Hello Everyone, I came across the Guadalajara Census Project and was wondering if anyone has ever ordered the CD-ROM? If so, is it well worth it? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Occasionally I have had the same problem, but I found that if I went back to the previous page or forward one page then to the page that was blank/black it was then viewable...

I also was experiencing a large gray area at the bottom of a page...again going back to the previous page, or forward to the next corrected that situation.

In check the page that you noted in your posting, it loaded but with a gray area at the bottom of the page, so I went back to the previous page and than to the one you cited and it completely loaded fine.

For me this was happening prior to the new format...At first I thought it was just my computer not loading the page/s fast enough, really don't know why it happens.

Laura,
When it first came out it looked all black and then a scale appeared that tells you that there's a new feature to family search, that with this scale, you can now see the entire page. This is a great feature. See if you can open it and use the scale. Rather than having to use the little hand to move the page around, you can now move the scale to view all of the page in a smaller scale and then by moving the scale, it enlarges the photo on the spot, depending on the +/-.

Thanks for this discovery!

Hey all,
I'm having problems with FamilySearch.org.  Have they changed format or something?  I'm looking up images and all I get are black pages.  I thought it was the new side tool to zoom in/out.  This page, for example, is all black.  So is every other page I go on. https:/

Comentario

Thanks, all.

I tried it again just now and am getting the images. Maybe the site was slow last night, or my connection was funky. Weird.

Juanita,

I have taken a look at the research that you have done on your family, especially on the Valdez-Sandate marriage. Instead of looking in Cerdo, San Luis Potosi look in Mexquitic de Carmona, San Luis Potosi. Here is a link to their marriage record: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1942-20473-6640-16?cc=1860864&…

From that marriage record I have been able to identify her christening date, siblings, parents and her grandparents. I have only been able to identify them, I haven't been able to look at the records yet. If you would like, I can send you a list of the people and the dates to research.

thanks,

Comentario

Jonathan,

Oh wow, this was fast. Thank you so much! I've looked at the link and am having a hard time making out the writing. My Spanish is minimal. I did take Spanish in school and that allows me to figure out words here and there, but it takes me awhile. I'm not familiar with Mexico and the states so I have been doing some reading and research to help me better identify where my ancestors lived. My research has given me a great deal of respect for the hardships that my ancestors endured. I appreciate you looking at my research and I would really appreciate a list of the names so that I might research them.

Thank you,

Hellow and thank you Raul,

I had actually found the name, but had not been able to find any evidence that Conseulo was their child. I knew all of my great aunts and did not know Conseulo. I had been looking for a death certificate to match and missed the obvious of looking for a birth registration. The census report I did stumble onto last month. But from the this record I see that we have been looking for my great grand mother in the wrong place. Thank you so much. This is extremely helpful. Everyone has been so helpful and I'm so grateful that I found this site.

Thank you,

Comentario

Johathan,

I found the list of names, christening dates of Sandate sibilings, grandparents etc. I also found a marriage record for Matena's parents, but after looking at the marriage records for that I year I think their might be an error in the date. I'm going to try a different year today. I am having trouble reading and understanding Pedro's parents names. If you could help me with that I'd appreciate it. After reviewing the record you posted I have a awful feeling that I've been researching the wrong Pedro, but I'm grateful that I'm the right path.
Also, since I'm new here, I want to make sure I'm posting in the right forum.
Thank you so much for your help.

Mario, in the films of monte Escobedo there are some people with the lastname Berumes maybe Berumen thata married with Sanchez-Castellanos. I recomend to search in Monte Escobedo because is a key that many people did not do it. Monte Escobedo was a town with many last names of Jerez and Tlaltenango, Berumes,Martinez de Barragan, Sanchez-Castellanos, Escobedo, Marquez de los Olivos,De la Torre, Carrillo, Felix de Arellano, Ulloa, Soto, del Real, Ruiz de Esquivel, Renteria, Gamboa, Bermudes de Castro, Casas, etc.

I am waiting the films of Colotlan that will be the other lost key to complete the search.

If you want to share information with Sanchez-Castellanos, write me by e-mail

With regards to who subscribes it can be anyone with roots in Jalisco,

obtaining a birth certificate at reasonable fee

How could I obtain the birth certificate of my father, born in Sombrerete, Zac. and baptized at the parroquia de San Juan Bautista?

Comentarios

Comentario

Hi,

In my own opinion, $200 USD is too much. The actual birth certificate should cost anywhere between $20-30 USD plus "person's time" & mailing cost.

The ideal scenario, would be if you had relatives in Sombrete and if they could do the process of requesting the Birth Certificate for your Father and then mail it to you. This is what my relatives have done when they need orginal Mexican birth certificates.

Your other option would be seeking advise or guidance at your local Mexican Consulate, they should be able to help you out.

To navigate there, rather than a direct link: go to https://www.familysearch.org/. Then scroll down to the "Mexico" link; this next page is in a somewhat adhoc/alphabetical order, so look through it carefully - the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 23rd links in the list are searchable records that have been transcribed by LDS for Census (1930), deaths, baptisms, and marriages respectively. There are SOME transcribed records for Aguascalientes in these searchable links. There are other links by state/territory as well, but Aguascalientes in not in the list.

The 7th link is "Mexico, Catholic Church Records" - these are scanned images of church record books - they contain far more than the searchable links above. If you click this link, you'll see a "Browse through 16,596,760 images" link. Click this link, then click on "Aguascalientes" (the state), then on "Aguascalientes" (the township/county). Then you'll see a list of church names or civil repositories. Click on the one you want, and now you can

Thanks to your informational site, I believe what I need from familytree DNA is the YDNA 37 -mt DNA Plus.  It goes for 299.00, however, if you participate in one of their projects, you're given a slight discount for 269.00.  I assume you receive the same info for 269. as for 299.
If anyone has done this, it would be great to read about your level of satisfaction.  Thanks so much.  Alice

Below is a brief article that may explain the Scottish, Irish, English showing up in your DNA

Irish origin myths confirmed by modern scientific evidence
One of the oldest texts composed in Ireland is the Leabhar Gabhla, the Book of Invasions. It tells a semi-mythical history of the waves of people who settled in Ireland in earliest time. It says the first settlers to arrive in Ireland were a small dark race called the Fir Bolg, followed by a magical super-race called the Tuatha de Danaan (the people of the goddess Dana).

Most interestingly, the book says that the group which then came to Ireland and fully established itself as rulers of the island were the Milesians - the sons of Mil, the soldier from Spain. Modern DNA research has actually confirmed that the Irish are close genetic relatives of the people of northern Spain.

While it might seem strange that Ireland was populated from Spain rather than Britain or France, it is worth remembering that in ancient times the sea was one

The DNA that is in common between the Spanish and the Irish is R1b Y-DNA. This DNA is the most common throughout Western Europe and not just Ireland and Spain. Rolando tested positive for R1b1a2 shorthand R-M269 which from Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haplogroup_R1b_%28Y-DNA%29#R1b1a2_.28R-M26… "The frequency is about 71% in Scotland, 70% in Spain and 60% in France. In south-eastern England the frequency of this clade is about 70%; in parts of the rest of north and western England, Spain, Portugal, Wales and Ireland, it is as high as 90%; and in parts of north-western Ireland it reaches 98%. It is also found in North Africa, where its frequency surpasses 10% in some parts of Algeria.[29]

That means a significant number of people from Scotland, Spain, France, England, Portugal, Wales, and Ireland have common ancestry. Based on calculations of mutation rates the common ancestor lived 9,500 years ago. Based on posts by Dienekes at http://dienekes.blogspot.com/ there were

Y-haplogroups J2, and R1 so conspicuously absent from Neolithic Europe down to 5ka (and in the case of J2, completely missing from the record altogether) must have entered Europe at some point. Did they take the fast train into Europe post-5ka, or did they lurk in both Anatolia and Europe pre-5ka? Thanks to the BEAN project we might find out.

The idea that ~5ka something happened in Europe is also supported by the paper:

Despite support for an Anatolian Indo- European origin, we think it unlikely that agriculture serves as the sole driver of language expansion on the continent. The five major Indo-European subfamilies—Celtic, Germanic, Italic, Balto-Slavic, and Indo-Iranian—all emerged as distinct lineages between 4000 and 6000 years ago (Fig. 2 and fig. S1), contemporaneous with a number of later cultural expansions evident in the archaeological record, including the Kurgan expansion (5–7).

I would highly reccomend reading, The Origins of the British, A Genetic Detective Story by Stephen Oppenheimer.
There is a very interesting chapter which discusses the Celts - the Irish, Scots and Welsh - Stephen Oppenheimer's genetic synthesis shows the majority to have arrived via the Atlantic coastal route from Ice Age refuges including the Basque country; with the modern languages we call Celtic arriving later. Oppenhiemer follows individual genes from samples collected from people living in small, long-established towns, whose grandparents had also lived there rather than whole populations. The geographical distribution of individual gene lines is analysed with respect to their position on a gene tree, to reconstruct their origins, dates and routes of movement.

The book is a fairly easy read and his findings are based on archaeology, anthropology and genetic research.
Oppenheimer is with The Bradshaw Foundation based in Geneva.

Comentario

Stephen Oppenheimer wrote his book in 2006. There have been a lot of advances in Y-DNA since then. Also in order to say the Irish were direct descendants of Spaniards or Iberians there would have to be SNPs found only in the two areas or ifalso found in other areas there should be proof that where ever the SNPs were found there is proof that all of these people were directly related. According to what I have read about the book Stephen Oppenheimer does not provide that proof. He only makes assumptions or a hypothesis and not a proven scientific theory.

Also, Stephen Oppenheimer used Y-STR data for his assumption. Dienekes shows us Why Y-STR haplotype clusters are not clades http://dienekes.blogspot.com/2008/10/why-y-str-haplotype-clusters-are-n…

The following document shows the Y-DNA data that Oppenheimer used - http://www.jogg.info/32/campbell.pdf

In it we can see that at the time Oppenheimer wrote his book they used haplogroups descriptors of a maximum of 7 characters. If

Armando, thanks for your assessment, I have been looking for updated information on Oppenheimer's theory, in a form that isn't written for geneticists (which is what attracted me to his studies to begin with.)

Even though I will have to print your message and get my DNA cheat sheet out to figure out what you said, I did get the message that DNA testing has come a long way since Oppenheimer wrote his book and that his theory hasn't held up over the years.

Comentario

Thanks Randy and Armando - Your leads, advice, info have been extremely helpful. The more that I learn the more I realize how much further I need to study. I am going to acquire Oppenheimer's book, even if it is outdated. I am obtaining books on DNA in order to understand the terminology.

I hope to pursue more DNA testing in the future but I am still working on understanding what has already been revealed.

Comentario

Rolando,

Your money would have been better spent on a Deep Clade test. That way you could know where you fall on the on R1b tree and you could also join a project belonging to that subclade.

http://www.eupedia.com/europe/Haplogroup_R1b_Y-DNA.shtml#R1b-subclades

Oppenheimer's book will only cause confusion.

As far as all of the people that you have 12 marker matches with. All that is known by scientists is that there was a change from Neolothic hunter-gatherers to Bronze age farmers about 5,000 years ago and that there is no evidence of R1 prior to 5,000 years ago. Therefore the R1 haplogroups were most likely the ones that took farming and bronze age weapons to all of Western Europe, including Spain, Ireland, Scandinavia, France, Grmany, etc. These are our ancestors and the ancestors of the people you have a match with. A Deep Clade test will narrow the the number people you are related to.

Armando

Comentario

Randy,

You should also get a Y-DNA test from FamilyTreeDNA and then a Deep Clade test so you can see first hand with your own DNA what is going on.

The autosomal DNA tests from Ancestry.com, 23andme, and FamilytreeDNA are very generalized and include naming a certain groups that isn't proven. If they had autosomal DNA from skeletons from every one hundred years going back 5,000 years or more in multiple areas and had autosomal DNA that was specific to a certain area then they could use the naming that they have. But they don't have that. Therefore, it is all conjecture for the names of the nationalities that they use. At least 23andme allows people to see the DNA that is matched with others. If you are going to get an autosomal test they are the best to go with. However, it seems the new Genographic 2.0 test will encompass Y-DNA, mt-DNA and autosomal. I would like to see a comparison of their results against the other testing.

Armando

Comentario

Armando, I am looking at also getting the National Geographic test, because of your past postings on this subject for that very reason.

My main interest in the Basque Celt DNA is I am affraid my results may come back very confusing because of my Celt and Spanish ancestry.

Comentario

Randy, The National Geographic test does seem to be the best for those that haven't done previous testing or for those that have done Y-DNA but not mt-DNA and Autosomal testing. I'd still like to see a comparison of the autosomal results with those of 23andme. However, doing both is very expensive.

Celt and Spanish Y-DNA is actually the same. They share ancestors. What we don't know is who specifically the ancestors were and at what specific time there was a divergence. Only averages can be used but averages aren't definitive. Maybe in time they will find remains of people they can test and it will answer who descends from who.

You are most likely going to be R1b but you'll also want the subclade (Deep Clade) so you know where you fall on the R1b tree - http://www.eupedia.com/europe/Haplogroup_R1b_Y-DNA.shtml#R1b-subclades

Since your living uncle and some male cousins on your mothers side are Reynoso, and are the ones with Y-DNA in Los Altos, you should also see if they are

Comentario

Randy, I don't know if you noticed that I had written in a different thread that the National Geographic Geno 2.0 SNP test will do Deep Ancestry (Haplogroup identification) testing but not STR Y37/Y67/Y111 tests. Therefore, a Y-DNA 37 marker test from FamilytreeDNA is recommended along side the National Genographic Geno 2.0 SNP test. Hopefully you are able to do the Y-DNA STR 37 marker test also.

A Y-DNA 37 marker match will tell you if you are related to another person within about 20 generations, which could be about 500 years.

The National Geographic Geno 2.0 SNP test will tell you which subclade you belong to. Other people in the same subclade could be related to you within about 5,000 years or less. A subclade is downstream of a haplogroup.

Another interesting find that confirms your suspicion that the Pedro Herreras in Rancho de Loera are not your Prudencio Herrera...

There is a Prudencio Herrera, soltero who appears in the census under Rancho de Michaela Ponce, but just squeezed in at the end and the next rancho is none other than Rancho de las Ranas, where there appear two sets of Herrera brothers: Juan Antonio Herrera married to Lugarda de los Santos Orozco and Juan Pedro Herrera; and Luis Florencio Herrera married to Maria Tiburcia Perez de Texeda and Cayetano Valerio.

I am pretty certain that the two sets of brothers are all siblings and they are listed with their grandmother Petra Roldana, viuda. I know that the father of this second set of brothers was Cayetano Marin de Herrera and their mother was Ana Santiago de Llamas.

I know that Petra Roldana was mother of Cayetano Marin de Herrera through a marriage dispensation from Luz Montejano's book. I also know that Juan Pedro Herrera and Cayetano Valerio were

Espanoles definitely does not mean they were born in Spain. It is simply a caste designation... so they were of the second-highest caste (next to peninsular, which would designate someone born in Spain). When someone is born in Spain, they go out of the way to mention it (as that would make them penisular) and state where in Spain they were born ... something like "natural de Madrid en los Reinos de Castilla"

I am still reading that Tlaltenango Marriage film from the 1600s and will keep my eyes open for any other "Marin de Herrera." Perhaps Luis was a brother of Cayetano?

Though Colotlan is in the State of Jalisco for governmental purposes,
its parrish is part of the Diocese of Zacatecas and geographically it
is basically part of Zacatecas as there is no way in or out of the town
without going through Zacatecas.

As far as all of the other documents that you mention, those are all in
custody of the Spanish Ministry of Culture in Spain, thus Samuel
Sanchez's team that is presently in Zacatecas would not really be able
to film those very easily. Those should become available digitally any

Anyone can sign up for an account and they are in the process of
