Hispanic Conference in Salt Lake City

Hi
Alicia!

The info you describe
below is incorrect......Mickey Garcia was a speaker two years ago at this
conference and that is when Mimi Lozano received her award.  Mickey will
not be a speaker this year.....in fact, Mickey and I will be in Salt Lake City
doing research in September.....  Hopefully, next year we will make it for
the conference.  I do know one thing, you have to make reservations WAY
AHEAD in order to get a room, especially if you want to stay at the hotel right
next to the FHC library, the Best Western Plaza.

Hey.....I just had a
thought.!!!....Why don't we (Ranchos members and any other interested parties)
think about going to Salt Lake City NEXT YEAR for the conference?
When Mickey and I went two years ago it was great!  Our friend, Ruth Gomez
Schirmacher, the Librarian and Latin American Consultant in the International
Reference Dept., was our contact and made the speaker arrangements with Mickey
that year.....I went along and carried Mickey's luggage!  :-)
If we plan a year ahead it could certainly be worked out.  I know of two
hotels nearby and have a good rapport with the people there.  Of course,
everyone would have to make their own reservations, etc. but we could all be
there at the same time and do a lot of good net - working!  We met some
great folks when we were there!    Joseph.....what do you
think?

Jonathan,

I went on-line to see what this conference was about and it looks like it's open to the general public and it appears that one of the members of Ranchos will be a speaker, Mickey Garcia if I'm not mistaken.

I am considering attending this conference along with my sister in October. Thanks for this very valuable information. The only disadvantage to most is that most of the conference will be in spanish but what a great opportunity to meet up with hispanic historians and genealogists. Mimo Lozano will be a recipient of one of the awards so this is also an opportunity to meet her. If you want more information here's the URL to the website. www.legadolatino.org.

you may consider, regarding the name "benito ramos" than it could be a

well I don't know, but you can listen to them directly off the internet
by just clicking on the URL that says "Right Click here to Download."
Instead of downloading just "left" click on it and it will start
playing. See option #3 at http://NuestrosRanchos.net

Joseph,

If you are getting into the Interviews, may I suggest you get in
touch, with someone from the "Legado Latino", in Utah. They will be
having their 8th annual Hispanic Genealogy Conference at the Family
History Library, in Salt Lake on October 15th. Maybe you could
arrange to get some of their classes or lectures, recorded and
broadcast them.

well I only have the Mimi Lozano interview done now, actually just last  night I finished the intro and out-tro for that interview so the beginning and end of those interviews will be different that what you all heard.

I have Gary Felix and Rosalinda Ruiz (yes one of your very own Rancherita's) scheduled for next.

I've yet to send out an invitation to John Schmal and Granville Hough (soon)

I'd love to also have George Ryskamp and Lyman Platt (but this would only be in my dreams I think)

Victor, thanks for the information regarding the genealogical groups in Mexico. I did access it and perused through the messages and will continue to use it as a resource.
