Hi,
I need to download a Chromosome Browser file from http://www.dnagedcom.com/ through the Family Tree DNA link, for the Nueva Galicia DNA project, which I did.

However, when I open it, there's nothing there except some headers.  I thought there would be other info.
What should I be seeing, and what am I doing wrong?  FYI, I use Firefox on a MacBook Pro.

Thanks, Laura Gonzalez

I don't think there is any connection at all, besides the fact that all three cultures share common ancestors if you go back tenths of thousands of years. I think each one developed their building technologies independently and on very different historic ages.

Mia,

I do believe there is a connection between Ana Francisca de Gabay and Moctezuma II Xocoyotzin, but, honestly I've only been doing research for about a year longer than you and mostly just after school, so, I'm sure there are others that could explain it better. I can tell you that Ana Francisca de Gabay y Moctezuma is the daughter of Martin Navarro de Gabay and Petronila de Moctezuma and I don't believe there is any documentation beyond that. I will also say there is a lot of misleading genealogical information about Petronila de Moctezuma, some of it probably completely false, so, anything beyond Petronila is just speculation.

Hola Armando y NuestrosRancheros,

Hola Armando,

Thanks for the feedback. Indeed the calculations I made are almost identical since the Mediterranean : North European proportions in my samples are very similar to the ones form the modern Spanish_D tables. I find this very interesting, almost as if the second set of results was confirming the first one. I agree that in the example I gave the Southwest Asian, West Asian and South Asian percentiles need to be added to my Spanish total (either all or just part of them).

I wish I could compare my future Geno2.0 results to the FamilyFinder ones, but it won't be so easy since I bought Geno2.0 for myself (given my curiosity on my own ethnic percentiles and my idea of a large database of local populations from the Genographic project) and the FamilyFinder tests for samples from my parents (in order to take advantage of the distant family matching of FamilytreeDNA). Unfortunately I can not afford buying every test for everyone I would like to test in my family.

Thanks again

Comment

Hola Victoriano,

Your Mediterranean and North_European are almost exactly 70% of the Spanish_D. (The D stands for Dodecad). So I took 70% of everything else that Spanish_D has and put it in your Spanish percentage and subtracted that amount from the different Asian and African percentages. Then I placed the remaining amounts into your Amerindian and African percentages. You come out 71.24% Spanish, 27.81 Amerindian, and 0.64 African. You have a lot more Spanish than most Mexicans but about the same as most Alteños that show all or most of their ancestors to be españoles.

The following doesn't align perfectly so you have to count the headers and the columns to be sure you are on the correct group when looking at the percentages.

Victoriano Spanish_D Spanish Amerindian African
Siberian 0.02 0.00 0.00 0.02 0.00
Amerindian 20.22 0.00 0.00 20.22 0.00
West_African 1.33 0.90 0.63 0.00 0.43
Palaeo_African 0.21 0.10 0.07 0.00 0.11
Southwest_Asian 8.10 5.60 3.92 4.18 0.00
East_Asian 0.00

Comment

Hi Armando,

Thanks for the analysis. I also used the Spanish_D data for the calculations and came up with the following results:

When doing the math based on North European percentile: 69.77% Spanish, 21.37% Amerindian, 7.87% Asian and 0.73% African.

When doing the math based on Mediterranean percentile: 70.21% Spanish, 21.37% Amerindian, 7.82% Asian and 0.76% African.

I see you add all the Asian populations when calculating Amerindian %, but I’m not sure if that’s quite right. I agree if you add the East Asian, Siberian and Arctic (at least the Asian and American parts), but not so much when adding the Southwest Asian, East Asian and South Asian percentiles. I don’t know how are the Dodecad people mapping those regions, but at least according to Wikipedia Southwest Asia and Western Asia are the same as the Middle East (Arabic peninsula, Israel and Palestine, Turkey, Iran, Iraq, etc.) while South Asia includes mainly India and Pakistan (other neighbouring countries may or not be

Comment

Hola Victoriano,

Your two calculations aren’t very different from each other. They are almost identical.
I hope the following gives some insight on why I was wrong on the Asian components.
If you look at the spreadsheet all of the Iberian groups, except Basques, have Southwest Asian. That includes the Portuguese. Canarias and Murcia have a tiny amount of East Asian, all other Iberians have none. All Iberians including Basques have West Asian. All Iberians except for those from Andalucía (from the 1,000 Genomes project) have South Asian. Therefore, at least a portion of Southwest Asian, West Asian and South Asian need to be added to your Spanish total if not all of it. You don’t have East Asian and neither do most Iberians. The rest was hard for me to tell. We know that our Amerindian ancestors came from Siberia and they must have had some Asian components and probably some of the other components such as Arctic and Siberian, but once I look at the Maya population from Li et al. Hola Mario,

Does anyone know what books cover the colonial history of the municipalities of Jalisco that are near the southeast shoreline of Laguna Chapala? The municipalities that are of greatest interest to me are Mazamitla, Quitupan, and Valle de Juarez, Jalisco. Those municipalities are close to Sahuayo, and Cotija, Michoacan. My historical research of the area has come up dry. Not much more could be said for my genealogical research of the area, either. I also want to know what clans settled in those three Jalisco municipalities and how Valle de Juarez came

Alejandra Varela.... I agree with the other comments i think is use to refer just a friend.. in Poncitlan Jalisco was the first place i heard it... they say it a LOT there..

Comment

Gilberto,

Mr. Navarro is correct, it means..."Valedor"(Friend), I migth be wrong, but as far as I know, the word "Vale" is very much used in Michoacan, I never heard anyone from Jalisco, Sinaloa or Nayarit used it, but then there could be execptions. I grew up in the Cienega Michoacana region, near La Barca Jalisco (which belongs to the Cienega Jaliciense region, south of Los Altos region) and I remember some people refer to others as "Vale"; also "Primo" & "Compa" are very common in that region.

Comment

I have never heard friends or family from Jalisco say Quiubole Vale, Ándale Vale, Mira Vale, or Ese Vale.

It does seem to be a very rare slang word. It doesn't even show up in dictionaries of Mexicanismos, Modismos Mexicanos, or Terminos Mexicanos.

Armando

Comment

If it is used when referring to someone, I guess it might be an abbreviation of "valedor" (according to the RAE dictionary, someone who protects someone else), which was a synonym of "friend", "dude", etc. in Mexico City I would say probably around the 1950's. I think it appears in the films by Pedro Infante, Tin-Tan, etc.(soy tu valedor).

It is indeed also a synonym of OK. Spaniards say just "vale" and Mexicans "sale y vale".

It also may mean someone doesn't care or give a damn, as in "me vale", "le vale", being an abbreviation of the phrase with the word "madres" at the end, which in this case is used as a synonym of "something insignificant".

I have a tree on family search, since I am a member of the church that is the only way to add my family name to have their work done. But I have a main tree on genealogy.com and also have two trees, my mom's side and my dad's side, on tribalpages.com I use the family search tree only for the church. It's not that bad of a tree and when you sign up for it it will ask if you are a member of the church or not.

Hello David,

Although I use FS all the time and it helps me considerably in my research, I
have not used the family tree. I have actually just started mine and edited my profile and my husband, and that is all for now. I do plan on creating my tree there on FS eventually. My family tree is on Ancestry.com.

Hi Raul - I am reasearching the names - Castañeda and Flores. Primarily Castañeda, and really looking at Rafael Castañeda and Simona Flores. To be honest, I'm not even sure I should be looking in Juchipila. My great grandfather, Hilario Castañeda, was born in Moyahua in 1867 to a Manuel Castañeda and Secundina Yñiguez. The paternal grandparents were listed as Rafael Castañeda and Simona Flores. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find any records for a Manuel Castañeda in Moyahua (no birth, marriage, or death records). There are only birth and marriage records for his children which show Rafael and Simona as the paternal grandparents. I started looking in Mezquital del Oro because that is where Hilario eventually ended up but was not able to find anything there. Then one day, I found several indexed marriage records in Juchipila listing a Domingo Castañeda, son of Rafael Castañeda and Simona Flores. I thought maybe the reason I was not finding anything for Manuel or Rafael in

-Daniel

I'd never seen the name Morquecho before, so i checked to see if anyone had any relation to it in NR, and your post turned up. You may not be looking for morquechos, but any else who does a search of the morquecho name will see this post.

Other than that, i can see we share the name Araujo, mine from armadillo de los infantes...

Hello Roberto,

Glad to meet you via Nuestros Ranchos, we may have many relatives in common. My family and Ancestors are from the regions you are researching.

Hope we may be able to help each other. Daniel Mendez has researched these regions and may be of great help too.

Saludos.

Welcome primo Roberto,

For someone so young, you have made much progress and you will be a great asset to this group and I know that this group of people will be valuable to you in your research, especially when it comes to those brick walls.

I hope to see you at our conference coming up on September 14th in Sacramento.

Subject: [Nuestros Ranchos] Introduction for Roberto Rosales

Hello,
my name is Roberto Rosales Villalpando, and I recently started doing genealogy
research. Growing up I was always curious about my family history. Sadly, I
wandered around with many questions, but no answers. Now, that I am going for a
biology major I have found a passion in genealogy, I do not know why, but
knowing who my ancestors were gives me a sense of belonging. Now I know more
about my family than my only great-grandmother still living.
