There are no parents identified in this record. This is a problem that has
become a block wall for me on several lines. For a series of years (about
the first third of the 18th century, 1752, 1785) no parents are identified
for any of the "pretensos" -- the bride and groom -- on the microfilmed
records for marriages in Nochistlan. Since the abuelos were not indentified
in the christening records till the latter part of 1798, where do I turn
without having to make a trip to Nochistlan to break down these walls? So
far I have only looked at the films of matrimonios and bautismos on loan
from the Family History Center in SLC.

Ojala que ya no lo tenemos. No e oido de los otros. voy a tener que
pidir por ayuda otra vez.

gracias

Will the above members please try to access my personal briefcase to
see

if that will be a good place to store additional Files in the future.

You need to go to "Links" then to "Genealogies" then to Click on

"AntonioPuenteAnnaPlacencia

makas_nc="" bc="" f2.pg.briefcase.yahoo.com="">"

and t! hen see if you can access both either one of the files in my

briefcase. If you all can then I might have found a solution to our

storage file problem. . .at least it will give us an additional 30 mb

which is more than we have now.

thanks,

Sebastian de Vlloa

Deena,

I was in Nochistlan last September and found that they have less information than the IGI does. I think that it might be possible to get more information in Guadalajara than in Nochistlan. In Nochistlan they only have archived the more recent information as in the last 120 years or around that time frame. They were reluctant to pull anything that was not on their computerized data base or they didn't have it there. My sister in-laws sister was, until her death in 2003 in charge of Tlachichila's Parish Records for about 40 years. Tlachichila is in the Municipio de Nochistlan and she said that most of the older records were in storage in Guadalajara. In order to gain access to those records you must be either a historian, professor, someone with influence in the Catholic church or you must present a good case to them as to why you would like to see these records. Maybe by our membership in this genealogical group collectively we could petition these records. Something to
consider?

Digest Number 497

Has anyone traced the Ulloa family in Nochistlan back to the early 1600s?
According to Clotilde Evelia Quiarte in her book on Nochistlan, Gaspar de
Casareal y Ulloa was a founder of Nochistlan. Does anyone have Gaspar's
descendants?

I am interested because I have my grandmother Ulloa's ancestor back to
Sebastian de Ulloa born about 1704 and can't get beyond this. Perhaps
someone has done Gaspar downwards and I can use the data to link up.

Sincerely,

Charles Clark

Hi Natalie.

I have been trying to access news from Los Altos, Jal., notably in the
Arandas-Jesus Maria regions, also, but I haven't had any luck as of yet.

I have only found Catholic church publications.

Please let me know, if you're able, if you happen on any of these regional
publications.

Historic Newspapers

I'd suggest emailing the University of Guadalajara closest to your
target area and asking them for which time period they have newspapers
in their archives. Then you'd have to travel there to see them if they
have what you need.

Does anyone know of the existence of archives of newspapers in

Thanks to all for sharing your ideas and expertise - this is always a
great place for learning.

How to Submit Genealogies

Well I prefer Genealogy reports but if you really want you can do
charts. Put them in .rtf or .doc format for genealogy reports or .pdf
for charts.

what genealogy program are you using? Send them to me and I'll make up
a folder for you in the Files area and only group members will have
access to them.

let me know if you need help with this,

Arturo I would ordinarily say yes as your work might help someone else,
but we are at 80% capacity in the Files area and I want to reserve that
for the new members who I am expecting to submit their genealogies in
the near future.

thanks for the offer though and if we figure out how to get past this
storage problem I'll let you know so you can post this work.

Telephone Oral History

Oh wow Emilie,

That is just terrible. But then I make myself wonder what if someone out of
the blue had called me and said this to me before I ever started doing my
geneology thing.

Plus a lot of us are not here legally, you know what I mean? So we just want
to keep a low profile. Of course their could be other reasons as well.

But anyways I will be praying you get a break through.

Yes, Joseph, I too have had, if not hostile, then indifferent and evasive
reactions to my inquiries of distant cousins even here in the US. My sister
still lives in Silicon Valley where we were raised, and she found a second
cousin in the phone book that also lives in San Jose. He admitted being
related (his father and our father were first cousins), but when she asked
for a meeting, he kept putting her off saying he didn't know anything about
family trees, etc. Our father and his father are long gone. He said his
mother might have some pictures. When my sister called the mother, she
denied having any pictures or documents (which is hard to believe). My
sister has been calling his mother, and she keeps putting off meeting with
her. My sister tried calling the cousin again, and he had changed his phone
number! Talk about being wary and suspicious!

Since we are female, have no brothers, and my father had no brothers, my
sister and I have been looking for male Olague relatives in order to submit
DNA to the University of Arizona to see which haplogroup our father belonged
to. Imagine trying to get a person like our reluctant cousin to submit a
DNA sample when we can't even get to first base! We might have to bribe him
or one of his sons big time. We'll see.
