Hello to all.

I haven't properly introduced myself to the community since I became a member a couple of months ago when I first started to build my family's tree. I guess I always prefer to get a good grasp of my ignorance on a subject before I start bombarding people with questions that could potentially be easily be answered with a simple search and/or a bit of elbow grease.

Up to a few months back, all I knew was the names of my grandparents and some of my great grandparents, but as it often happens when there's a death in the family, I suddenly got bitten by the genealogical bug and started poring through digital archives.

I ended up here at Nuestros Ranchos because my maternal grandfather who was born in Juanchorrey, Zacatecas in 1913 to Leonides Sanchez Nava and Francisca Fernandez Correa.

His paternal grandparents were Octaviano Sanchez Acevedo and Lorenza de Nava Sandoval.

Octaviano was son of Pablo Antonio Sanchez Carlos and Maria Nestora Acevedo Enriquez.Lorenza was daughter of Jose Manuel de Nava y Correa and Manuela Gregorio Sandoval Renteria.

Up to here (and way beyond on many of his lines) all good.

Problem is I have hit a wall on the side of Pablo Antonio's father: Blas Sanchez. I can't seem to find anything solid about his parents while there's plenty of information about the side of his wife Desideria Carlos, the daughter of Justo Antonio Carlos (de Godoy?) and Rita Laurena de Llanos y Valdez. I found two baptism records of two different Blas Sanchez. The race of one of them is listed as "coyote", which I doubt he was, and the other doesn't quite match the location even though is also in Zacatecas.

Does anybody have any information about Blas' parents?

Alternatively, how about any descendants of him and Desideria? And more specifically, any direct male descendants who inherited the last name Sanchez? I am particularly curious about my grandfather's paternal haplogroup. Unfortunately, my uncle, his only son, passed away last year and he had no male descendants.

Hello, so my paternal side is from Meson de Los sauces it seems. As far as I can get any info as most of the recent generations of family was born in Los Angeles, California.
I could find info that my paternal great grand father was actually born in Mexico.

I finally found my African roots. Reading the records I have traced my mulato ancestors to the Reyes Family out of Sombrerete - specifically "Real de Sombrerete, Zacatecas, Mexico". This branch of my family seems to have intermarried with the Salas, C/S/Zervantes and Hernandes families from Pinos, Zacatecas and Mezquital, Durango.

Does anyone know anything about Africans in Zacatecas in the 1700s and early 1800s?

On my paternal side is the Reynoso line. My great grandfather is Nestor Reynoso born in Jalostotitlan in 1868. He married Maximina Padilla who was born in Jalostotitlan in 1871 and later married in Jalostotitlan in 1889. His father was Juan Reynoso who was born in Los Sauces (ranch about 15 kilometers outside of Jalostotitlan on the road to Teocaltiche) in 1842 and married Vicenta Sanchez in 1864. Vicenta was born in Lavor de Abalsa in 1846…I have seen the name of this ranch what could be misspelled in a couple of messages. Lavor de Abalsa is also a small ranch about 10 kilometers outside of Jalostotitlan on the road to Teocaltiche. I was fortunate in my last trip to Jalostotitlan in finding Nestor Reynosos baptism record. Nestor Reynoso’s baptism record indicates Juan Reynoso and Vicenta Sanchez as his parents and his paternal grandparents, Agaton Reynoso and Juana Gutierrez, as his godparents as well.

On the Padilla line, Maximina’s parents were Angel Padilla born in Lavor de Abalsa in 1835 and Francisca Ramirez born in 1846 and were married in 1867. Angel Padilla parents were Mariano Padilla and Dolores Martin married in Jalostotitlan in 1823. Mariano Padilla’s parents were Tomas Padilla and Honorata Gonzalez both born around the turn of the century (1800).

Hello everyone, I’m just right to give up on researching a branch that motivated me to start with this hobby, I’ve gotten to around the year 1821 with Tomas Sanchez, son of Trinidad Sanchez and María del Carmen Sanchez,
In Tomas’s marriages that have been written in the parish books of Jilotlan de Los Dolores, it points out that Tomas is from Estancias del Monte Michoacan and his parents from Cotija Michoacan but later settled in Rio del Oro and in other documents in the ranch of San Pablo in the same area of el Rio del Oro. Does anyone in this forum have info of this so called Estancia del Monte or the origins of the Sanchez family last name in Cotija in the 1800s.

Suddenly every image of the Tlaltenango baptisms 1888-1889 on FamilySearch have blue boxes, outlining and sometimes obscuring the text.

Mi conexión con los Riso, me viene por Nicolasa Riso, esposa de Pedro Camarena, debieron haber casado antes de 1765 en Ayo el Chico, pero no he encontrado el acta matrimonial. En algunas actas de bautismo de sus hijos Nicolasa aparece como Riso Muños.

Por Gascón, mi vínculo es por parte de María Ignacia Gascón, esposa de José Manuel Sepúlveda Estrada, no he encontrado el acta de matrimonio pero en un acta de bautismo de su hija María Felipa Sepúlveda Gascón, bautizada el 31 de Mayo de 1803 en Arandas, aparecen el nombre de los abuelos. Dónde están escritos los padres de María Ignacia no se entiende bien el nombre de su padre y el apellido es Gascón y su madre viene como Catarina Gascón.

Creo que el origen de los Riso es italiano y Gascón me suena a un apellido francés.
¿Alguien podría darme algo de información?

California Supreme Court Justice Cruz Reynoso passed away today. His parents were from Jalostotitlan Jalisco. His mother is a third cousin of my maternal grandmother.

Meaning dark skeleton's in the family closet that may or may not have been intentional findings.

Does anyone know how to open the documents to view in this public archive of Aguascalientes? I want to look at a 3 page document of a esclavo that was bought by Fernando De La Campa y Cos in 1724. In the past, I did view it but I didn't save the documents. Now when I want to view it, it doesn't open.

Does anyone have information on the Sevilla or Renteria family of Tecolotlan/Juchitlan, Jalisco, Mexico? Researching the lineage and am hitting a brick wall with a man named Jose Miguel Sevilla (Cebilla). Married 10FEB1841 to MA Ambrosia Garcia. Possible birth in the 1815-1820's.

There were several men named Francisco Xavier Romo de Vivar in Aguascalientes in the early 1700's. My research is focused on the man that was married to Juana Dias Montanes de Sandi. I estimate he was born between 1700 and 1715. I've identified three individuals that appear to be the children of Francisco Xavier and Juana.Lazaro Salvador who was baptized in Aguascalientes Feb 26, 1748Antonia Leandra who was baptized in Aguascalientes April 6, 1742
Ana Maria who was married in Teocaltiche on Jan 22, 1753 (probably born around 1735).  I only have her marriage record.I believe, but cannot prove, that Francisco Xavier is the son of Nicolas Romo de Viva and Francisca Xaviera Gallardo.It is equally possible that Francisco Xavier is the son of Cristobal Romo de Vivar and and his first, Josefa Macias. Following her death Cristobal married Maria Munoz de la Barba.I've pretty much been able to rule out most other possibilities, but there may be someone I missed that could be his father.I have looked though most marriage and Informacion Matrimonial records looking for some document that confirms the names of the parents of Francisco Xavier (again keeping in mind there are others by this name that are not of the right age). So far no luck.If anyone has come across any record that can aid me in my research please let me know.Thanks.

in tracing my paternal linage, knowing full well, that they were Yndígenas in the beginning. & here is where i am trying to find the original person, who got "issued" the "Hernándes ~
Errnandes" surname. now i am aware, that on my maternal side, those ancestors were Españoles, through & through, from Los Altos. & i was able to purchase the books of the Padrones for that area, from as early as 1630. most of my ancestors are there [maternal]. also have the "Retoños Series," by M. González-Leal. all of the familias are there, as that side, has been there for over 400 years. i can see how the owners gave their surname to either an Yndígena or a Slave, once they were freed, that persons surname. all of this is also in the padrones. & so my simple question is this. my Great Grand-Father to the 4th power, {Francisco Sibrian Hernándes} was married in 1758 in Zacoalco de Torres. i have that document & in that Marriage Certificate, it states that His Father is: Gerónimo de la Cruz & His Mum is: Maria Salome [Yndia]. & that Francisco was originally from Xocotepec, Jalisco. as best as i can figure this out, he was given that surname & was Freed. Well, Then...There must have been a Rancho or Hacienda de Labor, in Xocotepec, or around that area, where He worked & got the Surname. His Dad is a "de la Cruz" which applied to many-many Yndígenas, throughout Jalisco, in that era. i see it a lot in Los Altos also. was there ever published a similar book, about that areas Church records [Padrones] & where can i find one, if they are available somewhere. Los Altos was very well documented, that is for sure& much is available. Thank You & Hopefully, someone might have a clue. i did try to see if a Baptismal record existed for Him, in Xocotepec, but no dice.

Good evening, all. My name is Sebastian and I have been digging through records to expand my knowledge about my ancestors. I split my browsing between my Mexican side, mostly Zacatecas and Aguascalientes so far, and my Guatemalan side. I have now been working on my tree for a bit and have picked up a few resources that have aided me. I have come to a set of distant grandparents, Jose/Joseph Miguel Romo de Vivar and his wife, Ysabel Rosaura Lopez de Navas, of which I have not seen a solid link connecting Jose Migl to his parents. These are mentioned in the marriage between Ricardo Romo de Vivar and Geronima Anastacia de Velasco, document which I have linked below. I have seen many people place a completely different set of parents for the couple that gets married, with no supporting documents. I'd like to ask if anyone could shed light on this (hopefully saving me a ton of time) or know who the parents of Jose Migl are, before I attempt to look through films. I need help with this record. I'm trying to get some of it transcribed (so I can use google translate afterwards). I noticed on page two, about a third of the way down the page, that the word "dispensa" appears. My guess is a dispensation....so I would next go to a "Dispensas matrimoniales" of the same year to look for that record. Am I on par? The bride and groom are Pedro Z Gonzalez Infante & Maria Refugio Briceño.

I am a descendant of Juan González de Hermosillo, the first of this family to arrive in New Spain, from Guadalcanal, Spain, along with his wife Ana Muñoz. However, I have not been able to find any primary source on who his parents were. Some genealogies say that he was the son of Gonzalo de Hermosillo and Ana Rodríguez, while others mention Isabel Escobar as his mother. Does anyone have additional information? In the following marriage dispensation (Maria Gertrudis Rosales with Vicente Ferrer Concha 07/12/1756) statements from Lorenzo Godina when still alive include "...su declaracion, se afirmo, y ratifico y dijo ser de edad de sesenta y dos años..." and also "...estar de tercer con segundo grado de consaguinidad con la dha pretensa.." (Maria Gertrudis Rosales).

Many of the early families of Aguacalientes also had relations in San Luis Potosi. I am trying to solve a puzzle of shared compound surnames among the Nietos of Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, and San Luis Potosi.

Don Esteban Nieto (II) (estimated birth 1642) of San Luis Potosi was married twice, first to a Juana Gonzalez, second to a Dona Ana Diaz Rodriguez y Salas 26 November 1670 in San Luis Potosi. Ana was the daughter of a Rodrigo Martin and an Ana Rodriguez. Don Esteban Nieto II’s parents are not named in the marriage.

Don Esteban Nieto (II)’s descendants mostly spread throughout Armadillo de los Infante, San Luis Potosi. Strange surnames appear among two of his sons by his second wife: Augustin and Pedro. Augustin Nieto married three times, first to Angela del Castillo, second to Felipa de Cervantes, and third to Maria de Villalobos. Augustin Nieto’s descendants spread throughout Aguascalientes and, correct me if I am wrong; some begin appearing with the surname “Nieto Corona.” Don Esteban Nieto (II)’s son Pedro went by the name “Pedro Hernandez Sedillo”.

This would seem to indicate Don Esteban Nieto (II) as a son of Pedro Nieto (son of Hernando de Almeida and Isabel Hernandez) and Dona Josefa Corona. Esteban’s estimated birth of 1642 seems to match up with Pedro Nieto’s other children in Pinos. This would seem to explain why at least the surnames Hernandez and Corona spontaneously appear among the descendants of Don Esteban Nieto (II) (the origins of Sedillo/Cedillo is still a mystery). However, Pedro Nieto is not Esteban’s father.

Don Esteban Nieto (II)’s parents are not named in his marriage but curiously they are named when he was a padrino to the baptism of a boy “Leon?” (baptized 3 September 1690, in Armadillo de los Infantes) found here:

Don Esteban Nieto (II) is named as the son of Esteban Nieto (I) and Ysabel Perez. This is the only primary source I have seen that directly names Don Esteban Nieto (II)’s parents.

I found this archive of when my 7th generation great grandfather Antonio Madera (1660 aprox - 1709) registered this symbol to use as a branding iron for his livestock. Antonio Madera was married to "Maria Candelaria Angon (1655 aprox - 1735)

It was registered at Tlaltenango, Zacatecas since it seems that people in the Zacatecas/Jalisco area would go to Tlatenango to register things as it may have been a Government office much closer than having to go farther to Guadalajara (Real Audencia of Guadalajara).

I had seen in another archive about tierras dated 1616 tha "Xerez," was under juridiction of Tlatenango. Thats a clue when looking for Census data in that time. To look in the archives of Tlatenango.
