To Linda: Re Jerez records

Linda,

Thank you so much for all your work in sharing the Jerez records.

Because of my slow dial-up, I can't receive them through e-mail, but I am so glad that you have posted them to WorldConnect.

Recently, I broke down a brick wall on research I have been doing for a friend whose ancestors came from Jerez, as did my father's. I finally found a birth record for her grandfather in the Family Search Pilot which gave me his parents' names, and from there I went to your files in WorldConnect and I was able to find the rest of his ancestors going back to the early 1700s, including family groups. How you manage to do that is astounding.

I hope you know how many people you have helped, and helped me to help, because of your diligence.

Gratefully,

Emilie Garcia

Tips for Google Books

I justed wanted to add to the group that I have used Google books for my research. I have Googled people and in fact I've been Googled. Like any search engine it is always best to tailor your search using quote marks. It filters out the junk. While working on my last project I found that my great-great grandfather converted to the Presbyterian religion and was the first church elder in Irwindale, California around 1900. I had found OLD Presbyterian journals in Google books with articles about my g-g grandfather and pictures of the rock church, which still stands to this day.

Google books is always worth a try and if you can't view the book online, at least you have the book information and try to order it on interlibrary loan through the local county library.

Diego Machado Rengel

Good Evening,

Does anyone have any information on Diego Machado Rengel born in Fresnillo, Zacatecas about 1626. His parents were Capitan Hernando Machado and Maria Bernal. Diego was married to Maria Prado Carbajal about 1645 and died in Hidalgo del Parral, Chihuahua on the 26th of August 1675.

Would appreciate only information. Thank you.

Canuta Padilla Gallo

Saludos y gracias.

I have a paternal grandfather (Andres A. Romo) that is from Teocaltiche, Jalisco. I have a maternal grandmother (Teresa Ante Medellin) from Ojuelos, Jalisco.

The line from Andres Romo - his father was Claro Romo (married to Crisanta Aguilera)_
Claro Romo - father was Don Bernabe Romo (married to Maria de Jesus Moran Aguilera)
Don Barnabe Romo - father was Don  Ygnacio Romo (married to Dona Maria de Jesus Dias)

Other names from Teocaltiche area: Qurinio Aguilera, Mucia Fuentes, Ruperto Moran, Emeteria Aguilera, Jose Maria Aguilera, Mariana Palos, Tomas Fuentes, Tomasa Cardenal.
This is as far as I get in the LDS records. I believe that many used different surnames of earlier ancestors, very confusing.

Maria Teresa Ante's mother was Maria D. Rodrgiuez, her father was Roque Rodriguez, his father was Bernandino Rodriguez. Antonio Ante Aguilar's wife was Maria D. Rodriguez. SLC

I was so encouraged by a posting that others may be visiting the research center in June that I made travel arrangements and reservations for June 17 thru 20.  I am a novice to geneology and would like to be prepared for the visit.  My brother is traveling from Los Angeles and I will be traveling from Houston.  We would like to meet anyone in the group that will be in SLC on any of those dates for some tips and guidance in research of Delgadillo, Prieto and Medrano in Zacatecas and Aguascalientes.  Suggestions for research preparation are most welcome.

Guatemala, España, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Colombia, Argentina, Nicaragua,

directamente a mi correo electrónico EduardoHSeoane@gmail.com .

Saludos desde Utah,

By this means I would like to inform the Nuestros Ranchos group that I am in
the process of taking on new clients / projects and I am formally
introducing myself

I am a genealogical research consultant and my name is Eduardo H. Seoane. As
a consultant I have helped people with ancestors from Mexico, Guatemala,
Spain, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Colombia, Argentina, Nicaragua, Honduras,
Portugal, Brazil, USA, Puerto Rico, and many other countries. I also
occasionally teach classes. My parents are native of Puebla, Mexico and I
have over 17 years of experience working with genealogical records. I am
bilingual and I live thirteen (13) minutes from the Family History Library
in Salt Lake City, Utah. That is why it has been easy to help the group with
some of the questions and I will continue to assist the group when possible.

I appreciate the opportunity to be a member of Nuestros Ranchos. It is truly
a phenomenal source for obtaining genealogical help. Some professional
genealogists think that they should not help people in groups like this
because it limits the availability of work, I do not think so. To the
contrary, helping people does not restrict the work that we have; it only
opens the doors to more difficult questions that help us provide better
service.

Does anyone have anyinfo on this couple, I have not been able to order it yet becuae I have 5 films already at the FHC.

Andrea Sánchez de Mendoza
Juan de Villaseñor y Orozco
Marriage: 20 Aug 1724 Jalostotitlán

I do know for a fact that Andrea is related to the same Hurtado de Mendoza. At least two daughters of the Toribio Hernández (Fernández) de Arellano and Isabel Hurtado de Mendoza, used Sánchez de Mendoza. I think Andrea last name had been passed down maternally. So her father may not even be Mendoza at all. The thing is I have not seen any Sánchez de Mendoza after 1670 or so. So it could be a grandmother of hers. I thought it died out but was wrong. Any help will be appreciated! Does anyone have this record or film on loan? -Daniel

Salt Lake City research trip anyone??

Hello Nuestros Ranchos Members:

I'm planning a trip to SLC in June or July, I can be flexible on the date and am looking for a female travel partner to SLC.

If any nuestros ranchos ladies are interested, please let me know.

Of course any gentlemen can go too, I'm just looking for a roommate and travel buddy but if a group of people go, male or female and meet up there, that would also be great.

If interested, you can contact me off-line at alliecar@pacbell.net.

Regards,

Andres de Puga and Sebastiana Delgado Gabai married on May 17 1693 in Aguascalientes. Parents of the groom are not listed. Sebastiana is daughter of Joseph Delgado and Francisca Gabai. Does any one has additional information, specifically what is the relationship of Francisca to Ana Francisca Gabay, wife of Lope Ruiz de Esparza?

It seems that the trouble people have been having with receiving emails
is due to Hotmail/MSN/Live.com putting a block on our Internet Service

trying to get them to lift the block but that it could take "days or
even weeks". So if you can hold on for awhile please read the email

Taking a Break

Hi, Everyone:

I wish to remain a member of Nuestros Ranchos, but I need to take a break
from being an active participant. I am just taking on a new committment, a
big, long term project that is very, very important to me, and need to
devote my thoughts and energy to that for a time until I get the swing of
things with that. While I don't contribute much to begin with, I will not
be contributing anything for a time. I will continue to keep up with
reading the emails, but need to set aside my own participation.

I hope that this will not affect the viability of the group in any way, but
it is what I need to do at this time.

Thank-you for your understanding.

Problema

Have You Any Gonzalez In Your Family Tree?

Thank-you for the many responses. The surname Gonzalez has been both a
blessing, because my family tree has sure grown since I began researching
this line, but it is also a time consuming challenge to stick with it,
because there are so many Gonzalez in microfilms. The microfilm I am
currently viewing is LDS Film Number 1667417 for Huejuquilla El Alto,
Jalisco, the San Diego Parish Records of Baptisms 1833-1875. It is in the
Diocese of Zacatecas.

This particular film has taken me many months to view and I am still going,
because there are so many Gonzalez in it. I asked if anyone had this
surname in their tree, because you would know how voluminous the information
can become with such a surname. The exciting prospect is, that I think I
may have found the area of my first "Rancho," somewhere in this parish.
There is the mission San Diego in Huejuquilla in the Huichol homelands and
the many pueblos, haciendas, and ranchos of this parish. But, only one or
two contain those families I know are my ancestors. The main area
they lived was in Huejuquilla, but some lived on the Rancho de la Muraya and
Rancho de los Limones.

The names I have found in this film have created a whole branch of my family
tree stemming from my great-grandmother Francisca Cabral. Her siblings
were: Virginia, Jesus Maria, Felis, all born in Huejuquilla; Juana, born in
Aguascalientes; Luz, Miguel, Isabel, and Daniel, who, along with Francisca
were born in Guadalajara.

Their parents were Pioquinta Gonzalez and Benigno Cabral. On this film I am
viewing, 1667417, I found Pioquinta's siblings. Pioquinta was born 1834,
then Maximo, Eufemia, and Pasqual. Benigno was from Huejucar.

Pioquinta's mother was Maria Antonia Gonzalez, whom I believe was a Huichol
or, as I think they call themselves, Masrara? Her father was said to be
Ygnacio Figueroa, but he did not claim her at her baptism, so she is merely
an indio, hija natural de Antonia Gonzalez. (And, I have not found any
record of him on this film, so I ask myself if I should even pursuit his
supposed line.)

Maria Antonia Gonzalez' siblings were Santos de la Cruz, Felis, Maria Juana,
and Esteban. Santos de la Cruz Gonzalez married Maria Rosalia Delgado,
daughter of Andres Delgado and Anastacia Gregoria Correa. Their children
were: Catarina, Trancita, Lazara, and Eduarda, born on Rancho de la Muraya
and whose children were born on Rancho de los Limones. Felis married Maria
Josefa Garcia, daughter of Anselmo Garcia and Maria Macedonia Castaneda.
Their children were: Juliana and Damazo. Maria Juana did not marry. Her
children were Donaciano and Jose Maria, whose father was Alejo Orosco.
Esteban married Maria Encarnacion Escalante, daughter of Baleria Escalante.
Their child was Antonia.

Maria Antonia Gonzalez and her sibling's parents were Justo Rufino Gonzalez
and Maria Juana Antonia Vasquez. I believe they were born in the 1700's,
but I do not know where yet.

So, it appears that this line is Gonzalez/Vasquez, but I don't know how far
I will be able to carry this back. I have read that names like Gonzalez are
so prevalent, because the priests gave those surnames to the Indians, like
Josefa Valenzuela and Jose Gonzalez, rather than recording their Indian
name. So, how many of these surnames are for people who were not related,
but the priest's gave these to them all over the map, within every mission
territory? All the Gonzalez in one area may appear to be related by their
surname, but are not at all. The workers of a hacienda may have taken the
surname of the hacienda owner, all the workers becoming Gonzalez or
Rodriguez, or whatever. I can follow this line of my direct ancestors, but
it would be difficult to connect all the Gonzalez in this region to each
other as being related to one another. In contrast, my Frias ancestors from
Chihuahua were indeed "de una mata," from one root, as my great-grandmother
"used to say" (oops! There's another story for the record books! Should
I change that to "alleged" or "purported" or "said" or "claimed?")

Well, many possibilities, one vast journey. Gonzalez/Vasquez is where I am
at, the search continues in that direction from the tiny little Pueblo de
Huejuquillo El Alto en la Sierra de los Huicholes de Jalisco, Mexico!

Thanks, again,
Corrine Ardoin

Gonzalez Surnames and Other Ancestries in Los Altos de Jalisco

John Gonzalez, Corrine Ardoin, and others,

In response to your inquiries about Gonzalez ancestries ....

My oldest Conrique ancestor that I have been able to document is that of Don Francisco Conrique (ca. 1720 - ?) who married Doña Maria Juana Ynez Maldonado Lozano (1727 - 1744), of San Juan de Los Lagos, and had a son (my 6G-grandfather) Don Juan Francisco Xavier Conrique (1744 - ?).

I have documented several Gonzalez ancestry branches of my 6G-grandmother Doña Juana Ynez Maldonado Lozano (1727 - 1744):

1.- .... two different descendent lines from her 5G-grandfather Francisco Gutierrez Rubio (1551 - ?), son of Diego Gonzalez de Hermosillo (? - ?) and Ana Gonzalez Florida; and
2.- .... two different descendent lines from her 6G-grandfather Capitan Don Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo (1495 - ?), son of Alonso de Hermosilla (? -?) and Catalina Gonzalez (?Gavilan?) (? - ?).

.... and twice maternally through ....

1.- her 5G-grandfather Alonso Gonzalez de Ruvalcaba (1545 - ?), son of Mateo de Ruvalcaba (? - ?) and Juana Maria Gonzalez (? - ?).

2.- and, again, Capitan Don Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo through his great granddaughter Teresa Gonzalez de Hermosillo (? - ?) daughter of Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo (1571 - ?) and Maria Muñoz (? - ?).

I hope this is helpful to you, and I would also appreciate any information that would advance my research on any of these lines (most specially that of Don Francisco Conrique (ca. 1720 - ?).
