Members Having Trouble Getting or Sending Messages to the List

There have been a number of members who have recently been "unsubscribed" from the mailing lists or have stopped getting email messages from the list.

One reason we have identified for this is the server being used to send out the listserv messages is a dedicated listserv server that hosts mailing lists for a number of different organizations, not just Nuestros Ranchos. All such messages come stamped with the server name and IP and the server has been put on a "black list" of anti-spam filters.

Of course times have change but in Mejico we still see the Spaniard Mexicans hold the power same here, Im Spanish I can see alot of racisms still in Mejico. In Aguas or Los Altos wherever their is the majority of white people (like Los Altos) they still have this white is good status. We're very conservative in everything. If a someone different other than white were to walk in lets say our hacienda you would want to get out of there, they stare the person down. MY family too only mixed inside with cousins 7 families total to evade the 'bad people' (So I hear.) Daniel,
I hope that you take my comments in the helpful manner in which they are intended. If you are truly concerned about offending people with racist comments, then please stop. It's unsettling that a young person appears to embrace such views and seems to take delight in flaunting them. Certainly, as a member of this group, I honor and appreciate my ancestors--Basque and others, but I won't perpetuate their mistakes. Today, informed and self-confident people throughout the world embrace and celebrate diversity. They don't fear it. Best wishes, Alice B. Blake

Yes, Daniel,

It is unsettling and tiresome, this reiteration of the superiority felt by some "Spaniards". We are left to wonder why you take such delight in repeating it, and I question your self-confidence; but I understand that you are so young and have much to learn yet. We are all aware of racism everywhere, it is unproductive to dwell on it. You have so much to offer at your age, your future is ahead of you; don't get sidetracked with an uninformed obsession that doesn't reflect well on you. You admire royalty and royals have the best manners, and would never point out such differences. I hope you appreciate our well-intended remonstrance. I am much happier embracing diversity, and like Alice says, I don't perpetuate my Mexican Basque father's prejudices. People can't be happy when they are always tense about the color of people around them. Best to look at people's character, than their complexion; one has nothing to do with the other.

Hola, Daniel:

Mexican-American Family Integration

In light of recent discussions on this site about ethnicity in Mexico, here is an interesting article titled "Extended Family Integration Among Euro and Mexican Americans: Ethnicity, Gender, Class" that I thought might be interesting to those of us in the US with Euro and Mexican ancestors. Bienvenido Víctor.

Victor,

I'm kind of reaching with the Dias here. Juana Rosalia Dias in the below record went on to raise a family with her husband in the Colotlan area and I was wondering if possibly they were related to my Dias that came from the Tlaltenango area (Cuculiten). Just curious.

Hi Linda--

I found a record for a Bartola Sipriana de la Torre on familysearch.org. The place and date for this person makes me think that she is the same as the wife of Jacinto Banuelos-- this suspicion is very strong. I have not absolutely proven this, however. I have not yet located the marriage record for Jacinto and Bartola, as it is one of those missing from Jerez. I have tried looking at the films and have never found it; it either was destroyed or has not yet been filmed. Thus, I only have a strong feeling, but considering the uniqueness of the name and the location, I do believe Christobal and Maria to be her parents. I cannot go back any more generations for Jacinto until I find a record of him-- I do know that he and Bartola had children in Jerez, then Tepetongo, and they later lived in Huejucar, but no earlier trace of him has been located. Who Jacinto's parents were continues to be a mystery, although I think he does descend from the larger Banuelos family of

The switching of the H and F is for sure it was common depending what part of Spain you came from, some pronounced the H and F and other parts vice versa (today the H is silent in Modern Castilian. Personally I do think that is him, because of Juana Siordia, its possible he took on Vaulaus as a new surname, it was common back then families often changed their last names to signify a new beginning or house. How many my times my maternal family changed it di Montanara>>>(da Camino di Treviesi) da Camino, de Camino, Gutiérrez del Camino, del Camino, Pérez de Camino>>>Pérez del Camino, now my descendants will take on Méndez del Camino. As you said, it is not unusual to find the surname "Fernandez" written "Hernandez", like "fierro" and "hierro", "foja" and "hoja" etc. Siordia is NOT a common name, so the possibility of having a Pedro Hernandez, the son of Pedro Hernandez and Juana de Siordia, sail from Spain in 1566 and marry Maria Gabai ca.1580 is good. It fits the timeline. Furthermore, the fact that he named his three daughters Maria, like his wife, Petrona, like his mother-in-law (Petronila de Moctezuma) and Juana, like his own mother, makes sense. Juana was better known as Joana de Siordia. She first married Bernardo Salado, a descendant of Joanes de Salado, Escribano de la Real Audiencia de Guadalajara (I believe he was his son) and when he died she married Francisco Rodriguez Ponce in San Juan de los Lagos. I'm glad you found this important bit of information. I will check other documents and let you know if I find a discrepancy.

Hello Patricia--
I was wondering if it is possible to send me the index to me about the Book on Heráldica y Blasones Apellidos? If it is too much! Mostly interested on the Camino, my mother's family were and still are in the nobility in Santander and northern España. (Might be listed as Pérez de, del, CAmino or simply as del Camino.)

To Patricia Burton:

Would you be willing to look up Juan Fernandez de Padilla? The initial
information I found listed him as son of Pero Lopez de Padilla (el viejo)
married to Juana Garcia de Ayala

However, I later found info that listed this Juan Fernandez as married to
Alondra Ponce de Leon.....And possibly his grandson (same name) married to
Juana Garcia de Ayala.

I don't know how much info this book actually has on the Padilla line -
thought it might help me straighten this out.

Thanks,
-Angelina-

I am familiar with the Ayalas who were in the lower nobility but still prominant with the Poncé and Velasco families in the 12-14 centuries. -Daniel Méndez del Camino

Daniel you mentioned that you are familiar with the Ayalas in the 12-14
centuries.....do you know anything about a Juana Garcia de Ayala that
married Juan Fernandez de Padilla? They were the parents of Gutierre de
Padilla who married Leonor de Aguilar.

Tepusco, Tepuxco

for Veronica Rahorn:

The word Tepusco seems to signify copper. The book "Nombres indigenas de todas las ciudades y municipios de la republica mexicana" by Gral. Gabriel Gavira, Mexico, 1953, has the following:

Bañuelos

Hi Anita--

I've been working on an extensive Banuelos family tree from Ranchos Las Bocas, located close to Huejucar (not too far from Tepetongo and Juanchorrey). I did not locate the names you mentioned in my tree, but I suspect that your Banuelos branch is related to mine.

Dear Rosalinda: Yes, it appears that this one is my tree. On Marcelo Gonzalez Banuelos christening record, maternal grandparents are shown as Cleto Banuelos and Clemencia Carlos. Their only child I have found is Maria de Jesus Banuelos (her last name was misspelled as Barriento). So do our lines cross and if so, where? Thanks for answering. Anita

Well, the record I sent you apparently is for a son of Cleto and Clemencia, German. He may have died when he was young, and he appears to be the brother of Maria de Jesus. If you are able to look at Gemrna's baptismal record, it may identify Cleto's and Clemencia's parents's names. Then we can use those names to see how/if we are connected. I have a sneaky suspicion that our Banuelos lines do cross, but we will need Cleto's parents names to help us.

Dear Rosalinda:
A good friend was able to view the film and this is what she found:
--- German Banuelos 29 May 1851 Tepetongo
film #0445161 de dos dias de nacido en Juanchorrey hijo legitimo de
Cleto Banuelos y Clemencia Carlos abulos paternos Paulino Banuelos y Josefa Gonzales maternos Sostenes Carlos y Rafaela Sanchez padrinos Juan Gonzales y Rosa {Acuna.} not to sure on that surname.

So with this information, where do we stand? Anita

Comentario

Hi Anita--

I apologize for the delay in my response--

I was unable to trace that Banuelos couple in my tree, but I still suspect they are connected to my family in some way-- the time and place of your family coincide with my family. By the way, I did poke around on familysearch.org for the other couple you mentioned, and it looks like you can trace your family back additional generations, especially in the Monte Escobedo area. I have completed extensive research on the Banuelos family in the Huejucar area, and while I have collected many Banuelos from the Tepetongo area, I still need to explore more. The problem is that Paulino and Josefa apparently did not have any other children that could be traced through the fmailysearch.org website, which means a thorough search of the Tepetongo and Jerez records is needed, which is time consuming.

I think we should keep in touch in case our ancestral paths cross, which I think they will.

Dear Rosalinda. Tonight I found Anecleto Vanuelos, father Paulino Vanuelos, mother Maria Josefa Gonsales, spouse Clemencia Sanchez, married 22 Sep 1832 Monte Escobedo, husband age at marriage 25. Batch no M611173, 1799-1877, Source call no 1158237. Clemencia Sanchez, father Sosteros Carlos, mother Rafela Sanchez. Does this help any? Do you have access to the Monte Escobedo films?
