Hello everyone,

Its been very long time but I am back uncovering my family's past. With the whole pandemic going on I have more time to invest in genealogy. It does sadden me that I don't have my aunt Alicia Avelar Olmos Carrillo by my side since she past away early this year. Not sure if you guys remember her but she was a great contributor to Nuestros Ranchos.I owe her for my interest in our family's history, and I will continue her legacy.

Now, I am writing this update because I have finally brought down my Villalpando brick wall. This happened two days ago and I have spent the last two nights confirming the connection with documentation and so on. If you guys look at my post from years ago (below) you can see I was stuck on Diego Villalpando and Gertrudis Rodriguez. It has been years. And maybe the connection was out there (thanks to George Fulton and others)but I just couldn't find anything so I gave up for a while.

The Villalpando line is very important to me because my mom is a direct Villalpandp descendant through her dad's side, my grandpa. I have tested my grandpa with 23andme to check his y-haplogroup. I have always wanted to confirm my Villalpando male y-haplogroup with documentation and paper trail. And I am finally getting closer. Don't think I have reached Europe (well from what I see online it stops in Leon, GTO). But defo closer to unraveling more info.
This is my line Juan Bautista Villalpando below is my 6th great grandfather.

Cosme Felix De La Villa De Bugarin and Maria de los Reyes it turns out are my 7th Great-grandparents as well as Great-grandparents of many of our fellow members and relatives. As you noted Maria is listed as a native of la villa de Baiona or(Bayona)Galicia,Espana. Has it been determined if Cosme Felix de la villa Bugarin came from the villa of Bugarin as his name seems to indicate? I've seen a map of la provincia de Pontevedra in Galicia where both Baiona and the village of Bugarin are located. They are according to Googlemaps 50km distance from each other.

Does anyone have any information on Villa Garcia or sources where I can find the history of it?

I have collected tidbits of information about the ancestry of Maria de Haro y Saucedo who was married to Juan de Miramontes in Tlaltenango, Zacatecas sometime in the lat 1500s (likely 1580 to 1590) but have been unable to find definitive documentation of the details of her ancestry.

There are documents that state in vague terms that she was the descendant of Pedro de Bobadilla, original encomendero of Tepechitlan and of Juan Delgado, original encomendero of El Teul. It is also very probable that she is the descendant of Diego de Colio and his daughter Teresa de Colio y de la Torre.

Here is what I have and would appreciate any feedback or augmentation of these facts:

- Her grandson Nicolas de Haro, born in 1617, son of Hernando de Haro and Maria Gonzales de Mendoza, in his declarations of clean blood for the priesthood states that he is the great-grandson "bisnieto" of Pedro de Bobadilla and Maria de Saucedo, which would make Maria de Haro y Saucedo their daughter. However, there appears to be a generation missing here if one figures that Pedro Bobadilla's one documented son Francisco Bobdilla was born in 1542 and Maria de Haro y Saucedo was having children at the turn of the century. Nicolas was most likely their great-great grandson making his grandmother their granddaughter. Francisco Bobadilla died and left the encomiendo to his unnamed sister... possible mother of Maria de Haro y Saucedo???

- A woman, named Ana de Saucedo, who is identified as the aunt of Nicolas' father Hernando de Haro (and therefore Maria de Haro y Saucedo's sister) states that she was the granddaughter of Martin Gonzales, from whom she inherited lands that her grandfather had received through a "merced". This would make Maria de Haro y Saucedo Martin Gonzalez's grandaughter as well.

- In a document dated 1627 in Zacatecas (which I have been unable to find a definitive reference for) Luis Felix Delgado gives testimony of the land he and his brothers Gaspar Gonzalez and Pedro Albertis inherited from his father Martin Gonzalez. This would make Maria de Haro y Saucedo the daughter of one of these men or their niece.

on the right page is the death record of my 4th G grandfather Pedro de la Torre and his parents are Simon de la Torre and Maria Ynes Flores de Lisar (well it looks like Lisar). I haven't heard of that name is it Lisar or another name? I was comparing the the last letter to the "R" in Nesesarios a few lines down and it kind of looks similar. what do you think?

I was wondering if someone had information on the origin of Alonso Garcia de Cuevas who also used the name Garcia de Miranda? And was also wondering if he might be related to the de la Cueva family. He would've been born around 1590 and was married to Antonia de Nava. They are the parents of Antonia de Nava/de Cuevas who married Bartolome Garcia de Leon in 1648 in Aguascalientes. Any information would be great.

As part of my Valladolid Dispensas work, I ran across this matrimonial dispensation from Tinguindin, Michoacan:

Juan Manuel de Villasenor y Juana de Balbuena (Tinguindin - 1717)

In it, we find that Juan Manuel de Villasenor (vecino de Tlazazalca) was the son of Pedro de Villasenor and Maria de Jaso. Juana de Balbuena (vecina de Tinguindin) was the daughter of Fernando de Balbuena and Leonor de Santa Cruz y Villasenor.

Interestingly, the witnesses call out that there are two parentescos between the novios. The first one is the one I need help understanding and connecting the dots on:

1. Francisco de Lomelin // Juan de Lomelin
2. Maria de Lomelin // Maria de Lomelin
3. Pedro de Villasenor // Fernando de Balbuena
4. Juan Manuel de Villasenor // Juana de Balbuena

I looked around and couldn't seem to find any traces of a Luis de Lomelin son named Francisco nor that of a son named Juan... What I find interesting is that the third witness refers to the Maria de Lomelins (daughters of Francisco and Juan) as Cuebas and NOT Lomelin like the first two witnesses... That got me thinking... Is it possible that the first two witnesses were not old enough to remember/know that the Marias de Lomelins were NOT daughters of two Lomelin brothers but that they were daughters of two Cuebas brothers? Before I go there, I'd like to like to hear from the group if there were any known Lomelin brothers named Francisco and Juan Lomelin, sons of Luis Lomelin.

Estoy buscando mayor información sobre Juan Francisco de la Torre casado con Josefa de Páez cuyo hijo fue Manuel Francisco de la Torre n.1716 en Guanajuato y casado con Anna María García de Zárate o García Blásquez/Blásquez (también García Gutierrez y Escalante) y a su vez tuvieron una hija llamada Juana josepha de la Torre Gutierrez n. 1734 Guanajuato o San Luis Potosí no tengo muy clara esa información ya que en algunos documentos aparece Guanajuato y en otros San Luis Potosí.

Hello,

I have been trying for a while to get more information on Bartolo de Aguirre (d. Sep. 2, 1724). He was married to Micaela [Orosco Mendosa Peres]. Many ancestry trees and FamilySearch trees have his birth in Spain in 1669, however I am not convinced.

A while back someone here on the forum suggested that he believed that this Aguirre line came from Guanajuato. I was wondering if that individual, I don't remember who, could kindly share his theory.

I have also found this marriage record of an Aguirre in Ayotlan in 1688.

Bartolo's first child for whom I have found a baptismal record is Juana who was born in 1889. I am hoping to see if perhaps with the information from the above record, I can further research and establish some form familial relationship.

If possible would anyone be able to help decipher the entry? It is on the right page and has no heading. I cannot make out the groom's name nor his father's. His mother is Francisca Nunez. The bride I believe is Juana de Ovia, daughter of Joseph (?) and Angela de Ovia. Her family is from Guadalajara. Any other help would be appreciated as the handwriting is atrocious.

Looking for my grandfather born in Tlalcosahua, Jalisco, Mexico in 1894 +- 2 years. When I try to access film around the year he would of been born a IGI is not available in any of the subject towns. How can I access these records. I have found many of his family in Tlalcosahua, records thru Family Search but I'm not finding him Bernardo Lopez Huizar. His father's Last name (Lopez) his mother's last name (Huizar)Any in-put from any one would be helpful.

This is the denuncia contra Juan Garcia de Santa Ana, vecino de Aguascalientes, por sospechoso de Judio. It’s dated 15 Nov 1604. The official in charge was Simon de Vargas Machuca, Teniente de Alguacil Mayor de la Villa de Aguascalientes.

Juan Garcia de Santa Ana was born in Sevilla, son of Juan Garcia de la Oliba and Luisa de los Angeles, and married to Francisca de Castro, daughter of Pedro de Castro & Juana Jimenez. He had been living in Aguascalientes some 8 years (1596) and previously, 4 years in Teocaltiche (1592-1596), where he had been punished for blasphemy, by Padre Cristobal Macias. According to this denuncia, in addition to the accusations, which I won’t get into, Garcia was related to known “New Christians” (a merchant named “Baeza,” is mentioned), and his grandmother was burned at the stake.

This is just a denuncia, and doesn’t include the trial nor outcome, but in case you are curious, Juan Garcia de Santa Ana remitted his testamento on 11 Aug 1607, so he survived this ordeal. What’s notable in this denuncia, are the witnesses: statements are given by Juan Lopez de Lizaldi (img190) Juan Navarro (img191), Pero Fernandes de Valdus el Moso (img193) and Martin Navarro el Biejo (img196). Unfortunately, their ages nor signatures are given. Other witnesses present or mentioned were: Francisco Banegas, Geronimo Lopez, Gaspar de Vargas, Martin Navarro el Moso (grandson of el Viejo), Lope Ruis de Esparça, Pero Ruis de Esparça, Xpoval Loçano. Pedro Gonzalez y su muger Maria de Frias.

Wow. Right? Unfortunately, there is no other genealogical information about any of these people, other than that given, but at least we can place them in Aguascalientes by 1604, and some of them in Teocaltiche, previous to that. Here are some things that I did pick out:

Pero lamentablemente no he podido encontrar nada de información sobre José/ Joseph Lazo de la Vega, salvo que fue Capitán, natural de Sevilla y tres veces alcalde ordinario de Zamora. Alguien más que tuviera información sobre él, nombre de sus padres u otros familiares.
También he visto varios posts de Rick A. Ricci, miembro de este foro, y que ha escrito posts sobre varios antepasados en común y que a su vez ha escrito un libro “Mygenes2000”, sobre esa genealogía. Rick si lees mi post me interesa mucho tu libro, como lo podría conseguir? Ahí seguro habrá mucha información de mis antepasados también.
Cierro mi post con muchas mas dudas y preguntas sobre mis antepasados pero creo que por el momento es suficiente.

I noticed that for Cañadas de Obregón, Jalisco there are civil records but I can't seem to find Church Records listed for this location. If a birth was recorded in the civil record for Cañadas de Obregón, Jalisco where do you think they took their children to be baptized and recorded? The range of dates is 1870's

Is the Lorenzo Mejia (1) who married Mariana de Benavides and Josefa de Paez the same as the Lorenzo Mejia (2) who married Ines de Estrada?

Could it be Lorenzo Mejia married Mariana de Benavides (AKA de Aguayo) and had Matias and Juana Mejia, then married Ines de Estrada, then married Josefa de Paez?

Both Lorenzo Mejias had a Juana Mejia born before 1641. Both Lorenzo Mejias had a Jeronimo Mejia. Lorenzo Mejia (1) died sometime after 17 Oct 1677 and Lorenzo Mejia (2) died on 10 Aug 1683.

The Genealogía de Nochistlán antiguo reino de la Nueva Galicia en el siglo XVII según sus archivos parroquiales lists Lorenzo Mejia (1) as possible son of Lorenzo Mejia (2), but lists some discrepancies.

03 Mar 1635 Confirmations:
a) Juana Mejia daughter of Lorenzo Mejia and Mariana de Aguayo (possibly AKA de Benavides).

27 Aug 1638:
a) Lorenzo Mejia (2) marries Ines de Estrada.

20 Sep 1649 Padrones:
a) Two Lorenzo Mejias are listed. One is viudo and one is child (<5 year old).
b) Oldest son Matias Mejia is married so likely born < 1633.
c) Second oldest is Juana cc (likely born <1641).
d). Other children listed are with Ines de Estrada, so likely Lorenzo Mejia (2).
This is Lorenzo Mejia (2) since children with Ines de Estrada are listed together. and not son of Ines de Estrada but of Mariana.

12 Oct 1660:
a) Lorenzo Mejia (1), viudo of Mariana de Benavides, marries Josefa de Paez.

1664 Padrones:
a) Only one Lorenzo Mejia is listed. Viudo.

1667 Confirmations:
a) Jeronimo hijo de Lorenzo Mejia (1) y Josefa de Paez difunta

Oct 17 1677:
a. Antonio Mejia marriage. I read it as "Lorenco Mixia y de Josepha de Paez difunta esp^les", whereas reads it as "Lorenco Mexia y Josefa de Paez, difuntos;"

10 Aug 1683:
a) Burial record of Lorenzo Mejia (2) vuido. Lists Domingo Mejia and Antonio Gomez Borrallo.

Her husband, Gonzalo de Morillo, had been named familiar de la Inquisicion in Compestela, and limpiezas were required for both of them. His limpieza begins here.

The paternal grandparents of Petronila de Haro were Pedro de Haro cc Francisca Muñoz, and her maternal grandparents were Miguel Arias and Francisca de Torres, of Medellin, Reinos de Castilla. Her mother's brother was Juan Arias.

I don’t descend from this family, but I saw the name, Pedro Ruiz de Haro, and on a whim, I began reading it. And a good thing: the first witness for Petronila de Haro is my g10 Cristobal Ordoñez, son of conquistador Diego de San Martin cc Elvira Ordoñez, and brother of conquistador Juan Michel.

Ordoñez gave his testimony on 19 Jan 1600, at his home in Guadalajara. He states that he had known Petronila for more than 48 years, and that he met her in Compostela, at the home of her parents, who were his “deudos y amigos” (!!!!!). He says that he first met Pedro Ruiz de Haro, secretario de la Audiencia Real de Guadalajara, some 69 years before (1531), when Cristobal was 7 years-old. This places his birth around 1524, making him 76 at the time of the inquest (he gives his age as “mas de 74 años poco mas o menos”).

He later states: “dixo ser pariente de Pº Ruiz de Haro de parte de su madre y de su padre segun se lo dijo su madre deste, siendo pequeño Por que su padre del dho Pº Ruiz de Haro q fue Secretario del Duque de Alburquerque y su abuela deste de parte de su padre q se llamava Ysabel de Haro hermana // parientes muy cercanos pero que eso no le ympide a decir la verdad..."

I have a question that's haunting me a little. My great grandmother, Francisca Ríos, appears to be a widow at the moment of marrying my great grandfather: born in 1899, she marries Bartolomé Quezada in 1918, and the registry appears both in civil registration and church records, and it shows even in her baptism record.

However, in 1926 she marries José María Quezada, my great grandfather, saying that she's 22 years old. Her name, her parents' names and even her grandparents' names are exactly the same, but both the civil registry and the church records say she's "célibe", not a widow or anything of the sort. The church record doesn't mention any need for a dispensa, or acknlowledges in any way that previous marriage.

¿Does anyone have an idea of why this could happen? Two registries seem too much to be an honest mistake.

Hello fellow genealogists. Here is an email from a non-profit in my city. If anyone is interested please contact me. We could set up so that we can help with as many or as little projects as you deem reasonable. Just let me know.

"I have started a non-profit with my friend Tara MacDonald called Olive Branch Connections. Our mission is to provide free genealogical research for people who would greatly benefit from hearing their family's story. Right now, we are working with St. John's Program for Real Change, which is a homeless shelter and program for women and children in Sacramento. We have the women fill out pedigrees as far as they know, and we research their family history for them, providing them with a binder of the pedigree, documents, and other stories we discovered.

We have volunteer researchers helping us with the trees. Some of the women have Mexican ancestry, and right now none of our researchers specialize in Mexican research.

Do you know someone who would be willing to help us research for the women with Mexican ancestry?"

There are quite a few new people that have joined the list in recent months. I would like to find a group of volunteers to sign up to offer your methods of doing research. I was thinking that every other week someone could be the educator in cue. If I can find volunteers here are the weeks available just email me (joseph@nuestrosranchos.org) and tell me which week you'd like to take. Also with a just a sentence please let me know of your topic.
