In response to your inquiries about Gonzalez ancestries ....

My oldest Conrique ancestor that I have been able to document is that of Don Francisco Conrique (ca. 1720 - ?) who married Doña Maria Juana Ynez Maldonado Lozano (1727 - 1744), of San Juan de Los Lagos, and had a son (my 6G-grandfather) Don Juan Francisco Xavier Conrique (1744 - ?).

I have documented several Gonzalez ancestry branches of my 6G-grandmother Doña Juana Ynez Maldonado Lozano (1727 - 1744):

Four times paternally through ....

1.- .... two different descendent lines from her 5G-grandfather Francisco Gutierrez Rubio (1551 - ?), son of Diego Gonzalez de Hermosillo (? - ?) and Ana Gonzalez Florida; and
2.- .... two different descendent lines from her 6G-grandfather Capitan Don Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo (1495 - ?), son of Alonso de Hermosilla (? -?) and Catalina Gonzalez (?Gavilan?) (? - ?).

.... and twice maternally through ....

1.- her 5G-grandfather Alonso Gonzalez de Ruvalcaba (1545 - ?), son of Mateo de Ruvalcaba (? - ?) and Juana Maria Gonzalez (? - ?).

2.- and, again, Capitan Don Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo through his great granddaughter Teresa Gonzalez de Hermosillo (? - ?) daughter of Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo (1571 - ?) and Maria Muñoz (? - ?).

I hope this is helpful to you, and I would also appreciate any information that would advance my research on any of these lines (most specially that of Don Francisco Conrique (ca. 1720 - ?).

About Citing Sources and Areas where they are not cited, or turn out to be
incorrect:

I understand what you are saying, in regards to finding, and hearing others
say, about family history genealogies that turn out to be partially
incorrect, but they insist they are correct, because someone said it was
so. Or, the information cannot be taken off that site, even if it is wrong,
or whatever. Also, finding these on Family Search, family trees with no
sources cited, marriages and births posted on there in perpetuity that are
not verified as to where they got that information. And, I know for myself
certain info provided is completely incorrect, but have no way of contacting
whoever posted it.

Well, I know I have learned my own lessons about this, as I have taken up
the baton from my "dearly departed father" to carry on with our family
history research, to make it a firm habit, whether I don't feel like it or
what, to keep track of where I found each item as I go along. And, I'm
still learning. So, I know how hard this is, the aspect of being thorough,
keeping detailed records, etc. when I am looking through many, many sources
at any given time. There are times, too, when I was beginnning this, that I
just didn't know how thorough I needed to be until I had to reorder a
film or tear through the papers and books again for where the heck I found
that little information about a town or something. And, recalling when I
began, how I sent out to all my family my first family tree chart, that I
soon learned was full of incorrect information I believed was true, because
my mother told it to me! And, was I going back to tell everyone? No,
because my chart is always changing. Learning that Pioquinta Gonzalez was
not of royalty from Spain, but of humble birth in the Huichol region of
Jalisco, her own mother an Indian. And, too, Benigno Cabral was not from
Portugal, not a sea captain, but was born in Jalisco, also. That was a
valuable lesson learned. Do the research! Family stories are nice, but
researching it to prove them or disprove them is absolutely necessary. It's
all part of the journey and makes our books and memoirs we write someday
more colorful when we add them in as "stories I was told by Grandma."

Hello Corrine & John,

Like John, (who I connect most directly through our Gtz) I also
have Gonzales from Jalostotitlan via my paternal Great grandmother,
Paulina Gonzales, born 1872 in Jalostotitlan tying back via her paternal
line to Domingo Gonzales-Rubio still in Jalostotitlan in the 1680. Her
maternal line goes back to Jose-Esteban Gonzales born in Nochistlan,
Zac, possibly mid 1700's. I still have more work to do on these lines.
Not sure if they are also Gonzales Hermosillo. I also have an
Hermosillo line from Jalostotitlan.

A few weeks ago there was considerable discussion about why the name Jose was written Joseph, and vice versa.

I have just found the Matrimonial Investigation for Jose or Joseph Pantaleon de Sandoval and his second wife, Maria Ignacia Lopez de Nava. In the document his name is consistently written "Jose Pantaleon de Sandobal." He signed in two places, and both times signed as "Jph Pantaleon de Sandobal." One of the testigos was was Jose Narciso Sandobal according to the document, but he signed "Jph Narciso de Sandobal." Another testigo was Jose de Medina, who signed "Jph de Medina."

It is interesting that the officials use Jose, but the people themselves signed Joseph.

I'm curious on what others do about putting a record that someone else gathered and shared but with no documentation. When it's the same town it's easier to accept but when it takes you to another state in Mexico I'm not sure if I should use it. It's not my direct line but my cousins line and the info takes it back to the late 1500's in Mexico when I only have it back to abt 1850. I always try to share my documentation when sharing files. Any suggestions?

I think it is an awesome endeavor to pursuit non-profit status. The
benefits sound very positive and a definite supportive aid for members
interested in writing and publishing their genealogies and to provide funds
for those traveling to conferences, etc.

Nuestros Ranchos has always been more than a forum for me. It has been more
of a club and taking it to the next level, by obtaining non-profit status,
develops a base for its financial support, so that it may operate more
effectively and achieve goals.

I have gained much by being a member of Nuestros Ranchos and I would be
very, very happy to either act as a representative for California or as a
board member.

I don't know if you had yet found the record of Rafael Maldonado's wedding with Toribia Gonzalez, but it is indexed on IGI and the record should show the parents of the groom and bride. It seems that you already have the parents of the bride.

I am trying to find information on the Rancho de los Sandovales from Aguascalientes.

Andres Alonso, "hijo natural" of Maria Ignacia Alonso, who married Theresa Sandoval, in January 1810, were apparently both born there. Maria Ignacia Alonso died before January 1810. I have no further information on her.

I have been unsucssessful in locating a baptismal record for Andres, but according to the Informationes Matrimoniales, he was age 20 in December 1809.

Did the Sandoval family own Rancho de los Sandovales?

Is there a place or section where the e-mail address of group members are posted? I wanted to contact Jose Carlos de Leon but found the address in his online older message incorrect. I know sometimes we would prefer not to put online what is directed to just one member. In this case I wanted to share a photo of a mutual relative.

The films database is now fully functional and films can be added and edited.

Please let me know if there are any problems.

Also, there is a project to upgrade the films database for which I could use a volunteer or two who is good in Excel.

And finally, the films database gave me the idea of putting up a library catalog of sorts that would list genealogy books relevant to our region and members who owned those books could tag themselves similar to the way we tag ourselves on films we have on indefinite loan.

What do you all think about that idea?

There is a Banuelos family who claims to be my cousins and cousins of my Banuelos branch. They don't know HOW they are cousins but they insist that they are. I can't find any records of them anywhere.

Their living descendants don't know either...they barely remembered their grandfather's name. My older brothers also told me that they are our cousins but don't know how.

I was wondering if anyone could help me find out? They live in my California hometown where most of the Banuelos and DE LEON famiilies live. I remember visiting them with my parents in the late 1940s and early 1950s when I was a child. My mother told me that she was my "Tia" Nicolasa Banuelos born on 23 Jul 1915 in Huehucar. Her mother's name was Mercedes Flores born on 24 Sep 1888 married to Lazaro Banuelos. I also thought that because Mercedes was a "Flores" that perhaps she was from my paternal grandmother Petra Flores Sandoval's side. Mercedes' father was Santos Flores and mother was Jesusita (unknown last name).

I verified the dates because I visited their graves ans photographed their tombstones.

I ran a check and located a Mercedes Flores born on the same date 09/24/1888 to a Santos Flores and mother Juana Ramos in Bolivia. Does that kinda throw a monkey-wrench in the Family Tree?

I am trying to sort out an interesting question about Juan de Santiago or de Santiago Escobar.

There is a Juan de Santiago, husband of Gertrudis Navarro, was buried on 1 Sep 1729, in Aguascalientes. If I read the burial record correctly, he was married three times (only Gertrudis Navarro is mentioned), and had 45 legitimate children, of who 24 were living at the time of his death!!

There is a Juan de Santiago (also known Juan de Santiago Escobar) who married Antonia Ruis de Esparza on 6 Jul 1665, in Aguascalients. They had at least these children:
-Juan, chr 8 Mar 1666
-Marcos, chr 8 Mar 1666 (married Beatriz de Aguirre)
-Joan (Juan), chr 30 Sep 1667
-Antonio de Santiago y Escobar, chr 5 Sep 1670 (married Juana Maria Delgado)
-Juan, chr 30 Mar 1673 (apparently married Rosa Romo de Vivar [I can't confirm this])
-Francisco, chr 30 Mar 1673
-Joseph, chr 4 Sep 1676
-Maria, chr 14 Apr 1680
-Juan de Santiago Escobar, chr 30 Aug 1682 (married 1. Josepha Flores and 2. Gertrudis Rosalia de la Paz)

Juan de Santiago married again, Gertrudis de Esparza y Rangel Castilla (or Ruis de Esparza) on 7 Oct 1698 (the marriage record says he is the widower or Antonia). They had at least these children:

Juan de Santiago (or de Santiago Escobar) married Maria Gertrudis Navarro on 26 May 1706. There is no mention that he is a widower. They had at least these children:

Joseph Puentes and I had dinner tonight with and he presented me with a large number of letters from Nuestros Ranchos members expressing their gratitude for my work on the site, many of which included monetary contributions. I am extremely moved and grateful at members' generosity and throughtfulness. I discussed with Joseph that I could not accept the money, but that I would be willing to take the money and use it as the seed money to incorporate Nuestros Ranchos as a nonprofit so as to take it to the next level.

I have been on the Boards of a number of nonprofits and understand the work involved, but I think this group has been blessed with many volunteers and as long as we continue to have such involvement and keep our goals modest, we will inevitably succeed.

Please let me know if you would like to take part in this process. I am thinking it would be best to incorporate in Texas or California where we have the largest membership as having a resident in the state of incorporation is a requirement.

Estoy muy conmovido y agradecido a los miembros por su generosidad y consideración. Le dije a Joseph que no podía aceptar el dinero, pero que yo estaría dispuesto a tomar el dinero y utilizarlo como el capital inicial para incorporar Nuestros Ranchos como una organización sin fines de lucro a fin de llevar a la orgnización al próximo nivel.

He sido parte de las mesas directivas de un número de organizaciones sin fines de lucro y entiendo el trabajo que supone mi propuesta, pero creo que este grupo ha sido bendecido con muchos voluntarios y mientras sigamos teniendo esa participación y mantengamos nuestros objetivos modestos, inevitablemente tendremos éxito.

"Incorporation" is a formal/legal manner of organizing and managing an
entity (con personalidad juridica) that is something very similar to the
Mexican SDRL (Sociedad de Responsabilidad Limitada) and is highly
recommended when one wishes to shield the participants from
"individual/personal" liability that may otherwise occur for acts of the
organization or other members, and it also provides a path for continuity
or "permanency" of the organization even when shareholders (or in the
contemplated case, "members") change along the way.

When "Non-profit" (sin proposito de lucro) status is recognized, the
corporation does not incur "income taxes" and financial donors can "deduct"
their donations from their Income Tax Reports.

Hello all.

I have found a family in my line that sometimes goes by PLACENCIA, and at other time they are registered as ROBLES.

My 4 gg-mother is MONICA PLACENCIA, married in 1815 to JULIAN ALVARADO in Moyahua, Zacatecas.

I found that on her children's records, she is MONICA PLACENCIA, and her father is JOSE ONOFRE PLACENCIA (her mother is JUANA MARIA DE TORRES).

However--in her marriage record and her siblings' marriage records, they are all DE ROBLES.

Can anyone shed light on this?

I'm in California and would be willing to help. I think the concept is sound, for covering site fees alone if nothing else.

I think that by-laws would have to include the process by which money distribution is determined. For example, would we have scholarship/executive committee "meetings" via mailing list, Skype, or other? Also, in thinking of a group by-laws, I think that membership should always be free but perhaps a professional genealogist or other service provider who works in our focus area would be able to pay annual dues to be a "professional member" and have some sort of advertisement on the site. We could also use funds for printing and mailing of a printed newsletter, directory, or educational materials. I think that if we incorporate, we should think about some ways for those not online to both contribute and receive benefit from group membership such as with any genealogical society, such as book borrowing, research assistance, etc.

The primary benefit of incorporating as a 501(c)(3) would be the ability of the group to take donations and have those donations be tax deductible. I have often thought it would be great to be able to sponsor members (or others researching our area of interest) in a variety of different ways, such as:
1. Financial assistance in publishing genealogical research
2. Sponsorships of speakers at genealogical conferences
3. Scholarships for members to attend genealogical conferences

Previously the only way that you could search the site was by being a member and being logged in. We have now implemented a limited search function for visitors to the site who are not logged in. The search function is through Google so it only shows results for the "public" areas of the site, basically the forums.

If you would like to get more complete search results, the full search function is still available when you are logged in. You will notice that the search field and button change and that you get much fuller results when you use the site search function. Please let us know what you think.
