo who is the brother of Juan Gonz. de Hermosillo (m Ana Gonz. Florida) but I do not have a daughter named Leonor.

I also have another brother of said Francisco and Juan, named Cristobal. Cristobal had a daughter Leonor de Hermosillo who married Pedro Franco de Paredes. Leonor and Pedro has a daughter, Ana Franco, who married Joseph de la Torre.

So my questions are, should Francisco from the dispensa actually read Cristobal? An if so, are Ana Franco and Josepha Franco the same person or sisters?

Thank you
Alex Mercado

Maria Leonor Vásques de Retamosa

The lines that I am currently working on have Leonor Vásques de Retamosa in several different places. I have just finished reading all the information that I can find about her both in Nuestros Ranchos forums and also in FamilySearch and Ancestry.com. I am thoroughly confused.

In the lines I have, she first shows up as the mother of Pedro Pablo Macias Valades who would have been born in about 1588 in Lagos. Her husband there was Nicolas Macias Valades. In another line, she is the mother of Juana Bautista de Alba who would have been born right around 1600 in Lagos, based on when she started having children (1616). Her husband this time is José Alonso de Alba.

Some sources seem to think that there were 2 different Leonors - one born around 1561 and the other around 1583. The first was married to Nicolas and the second to Alonso. I am not so sure about this. I tend to think that there is only 1 Leonor. It is certainly conceivable that the Leonor born in 1561 could still have a daughter around 1600.

The issue of whether Nicolas is the same person as Alonso is more confusing. General consensus seems to be that Nicolas was born in Spain around 1527. This would make him pretty old to be having children in 1600, although not impossibly. The bigger issue for me is that all the documents that I can find give Juana Bautista's name as Alba. She also seems to have had a sister Maria de Alba who married in 1614. Where did Alba come from? It is certainly not unheard of for a person's name to change in these records, but from Nicolas Macias Valades to Alonso de Alba seems like a bit of a stretch. Not impossible, just a stretch.

So, anyway, it seems to me that there are a couple of possibilities:
1) there really were 2 Leonors - it may even be possible that the 1 born around 1583 was the daughter of the first one
2) the Leonor who was born around 1561 was married twice - first to Nicolas and second to Alonso
3) there was only one Leonor and only one husband, whose name changed as time went on from Nicolas Macias Valades to Alonso de Alba.

I know this has been discussed before, but I would really like to hear what everyone else thinks about this issue.

A Self Introduction

Hello everyone. I'm so beyond happy to have been pointed in your direction!

My name is Stephanie and along with my mother (okay, yes, she does most of the hard work) have been working on our family tree for just under ten years. There's so much to uncover and it feels as though there's just not not enough time. Now that my mother is nice and retired, she's been busy reorganizing and double checking our tree.

My paternal great-grandfather migrated from Tecolotlán all the way up to Bakersfield, California, working on the Southern Pacific Railroad. He (Atanasio Pimienta) was born in 1904, Tecolotlán, Jalisco, Mexico.

We hit the proverbial brick wall and after four years we were led to this amazing site; I'll be posting my questions in the research forum. I'm truly excited to have been accepted into the group.

Much Thanks,
Stephanie

Family tree poster showing familial relationship of Mexican presidents

A few years ago there was a poster showing that some ex-presidents of Mexico were related to each other was posted on the Internet.
Does anyone have the link or know where I can get this information?

I just discovered that i share an ancestor with an exmexican president and I would like to revisit that information to find out if I have more ancestral connections to Mexican Presidents. The connection that I found was through our common ancestor Diego Ochoa Garibai. Does anyone know of any other exmexican president related to the people from los altos de Jalisco?

Thanks,
R.A. Ricci
