Hi Michael,

Where are you researching Huizar? I know that a lot of them are in the Huejuquilla El Alto, Jalisco, Mexico area.

Comentario

Michael Huizar,

I am not presently focusing on deep research of my wife's ancestry; but,the parents of her grandfather --- Jocé Amado Acosta (1874-?)--- were Teodoro Acosta and Maria Jesus HUIZAR (1884-after 1930).

Since this is a relatively rare surname, I hope this is helpful to you.

Hi Arturo; I'm a new member, so you might alresdy be familiar with this book. Catalogo de pasajeros a Indias. I know it is available from the UC San Diego library, Spanish version. It list passengers coming from Spain to the new world in the 16th and 17th century. Their names, names of their parents and children, their land of origen, what port they embarked at, their area of destination in the new world. Their profession, their relatives in the Indies, etc... I hope this helps.

Agon123,

Google "the Spanish in the New World", and it will bring up several articles to answer some of your questions.

I also found this link helpful: www.aasd.k12.wi.us/Staff/reedmarlyce/ChapterOutlines/Ch02.pdf
(Europeans encounter the New World).

Columbus landed in the Bahamas and it was decades later that Cortez made inroads into Mexico. The Spaniards were in competition also with the Portuguese mostly and other Europeans who were mainly motivated by greed and the desire to exploit the natural resources of the New World.

Probably the most numerous class of Europeans to journey to the new world were middle class, merchants and craftsmen and soldiers: Iron workers, mining engineers, cartographers, clergy, navigators, those who knew how to work with firearms, horses, wheeled vehicles, ships, etc.

Hola Arturo,

I have found a couple of interesting volumes that add insight into the immigration process that some of our Spanish ancestors went through to get into Nueva España.

You're right, they had to land SOMEWHERE via boat - and Nueva Galicia is in the middle of the mainland! Here a couple of texts that bring to light the lives of these courageous immigrants, and the circumstances in which they traveled here:

1) La Vida Cotidiana en la America Española en Tiempos de Felipe II, Siglo XVI - by Georges Baudot (I only found it in Spanish, has a great chapter that describes the boat trip and travel conditions).

2) Cartas Privadas de Emigrantes a Indias, 1540-1616 - by Enrique Otte (there is an English language version, "Letters and People of the Spanish Indies, Sixteenth Century," also by Otte, but it only has 38 letters, vs. the 650 private correspondence exposed in the Spanish language version).

The above two works don't necessarily concentrate on Zacatecas personalities, but

Saldivar Ramirez

Wondering if anyone can help me tie in these people with Juan Silva Ramirez 1901 - 1994, hijo de Pedro Silva and Angela Ramirez.

According to family lore these Silvas are not related to the other Silvas of the HAcienda
whom came from Calvillo, Ags. These silvas Ive been told llegaron de otro pueblo,
by my grandfather he does not know. Nochistlan might explain a bit. In a matter of minutes
I was able to get Simon Saldivar's genealogy back to the 1700s. Family Search is incredible!
If this relation between Simon and Pedro is true then their father would be Rafael de Saldivar
and Francisca Olasaba married 7 may 1828 in Nochistlan. Simon's parents are Ambrosio Saldivar
and Maria de la Trinidad Perez. I can send a report if you want

Comentario

Hey Daniel, I would appreciate a copy of that report you mentioned.

Some of us are aware of not being the same Silva's from La Hacienda De La Luz. Rumors are that Juan Silva or family came from Vallecitos, Nochistlan, Zacatecas. Also that supposedly he was an only child and other rumors that he had a sister too. Another rumor was that he had a stepfather and left at a young age after his mother died.

If I remember correctly I heard tha he didn't know if he was a Saldivar or a Silva because he was on his own from 6/7 years of age. He had family with both surnames and that he had many cousins.

The mother's name is right on the money Angela Ramirez...my aunt remembers conversations with Juan Silva about his mother. Also that his father could have been a Pedro Silva or a Romulo Silva or Saldivar.

Juan Silva had a nephew by the name of Maximiano Silva Olmos if that helps. He never had a Birth Certificate, nor any other document with him.

Comentario

In my family archives we have Maximiano's birth record? But it does not mention his parents?
Even Im a bit confused Ill have to look for it. HE was born 13 Aug 1921 in La Luz. His death record
reads 27 March 2005 in La Luz. In the death record of Juan Silva Ramirez or Saldivar it reads
his parents were Pedro Silva and Angela Ramirez. He died 10 March 1994 in Calvillo. I will
send a report later today.

As Esther indicates there is never a charge from familysearc.org (LDS) for consulting online its various databases, or for visiting and obtaining research tutoring and guidance at its many Family History Libraries (FHL) throughout the world (look for the one near you!).

In some cases there is a nominal handling cost for some "services" such as sending specific microfilm rolls or other publications from their archives in Salt Lake City to your nearby FHL, or for making and sending you photocopies of records that you want.

We should all be thankfull for their immeasurable work in obtaining and cataloging work of genealogical records from around the world, and their magnanimity in sharing it freely with everybody.

I am not exactly sure what you mean by "cheat sheets" but I have reviewed many of those Valparaiso records and am interested in that area. I await your material and will add if I have something that is similar and can complement it.

Rick,
When you refer to "the library", can you tell us which library contains the document of Lope Ruiz de Esparza that you briefly glanced? I am sure the descendants of Petronila de Moctezuma and her Gabai daughters would be very interested in adding that piece of information to our records.

I do not have a copy because the library was closing and they were throwing me out. The document that I saw was a statement by Lope Ruiz de Esparza where he states this relationship. The person next to me actually showed it to me while I was working on something else and startled me. More like shocked me. I should have somehow made a copy but I had overstayed my stay in the library. I will try to contact him and get a copy.

Saludos Matu

I believe I had made the suggestion some time back about contacting someone through the pilot site...about when the records for Jalisco and Zacatecas would be made available. I had hoped there would be enough of us to voice our request, but needless to say there were few responses to my suggestion. I'm glad now we have a name of a person. I, for one have several states that I need to look at. I'm not interested in extractions as I need to see the real images.

An email would be most appreciated in order to contact the person to get the ball rolling.

Thanks

The extractions now-a-days have the image attached and it gives you
information on the source. Once you have extracted the information all you
have to do is enter the name of the individual and the image will be
available see the pilot site (the 1930 Censo Federal de México). Yes i'm
sure Lynn can get the images for the christening records, but there is a lot
more that can be done.

Until recently, Ismael and I worked together as research consultants at the
Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. He only has one daughter,
but that is beside the point. If you want to get a petition going the person
who will be able to get the desired states available online will be Lynn
Turner. He is the manager over that project and the one who facilitated
Chihuahua coming online. You might give it to Ismael but he will forward it
to Lynn.

Lynn has told me in the past that he would be willing to set up extraction
projects for Jalisco, Zacatecas, or any other state if we could get
sufficient people to commit to doing the extraction online. That is how
Argentina and Peru got their extraction projects. Lynn is probably following
this conversation and should be able to make it happen if there is enough
interest.

Just like everyone has already mentioned this just means that the bride and groom were related. One was a great-great-grandchild and the other was a great-grandchild of the tronco. Plus there is the "grado de afinidad". Here are the notes I have for exactly one of those...

My ancestor Ignacio Hernández and his second wife, María del Carmen Velásquez (who was not my ancestor...his third wife Francisca Guzmán was) were married on Monday, 16 Apr 1810, in the Parroquia Santa María de Guadalupe, Arandas, Jalisco, México. They required a dispensation for a "parentesco de consanguinidad en cuarto con tercer grado de Afinidad"...

This dispensation was the missing link that helped me connect this branch of the Hernández Gamiño family to the main tronco. The dispensa is 40 pages long and is found in the Sagrada Mitra de Guadalajara, Jalisco, México, Microfilm # 0168154, for the town of Arandas, written between 27 Nov 1809 and 28 Mar 1810. In it Ignacio Hernández states: "dixo llamarse

Hey steven: This sounds really interesting. I have many relatives or almost every single one of them who
married a cousin. Any many could help me extend my own genealogy. I noticed in the dispensa
films theres like 700 and although Luz Montejano Hilton;s book is a wealth of info, it doesnt not include
all the dispensas. Im looking for a dispensa from 1772, theres 7 films with that year. Im so tempted
to order all 700, If I was rich! Ive always dreamed of Ranchos to take this project own. Like Guillermo
Tovar says we are a team an equipo and must work together! These dispensas would be help
to all genealogist! How long are the films? I might order one just for the heck of it to check it out.
Thats crazy how yours is 40 pages long, are all like these for espanoles? Id probably just copy
the tree down and make a copY! thanks

I believe "tercero con cuatro" means that the male was 3 generations from
the shared ancestor and the female was 4 generations, so the shared ancestor
was his ggpt and her 2ggpt. I don't know whether
Aguascalientes dispensations were still sent to Guadalajara by 1772. I can
look it up for you if you send the the names involved. -Raquel

Do you have films for dispensas at your FHC?

Christoper,

No need to apologize for your first posting, we all make the same mistake in the
beginning when we don't include all the pertinent information.

Welcome to the group! you will find many very experienced family researchers and
some like me who muddle their way through the reasearch process as best we can.
Some who post only in english, some who post only in spanish and some who post
in both languages. We each do the best we can but the objective is to assist
each other whenever possible. If you don't receive an immediate response, don't
give up, keep posting until someone responds to your query.

Alicia,
San Jose, Ca
