Rancho "El Agostadero" in Canadas, Jalisco name: Refugio Villalobos mid 1800's

Hello I'm Mercedes G. Villalobos

Does anyone have any relatives that come from Canadas, Jalisco and knew of a Rancho in the mid to late 1800's called "El Agostadero"? REFUGIO VILLALOBOS and JOSEFA CAMPOS were the owners and my mother was their niece. She's 105 & tells me it was a big prosperous ranch. I'm trying to find out if any people that lived around there have told their stories. I Welcome any comments. Thanks.

Cualquier comentario seria agradecido. Gracias.

Introduction, Montalvo Cabral Research

Hello everyone, my name is Adrian and I've been a part of this group for over a month now, but just recently had part of my family tree uploaded so I would like to introduce myself to everyone.

The line I am reseraching here is that of my maternal grandfather, with the surname of Montalvo. Aside from the fact that this name is not common, it seems that upon doing a search of the forums for a mention of that name, only a few posts were found and those were of names mixed into the resources of other's.
Well, a history of my family, my great grandfather was Clemente Montalvo, he was from Villanueva, Zacatecas. Although originally I believed he was one of 5 children, I have found the baptism documents of 5 other siblings. His parents were Isabel Montalvo and Maria Huerta. That is where the geneological information on that side of my family ends. I have never been able to find any records of Isabel Montalvo, and the same with Maria Huerta, which as one would imagine is a fairly common name. I have been told one way or another she is related to Victoriano Huerta but I have yet to find her name on that family tree. As for Isabel, I am not sure if he is even from Zacatecas, as the story is told to me by my family is that he was a participant at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 and the subsequent siege the following year. Looking at the list of Mexican regiments which participated at the battle, most came from central Mexico. He could have been in the regular army, but for that information I still need where he was from.

As for the other half of my grandfather's family, thanks to a distant relative I have more information. Clemente Montalvo married Patricia Cabral sometime in the first decade of the 20th century. The Cabral's were from Jerez, Zacatecas. However, her mother was a Rojas and they were from Tepetongo.
Here is a link to the Cabral-Rojas family tree. It goes back about 3 generations started from my great-grandparents. http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/es/node/18460

Perhaps I might find a distant relative or two here. Thanks.

Herrera - Escobedo

Hi, I'm researching Herrera Escobedo. These surnames come from an Hacienda Jaula de Arriba, Zacatecas. Jaula de Arriba belongs to Partida los Pinos, Zacatecas about 30 miles south of Los Pinos going to San Luis Potosi. Specifically I'm mainly interested in my Grandparent and Grand-Grandparents.

My Grand Parent Severiano Herrera Escobedo born 21 de February 1889 but there may be possibilities of other years span to 1891 and died around 1950, Severiano had two siblings Juan and Emilia (CA 1901), Juan went to live to California, USA around 1915 and Emilia lived first in Sacramento Durango and then moved to Torreon Coahuila. Severiano parents were Jose Maria Herrera and Maria Dolores Escobedo. It is my guess that Jose Maria died around 1910 because Juan, Severiano and Emilia moved to Sacramento, Durango together with mother Maria Dolores Escobedo.
Severiano was first Married to Maria del Carmen Munoz, 25 November 1914 in Sacramento, Durango, Mexico, my father is son of Severiano and Maria del Carmen, Emilio Herrera Munoz born in 1916.
On the side of Maria del Carmen Munoz, I have a tree going to 1800 which I am enclosing.

1. To find more information about Jose Maria Herrera and Maria Dolores Escobedo, when they were born and where.
2. History of Jaula de Arriba, Zacatecas.
3. Reasons on why they moved.
4. To find information of Baptism of Severiano Herrera Escobedo, I did two trips to Los Pinos and Jaula de Arriba and I was not able to find his baptism register.
5. Any other information about this family.

5. Cualquier otra informacion de esta familia.

Jalisco & Teocaltiche

In talking to our older relatives, we heard comments that there were Land Grants given to families from Spain (hundreds of years ago) for land in Mexico, including Jalisco. Is this true, and if so, are there any records of this ?

Also, are there any records in Mexico of Spanish people crossing into Mexico (through the Atlantic and Gulf) via Veracruz or some other port ?

Thanks, Ken Tejeda

NR films

Hola Grupo,
I'm sure this is going to reveal my beginners status, but here it goes.  This is the first time that I've found a film listed on the Nuestros Ranchos website that has an ancestor of mine.  This particular film could solve my which of two Marcos Sepulbeda's is mine mystery.  It's an Atotonilco el Alto, Jalisco  film #222109, batch C603001.  My ancestor listed on the film is Petra Maria Sepulbeda  baptised 11/03/1735.  Parents listed are Marcos Sepulbeda and Ma Margarita Franco.  If the grandparents are listed, that would solve my long-lasting mystery.
The question is:  does the listing of these films on the NR site mean that a member has these films and can do a look-up?  Thank you so much for your help in this matter.   Alice

Tejda in Teocaltiche

> We have tried further research on Juan Tejeda on the Films on the website - still struggling trying to confirm which Juan Tejeda is the father of Toribio Tejeda (grandfather of my Dad). Juan Tejeda was married to Nicolasa Enrriques in 1863. There are two Juan Tejedas born in the early to mid-1840's. One of our relatives think he was born in 1827 in Calera (?), and his parents were Narzio Tejeda and Brigida Munos who were married in 1842. This does not make any sense as he would be born before their marriage (15 years before) . There also is a Faustino Munos Tejeda, male, who was born in 1843, and his parents are Narzizo Tejeda and Brigida Munos. Jose Juan Tejeda Munos - born on Feb 02, 1845 - Father is Narsiso Tejeda and mother is Brigida Munos - born in Teocaltiche, Mex - Item #2985 in Films. Juan Tejeda Villalovos - born in 1842 on Aug 30 in Teocaltiche - father is Miguel Tejeda and mother is Jsefa Villalovos - Item #2986 in Films. The parents of Jose Juan Tejeda
are Narsizo Tejeda and Brigida Munos, who were married on Jan 22 1842 in Teocaltiche. Source C607101- 0638752. The parents of Narzizo Tejeda are Cosme Tejeda and Maria Carrillo, who were married on May 21 1822 in Teocaltiche. No birth date given for Narzizo, yet I assume after 1822. There is a Tomas Texeda who was married to Ma. Secundina Cariilo on Jan 19 1801. They could be related and the parents of Narsizo. Does the church in Teocaltiche have the actual records that could provide more information - I assume the film came from La Iglesia.

Haro and Robles of Zacatecas

My twin sister and I first began researching our family history four years ago. We have found a lot through Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org. My Great Grandmother, Aurelia Haro Robles emigrated to The United States with her mother from Mexico March 26, 1929. She was born July 19, 1916 in Rancho La Nopalera, Mezquital del Oro, Zacatecas.

Her parents were Jose Doroteo Haro, of Mezquital del Oro, Zacatecas, and Maria Esther Robles of Zacatecas, Zacatecas. Not much is known of Maria’s parents, but I have traced Jose’s to the early 1800’s, each generation from is parents (Pedro Pascual Haro Haro and Agapita Banuelos Villarreal) on are born in Moyahua de Estrada, Zacatecas.

I am looking for more info on Maria Esther Robles’ family (her parents names were E. Higinio Robles and Juana Miramontes) and anything on Rancho La Nopalera, Mezquital del Oro, Zacatecas. Maria Esther also had twin daughters born in Mexico who I know nothing about.

GenReyesAtilano Introduction

Hello Nuestros Ranchos,

I have been researching my family history for approximately 11 years. Some of the information I have is from listening to my grandfather, Feliciano Reyes, tell me stories of his life. I loved listening to him and I miss him very much; He passed away in 1989. When my daughter was born in 1997, I realized that I had a duty to pass on to her our history before it becomes lost or forgotten. At the time of my daughter's birth I was living in the Southwestern United States while the majority of my family, the first generation, lived in the Midwest. I now live in the Southeastern U.S. so researching has proven to be a challenge. I went back to the Midwest in 1999 and again a few years ago, and each time I research the library and museum for our family history. In 1999, we started out at the museum in Centerville, Iowa where my great grandparents first settled. The museum took me to the library where I reviewed microfiche and naturalization books. The museum led me to townspeople who were still living and remembered my grandfather and my great aunts and uncles. From that trip, I learned so much. I have it bumps in the road and have gotten discouraged, but something or someone always inspires me to continue.

This is what I know so far:
My great grandfather, Victoriano Reyes (born around 1885 in Zacatecs, Mexcio), and his wife, Mariana Vargas Reyes (born April 17, 1887 in Zacatecas, Mexico), their children: Feliciano Reyes (born 8, June 1908 in Santa Monica de las Viudas in Zacatecas, Mexico), Santos Reyes (born 1, November 1911 in Rancho de las Viudas in Zacatecas, Mexico), Petra Reyes ( born 11, April 1915 in Fresnillo, Zacatecas, Mexico) all left Zacatecas, Mexico in September of 1916 for the United States. My Grandfather Feliciano's naturalization papers stated that they crossed over the footbridge at Laredo, Texas. Somehow, they ended up in Centerville, Iowa.

They lived in a box car in a community with other new immigrants from England, Italy, Czech, etc. Three more children were conceived in Iowa: Juanita, Sanita, and Joseph. My great grandfather, Victoriano, and my grandfather, Feliciano, worked in the coal mines. Santos was a boxer and went to WWII where he died in Luxemburg, Germany. Joseph followed Santos footsteps with boxing and also fought in WWII. He is now deceased. Feliciano worked for the CCC run by the War Dept, which I found was created to help families like my ancestors; He died in 1989. Petra married Paul Castillo and had a family; She is now deceased. Sanita became a dental hygienest, married and did not have children. She later took care of my great grandmother, Mariana, until she died. Mariana went to live with Petra and then a nursing home. Juanita became a nun, Sister Marilyn Reyes, she still lives in Davenport, Iowa in the convent. Victor is also still alive, his wife is deceased.

My great grandfather, Victoriano, died tragically in 1923 leaving my great grandmother and six children behind and was two months pregant with their 7th child, Victor. With my great grandfather Victoriano's death, at the age of fourteen, my grandfather became head of the family.

I am trying to find the birth dates and marriage dates of the parents and grandparents of my great grandparents. Currently, I only have names.

I did not know my grandmothers parents as they had both passed away before I was born. However, I came across a gem! I found a record of my maternal great grandparents marriage record from San Juan de los Lagos. It states that my great grandfather, Juan Atilano was born in "the margin of La Laja" in Jalisco, Mexico. It states he was married in San Juan de Los Lagos. I have attached the certificate. As you can see, I have many names, but no dates.

I am trying to find dates and more about their lives in Mexico.
