There could be a couple of issues.

One might be the word processor you are using, or perhaps the version.

If you are using the current PC version of Word, after saving the file, press the ¶ button to show the spaces, paragraph marks, and so on. You should then see the control codes for building the index if you are using Word.

Then use the Word command to insert the index. You may have to work with the formatting to make it look nice.

A better way to go would be to use PAF Companion. This does a better job of formatting the reports. You will have to buy this; the PAF and PAF Companion software used to cost about $10 on CD, but I think you can also down load it for the same price.

PAF Companion launches either from within PAF, or can be run separately.

PAF Companion also prints nice charts. I have made charts as large as 3 ft x 3 ft, saved them as pdf files and then had them printed on a large format printer at Kinko and the UPS Store.

PAF and PAF Companion are not as

Hello Emilie,

I am looking for descendants and ancestors of Ricardo Puente - I think
it's Ricardo Obispo de la Puente born about 1783 presumeably in
Zacatecas although one record says Piedras Moradas. He was married to
Simona de la Cruz (Alemán?) who seems to have used several surnames.
Children are some or all of the following: Diego Antonio, Narciso,
Gregoria, Deonicia, Gregorio, Francisco, and Juan Bautista, all born
in various parts of Zacatecas and San Luis Potosí including San
Sebastián Venado SLP, Matancillas Zac, San Miguel Mezquitic SLP, San
Matías Sierra de Pinos Zac, San Gerónimo Moctezuma SLP.

My particular ancestor is Diego Antonio de la Puente. His children
were born in Chorillo Sombrerete Zac, Tecomates Río Verde SLP,
Matancillas, and probably Ojuelos Jalisco. The whole family seems to
be scattered around a lot and I suspect they worked in the mines.

If anyone recognizes any of these names I'd like to hear from you.

Well this looks like the same couple since the location is right but the
date of 1770 makes born in 1783 seem not correct especially since several of
the children you named were born between 1775-1791:

From the ingredients, this appears to be a spanish dish, meaning from Spain. Where did your mother grow up and where was her grandmother from?

Alicia,

I thought the same thing, that this dish is Spanish, probably the southern part of Spain where Arabs are numerous and they cook a lot with oranges (Valencias?) and almonds. I have read that in some parts of Mexico, people brought Moorish-inspired foods to the New World.

My mother and father met and married in San Francisco, CA. They were both
young people arriving with a parent: my mother with her widowed mother when
she was eight in 1920 and my father with my grandfather in 1925 when my
father was sixteen. After having two daughters my father returned in 1940
with the family to his hometown of Tamazula de Gordiano, Jalisco. I was
born there along with my younger sister. It was there that my mother
learned to make Cuachala. I miss my mother's making of this special dish
(we do have her handwritten recipe somewhere). Cuachala has as its main
ingredients (as I remember), gallina, boiled and shredded (she said never a
pollo, always a hen), masa, chili flakes and the rest I do not remember. It
is served in bowls as a thick broth (like atole). She claimed it was a dish
inigenous to Tamazula and the region. I don't know if that part is a fact.
Any other cuachala aficionados?

Were you able to match up the ages of the bride and groom at their marriage? Does it make sense for the year the child was born. In other words, they weren't 80 when the child was born. Sometimes when you have such discrepancies you have to look at other things. You can trust marriage records more than birth because you know the "novios" were there and they gave much more reliable information. Your information was so far off, I wouldn't add it till I had more info to confirm. I think Angelina's advise is right on. I was just about to add an ancestor to my tree today because I thought I already had the parents on my tree. It was a Josefa Mier and Alejo Berumen. I had a Maria Josefa Berumen and Manuel Berumen. I figured he could have been Manuel Alejo Berumen, then I realized they were about 100 years apart. You find this happens often.

Zapvive1,

Keep in mind that a lot of the times the mother was not present during the
baptism since she was still recovering from childbirth and it was considered
a necessity to have the child baptized within days of birth; therefore, it
is common for mistakes to happen with the names of the maternal
grandparents. In this particular case, it looks like the scribe might have
mixed up the maternal grandmother (Gertrudis Garcia de Alba) with the
paternal grandmother (Maria Antonia ...) and came up with a new name (Anna
Maria Garcia de Alba). In any case, I would look for other children from
this marriage and try to resolve the difference in names that way. The other
possibility is that you are dealing with another couple...

Good Luck,
-Angelina-

Comentario

I would also look at the records right before and after, just in case of an
error. Its rare, but twice this year when Indexing I noticed that names
seem to have been "borrowed" from the record before or after, suggesting an
error by the scribe.

Hola, Armando,

Thank you for the information in your post; I was able to follow the links and confirm everything you said, except for the Información Matrimoniál 1693:image198 for the second marriage of Juan Tiscareño to Juana de Orozco, which I did not see on that volume; I do have their marriage, however (film 299422 image 168).

My question now become one of what appears to be two Juan de Tiscareños: the one we are following and the other, baptised 12 de nob 1638 (film 299422 images 69–70), son of Luis de los Reyes and Juana de Vargas (who took the surname Tiscareño about 1654). For now, that is a puzzle to me.

Your proof of the parentage of 'our' Juan de Tiscareño is a good bit of detective work; well-done!

Saludos,
Lawrence

CORRECTION: I did, in fact, find the información matrimonial (image198); in fact, I had already found it but did not realize its importance. Sorry for the confusion!

Comentario

Hola, Lawrence.

As far as my investigation goes I had a lot of help from numerous people. Some was from posts on NR, trees in Geneanet.org, and some from people that don't participate in the previous two.

The other Juan de Tiscareño is talked about in a thread that concerns him specifically. Bill Figueroa identified Juana de Vargas (aka Juana de Tiscareño) as the illegitimate daughter of Luis de Tiscareño. The proof is in the testament in 1675 by Luis de los Reyes transcribed by Bill Figueroa.

http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/17759

What records do you have of Juan de Reyes (alias Juan de Tiscareño) other than his baptism?

Linda, I know this one! The term actually has its roots in equestrian

the case of church record it refers to a mostly "white" or European

Pat,

So far I don't have a connection with Saul Navarro, that is not yet, but I do with Juan Carlos Aguayo Muños. Juan Carlos and I connect with at least 4 lines, Aguayo, Muños, Ruiz, Duran and maybe the Olmos line as well. What's Tino's connection to Juan Carlos Aguayo Muños??

Hi Raquel,

That's great...!!

I'm looking forward to exploring multiple connections with you and other NR members.

I had second thoughts about doing the FamilyFinder (autosomal) testing, but the range relationship and suggested relationship results have lead to new found cousins that are members of NR...Saul Narvarro, Juan Carlos Aguayo Munos

The first of the new year I will post the names of the individuals that appear on Tino's FF

Alicia,

Tino's connection to Juan is via their common ancestors Nicolas Yanes Aguirre y Maria Phelipa Gonzalez.

Hi Raquel and Pat,

Thank you for the information you provided. It has been very helpful to me, but has also raised a very important question, which I'll try to explain in the following paragraphs.

When I added Ma. Florencia Yáñez to my database I could not confirm that Lorenzo de Torres and María González Rodríguez (pretensos) were "second cousins". There is a discrepancy between the dispensa and information included in "Genealogías de Nochistlán..." by José Luis Vázquez Rodríguez, which seems to indicate that Lorenzo de Torres was "second cousin once removed" of María González Rodríguez. The original dispensa is online at https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18427-12933-38?cc=1874591&wc… and the information extracted by María de la Luz Montejano on pg 545, entry 2720, of her book "Sagrada Mitra...". Both of them agree, but notice what María González stated in her declaration:

"habrá quince o dies y seis meses, poco mas o menos, que vino el susodicho (Lorenzo

Hello Bill,

Years ago Deena Ortiz sent a GEDCOM file to me containing all of Tino's Nochistlan ancestors...She had seen a posting that I had done online, and she apparently was researching the same individuals that I was inquiring about.

To answer your question yes, Ma. Florencia Yanez is the daughter of Gonzalo Yanez and Geronima de Benavides according to Deena's research.

I have no other documentation other than what was contained in the GEDCOM from Deena. In checking Deena's NR file I did not see a source noted...

There is a "Capitulo 27," in the Nochistlan book for Lorenzo Yanez y Maia Rodrigues de la Mora. Lorenzo Yanez del Monte married to Maria Rodriguez de la Mora, is the brother of Maria Florencia Yanez, it's possible that there would be more information on their parents Gonzalo Yanez de Monte and Geronima de Benavides. I do not have this book, only the listing of "capitulos."

The earlier marriage records, in some localities, give only the 'essential' facts. That is, just the names of the couple getting married. All the other details are often in the matrimonial investigations.

In Aguascalientes, for example, the marriage records started giving more details in the 1740s. Prior to then, the matrimonial investigations, when they exist, filled in the details; however, many are missing.

The information that was recorded in the sacramental documents changed over time. As I'm sure you've also noticed, and not every community did things the same way. When changes were ordered by the Bishop, it took a while for everyone to start doing things the same way.

Another reason is that the clerk who recorded the marriage may not have had all the information. He recorded what he knew. Ocassionally you may see a blank where a surname should be. Rarely, the given name is missing.

Her name appears as Rosa Maria Moran Hernandez de Rueda. Hernandez de Rueda
and Fernandez de Rueda are the same surname.

Daniel and Paul,
Somehow I missed your post (almost 18 months ago) regarding the Gomez Rendon family of Teocaltiche and Aguascalientes. I also descend from Gertrudis Rendon and Jacinto Navarro, and have been unable to make any progress on that line. Do you have any additional information on this family?

Sincerely
