TEST SITE - DO NOT USE - Development only

When you find that a baptism, marriage or burial happened before the earliest record in the church where you have been finding the family records, you want to know which church in the area has earlier records. People moved back and forth from Colotlan to Tlaltenango and other nearby places, making the research more of a challenge since these are in two different states -- which have very erratic borders. So I created a map of the area, showing the earliest baptism year for each parish, taken from the FamilySearch record collection titles for that church.

If you see any churches that I have missed for people in the Colotlan-Tlaltenango area, please let me know. I have intentionally not included churches that began in the 1900's. So the intent is to be able to assume that any place shown without a date either had no church prior to 1900.

¿Desconozco quien fue el padre de Antonio Ruiz de Ulloa? La madre de Antonio fue Isabel Rodas, así lo manifiesta la diligencia de la dispensa matrimonial de Clara Maria Rosalía Carbajal Ruiz, nieta de Antonio. Tal gestión con fecha del 21 de Octubre de 1757, y otorgada a Clara Maria Rosalía Carbajal Ruiz y Juan Isidoro Rentería, en la citada dispensa nombra a Isabel Rodas, como madre de Antonio Ruiz de Ulloa. Clara Maria Rosalía Carbajal Ruiz, hija legitima de Antonia Ruiz de Ulloa de Navarrete y Miguel Teodoro Carbajal Rivera. El motivo que se expidió dicha dispensa matrimonial fue por causa del posible parentesco de consanguinidad en cuarto y tercer grado de los contrayentes. Juan Isidoro hijo de Prudencia Rentería Vasquez y padre no conocido. Se creía que Prudencia Rentería Vasquez (madre de Juan Isidoro) fuese quizás hija natural de Nicolas de Rentería, y Marcela Vasquez. La duda de afinidad de consanguinidad de los contrayentes seria a partir precisamente de Isabel Rodas y Nicolas de Rentería, de acuerdo con lo redactado en la dispensa el celebre Nicolas Rentería e Isabel Rodas hermanos. Quizás alguien del grupo tenga información relevante a esta Isabel Rodas y su hermano Nicolas de Rentería. I don't know if this is even possible but I was wondering if anyone would know how I could find out more information about a Grand Aunt/Great Aunt. Her name is/was Maria Nicolasa Aceves Lomeli. She was a Nun. She used to write letters to my older sister when we were little. They had a difference of opinions and stopped writing to each other. He intentado hallarlo por búsqueda de internet, pero sin éxito. Espero haya alguien aquí que ha escuchado o conoce esta canción. Hi, I am new to the site and am researching the Mata, Cordero, Bravo, Sayabedra, Alvarez and Villalpando lineages.
I have researched my Mata lineage back to my 6th Great Grandfather, Juan Joseph Manuel Mata. I estimate his birth to be between 1745-1750. He married Anastacia Villalpando in Manuel Doblado or San Pedro Piedra Gorda in those days. She was born in 1749. Although the majority of their children were christened in Manuel Doblado the last 3 were christened in Arandas. The majority of my known Mata ancestors were from Arandas, San Jose De La Paz, Degollado and Jesus Maria. It appears that many people had farms or ranches in the highlands in those days and would travel to Manuel Doblado or other local cities for events.
Many of the birth and marriage records show origin references to San Rafael de Los Altos, La Comisaria de Carricillo, and San Rafael which might be the Guadalajara neighborhood. Unfortunately all my research at this point cannot give me a clue to definitively extend the line. In any case I am happy to be here and have been enlightened by the history of Jalisco and Mexico overall.

There is an dramatic change of last name on my ancestors... as I explain below:

1828- Florencio Cabuto & Damiana Lopez, Married June 25- Etzatlan, Jalisco
1827- Serapio Cabuto was baptized on Sep 9 with the Cabuto last name
1881- Serapio Cabuto & Andrea Reyes, Married June 25 (he married with the Cabuto last name)

Serapio and Andrea had 4 children, they are all baptized and registered RODRIGUEZ REYES
instead of Cabuto Reyes, so basically since 1882 my family now has the last name Rodriguez, but we should be Cabuto.

No one new this in my family, it was a big surprise. I was able to also check other descendants of Florencio Cabuto and Damiana ( Serapio's siblings) and they all carried on with the name Cabuto.

Serapio and Andrea continued to live in Etzatlan, its not like they changed names and moved away as in running from something.

I am beyond puzzled by this, and I will never know what truly happen

Has anyone had this happen to you? not a simple mistake on the last name as record keeping wasn't stellar, but a complete change??

Does anyone have any information on Seferino Alonso and Maria Eugena
Tiscareno? Specifically the parents. They would've been born towards the
end of the 1700s, possibly in San Luis Potosi. They had children that were
married and baptized in San Luis Potosi and Zacatecas.

As far as I have been able to tell, the nexus of the Pinedos in Southern Zacatecas and Northern Jalisco seems to be Jerez/Monte Escobedo. Leonardo de la Torre y Berumen seems to think they are all descended or related (as slaves or servants to descendants) to a Rodrigo de Pinedo or Pineda that was one of the captains fighting the Chichimeca War that were the original settlers of Jerez.

I have no definitive proof of this or even that my two Pinedo lineages come from him. My father's Pinedos definitely come from Monte Escobedo. They are descended from a Diego Pinedo who was married to a Gertrudis de Avila. Their son, Lorenzo Pinedo married a granddaughter of Francisco de Escobedo (founder of San Andres Astillero, which later came to be known as Monte Escobedo). Their children were born in in San Andres Astillero. One of them later moved to Totatiche and is one of the progenitors of the name in the region.

The other two are a Diego Pinedo who is a mulato in the early 1700s in Colotlan and had lots of children and a Francisco Pinedo who appears in Tlaltenango around 1700. Before that there are no Pinedos in Tlaltenango other than a son of one of the mayors in the early 1700s who appears to have left no descendancy in the area. Francisco Pinedo appears to have immigrated from Tayahua, Zacatecas (in what is now Villanueva) since the marriage of his oldest son states that he was born in Tayahua. That makes sense and would explain why he doesn't appear anywhere before that date since the records for Tayahua are missing for those years.

It is hard to say where to look but the Pinedos are concentrated in a cocentric circle around Monte Escobedo... Colotlan, Totatiche, Monte Escobedo, Tepetongo and Jerez. What are the approximate dates for your great-grandparents baptisms/marriages? Most of those municipalities are well indexed and your ancestors would show up if they were there which makes me think they may be in an unindexed place like Valparaiso or something of the sort. Nicanor's marriage document does not list his birthplace? How about your grandfather's baptism certificate. Does it list his grandparents? Do these match those from Nicanor's marriage document?

Me surgió la duda sobre la ascendencia de Fulgencio González de Ruvalcaba o González de Hermosillo por el lado materno. Jaime Holcombe según sus notas puso que Fulgencio González de Ruvalcaba casado con Josepha Sánchez de los Hinojos era el 15 de diciembre de 1686 en Aguascalientes, era hijo del capitán Joseph González de Ruvalcaba, el padre está bien, pero a cuanto la madre Holcombe puso Ana González Florida hija de Francisco Muñoz de la Barba y Catalina Gutiérrez Rubio me surge la duda aquí.

En mi libro que se publicará pronto encontrarán un partida matrimonial del tenor siguiente

“15 de diciembre de 1686
Fulgencio González de Hermosillo hijo lexítimo de Joseph González de Ruvalcaba y Ana de Hermosillo vesinos todos de la villa de los Lagos aviendo el contenido presentado licencia de su parocho y certifiación con Josepha Sánchez de los Hinojos hija lexítima de del capitán Nicolás Fernández de Palos y Leonor Sánchez de los Hinojos vesinos de esta jurisdicción. Testigos el capitán don Francisco de Lomas, alcalde maior, Nicolás de Aguilera, Alcalde hordinario y Alonso Navarrete.’

Aquí nota que Fulgencio utilizaba Hermosillo también conocido cualquier González de Ruvalcaba o González de Hermosillo, lo he visto solo como González varias veces. Era hijo de Joseph González de Ruvacaba y Ana de HERMOSILLO. Según la genealogía que da Holcombe esta Ana "Gonzalez Florida" ni tiene nada que ver con Hermosillo.

Según Holcome es lo siguiente Ana González Florida era hija de Francisco Muñoz de la Barba y Catalina Gutiérrez Rubio. Estos últimos de Juan Muñoz de la Barba y Ana de Espíndola; Francisco Gutiérrez de la Vega y Ana González Florida.

Si se fijan todas las partidas de los bautismos de los vástagos de Joseph González de Ruvalcaba y Ana González de Hermosillo (o como conocíamos Florida) nunca menciona Ana como González Florida solo González salvo el último bautismo que nos da luz, el bautismo de Ana bautizada en Santa María de los Lagos el 23 de marzo de 1651 hija de Juseph Gonçález de Ruvalcaba y Ana Gonçalez de Hermoçillo. Ahora quiénes son los padres de Ana de Hermosillo o Ana González de Hermosillo?

Aunque respeto el trabajo que ha hecho don Jaime Holcombe me pregunto cuánts líneas hubo confusión o sin comprobación. Esta línea es importantísima es parte del núcleo de los alteños.

No reliable complete index exists of the Colotlan baptisms of the early 1800's -- not on Ancestry, not on FamilySearch, not in the church books themselves. I discovered this when I found records in the church books that I then tried to find using Ancestry and FamilySearch indexes, and many of them were not in any index.

While our family has a great many names in Colotlan, the immediate need was for Marquez baptisms in the early 1800's, which will be followed by the need for baptisms a generation earlier.

So I realized that the only way to find all the Colotlan Marquez baptisms was to go page by page and record by record through the hundreds of pages of church books and make a spreadsheet of all the baptisms of children of a Marquez parent.

That spreadsheet is now available at http://www.wwjohnston.net/famhist/#mexican -- be sure to read the "About this spreadsheet" worksheet. The work is not yet done, so that there will be more updates as time allows for the research.
