I know that if a person applied for US residency or citizenship or ???
that that information can be obtained by applying to the INS. I think
Carol Muro did this but for the life of me I can't seem to figure out
where to I put the information. Does anyone in the group have experience
in getting this information? If so would you be willing to give the
group a lesson in how to do it as in a step 1, 2, 3, 4, etc kind of thing???

Well I see your point and I'd like to thank you for bringing up the issue.

I can only say that everyone should submit that with which they believe
they can live with in regards to a clear identity theft threat
conscience. If anyone wants to modify their files deleting maiden names
of the mothers of those that are living please do so or ask and we'll
work on it together.

With respect to SS#'s I don't know what to say about that one. I know my
grandparents had SS#'s but I can't figure out what kind of mischief
someone could create if they were to discover their numbers.

Natalie if you or anyone else in the group could give some practical
examples it might help give more urgency as to why we should eliminate
the names of those that have or had SS#'s.

What about a person (parent/grandparent) who has died in the past few 
years, and had a SS# - if that person is listed on your tree, along 
with maiden name of mother ... seems I've read that that is enough 
information for someone to perpetuate some kind of fraud or other ID 
theft problem (well - some use even less information I suppose). This 
is what I am concerned about.

no you are right on target!!!!!!!!!!!

don't send in files (reports, charts etc) that have living persons on
them. By all means no SS#'s and if those that have done so are doing so
at their own risk. Not saying anyone on the group would resort to such a
thing but If you allow your living relatives to go here you might have
been doing it elsewhere as well.

no living relatives.

(not sure I answered your question if I didn't ask again and maybe next
time I'll get it).

My name is Maria.I have been researching my ancestors for a few years 
now. With the help of a relative I can now trace the Huerta name back 
to Vicente Huerta in about 1852.
The names I am researchinh are Huerta, Medina, Avila, Munoz, Romo and 
others but I can't locate my notes at the moment. They are al in the 
areas around Rancho Cosalima, county of Tabasco in the state of 
Zacatecas.  

Mi nombre es Maria. He estado investigando mis apellidos por un tiempo 
y con la ayuda de un pariente,he podido encontrar a un familiar desde 
1852, Vicente Huerta.
Los apellidos que estoy buscando son Huerta, Medina, Avila, Romo y

I have perused some of the files (not all of them yet), and have seen 
some that list names of persons who might possibly have SS#'s. Identity 
theft and visions of hackers has made me a little paranoid about the 
kind of information I should post in the files sections.
So ... Do your files contain names and other ID data of persons (living 
or deceased) with SS#'s? I know the majority of the files are historic, 
so maybe this is not a concern, but there are the more recent 
generations about which I have concerns. Where do you stand? Are my 
concerns unfounded?

A Spanish teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish, unlike
English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine. "House"
for instance, is feminine: "la casa." "Pencil," however, is masculine:
"el lapiz."

A student asked, "What gender is 'computer'?"

Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two
groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves
whether
"computer" should be a masculine or a feminine noun. Each group was
asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.

The men's group decided that "computer" should definitely be of the
feminine gender ("la computer"), because:

1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic;

2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is
incomprehensible to everyone else;

3. Even the
smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for
possible later retrieval; and

4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending
half your paycheck on accessories for it.


The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be
Masculine


("el computer"), because:

1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on;

2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves;

3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they
ARE the problem; and

4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a
little longer, you could have gotten a better model.
