The procedure is the same, but instead of selecting Zacatecas --> Nochistlan, you would select Aguascalientes, and proceed in the same manner .

Good job in locating this record... I viewed it but need help in translating the side bar message...something  about a date of 25 Jan 1682...????

OK! why is your name appearing at the beginning of every posting?  Are you starting off by typing in your name in the body before typing your message or is your email software program putting it there automatically ?  Find out what is causing it and get it corrected.

I see you ended your posting with your name... Abram...that's a step in the right direction... LOL

Don't forget what Emilie told you, don't trust the trees that are on Ancestry.com.

Remember, you have to continue to do your own research, otherwise you don't know if what your following on Ancestry is really your line. Don't trust what other people put out there to be your family. Only trust what your findings are based on your own research. You must be willing to do the work yourself and then after that hard work, put it down onto a Gedcom database such as PAF, Legacy, Family Tree or other genealogy software.

Yes, Abram,

I was just about to tell you what Alicia just did. If you have your tree on Ancestry, be sure to make it Private, don't leave it as Public. Also ignore the shaking leaves (the "hints") that their robot Family Tree Maker software gives you. It mostly is just a robot that searches everything everyone puts in and then tries to link you to someone with the same or similar name, when they lived in a different area or different era of time.

I tried the Family Tree Maker software and hated it because it would automatically open up Ancestry. I use the PAF that is free to download from FamilySearch, and I can produce all kinds of descendancy reports, etc from it. You enter data into PAF just like you would in the Ancestry trees.

I do subscribe to Ancestry, but only to look for military, census, and border crossing records, but Family Search also has that information. I don't put my trees online anymore and only share my trees now with someone that proves to me that

Abram,

They are Joaquin Aguirre and Lorensa Corona.

When looking to read a document, read all the other records that surround the one you're looking at and try to familiarize yourself with the letters or the script of that particular scribe. This is always a clue as to how each individual formed his letters.

Hope this helps,

There is no question the record will be found in link provided by Linda.
Whenever there is an IGI listing and it has a film number the record will
be in the volume that pertains to the film number. Additionally, I haven't

The IGI records states the record is found in film 443974

Abram,

I agree with Armando. I have Victorian Ruiz Gonsales married to Maria
Ysabel Albares Duran, but I don't have their marriage record.

Alicia Carrillo, do you have their marriage certificate? Alicia has helped
me with this line and we have since collaborated on this marriage.

I know they were married before 1797 because one of their children, Jose
Maria Aquilino Ruiz Albares was born on Jan 11, 1797. Unfortunately this
babtismal certificate most likely only lists his parents names as
grandparents are listed starting around the middle of 1797 if I'm not
mistake for Nochistlan babtisms.

You can look up the babtismal record up for Josef Manuel Candelario Ruiz
Albares, babtised Feb 24, 1799 which lists his parents and grandparents.

I hope this helps.

Minor correction in my previous statement: Jose Maria Aquilino Ruiz Albares
was BABTIZED on Jan 11, 1797 and after checking, yes his babtismal
certificate only lists his parents. Look up Josef Manuel Caldelario Ruiz
Albares, Feb. 24, 1799, which does include parents in grandparents.

Abram,

Another important note is to notice in this babtismal record is
that Ysabel's last name is listed as Alvares, yet her father is listed as
Macias. This family often interchanged their last name between Macias and
Albares. If you study this family and their children, you will notice that
some were babtised with the Macias last name, yet others with the Albares.
This was one of my road blocks for over a year until I finally figured it
out. Hopefully this helps you down the line sometime.

These are mailing lists, that is why you will always see the [Nuestros Ranchos] appear automatically in the Subject line. In order for the community to see which Nuestros Ranchos message you are replying to, you need to add to that Subject..

Also, if you are responding to Alicia's message, she is not a Sir she is a Ma'am, and a very nice lady that is very helpful to everyone here. "Are you blind" is not the kind of comment I would expect from anyone.

Also, Alicia signs her messages at the end, as I and all the other members do and sometimes you don't---all we see is "aflores" at the top. I had to address you that way since I didn't know who sent the message. With 300 members, it is hard to remember everyone's e-mail addresses and who they belong to.

Abram,

I know you are young, but that should not excuse you on a large forum such as Nuestros Ranchos from learning the proper etiquette. What compelled me to be so abrupt with you was your constant demanding tone and the fact that you never have a subject line. It feels as if you are yelling.

Most people make a couple of requests but you are constantly demanding.  So many wonderful people come to your aid, to help you, George Fulton, Armando, Juan Aguayo, Emilie, Linda and many more.

It's expected that you should do your own research and that by way of doing your own research, you learn more every day. There's value in doing your own work and I think we've all communicated that to you. There's also value in being grateful, if you show gratitude, people will be more inclined to give a lending hand. Many of us help each other, not always on line, quite often off line so as not to clog the forum with a message to everyone if we are being area specific.

We want to help you, we want

Here's the extraction for their marriage. This was extracted before the records were digitized and on-line, therefore does not reflect the image# and page number.

The marriage record is slightly different from what you wrote with a
possibly important difference being that it states José Manuel Ruiz was "de

Alba-res is cut off making it seem as if Alba was the surname for those

whenever they can be looked up they should be looked up.

Thank you Armando for finding my mistakes. Back in 2009, I was still working and the only time I could make my entries was late at night. Many times I'll go back to my records and find my own mistakes, either typos or I couldn't correctly read the record.

Those are the notes I put in the notes section of each record I find and I'm sure there will be many more errors in many other records.

that are not familiar with these records. I was trying to get Abram to get
used to looking up the actual record. Now that the records are online
whenever they can be looked up they should be looked up.

Thank you so much for this help on finding the record and posting it on here i'm never going to trust those people on ancestry.com.I tried looking for the record several times and nothing but thanks again appreciate it alot.

Comment

Exactly, Abram,

I think I already have told you not to trust what you see on Ancestry because the novices using their trolling Family Tree Maker system to create trees on that site makes those novices think that someone has found their ancestors when only the name might be the same or similar. My trees there and on Rootsweb have been corrupted by people using that system to download, change, and then reload them as theirs even when I find they have no relation at all.

Trust only those people on Ancestry that you communicate with IF they share images of their documentation to prove relationships, etc. BE SURE TO MAKE ALL YOUR ANCESTRY TREES "PRIVATE" to prevent pirates from stealing your work.

WHY DON'T MEXICANS HAVE A RACE??

I was wondering why Mexican people don't have a race only ethnicity?

Comments

Comment

This PBS documentary is quite enlightening on the issue of race in Mexico. It focuses on the history of Afro-Mexicans but addresses the issue of the Cosmic race and the political motivations behind having people "forget" their race. This was a deliberate attempt to counter the centuries under Spanish rule where legal rights were granted based on people's castes, which were largely based on race.

http://video.pbs.org/video/1915580662

It is highly unlikely that any Mexican whose family was in Mexico during colonial times does not have African blood somewhere down the line. The number of Africans brought to Mexico was quite large and they intermarried quite early in Mexican colonial history.

You should also take a look at the casta paintings in the Albums section of the site.

Thank you for the link.  I love Prof. Gates' work! Can't wait to see his upcoming "Finding Your Roots" series on PBS March 25th.

aflores: I am wondering why you think "Mexicans" don't have a race, only ethnicity. It has been my experience with Mexican-Americans and newly immigrated Mexicans that they themselves seem to think of "Mexican" as a race. I saw in Mexico that they classify themselves as "gueros" and "morenos", and in the case of a very large African American male tourist there with his family, a little brown-skinned girl said, "Mira los negritos", as if she was viewing something in a zoo.

Now that I have been into genealogy for years and seen the records of my ancestors in Mexico and New Mexico, I see that they were all races: Mulatto, Indio, Espanol, and in New Mexico, the tribe was identified----"Piro, Tigua, Manso, Apache, navajo", etc.

When I am asked to check the boxes, I check off first Hispanic (or Latino) since my folks spoke Spanish, but they did not follow the foods and customs of other Hispanics such as the Puerto Ricans and Cubans. Mexico is next door, many of our current

Comment

Abram,

I put "black" as one of my races because in researching my genealogy, I came across many people in two of my father's lines in Zacatecas who were described as "mulato". Mulato was a Spaniard mixed with a black slave. President Obama is a mulato. His mother was white, his father a black man from Africa. So unless you discover a "mulato" in one of your lines, you don't have to put "black".

We Hispanics or "Mexicans" come in many shades. My husband's lines in Mexico were all described as espanol, and he is often mistaken for an Anglo or gringo, he is very white. I found only one "indio" in his ancestry way back in the early 1700s in Aguascalientes, but his Indian blood is so diluted now. He puts his race down as "caucasian" or white. I am often mistaken for Filipino or Thai or Native American.

The concept of "race" appears to be rather complex, and is often inter-mixed with "ethnicity" and "nationality."

The wikipedia article on Race (Classifications of Humans) appears objective and has some interesting thoughts. To extract two brief segments:

By the 1970s, it had become clear that
(1) most human differences were cultural;
(2) what was not cultural was principally polymorphic – that is to say, found in diverse groups of people at different frequencies;
(3) what was not cultural or polymorphic was principally clinal – that is to say, gradually variable over geography; and
(4) what was left – the component of human diversity that was not cultural, polymorphic, or clinal – was very small.

A consensus consequently developed among anthropologists and geneticists that race as the previous generation had known it – as largely discrete, geographically distinct, gene pools – did not exist.

Another extract, applying specifically to people of Hispanic (or Latino)

Comment

I agree with you that race has no scientific validity. Race is a construct that has been useful to excuse the division of people into classes. It is in this way that a persons natural rights are violated. How could anyone have ever explained slavery in the Americas without the illusion of race?
Through genealogy I have found my ancestors to be from many diverse cultures and I embrace all of them.

So it was a good feeling having found out of 2 new family members on apposite sides of the spectrum that I have yet to meet.Julio de Lomelin was on a short list of mine of potential fathers for Jose Rafael.I would really appreciate if you can tell me how i am able to search the copies of the actual document since they seem to have a lot more information than the simple searches ive done on familysearch.Ive found Julio Lomeli and Marcelas Xauregui's marriage on familysearch but unfortunately does not include any other information other than date and that they were married in Nochistlan.Again thank you Mr. Aguayo for the help.

Congratulations to you Alejandro, for finding a new ancestor and for finding out you're going to be a father. Now all you need to know is how to troll the actual records on Family search, page by page and record by record. While it's very time consuming, it's also very rewarding. It's the best way to find your extended ancestors, not only your direct line ancestors but a way to connect with the extended familia, cousins and the cousins' cousins, etc.

Happy hunting!

Congratulations on new baby.. how exciting.
On researching now that we have the actual records online I've started putting the online page number of each month in my files so if I find something on Family search or shared I can find that month and it makes researching so much easier and less time comsuming that way. There is always that odd ball record in the wrong month or year so it's no fullproof. My records for each year would appear as
1775....
January......page 10
February...page 15 and so on..
just a suggestion for records you may have to go back too

Do like Linda said but first make sure you are in the right volume. The
search shows the marriage is in Source Film Number: 226727 That pertains to
a specific volume. To find out which volume go to
https://www.familysearch.org/#form=catalog&catSearchType=film_number click
on the link you get from that result and do a CTRL-F and search for 226727.
It will show you the name of the volume which is Matrimonios 1762-1779. The
Zacatecas and Aguascalientes church records were one of the first put
online and are in a different location from some of the others which is at
http://goo.gl/Yu0av From there go to the Zacatecas records then the
Nochistlán records and look for the Matrimonios 1762-1779. Since the
marriage you are looking for is 09 Jan 1763 it will be towards the
beggining of the volume so you can jump to say Image 50 and hit enter.
That's 29 de Nov de 1763 so it's too far. Now jump back 10 images to 40.
That is 4 de Mayo 1763. So go back another 10 to image 30. This is where
you will

The marriage record shows Julio Lomeli to be the son of Fernando de Lomelí
and Isabel Enriquez. I found a baptism for Julio Joseph born to Fernando de
Lomelín and Isabel de Calderón. She could have been a daughter or
granddaughter of Pedro Enriquez del Castillo and Isabel Delgadillo married
3 July 1667 in Nochistlán. I have no proof of this but the use of both of
those surnames is a good indicator. Someone else here might have more info
on them.

I forgot to say I think Isabel Delgadillo was a granddaughter of Isabel de

Calderón being one and Enriquez being the other.

Hello Everyone,

I am very new to this group. Help Please!

I think I may have located my grandfather's christening at the Family Search >Mexico>Zacatecas>Momax (Bautizo). I found his name at the front of the book and it stated Delfino Alvarez Pag. 10. I went in to page 10, I searched under his birthdate too and could not find it.

How do I locate the record as stated in the index?

Here is the link:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-15206-2660-73?cc=1410092&wc=…

Any advice greatly appreciated. I am so excited. :)

Pauline,

The index isn't always correct. You need to be a real sleuth. My system is give or take 10 pages before or 10 pages after what it states in the index. The birthdate isn't always at the top of the record, the first date on the record is usually the date of the baptism. The birth date will be a few lines below for that same record. Usually states the name of the child, his or her parents and then the birthdate. Each town is slightly different in how they make their entries.

Hope this helps.

In some volumes only the fronts of the pages are numbered ("folio" numbers), and you may see indexed names with numbers like "10f" or "10v", meaning front and back. In these volumes the "f" or "v" can also be left off.

In other volumes, the numbers are actual page numbers.

I think you're going to family search>Mexico>Zacatecas and then the civil records for Zacatecas, they begin at 1860. What you need to do is go to the following for the church records which are more extensive.

familysearch>Mexico> and at the center of the page, you'll find Mexico Catholic Church Records Browse Images 21 Dec 2010. this is the date when the digitized Zacatecas Church records went on-line, click on it> next is Browse through 16,596,760 Images and all the states appear, then click on Zacatecas and you're in. Here's the link that takes you to Zacatecas.
