Information

Hello Marge,

We are primas my descened comes from Juana Maria Chavez married to
Luis Silva in 1738 she was the daugther of Francisco Chavez-Clara de
Los Reyes.
I don't have a copy for Pedro Chavez Banuelos and Agueda Olague
marriage but I can tell you where I found that information.
Go to Heraldica y Genealogia Cabral Valdes he has a big web site on
many names from Jerez and Monte Escovedo beware that there are some
errors. When you get to the site enter
1 click on appellidos
2 click on the letter B
3 click on Banuelos
4 click on Indice de Nombres
5 scroll down to Pedro Chavez y Banuelos
6 click on Notas

You will find the information for Pedro and Agueda's marriage.
It states that there was a despenesa for this marriage in the 3rd
with 4th grado. I have the Sagrada Mitra book and it is not in there.
I did write to Mr. Cabral several months ago to see how I could
obtain a copy but he never got back to me.

Ranchos Neighbors

Hello Sally,

Being a Ranchos member I thought I would chime in. We are not related but we are neighbors. I live in San Jose which is not very far from Hollister. Maybe we can meet up one of these days and share research tips or just get to know each other.

You won't find my data on-line yet as I seriously began my research this last March on my trip to Salt Lake. In addition to my direct line research I am also doing a lot of lateral research. A couple of weeks ago I asked the group about lateral research which is what I have been doing for these last few months. It took me a while to figure out why that was so important to me and not so important to most of those in the group.

Most people in Ranchos were not born in Mexico as I was. Mostly they are descendants of Mexico but don't know many of their relations. I was born in Mexico and I do know many many living family members, the trouble is that I don't quite know how we are related, I just keep hearing that this is a relative and this is a family member but I can't make the direct connection. My desire is not only to make the connection with those who came before us but with those who are amongst the living. I also belong to a group called Los Caxcanes de Zacatecas or Club Zacatecano. Many of these members actually live in Hollister and surrounding towns and cities including San Jose where I have lived since I was 2½.

I would love to meet up with you if you ever have the chance or the desire to do so.

Sinceramente,

Alicia Avelar de Carrillo

Sally, you're NOT going to believe this but I am looking right at a copy of a 1695 christening record of one of their kids (Teresa de Chaves). Agueda Olague was the daughter of Juana de la Torre and Miguel Olague, which I found at the familysearch.org--however, I'm not descended from Teresa, I'm directly descended from Agueda's and Pedro's son Francisco, who married Clara de los Reyes. (don't know when, had to be before 1726). Their daughter, Phelipa Gertrudis de Chaves(z) married her second cousin Cristobal Villavicencio (b. about 1732 in Jerez) at Los Chaves. Their apparent only child, Juliana del Carmen Villavicencio (isn't that a beautiful name?) was born in 1758 in Las Tetillas, Jerez.

Where did you get Agueda and Pedro's marriage info? I would love to get a copy. Marge:)

Dear Marge,
When I first came upon ranchos yahoo groups I
read every message over a period of time. I remember your name and
thought we could possibly make a connection. I never connected the
Colmenero's from Jerez to my grandmothers Colmenero's In Teocaltiche.
I havn't seen to many files from the members yet. I do have a Pedro
Chavez Banuelos married to Agueda Olague Del Rio Etulain on 8 Dec 1681
and thier parents. My Zuniga married an Aro in 1793.

Podcast Interview Help

hmmm, I'm always wanting the best I can get. I'm not fluent in my
Spanish and believe that my stammering will distract from the quality
content that this interview can expose. I realize el Señor Gonzalez
Lopez is directing us to some other significant persons to interview
and possibly to interviewing someone in Public Relations at the AGN,
but he also seems to be quite knowledgeable and would be a good place
to start for an interview to get a researchers perspective.

I guess I'm wondering if anyone in Ranchos would like the first
opportunity to interview el Señor Gonzalez Lopez. . .yes I know this is
my project and I'm certainly not wanting to put any pressure on any of
you, but just in case someone might see the value of some inside
information, well who knows maybe someone might step forward. If I
can't find someone here or another couple of places I'll do it myself,
but I know that it could be done much better by someone that is much
more fluent than I.

If anyone is interested in this please contact me and we'll start
working toward how to get a short interview with el Señor Gonzalez
Lopez accomplished.

thanks,

joseph

Prima, wow. I'm not sure we'd have to check but there is a fair chance
that we are related via out Bañuelos lines. We'll see. Don't let this
get you off track though because I remember you said you wanted to
concentrate on your paternal grandmother's side first. With regard to
this side I'd be very surprised if you are not a Prima to several in

introduction

Dear Sally,

Welcome! An ancestor of mine had a sister who married a Colmenero. I have Gonzalez, Ortiz, de la Torre, Chavez, and Olague in my family tree. I am descended from a Zuniga and an Haro, too. My Saldivars married into the Colmeneros and the Colmeneros married into the Berumen and Carlos families. They, in turn, married into the Banuelos. These are all Jerezanos. Marge V.:)

Oral History

if anyone in the group wants to submit a short audio clip of some of
their families oral history for my podcast please send it to. I'm not
wanting just conversations but right to the point accounts of what
happened:

Joseph Puentes

PO Box 12123

Durham, NC 27709

the submissions should be in digital format but if they must I can
handle an audio cassette and no more than about 20-30 minutes long. the
following is for interviews if you are doing it over the phone, but
some would apply to a live recording:

hints---

1) if you are using a tape recorder you will get a better recording if
you use batteries rather than plug into the electricity which creates
additional background noise. But if you can find someone with a digital
recorder even if its just as a loan for a day that would be great. Let
me know about which type you will use because you will then need to
take it to your local electronics store: Frys, Radio Shack, other to
find the best way of hooking into your phone line for a recording.

2) try to set things up for success and pick a spot that will give you
privacy and as much background quiet as possible

3) give a copy of your ahead of
time so they can be reviewed. You don't have to stick slavishly to the
questions but at least the general direction will be known. Also ask
the question or make the statement: "These is the list of questions I
had in mind, but if you would like to add to or take from the questions
please modify. Your comfort level is my first goal in getting a good
interview."

4) When interviewing or if he is just reading or talking into
the microphone be relaxed but follow this procedure. If a mistake is
made or if he or you feel a certain part could have been better then
just stop and be absolutely silent for

Entierros and the Mexican Mother

My grandmother went thru tough times in Totatiche, Jalisco, including
the Mexican revolution during the early 1900s and then the Cristero
Wars some years later. She used to tell us stories of many of the
hardships she and my grandfather had to endure. As my grandfather was
a professor at the catholic seminary he was considered an enemy of the
state during the Cristero Wars. Several attempts were made to kill
him. We were told that during those times they always had a guard
posted at the top of the church, day and night, whose job was to alert
the town whenever any soldiers were approaching. When that happened
they had to flee and hide in the hills for weeks at a time until the
troops left the town. My grandmother recalled how she had to give
birth in the wilderness while they were hiding and how she lost one of
her children consequently. Another one was lost by drowning in the
river. And some other of her children died by disease and lack of
medicines. Out of 18 births only 12 survived to adult age, but she
always counted by name her 18 children. She lived to the ripe age of
102. May God bless her!

Films on permanent loan.

Joseph,

Its me again!!! I am dropping you a quick line to
APOLOGIZE again............;( !!!

After I sent my info to you, I read your email that
said not to include live relatives. Please ignore the names after Seferina
Robles. We are still living. Also, I missed the boat  about how to
list  names. In the emails I have received I keep seeing these sites I am
not familiar with. Boy do I feel dumb!!! I am not sure how to see info on others
. Is there somewhere on the site where info is listed and are we allowed to
contact them?

HOPE

Entierros

I just looked at my first informacion matrimonial film recently and
there is a wealth of information in those... a bit of a waste of
paper and ink, since a lot of it is the declarations of the husband
and wife to be, which are obviously dictated by the priest and then
the witnesses who attest to the verbatim same thing about the non-
consanguinity, single state of the couple, etc. However, if the
marriage record does not list parents, the informacion most
definitely will... because of the consnguinity issue.

My problem with Marcos LEMUS and Maria Barbara YBARRA is that I
cannot find their marriage record at all. I don't even know what
parrish they were married in. Almost definitely not in Colotlan,
where I would expect, because I have gone through the entire IGI
extract for the relevant film and there is nothing that remotely
approaches their names... a few Marcos with no last name but not
married to any Marias or Barbaras.

There also appears to be no baptismal record for Marcos in Colotlan.
I suspect Marcos may have been born and married married somewhere far
from Totatiche.

There are not really any YBARRAs in Totatiche and the LEMUS family
seems to disappear from Totatiche sometime in the mid-18th Century,
which makes me think that they migrated back out of the region, and
perhaps Marcos went back with his wife since the family had land
there... the question is FROM WHERE?

I know that his probable grandfather who was granted the land where
Marcos raised his children, including my gggggranfdfather (Felipe
LEMUS) was from Puebla and that there are tons of LEMUS in Guanajuato
around the relevant time... Any ideas/leads?

yes good point you just never know what you're going to find. I've
received films that didn't have what they were suppose to have on them,
but that is the rare exception at least with the films I've looked at.
