Cousins Database Volunteers

Excel would be a great format for me to work with. However, I am not sure about Cousins in Google.

It looks as if everyone probably knows much more than me technically how to do this. My only concern is that listing emails as a reference for contact might not be a good idea. Since it will only be members linked, just their name probably would be fine. Then if another member want to contact them, they could do so through this site.

Keeping a database of everyone's genealogies and linking them up would be a lot of work, unless related members would submit GEDCOMS to us and then the GEDCOM was linked accordingly. The only problem with that, is I think many members have not submitted GEDCOMS. The link is already there, though and we could just submit the collection to GEDCOMS and call it Master GEDCOM for "whatever family line" or something along that line. I think it would be a monster of a GEDCOM though in some cases. Anyone who does not have genealogy software, would have to submit their lines in a Word or Excel doc and they would have to be copied and pasted into the master

I wonder if we should all join one of those collaborative tree sites like Geni (which I personally use for my family, but might not best for our group until they support source citation). It would give us a flash tree that can be navigated, and would calculate our relationships to each other. Also, most of them support gedcom upload.

Hi All,

I'm looking for two or possibly three volunteers to put together a
database of sorts on all the members of the group that have made a
family connection with each other. This list would give the persons
names, their email address, their location of connection and then the
details of how the connection was made.

I believe my cousin Angie Godina already started such a list but

I am good at data entry and know a little about databases. As long as I am not in charge, I would volunteer for the tedious part. Let me know.

Confirmation records are a must for research

While reading the groups postings regarding confirmation records. I have read many in Aguascalientes, from 1620 to 1823. There was no set age limit.

I was at first surprised to find that the sister of one of my ancestors was confirmed when she was about 27 years old and 9 years after she got married. Given that confirmations require the presence of the bishop and that he had to come from Guadalajara, its not difficult to imagine how spaced these visits may have been.

It just depended on when the bishop made his rounds. I have even seen one person (espanol) confirmed at the age of 70 or so. I would have to say to not overlook them, same as burial records. The Teocaltiche confirmation records are not as clear as the Aguascalientes records

Hi there Stuart ,

I believe that you´re looking for the definition in reference to what is written on some of the old actas ?

If you are then a coyote is an offspring of a mestizo and an indian .

Check out the castas in the albums section .

Stuart,

In Mexican slang it is a person contracted to get people across the US
border illegally. Originally a Nahuatl word Coyotl.

I have Tapia ancestors from Los Altos. In fact, my surname using Mexico's standards is actually Apodaca Tapia. I found some interesting information about the "Luna y Tapia" surname in Los Altos, particularly in the area of Lagos de Moreno. I looked for the info on the Lagos website where I previously found it, but was unable to locate it. I posted a message a long time ago in this group and I'll paste it here. I'm sure you'll be interested. This is my message back in 2005:

Hello.

I want to share what I recently found and check if anybody is
related to these ancestors. A couple days ago, I finally checked the
marriage record of my ancestors from Los Altos.

My 2nd greatgrandfather Juan Tapia married my 2nd greatgrandmother
Bibiana Martinez in Lagos de Moreno on February 5, 1879. Juan's
parents were Atanacio Tapia and Secundina Olivares. Bibiana's
parents were Juan Martinez and Matiana Lopez. Before reading this
document I just knew that my Tapia ancestros were

Hector:

I am sorry that it took me so long to answer your question about Bartholome de Luna y Tapia's ancestors. I am not certain about this as I do not have definitive documentation, but I am pretty certain that Bartholome's parents were:

Francisco DE LUNA and Maria DE TAPIA

and he had at least two siblings:
Luis LUNA, n. 1624
Ygnacio LUNA TAPIA

The combination of surnames and time period and location, as well as the fact that the marriage dispensation said that his wife was his third cousin, militates toward this being the same person. That would mean that Francisco DE LUNA and Hernando DE HARO were second cousins, so Maria DE HARO Y SAUCEDO and Francisco LUNA's father? had a pair of shared grandparents who were most likely Pedro BOBADILLA and Maria DE SAUCEDO, for whom Hernando DE HARO's mother was named.

The films section is functional. The listings work as do the links to familysearch.org that you can use by clicking VRI or IGI for films that have batch numbers. However, editing and adding film functions are currently not working. We will try to address this issue as soon as possible.

Hi Arturo:

I realize that the new site might not be 100% operational yet. I just want
to let you know that all of my pictures are still in the Album section, the
only problem I've noticed is that the areas: "General Forum Topics",
"Announcements and Events", "Who's On Line" and "Languages" are being
displayed on top of the pictures when they are enlarged from the thumbnail
view! Can this be corrected?

Thank you for all the great and fine work that you're doing with "our" web
site, we really appreciate it.

Chihuahua Church Records Online

What are IGI Batch numbers? Batch numbers where assigned to extraction projects. The extraction projects where of different types of records, christening, marriages, defunciones, etc.... Oftentimes there are many Batch numbers assigned to a specific locality. Each batch can cover several years of extracted information from that locality. For instance, batch C02419-7 corresponds to about 5,000 christening records of: Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, Teocaltiche, Jalisco, Mexico from approximately 1639 to 1715 and the surnames are in alphabetical order (keep in mind that the extractors made some mistakes). So, one can search by the batch number and see all of the extracted records from that batch in the locality of interest.

Once you know the batch numbers for a given town and time period you can look up that batch by going to:
• Then click on the record search tab (located to the right of the Home tab)
• To the left are the words International Genealogical

Comentario

Thank you Eduardo for the explanation of batch numbers.

If you are a member of Nuestros Ranchos, the process is even easier than
Eduardo's explanation. Simply click on Films and then the state that you
want to search on, then find the relevant sacrament and year range, e.g.
Baptisms 1754-1812 and click on either the IGI or VRI button. You should go
directly to familysearch.org's extraction for that batch and be able to
browse the extarction or click "refine" on the upper right and enter any
piece of information you have. Once you have a batch number there are no
restrictions as to what you can search on, i.e. you can simply enter the
mother's name and that is sufficient to refine within a batch.

Good luck. This is the last message on the old Nuestros Ranchos. I will
see you all on the new Nuestros Ranchos shortly.

Chihuahua, Catholic Church records online 1622 - 1958

The Chihuahua, Catholic Church records from 1622 - 1958 are now available online. I am sure that they are not all inclusive since many records from all the states of México where missed when originally microfilmed.

Hi Eduardo, this sounds great I wonder when the church will release Jalisco, for alot of us Jalisco is a must! Almost all of my research is in Jalisco, with some Chihuahua (this made my day) Zacatecas, Guanajuato, Michoacán, pain and Portugal. I will soon check the new collection on Chihuahua, this saves us a bunch of money, and conveniance at home. Though true the church might not 100% but remember hearing when the missionaries arrived at civil registry and churches they would microfilm ANYTHING that was available. -Daniel

Los registros de la Iglesia Católica de 1622 a 1956 de Chihuahua se pueden acceder en línea. Estoy seguro no es una lista completa de todos los registros eclesiásticos ya que muchos registros de los estados de México no fueron microfilmados originalmente. Eduardo,

I also thought that the record images were being posted in alphabetical
order because Aguascalientes was first. However, as you pointed out, the
alphabet is only being followed to some degree. Baja California, Campeche
and Chiapas would have been next. I would hate to have to wait several
years for the records from Jalisco, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí and Nayarit.
Maybe they have set other priorities. Here are the states in alphabetical
order.

1) Aguascalientes ***
2) Baja California
3) Campeche
4) Chiapas
5) Chihuahua ***
6) Coahuila
7) Colima
8) Durango
9) Distrito Federal
10) Guanajuato
11) Guerrero
12) Hidalgo
13) Jalisco
14) México (Edo. de México)
15) Michoacán
16) Morelos
17) Nayarit
18) Nuevo León
19) Oaxaca
20) Puebla
21) Querétaro

23) San Luis Potosí
24) Sinaloa
25) Sonora
