This information comes from the baptismal record of Maria Placida Magallanes Franco.

Hey Rick, thanks for the prompt reply. Hope you are well. Until recently, I've known that information since my childhood, with the exception of Telésfora.

I continue searching for information on Don Aniceto (Aniseto) Magallanes, his vitals, origin, ancestors, and descendants, as well as that information pertaining to Don José María Rodrígues (Rodríguez). Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Comment

Hello Jesus,

It’s not that you are doing anything wrong, it’s that “Magallanes” is often abbreviated many different ways. You are going to have to get creative and come up with as many abbreviations that you can think of and just keep trying those abbreviations in familysearch. I had a hard time finding documents on one of my recent ancestors and finally, after many years, found his birth records with an abbreviated surname. If you don’t find him under an abbreviated surname, then you may want to cast a wider net as he may have originally been from somewhere else and traveled to Zacatecas.

Don’t give up. For some of my ancestors it took over two decades to find them. You never know when you are going to strike gold.

Rick A. Ricci

P. S. That ancestor that I couldn’t find for many years was a great great grandfather surnamed Rodríguez (Rodg.). He lived a long time. His daughter from his third marriage married a maternal uncle of Presidente Fox.

Comment

Hey Rick,

Thank you very much for the feedback and encouragement. I'll start looking at several abbreviations and then start organizing myself a little more and come up with a game plan. Weird I'm good at looking up the living, but your insight is helping me set my thoughts in order. I really appreciate it.

Comment

Hi Jesus,

There is a lead on seeing if there is more information on Jose Sabas Pacheco and Serapia Rodríguez. Look up the baptismal record of Jose Cresencio Pacheco Rodríguez on the 2/January/1881 in Valparaiso. I believe that there may be a mistake in that date, but check out that film and search out the baptismal record.

This link will put you in the ballpark of where you want to look for this record : https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939N-YT9C-X?i=61&cc=1804458

Good Luck,
Rick

Comment

Hello Jesus,

I believe that Luis Magallanes is also known as Norberto Magallanes so let’s call him Luis Norberto Magallanes.

There is a death record for Luis Magallanes dated 27/May/1880 where it states that he is eighty years old, son of Aniceto Magallanes and Bonifacia Laralda aka Bonifacia Muñoz, and widower of Romualda Mendiola.

While searching for records of Romualda Mendiola, Her husbands name is listed as Norberto Magallanes. That is why I believe that Luis and Norbeto Magallanes are the same person.

Good luck in your research,
Glad I could help,

Rick A. Ricci

Comment

Wow! Thanks a bunch, Rick! That'll help out a lot! I did find an entry in ancestry.com that doesn't show a document, but shows "Alfonso" Magallanes and Francisca Franco, as parents of Plácida Magallanes Franco, instead of Camilo. Weird.

I started looking at the Rodriguez surname using different variants, and have come up with more information that I need to verify.

I know a Mendiola family. Maybe they're descendants too. That's for later.

Comment

Hello Jesus,

I found a document that clearly read Remigio Franco instead of Higinio Franco so we may have been misreading his first name all along.

For now we should identify him as Remigio “Higinio” Franco until we can clarify why we have come up with different first names for this person. It may be just how we read the script or the scribe misunderstood what he was told and wrote one instead of the other. Or one is his nickname while the other was his baptismal name.

Higinio Remigio Franco does have a son of named Remigio so it is possible that the son’s name was confused with the father’s name.
Rick A. Ricci

Comment

Hi Rick,

Oh wow. It wouldn't occur to me to think that the scribe would do either, but it does make sense after reading many slides.

But then you're also right. Some folks would provide certain information.

And then we have another situation with another member of the Tree, but I think I'll post it as a separate topic, due to its complexity. This one, ironically, reminds me of a recent Spanish series. It's complicated.

Stay safe and have a good Night, Rick!

Hello Joseph,

With regards to the new update, I found this:

"Drupal 9 is built in Drupal 8, using deprecations and optional updated dependencies. ... Drupal 9.0 involves the removal of some deprecated code, but introduces no new features; it's a continuation of the fully-tested, stable codebase that is Drupal 8."

There is more insightful information on that website. If you're currently on Drupal 7, or even 8, I'd say go with the update. If the ISP can work with it, then it'll be a good choice to upgrade.

Really it is not about the money as $300 is not very much. I'm just wanting to see if there is truly enough interest in the group to support this effort. Even if one of the letters I receive has $300 I'll be returning them ALL if I do not have 30 separate contributions. The only ones I might NOT be returning are those that come to me without a RETURN ADDRESS because the way I'll return them is to mark them REFUSED and they should be RETURNED TO SENDER.

Just for your information as of 9/23 I have 6 contributions so things are not looking good.

Also if I didn’t explain it clearly If I DO NOT receive 30 separate contributions I WILL NOT be shutting down the site but if the site one days stops working due to needing maintenance then I’ll remember this failed effort to raise funds and consider it the time to let the group go.

Dear Cynthia,

Though I don’t have more information on Julio Mercado’s parents, I do have a couple of puzzle pieces to add that may lead to more information. It seems that Julio is a couple of decades older than his wife Francisca Alvarado, so he may have had a previous marriage. Another lead is that his wife “Francisca Alvarado” is shown as “Francisca Pacheco” in two records.

I found an engagement record dated 12/26/1846 for Francisca in Zacatecas, Zacatecas where she was to be married to Heleno Cabrera. This record lists her parents which match other records, and states her age and place of origin as Maguey, Zac. There are other Pacheco Alvarado family members with records in Maguey, but I don't know what came of this marriage or Heleno Cabrera. The timing matches with Julio and Francisca's daughter Dorotea's birth around 1850 if they were married a couple of years before her birth.

I found Julio listed as a padrino in his brother-in-law's Jerez marriage information record in April 1862 where he list his age as 25, and he states he has know his brother-in-law for ten years. This is my first record of Julio. There is also Julio's daughter Bonifacia's Jerez 1863 death record at age 7 where Julio and Francisca's ages are listed as 20 which is completely wrong since the child was 7. Hello Cynthia,

I took a look at the engagement record that you mentioned, and that makes it three records with the surname “Pacheco” for Francisca. It is great that this record identifies that her surname “A. Pacheco” comes from her father, Jose Gerardo Alvarado Pacheco. I am assuming that the “A.” Stands for “Alvarado” since all the other records that we have seen from this family identify them with the “Alvarado” surname. It is also fortunate that this record identifies her age and has her being born circa 1826.

Joseph Gerardo (Xerado)Alvarado Pacheco y Garcia is the son of Joseph Alvino Alvarado and Juana Maria Josepha Garcia.

Joseph Gerardo Alvarado Pacheco y Garcia was baptized on 2/July/1769 in Malpaso, Villanueva, Zacatecas.

Thank you Jesus Ibarra for asking about the parents of Diego Zuñiga. Like you, I had also seen the erroneous posts naming Alonso de Zúñiga and Isabel de Villasirga as his parents. Thanks to your post asking for evidence, we now have clarification from Richard Ibarra as to his real parents, Diego Zuñiga and Mariana Diaz.

Thanks again to Richard Ibarra for providing the conclusive evidence,

Hi Tocayo,

I am glad the testamento of Diego de Zúñiga is helpful for you!

Incidentally, I wanted to ask if you would be willing to share your most current thoughts on the ancestry of Carlos Lomelin. Of course, I plan on purchasing your book once it is published, but there are a couple of reasons I could share via email why I wanted to ask for your thoughts now. I would be grateful for anything you are willing to share. Here is my email: richrocks92@gmail.com

Rick Ibarra is asking about your opinion about Carlo Lomellini; I'm also interested since he is also my ancestor. My email jesusibarra1964@gmail.com

By the way have any of you both found something about Gonzalo Núñez de Sotomayor's parents? I have fpund diffent post with different information, but anything certain. Thank you both.

Estimado Erik,

Thank you Erik for sharing your work. I enjoy reading about the information that you will present in your book. I descend from the Flores and Osorio families repeatedly. I also have descent from the Osorio family through the Cornejo family from “los Altos de Jalisco” that descends from the maternal aunt of Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz. In my research of these Cornejo ancestors, I read that there are some papers in the United States Capitol library that holds much information on their descent from Pedro Alvarez Osorio. There may be information in those records that shows the relationship between the Flores family and Pedro Alvarez de Osorio. Once I get ahold of these papers, I will share the information with you.

Some people have credited me for some of your work, but that is not my doing. They have given me credit finding the correct Juan Pantoja that is the father of Bernardina Mendoza. Whenever this has happened, I let them know that you are the one that provided me

Comment

Hi Rick,

I am happy to read you as always! I am gathering as much as I can of these Flores of Villamañán and Salamanca to present a coherent and documented family tree as far and wide as possible. The connection with the Osorio is there but it is still vague since they are only mentioned as "relatives to the count of Trastámara".

What I will do is provide the evidence and documents hoping that the connection with the counts of Trastámara eventually comes to light, or perhaps someone else will find the connection.

Regarding my comment about giving credit. I have done the same with the second edition of the Reinoso book. There are parts in the chapter of Nueva Galicia where I mention you and your findings.

My comment was directed to some characters that have been creating chaos in the Familysearch trees of Nueva Galicia (the so-called trolls).
Those have been gathering info from the shadows and then they upload it without giving proper credit, without mentioning the sources -in case

Hello Mr. Rick A. Ricci.
I'm a descendant of Bernardina de Mendoza by two lines and I'm researching about her. I have not been lucky about her son-in-law, Diego de Zúñiga, her daughter Luisa de Mendoza's husband. I haven't been able to find the name of his parents. I only have some hints of who might have been his parents: Alonso de Zúñiga and Isabel de Villasirga, but I don't have any source or proof of this.
Do you have any information?
I would appreciate it.
Thank you and congratulations for all your research.

Hey Erlinda,

I don't have the FamilySearch link to the document because it was shared with me as an image over email. I did ask for the link, so as soon as I get it I will post it here. I was told it was a loose sheet from the Jerez archives.

In the meantime, I can either forward it to you by email or you can see it on Ancestry, where I posted it on my public tree. I attached it to the profiles of every single one of the people mentioned in it. My username over there is the same as my handle here.

I emailed you the dispensa; Linda. Looking forward to reading what you and the rest the cousins make of it.

So I just realised that the info on this dispensa doesn't quite match the info the dispensa of Felipe Santiago de Orta and Antonia de los Dolores Barragán. That one puts Sebastian de la Torre (cc Ana del Rio) as brother of Juan de la Torre (cc Angela Velasco) while, this one of Prudencio and Rafaela lists him as Juan and Angela's son. I assume it ws easy to confuse one Juan for the other (father and son). I suppose it can become clearer with birthdates, but I am not on top of all that info yet. Hopefully someone can solve this (apparent?) mystery/confusion as well as the one regarding Manuel's parent's. Everything else seems to check out, but I will reread the Orta Barragán dispensa and other documents that might help me clarify.

Hey Erlinda and all the rest,

I have been re-studying the dispensas and after somebody pointed out to me that I/we need to take into consideration how close in time the witnesses in these dispensas are to the people mentioned as ancestors, it has become very clear that the information on the Prudencio and Rafaela dispensa regarding the parentage Manuel de la Torre is wrong and the information on the Roque de la Torre and Juana de la Torre dispensa is correct. It's obviously Juan and Angela, not Juan Jr. and Agueda (del Rio y Olague!). Not a scribe mistake, but a witness lack of precise knowledge.

Hi Denise,

Yes, There is something interesting here in the census of San Antonio 1718. If you compare this census with the census of San Antonio in 1763 where the population got a little bigger in 1763 but they all have the same surnames of the people of 1718.

I see two of them Joseph Velasquez, Antonio and Agustin Perez. If they are the same ones in my family tree. Velasquez was originally from Xerez.

Hey dear Katy,
I’m sorry about the super late reply and thank you so much for sharing all this material and all the work.
Rosalinda and I are still busy looking through each and every one of the dispensas that could help us figure out what is up with Juan and Maria (and) Clara (and Juan). We promise to soon share our conclusions (or atraer more solid suspicions).

Comment

Hey cousins! Rosalinda, Erlinda, Katy, Sandra, Joseph...

I decided to open another thread even though it's related to this one because it's more about the larger de la Torre family (the Juan de la Torre and Angela de Velasco trunks, to be more precise) rather the more specific Quezada-de la Torre one. Letting you know here just in case you only see this thread.

Now a request:

I have the image of the document which records the death/burial of Gertrudis Quezada (daughter of Felipe Quezada and María de la Torre, and wife of Antonio Enríquez de Ulloa). Problem is I can't find the link to it anywhere: not on Family Search, not on Ancestry, not on WikiTree... I cannot for the life of my remember where I got it from. Can anybody help?

Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: found it on Ancestry https://www.ancestry.mx/imageviewer/collections/60017/images/004722128_…
I will keep keep looking for it on FamilySearch, but if anybody has it, I'll be very thankful.

UPDATE 2: a couple of new friends with infinitely more experience and skills was kind enough to share the link with me so I'm posting it as well (hey Julio and Rosalinda):

Thank you. I was very excited to find this post today. I believe Juan de la Torre and Maria Clara Chavez y Banuelos may be my 7th great grandparents. I have been researching them as possible parents of Agustin de la Torre (married to Catharina Gonzales). This gives me more to look at.

Hey Sandra.
There is a Tlaltenango document from 1723 which confirms that Agustín de la Torre was the son of Capitan Juan de la Torre and Doña Clara de Chavez. It also mentions Catarina Gonzalez and her parents Juan González and Maria Carrillo. Have you seen it? I don't have the link to FamilySearch readily available, but I do have the jpg that Joseph de Leon (author of the post previous to yours) shared on Ancestry.

Hi, Maria Gertrudis Quesada born about 1709 is my 5th great grandmother.

Comment

I just wanted to pop in here and say that I descend from Felipe and Maria, along with Maria Gertrudis, their daughter, and Felipe and Maria's son Manuel.

I've searched for Felipe's parents for many years, with no success. It's very likely that he came from somewhere else (maybe another part of Zacatecas or Aguascalientes, where there are other Quezadas), but without a marriage record for Felipe and Maria, we may be out of luck. There is always a chance that there is a record out there with more information, perhaps unindexed.

Katy and Erlinda are my cousins; my DNA is on Ancestry and FTDNA, but I use initials-- JJ for FTDNA and R Ruiz for Ancestry. If you'd like, we can exchange info to see how close our cousinship is. I always like to add a new cousin to the tree!

Rosalinda

Comment

Hey Rosalinda! Yes, let's definitely exchange info. I also tested with Ancestry and FTDNA (mtDNA), but I also uploaded my data to GEDmatch, MyHeritage, LivingDNA... On Ancestry my username is the same as my handle here.

I just looked for you on my matches list, but I don't think I see you. Perhaps I match somebody else in your family? MQ and I, for example, share 60cM on FTDNA (it's probably like half of that because they are including under 5cM fragments in the total number which are probably IBC instead of IBD)...

I also descend from Gertrudis but via her son Florencio Enriquez who married Maria de Jesús Bañuelos de la Torre (daughter of Jacinto Dionisio Bañuelos Muñoz and Bartola Cipriana de la Torre y Haro).

Too bad about the lack of paper trail on Felipe's side. So many kids and still not one mention of the paternal grandparents. Lazy scribes they got...Hopefully there's a dispensa out there somewhere yet to be found.

Comment

Fantastic, thank you so much! Looking forward to help you break a wall sometime, somewhere.

(I wasn't aware of the existence of Orta, but I'm adding all the information on this dispensa to my tree so I can better understand how the braid is further braided and figure out where else the paper trail connects him to Maria de la Torre, wife of Felipe Quezada.)

(Btw, Katy, I was looking around your entries on wikitree, and the name Miguel Quezada keeps popping up. I match someone with his name on GEDmatch, as well as a "MQ" and a "JQ" on Ancestry whose kits are managed by someone with your last name, so I guess he is/they are your family.)

Comment

I just read the entire dispensa of Orta and Barragán. Mexican telenovelas got nothing on this bunch. Orta had to testify not only on his familial links to his bride but to his two previous wives and how the women were also related to each other!

Now I am also wondering also about two of the witnesses on the dispensa: Casimiro Olague de Etulain and Roque Jacinto de la Torre.

I've seen Casimiro listed in some trees as the husband of Rosa de la Torre y de la Torre, one of the sisters of Roque Jacinto de la Torre Valdez (the second witness in the dispensa).

Roque Jacinto and Rosa I have in my notes as children of Roque de la Torre y Valdez Haro and Juana de la Torre. (Roque Sr. I understand was the co-founder of Juanchorrey, and son of Alferez Diego de la Torre y Valdez Gamboa and Ana Francisca de Haro. On the other hand, Juana de la Torre I got down as daughter of Manuel de la Torre y Renteria and Josefa Gonzalez de Haro).

So, has anybody found anything about Casimiro (and Rosa)? In

Comment

Wow, that's a whole lot of Quezada/Quesada, Katy. As far as I know, Gertrudis is the only kid of Felipe and Maria that I descend from, so it's helpful to locate the specific chromosomal fragments I share with your grandpa and granduncle because those might be what we inherited specifically from either Gertrudis or Felipe: I have a 7cM triangulated match with both Miguel and Jose Manuel on chromosome 9 and then 11cM+ with your grandpa also on chromosome 12 and with Miguel on chromosome 6. But I'll take a closer look at their trees to see where else we intersect (surely in at least a few other lines, given the endogamy in the region).

You are so lucky that you were able to test so high up on your tree. The highest I can get now on my maternal side is an aunt because neither my grandparents nor my mom are around anymore. It was my mom's recent passing, btw, which flung me into genealogical research.

Anyway, I hope the names of the parents of Felipe Quezada pop up somewhere soon

Comment

Let's see if I got this straight by just looking at my tree:

Maria Clara Chavez y Bañuelos is the daughter of Isabel de Soto y Almeida and Juan José Chavez de Bañuelos. Juan José is son of Pedro Chavez y Bañuelos and Quiteria Gamboa (/Guzman?).

Juan de la Torre is the son of Angela Velasco Renteria y Mojica (daughter of Sancho and Agueda del Rio y Loza) and Juan del Campo y de la Torre, who is the son of Juan del Campo and Juana Gamboa, the sister of Clara's grandmother Quiteria, right?

Ok, I see now where the name Leonor comes from.

In the dispensa of Miguel de Mayorga and Maria de Chávez Carlos, this is the trunk that is presented
Pedro de Chávez y Bañuelos and Quiteria Gamboa
Luisa de Chávez ….. …1….. Leonor de Chávez (sisters)
Nicolas de Mayorga ……2……..Joseph de Chávez
Miguel de Mayorga …….3………Maria de Chávez Carlos

Miguel de Mayorga and Maria de Chávez Carlos are the parents of Francisca Mayorga, mother of Prudencio de León.
Prudencio married Maria Joseph’s de Santiago, the daughter of Luisa del Muro, granddaughter of Andrea de la Torre, great-granddaughter of our Clara. So yep, our Clara is daughter of Leonor, not Isabel de Soto y Almeida. Maria and Clara are two different people who seem to be related between them. Perhaps cousins? Is it possible that Captain Juan de la Torre Valdes married the two cousins? New theory.

Comment

the dispensation claiming leonor chavez and jose chavez got married and had kids probably had an error in it since it conflicts with older dispensa with miguel mayorga. it seems that leonor and juan jose are siblings and leonor had a natural son named jose. not sure who the bio father was but leonor must have died when her son was young and he was raised by his uncle.
I had a discussion with manuel dominguez on wikitree about this and we came to the conclusion that what i stated above is the most likely reason why the dispensas conflict with each other

Comment

Hey Katy and Erlinda,

Do you know which dispensa specifically claims that Leonor and Joseph Chávez married each other?

The way that I came to the conclusion that our Clara is daughter of Leonor de Chavez and Joseph de Chavez Sr. was by combining ONLY the Miguel de Mayorga/Maria Chavez Carlos dispensa with the Prudencio de Leon/Maria Josefa de Santiago one. I traced the relationships on paper to try to understand using exclusively the info posted on those two. I don’t think they contradicted each other at all, but rather complemented each other, but will check again to be sure. The only thing they contradicted was the info of Isabel Soto as Clara’s mom. But perhaps there is another dispensa that clearly contradicts the info on Mayorga/Chavez Carlos and the de Leon/de Santiago ones (other than the bunch that have "Maria" de Chavez instead of Clara as daughter of Isabel?

Rosalinda and I have been looking through all the dispensas of the descendants of this bunch, making notes and

Comment

like i said earlier, the 1770's dispensation most likely mistakenly assumed clara and jose were siblings but were actually first cousins. i can came to that conclusion based on both those records and other dispsantions listing maria clara's dad and juan jose chavez y banuelos and linking her as a sister of josefa chavez.
First i'll share the link to the dispensation that refers to clara as maria clara chavez https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-897B-B45W?i=91&cc=1937…

Thank you so much for these links, Katy. Also, a shout out to Erlinda who has been directing us to many others.

Rosalinda and I are looking through these and all the rest of the related dispensas, many for the second or third time over, and we are working together on a document that contains all the links, trunks and other relevant information of each one of them. We currently have an alternate theory which we will explain if we believe all these documents confirm it, but either way, we will soon post all the info on this thread.

Comment

So I am back to looking through the dispensas of the descendants of the de la Torre sisters. It's clear that Maria, Antonia, Francisca, Andrea and Magdalena are siblings because they are documented together on multiple trunks of all the dispensas that Erlinda shared. My question is about the Orta/Barragan dispensa that Katy posted: is there another document that would either link Maria or Antonia or Francisca or Andrea or Magdalena with Augustina de la Torre, the mother of Felipe Santiago Orta? Because from what I can gather, this dispensa is the only one that links Juan de la Torre (husband of Clara Chavez) to Juan del Campo de la Torre and Angela Velasco Moxica. Thing is, the Maria de la Torre mentioned in that Orta/Barragan dispensa is not the daughter of Juan de la Torre and Clara Chavez and wife of Felipe Quezada, but is the daughter of Sebastian de la Torre and the wife of Pablo Barragán...
Please somebody tell me I am simply missing a piece of the puzzle and not that Augustina

Comment

I think clara's full name was Maria Clara de chavez y banuelos. there are several dispensations indicating that her parents are juan jose chavez y banuelos and isabel soto almeida. some dispensations call her maria, others call her clara. but i recall coming accross one record that called her maria clara chavez(can't remember which one, i haven't inputted all records related to her yet on wikitree. also the maria de la torre mentioned in orta/barragan dispensation is a cousin of our ancestor maria de la torre

Hey Erlinda, hey Katy. Thank you both for replying.

Erlinda: sorry, I meant Santiago de Orta. Not Sebastian. The one in the last dispensa you posted in your more recent message.
Felipe Santiago de Orta, son of Augustina de la Torre and Andres de Orta y Cuellar who first married his cousin Andrea Miranda (there’s also a dispensa), then Juana Carlos and then Antonia Barragán.

Btw, before I forget: the marriage date of our Juan de la Torre Valdés and Clara de Chávez is 10 feb 1684 (found on Arturo Ramos’ Tlaltenango book thanks to Rosalinda and Nefi A.).

I guess I am trying to confirm without any doubt that Augustina, Mathiana and Diego are indeed siblings of Maria, Andrea, Antonia, Francisca, Magdalena and Agustin. I mean, it makes sense that they are, but Rosalinda and I have not been able to triangúlate dispensas between the two groups of siblings yet.

What is a good sign, I guess, is that both Augustina and Maria both are registered in some documents as de la Torre Valdés

Question?

Did Maria de la torre have a ranch in colotlan with the same name rancho maria de la torre?

I have some madera an ancestors that were there at that ranch during early 1700's

Comment

I don't know, but now that I have it in my radar, I'll let you know if I find anything.

p.s. I should've proofread my post before hitting save/enter. I mean to obviously say that they lived in Colotlan and they both died there in the 1730s. Maria was born around 1691 and died in 1731. Felipe passed away in 1737.

What I find interesting that it seems like they started out in Colotlan (where they had their kid Diego) then went to Huejucar and then moved to Tlaltenango and then settled back in Colotlan. Gertrudis Quezada, their daughter who is my ancestor, was born in Las Bocas around 1709 (she got married to Antonio Enriquez in Colotlan, though). Felipe and Maria had two kids born in Tlaltenango in the 1710s (Domingo and Manuel) and then the rest in Colotlan.

Anselmo,

It turns out that we do have some common ancestors.

I am related to you through Fermin A. Apecechea’s first wife, Maria Gertrudis Justa Flores y Garcia, who is the mother of Manuel Apecechea.

I descend from a third cousin of Maria Gertrudis Justa Flores y Garcia. There are also other common ancestral lines.

*******Felipe de Jesus (#6) is listed as a descendant of María del Rio y Losa and Andrés García de la Cadena and the Felipe Garcia de Cadena that is married to Bernardina Tello de Orozco is listed as a son of Andres Garcia de la Cadena, so it is highly likely that the two Felipe’s are the same person and he has two

Dear Anselmo,

I am curious as to your descent from the Apecechea family. Do you descend from Julio Apecechea and Maximiana Tamayo? They had few children as they both passed away at a relatively young age. Julio Apecechea was only forty years old when he passed away and his record identifies him as a widower.

I am related through Santiago Apecechea & Cirila Perez. Julio Apecechea is his son but I believe his mother was Dionosia Pineda Both La Yesca & Hostotipaquillo were known for their mines.

I am interested because the name is so unique & easily researchable. What is yours?

Anselmo,

I do not descend from the Apecechea family, but like you, I did find the name to be an interesting one to research. You called it “easily researchable” yet I think that what made this research easier was the collaboration. You found two key pieces that uncovered two different puzzles. The first piece that you found was Matias Apecechea’s third marriage that named his father. In all the other records, only his mother is named and he is called “hijo natural”. The second important puzzle piece that you found was that Fermin had also come over to Mexico as I only had his brother coming over. Since Fermin died in Spain, I had previously assumed that he had lived there all his life. Once you found that Fermin had come to Mexico, I was able to research his family here in Mexico and discover that his son Manuel was the “Manuel”we were looking for as father of Matias Apecechea.

There are still a few unanswered questions though. We already know that Fermin and Matias had

Hello Rick,

I am back. I went to Hosto & La Yesca. i asked around for the Apecechea family, but no one had heard that name in Hosto. There was a Chinese company doing some mining a couple of years ago but I have not heard of any recent minings. I know there was talk of mining in La Yesca but nothing has come of it.
Here is my connection to the Apecechea family:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-3X98-HP?i=601&wc=M647-…

This would make Santiago my 3x great grandfather. He had various wives. Including Cirila Perez, he also married Severiana Miramontes, Gertrudes Ledesma & Dionicia Pineda. For Matias, i have records for (A)polonia Gonzalez, Isidora Ruelas, Maria Isidora Ledesma (same as Ruelas?), & Josefa Haro.
Matias had other children including Justo Apecechea Gonzalez & Dominga Apecechea Ruelas. There was one other but she died 5 days later.

Would it be possible to send the link confirming Manuel is Fermin's son. I

Fermin Antonio Apecechea returned to Spain in 1822. He passed away on 17/June/1834 in Cadiz, Andalucia, Spain. There is a street named after him, “Calle Fermin Antonio Apecechea” in Goizueta.

Fermin Antonio Apecechea returned to his beloved Spain. He was famous for many reasons, his work in mines, his government posts, the honors bestowed on him and his philanthropy for the provision of music education to children.

Pascual Ygnacio Eugenio Apecechea and Fermin Antonio Apecechea have a sister named “María Feliciana Romana Apecechea Flores Correa”.

María Feliciana Romana Apecechea Flores Correa is an ancestor of:

María del Rosario Jiménez Ruiz,VI Marquesa de Santa Rosa De Lima. She was born in 1989 in Madrid. Maria del Rosario was named after her maternal grandmother who was married to a “ Magistrado del Tribunal Supremo Español.” María del Rosario’s parents were first cousins, both of them descendants of Maria Feliciana Romana Apecechea Flores Correa.

I believe that Santiago Apecechea was born in Nayarit, and not in Zacatecas. His parents lived in Nayarit at the time of his birth. It is possible that his father may have been born in Zacatecas, The “Apecechea” had arrived from Spain the century before from Spain. The Apecechea first arrived in Mexico City in the 1700’s. From Mexico City, the family branched out to Guanajuato and other areas, like Nayarit.
Santiago Apecechea married almost immediately after his first wife’s death, which I found surprising.

Apecechea

Saludos,

Here is some more information on the roots of the Apecechea family.

Pascual Ygnacio Eugenio Apecechea was baptized on 2/July/1751 in Goizueta Navarra Spain.

His parents are Ygnacio Apecechea and María Josepha de Arrieta

His paternal grandparents are Pedro Apecechea and Ana María de Echenique.

His maternal grandparents are Pedro de Arrieta and Emerenciana Juantorena.

Pascual Ygnacio Eugenio Apecechea crossed the Atlantic Ocean and brought the Apecechea surname to Mexico. Since this surname came over after mid eighteenth century, the surname is not as common in Mexico as are other surnames.

You will find that the names Ygnacio, Pedro, and Pascual are common names in the Apecechea family tree in Mexico.

Because of the time frame, Matias Apecechea is a close descendant of Pascual Ygnacio Eugenio Apecechea de Arrieta. Matias could be his grandson or great-grandson. Son would be a tight fit, possible, but unlikely. Since Matias is a “hijo natural” we may not

Rick,

i don't know if you have an interest in the Apecechea family. I found this UNAM paper on Pascual, and I found out his brother, Fermín, also settled in Zacatecas, México.

Just FYI,

Anselmo

Great work Anselmo,

I had not known that Fermin had also come to Mexico. That was the missing piece in this puzzle.

Manuel Apecechea is the son of Fermin Jose Apecechea, and nephew of Pascual Ignacio Eugenio Apecechea.

Matias Apecechea and Isidora Ruelas are the parents of Santiago Apecechea. Santiago was approximately 51 years old according to his death record in 6/Apr/1892.

Matias and Isidora were married on 8/March/1833. Matias was previously married to Polonia Gonzalez. Matias Apecechea is “hijo natural” de Francisca Murillo.

There was a VillaNueva in what is now “Los Altos de Jalisco.”

Ignacio Apecechea was originally from Goizueta, Navarrra España before he came to Nueva Galicia. It will be difficult, though not impossible, to connect Matias Apecechea to Ygnacio Apecechea because Matias was a “hijo natural.”. Ygnacio is most likely his grandfather or great grandfather.

Great Find Anselmo! Great that you found Matias’s third marriage. In Matias’s first two marriages, his father, Manuel Apecechea, is not named.

Because of the dates involved, it does seem likely that Manuel Apecechea is the son of Pascual Ygnacio Eugenio Apecechea de Arrieta. But I say likely, as Pascual Ygnacio Eugenio could have had a child as a young teenager, and that child could also have had a child as a young teenager, and then Manuel himself fathering Matias at a young age. which would make Manuel a grand child. But I am just stating a slight possibility, as it is most likely that Manuel is his son. You were very lucky to find the name of Matias’s father since only his mother was named in the records of his first two marriages where he is described as being illegitimate. Hopefully some of that luck will carry over and we find a record showing Manuel’s descent from Pascual Ygnacio Eugenio Apecechea de Arrieta. I do have more information on the ancestry of Pascual

Hello Anna,

I believe that I may have found Otilia Cedillo’s family. However, I need more information to verify that they are the same person. Was your Otilia Cedillo born in 1910? Do you have any other information that will help identify her?

Please add information on Otilia’s children so that I can compare the information with what I have found.

A key piece of information that will help identify which Otilia Cepeda is your great grandmother is to know the birthdate of your grandmother, Irene Jenny Aguilar Lopez.

Thanks, Rick A. Ricci
