About not finding Valparaiso Batch numbers, I've also reviewed the 
Jalisco_ZacatecasOPT.pdf files in the ranchos2 section and didn't 
find them.

However in FAMILY HISTORY LIBRARY CATALOG it lists the following:

Occasionally, when bored, I check out Ebay.  Today I noticed that the
Hacienda "La Trinidad", said to be in Zacatecas, was for sale on Ebay
- only $850,000.00.  Anyone have ancestors from this hacienda? (If
this is an unacceptable message for the Ranchos board, please remove
and forgive.)

Joseph,

Use the Resource disk, that I sent you.  go to the geographical index,
look under Jalisco, and click on the 2000 census info.  It is a .pdf
file.  Open the search option, and try a combination of letters, and
see if you find you town.

under "Pueblos on the web." especially look at the link "Numeros
Importantes" there are some Casetas listed. . .I wish I could find a
list of Casetas for other places in our target area. Anyone know of a

yes great idea. . .a lot of the sites have a equivilent to sign a "guest
book" option. Here you can see a variety of people who have visited the
site. Most don't live there now but probably still have relatives that
live there. Also if you start by contacting the ones with the particular
surnames you are researching who knows but you might be contacting a
lost branch of your family.

Thanks Victor for the addition of towns to the lists and the
encouragement to contact our places of origen (at least as far as we know).

Just to let you know that I've added a few more links on the Jalisco 
and Zacatecas folders.  If you haven't browsed by those folders 
lately I suggest you do.  

There are some very good sites and I would encourage everyone to try 
to make some contacts via email if you haven't already done so.  Who 
knows...?  maybe one day you'll have a chance to travel down south 
and visit some of those towns and you'll have somebody waiting for 
you.  Wouldn't that be nice?

Once again a tremendous thank you to Jonathan Walker. Your help is
greatly appreciated.

I can't believe I did it. That tool my wife had is so easy to modify
.pdf files. I deleted most of everything that was not our target area
and added the Batch numbers to the Ranchos2 files area. have a look.
Even with the deletion of most everything else the files are still big
and now we are hanging on the edge of fully using all of our alloted
file space in the Ranchos2 files area. . .hmmm, maybe its time to think
of other options or even possibly make up a Ranchos3 group. These extra
groups are a hazzle but they do provide free space. I wish I was webpage
savy and could get the hang of downloading to a webpage and just adding
a link to the Links area. Anyone out there looking for a challenge?

area of Ranchos2 then you are not subscribed and need to send me an
email asking "How come?" If it lets you go then look at the files and
find the one called "Batch Numbers." Then look for the 3 .pdf files and
you should have all of the batch numbers that are available for Jalisco,
Zacatecas, and Aguascalientes. . .have fun!

thanks to Jonathan we should very soon have the Jalisco and Zacatecas
batch numbers available in the Ranchos2 files area. I had a look at
those files and the reason they couldn't be easily downloaded is because
they are for all of Mexico and huge files. My wife, Figen (she's from
Turkey) has a program that lets you modify .pdf files and I hope to be
working on isolating Jalisco and Zacatecas from the rest of Mexico in
hopes that the resulting file will be able to be downloaded. Let's see.
In the meantime those that made a request of Jonathan to be included in
having the files sent to them might have to wait awhile until I get this
figured out and hopefully downloaded.

My name is Natalie Castro Coleman, and I was
graciously accepted to the ranchos group in late
January.  I live in northern Virginia, near
Washington,DC.  I was born and raised in southern
California (Los Angeles/near Boyle Heights; and
Cucamonga), but have lived in Virginia for over 30
yrs.  My father was born at Hacienda Astillero,
Valparaiso, Zacatecas in 1912.  He came with his
family to the U.S. in 1916.  I have not done any
in-depth research in over 10 yrs., but have decided to
work on this family history - especially for my
grandchildren. If I am doing this correctly (I am not
a computer techie, and can only do the most
rudimentary of tasks) there should a message attached
that explains a little about my family heritage. So I
will close for now - I am happy to join so many
friendly and helpful people.  Take care - have a great

has anyone ever had a look at the Notary records? How about the Land 
and Water Records? If you have can you give an idea of what kind of 
info is found on these films. I'm wondering if there might not be 
some books on the subject of these records. I've got a feeling that 
there might be a wealth of information on a few select individuals 
within these records.
