Hola a todos:
Salvador
I am having some trouble reading your posting (my Spanish is very, very poor! and the google translation is also not very good!)
One of the records you are looking for may be as follows
Aguascalientes, Informacion Matrimonial, volume 1676/1710, image 134, 9 Aug 1687.
Pretenso: Salvador Gonzales, son of Luis Gonzales and Catalina de Quiroga
Pretensa: Catalina Ortiz, daughter of Juan Ortiz and Luisa Ruis de Esparza.
I think Juan Ramirez and Juan Ortiz may be the same person, the Catalina Ortiz is the same as Catalina Ramirez.
George Fulton
Pleasanton, CA
Hi George:
Thank you for your answer, I really apreciate it. Sorry about not writing my posts in English, i'll try to write them out also in the language that many of Nuestros Ranchos members speak.
Yes, you're right, all the names are the same, except for Juan Ortiz, but as you said, I do also think he's the same as Juan Ramírez. I'll investigate the new people, hope I can find something. Do you descend from them?
I owe you one.
Sincerely,
Enrique Salvador Agraz
Enrique
You are welcome! Don't apologize about writing in Spanish; I can read a little, and am learning all the time. I often use google translation, but it will sometimes make the translation comical.
My wife descends from the Ruis de Esparza family, but not this particular couple.
I have been making an index of the Aguascalientes matrimonial investigations as part of the research into my wife's family. So when I see a query like yours, I usually check it.
I've posted the first two parts here at NR, under the Files section (Aguascalientes). They are at http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/18014 and go from the beginning to 1720.
George Fulton
Pleasanton, CA
Hi George,
Juan Ortiz and Juan Ramirez are one in the same. I just him as Juan Ramirez-Ortiz married Luisa Ruiz de Esparza, daughter of Pedro Ruiz de Esparza and Juana Lozano on 13 Dec 1666 in Aguascalientes. Juan and Luisa also had two other children I have identified. Isabel Ruiz de Esparza married Antonio de los Reyes on 11 Nov 1681 and Felipa Ramirez Ortiz baptized 25 Mar 1675 both events took place in the Sagrario of Aguascalientes. Thank you for the note on the marriage information for Salvador Gonzalez and Catalina Ramirez-Ortiz, did not have that one. Salvador died on 11 Nov 1710 in Aguascalientes, like you said he was the son of Luis Gonzalez and Catalina Ruiz de Quiroga. Couple of months ago I learned Catalina was daughter of Francisco de Espitia and Francisca Ruiz de Quiroga, my ancestors through their son Bartolome de Espitia.
Daniel Mendez Camino
I’m still trying to prove that these Ramírez Ortiz are related to my Joseph Ramírez who married María Martínez de Alarcon. Also, Isabel Ramírez who married Juan Alonso de los Hinojos. I believe all these “early” Ramírez are related. Juan is the clue, Ramírez and Ortiz are somehow related.
Daniel M.
Daniel,
Do you know if Miguel Alonzo de los Ynojos is descended/related to your Juan
de los Hinojos? Miguel and Philipa de Galarza had children in Teocaltiche,
Jal., in 1711 & 1713, Juana Francisca and Feliciana (my 6ggmo). I'd
appreciate any info/thoughts on the matter that you may have re the Alonzo
de Ynojos(var. Hinojos).
Thanks.
Raquel Ruiz
Daniel and others,
Here is the Ramirez-Ortiz connection. Pedro Ortiz married Catalina Ramirez around 1620 (perhaps in Aguascalientes). Their descendants are listed under either surname in different documents throughout their life, which is a major source of confusion. Pedro and Catalina had at least two children. 1) Felipe (Phelipe) Ortiz (born circa 1623 in Aguascalientes) married in Aguascalientes on April 26 1643 to Josepha de Avila, daughter of Luis de Avila and Clara de Amaia (Anaya), and 2) Juan Ramirez (or Ortiz) married on December 13 1666 to Luisa Ruis de Esparza daughter of Pedro Ruiz de Esparza y Juana Lozano. Juan and Luisa had at least four children: 1) Isabel Ramirez (aka Isabel Ortiz) married in Aguascalientes on November 11 1681 to Antonio de los Reyes, 2) Catalina Ortiz married to Salvador Gonzalez (son of Luis Gonzalez and Catalina Quiroga (Aspitia), 3) Felipa Ortiz (no additional info), and 4) Nicolas Ramirez (or Ortiz) married October 8 1692 in Aguascalientes to
Daniel, George and others,
The proof the Juan Ramirez and Juan Ortiz are the same person can be found in the 'Informacion Matrimonial' of Juan second marriage to Maria Garcia (February 16 1676, Aguascalientes). The name of his parents (Phelipe Ortiz and Josepha de Avila) and his first wife (Luisa Ruiz de Esparza) are listed therein.

Gracias y mucha suerte.

Jose Santos Reynaga b.
Hello, I´m researching ancestors in Zacoalco, too. Check my family file and see if you recognize any surnames.
I don´t have any Reynagas in my family tree, but I can give you some suggestions of what I do when I´m stuck in a similar situation. First, look for all the brothers and sisters of Maria Concepcion Reynaga. Don´t just assume that the names of the parents are spelled or written correctly on your direct ancestor´s baptism. Check what it says on the baptisms of their brothers and sisters. Next, check for the marriages and matrimonial informations for your ancestor Maria Concepcion Reynaga, and once again, for the marriages of her brothers and sisters. Often times, they mention the names of the parents, and if they were alive or dead at that time. Also, sometimes they provide the place of origin. With that you might get an approximate date of death of your ancestors Jose Santos Reynaga and Cristina Frias and you can look for their death certificates. Death certificates often

The conference is in September, and I plan on going (assuming someone checks their email soon!). I was wondering if anyone else from here will be there.
I plan on being there, too. I helped with the conference in So Cal two years ago. It was lots of fun, and I met all sorts of great people!
Rosalinda
What should I bring to the conference? Any other hints for a newbie?
Thanks!
Laura Gonzalez
I usually bring my laptop with my genealogy, so I can compare notes with others. I also bring a small amount of supplies-- notebooks, post-its, etc. Since I live in So Cal, I brought some genealogy books with me, but I won't this time, as I'll have to fly there.
You may want to create some business cards with your contact information to connect with others.
Laura,
I will be there, where do you live? It's a 2 hour drive for me as well but I will be going up the night before the conference. There will be a meet and greet dinner for anyone who wants to meetup the night before. The place and time still to be determined.

nevermind about that marriage dispensation, i figured out how that couple was related, but there's now another one i'm confused about
the couple in question is agustin del castillo and antonia de robles
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-15237-6728-25?cc=1804458&wc=…
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-15237-6255-19?cc=1804458&wc=…
Hello Katy,
I think there were two issues: the first, not requiring a dispensation, is that this couple had been living together for a year (Image 499); the primary issue is that (Image 502) the groom is the son of Francisco de la Torre and Maria Castillo AKA Maria la Grande. As an infant he was adopted and raised by Isabel de la Torre (sister of Francisco). However another brother, not named, is the father of Magdalena de la Torre, who is the mother of the bride.
I like charts:
Antonia Robles
(Bride)
Hope this is helpful!
Deedra Corona
Katy, Some of these dispensations are better than a soap opera.
On Image 505 the groom states that he was raised and treated as a son by Isabel de la Torre. However, the truth is that he is actually the son of an Indio from Santa Maria named: Alonzo. Therefore he has no blood relationship to Antonia Robles.
Deedra Corona
whoa, this marriage dispensation is full drama: questionable paternity, having the authorities come after them etc.
i wonder if this couple was able to get married afterwords, and if they had any children.
anyways magdalena's father is juan de la torre.
They seem to be first cousins once removed: the groom was first cousin of the mother of the bride.
Antonia Robles was the daughter of Juan de Robles & Magdalena de la Torre.
Magdalena de Torres is the daughter of a brother of Francisco de la Torre.
Francisco de la Torre is the father of the groom, Agustín de Castillo.
So, Agustín del Castillo (groom) and Magdalena de Torres (mother of the bride) share paternal grandparents and are first cousins.
They eloped and the authorities were trying to arrest them.

Hola Edgar,
Saludos,
Armando

Thanks for the info. I think our dates on these individuals are off by hundred years or so. Could you verify these dates. I hope I'm not that off.
Thanks

Hello Joe
I´m afraid I don´t have the information you are requesting but instead I´m surprised you have one date that nobody else seem to have, I mean de bautism date of Pedro Ruíz de Haro y Velasco. You see, he is my ancestor and so far I had found some works who state that he was born in Spain around 1590 and no parents. So my big question is: Do you have his parents ? and more importantly: Would you please share those names ?
I thank you in advance and off course I will be more than pleased if there is any way I can help you with some other names like Aceves, González de Hermosillo, Hernández Gamiño and Peredo
I keep searching.........
Has anyone been able to find from which side of the family did Ana Francisca and Maria Gabay got their surname? I have tried to find that surname among Spanish surnames with little success. However, I have found that Gabay or Gabai is a Jewish surname. Further I learned that Gabay is a person that performs duties similar to an usher. Here is a description:
In my family line, unposted so far, I have the name Garibaldi/Garibaldo and found it misspelled as Gabay. Maybe you are having the same issue. Try using Garibaldo/Garibaldi.
Gabai/Gabay/Gabady/Gabadi is a surname that is shared by all of us that descend from Martín Navarro de Gabay and Petronila Moctezuma. They were the parents of Francisca Ana de Gabay and María Gabay. Francisca married Lope Ruíz de Esparza y Eguinoa. María married Pedro Fernández de Váulus. Many of us here at NR descend from Martín Navarro de Gabay.
This thread has always dealt with that family and it has no relation to the surname Garibaldo/Garibaldi. They are completely different lineages. There is even the chance that your ancestors are also Gabay and you mistook that it should be Garibaldo/Garibaldi.

Gabay is an interesting subject, I think Gabay is a city in Spain, notably in Castilla. I dont think Gabay the spaniard family was jewish they were among the nobility of spain who would have never married a jew or non-catholic and the arabs. By luck it is a same word in Yiddish, just like english and spanish have alot of word spelled the same but mean totally different things. Francisca Gabay recieved it from her Father, Martín Navarro de Gabay a hijosdalgo. The surname is compouned forming NAVARRO DE GABAY, try searching NAVARRO. It looks like they didnt have many kids to our knowledge. -Daniel

Gabadi is a proper Euskara (Basque) surname. The meaning of the name is unknown, but, as has already been mentioned, it is believed to indicate an origin in the Basque village of Gabat, in present-day Southern France. Gabay is just a latinization (Spanish) of the original Euskara name. You can find several "famous" Basque persons with the name Gabadi.
In Euskara, gabai means "sea gull," but I don't know if it is ever used as a surname.
Many Euskara names have become standard Spanish names, like Elizalde, for example. Lisardi is another Basque name that you find a lot in Aguascalientes that is frequently misspelt.

Gabat/Gabadi is a small village about 25 miles due East of Bayone, is
Southern France. Very close to the border with Spain.
