Could someone please give 'step by step' instructions in English on 
how to find phone numbers on the two web-sites that Jon Walker 
posted.  The English link still is not clear enough for those of us 
that don't have the Spanish skills.  I was surprised to hear that 
someone actually found a phone number.

I would spend your time at SLC in making copies of those records you 
found on the IGI.  If you ONLY go after the extracted documents that 
you know are on the films, you should have no problem getting thru 
the 47 rolls of film you have.  Then any extra time can be used by 
going thru a couple of films slowly.  If your list of documents to 
find is listed by film number, and then date, it goes rather fast 
and you can take 2-3 rolls of film to the film printer room.  As I 
mentioned before, do your homework now in creating that list.  Take 
your clipboards to separate your surnames into your pedigree 
branches.  
Rich and I will be there the end of April thru the first week of 
May.  We also probably will be back the middle of August again.  Our 
grand daughter goes to Weber State in Ogden and yes we look like the 
Beverly Hillbillies carrying her stuff back and forth.  
I would not be surprised if 25% of your films are actually at the 
library.  When you call in your films to order always mention that 
you are coming from out of state and they let you order more than 
the usual five.  Also order five or more films in your husbands 
name.  These films will be on the shelves when you get there.  
We save ordering films for our local library in Auburn (40 miles 
away) for those films that are not extracted and we know there are 
documents we need on them.
Finally a short message I can send thru Ranchos.
We will be in Fremont and the Santa Cruz area for 3 days the 20th of 
February.  We are making tamales in the Santa Cruz mtns.  Rich and I 
would love to meet you.  When are you leaving for SLC?

Just left Salt Lake City yesterday, and whenever I'm in town I stay at the Howard Johnson Express, On N. Temple & 300 West.  It's $40 a night for a queen or king size bed, and about 5-10 walk to the Family History Library.

There are hotels a block or two closer, but if cost is an issue, I'd stay at Howard Johnsons.

There are many reasons why I do the majority of my researh, in Salt
Lake at the Family History Library.

1. You have access, to all the films that the FHL has.  All the films
that your local Family History Centers can order, and also all the films  
that are restricted to Salt Lake only.

2. The films that are off-site (vault), you can always order them into
the library.  There is no charge, to order the films, from the vault.
 It usually take 1 or 2 days, to arrive.  Also, the films then stay in
the Library.  Because technically, all the films that the FHL has should 
be in the Library.  But until a need is shown for the film, it is kept
in the vault.

3. There is help desk, on each floor, where you can ask questions. 
And usually there is someone who can answer your questions.  Also, for
with Mexico research, there is Sister Ruth Schirmacher who is an
Accredited Genealogist, for Mexico on staff.  She can be great help.

4. Also, you have access, to all the books, that are in the FHL.

If any of you are thinking, about going to the FHL.  It can be a trip
well worth, your time, especially if you do your homework before. 

1.  Know what films that you want to look at.  Check the Family
History Library Catalog, for the status of the films.  If they are in
the vault, CALL (801) 240-2334, do not request the films by email. 
The library has a tendency, to check emails only every couple days or
weeks.

2. Make a research plan.

3. Be aware, that you probably, won't have enough time, to accomplish,
everything that you want to.

Also, at BYU, in Provo, they have a Hispanic Collection (it is
rumored, to the biggest hispanic collection, outside of Salt Lake).

The LDS in Westwood is located on Santa Monica
Boulevard at the corner of Manning. Not to far east of
the 405 Freeway and north of the 10 Freeway. I was
told there that it was the second largest in the
country, after the one in Salt Lake City. It has many
films. The most are from the state of Jalisco. I found
several good ones for Tepa and Atotnilco (los Altos),
but I have been ordering some. I got to the point that
I rather take a trip to Salt Lake City before I spend
more to have some sent to L.A. Whoever goes to Salt
Lake City needs to give us the inside scoop for those
of us who want to go in the near future, but are not
certain how soon it will be.

somebody at that FHC is doing some intense research in our target area.
. .if you wouldn't mind maybe put up a notice on the FHC patron
information board about Ranchos. I'm always interested in adding serious
researchers [with an emphasis on serious but no emphasis on whether they
are beginners, journeymen, or advanced] to the group.

let me know if you want me to send you something to put up on the
bulletin board.

ps: General message to the group: its okay to tell people that are
studying in our target area about the group, but make sure they
understand there are two "easy" requirements to be a member that I will

I have never seen them for sale....as a matter of fact as early as the latter part of last year...when I traveled to Mexico.....I had to ask for a phone book.  The hotels in which I stayed did not have phone books in the room.  You wonder why, huh?.......
