Deciphering marriage certificate

I need some help in figuring out the bride's mother's name on the marriage certificate for Agustin Ursua and Bernardina Gutierres at https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-G5BH-B?mode=g&i=359&wc

Nicolas de Ursua married to Josepha Rodriguez Martin de Chabes (IM-1708 attached)

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939N-BL51

The parents of Nicolas de Ursua are listed as Augustin de Ursua and Bernarda Rodriguez and originally from Aguascalientes. The record you attached to deciper Ana de Chabes states an explanation of aguascalientes being his place of origin but the birth record states Jalisco. They seem to be the same person except for the timeframe of birth and IM date of birth. Of course, the priest could have made mistakes as in the case in several of my ancestors records.

Are they the same person, perhaps I missed something. I just found this record of marriage yesterday as he is married to my 1st cousin 8x removed.

Comment

On 7 May 1708 in Lagos, Nicolas de Ursua provided information to marry Josefa Martinez, 'espanola' from Hacienda la Pendencia in Sierra de Pinos, daughter of Pascual Rodriguez and Matiana Martinez (deceased). In the IM he states that he is from Rio de Santa Maria in the 'parroquia' of Lagos, he is the legitimate son of Agustin de Ursua and Bernarda Gutierrez, 'espanoles'. He declares that he is 24 years old which is 7 years older than the age of the Nicolas baptized in Lagos on 30 Sept 1677. Perhaps he didn't know when he was born and therefore didn't know his true age (not uncommon) or maybe the Nicolas born in 1677 died young and this is a second Nicolas?

The IM is at: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-V1N9-C?i=110&wc=3J8Q-L2S%3…

Hi Austin - My line of descent is actually through the brother of Nicolas, Manuel. He was born in 1679 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-K9D1-P?mode=g&i=71&wc=3J86… and married Petra Ornelas in 1707. https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-K98W-N?mode=g&i=162&wc=3J8…

The marriage certificate also states that Manuel is from Rio de Santa Maria and that Petronila is from Hacienda de San Matias. But unfortunately it doesn't give parents' names. I can verify Manuel's from his death certificate, but I haven't been able to find Petra's.

I get really frustrated with trying to work with información matrimonial. Do you have any suggestions? Almost every time I have tried, I can get to a month before the marriage in question and then it skips to six months after. I am really interested in this particular marriage because I can't find any other

Hi Daniel,
I too descend from this couple. They are my 7th great grandparents. Below is the relavent information from their IM which is located at:

Hello Daniel. My stepfather Anastacio Sanchez married my mother and they had five children. I had one of my half sisters take the dna test. The results were 60% Native American. I found one family member for Urzua that are identified as Indian. My step father's and all his siblings had blue, green or hazel eyes and white skin. My stepfather was born in 1914. His gggrandfather Onofre Sanchez Married Maria Jesus Gutierrez in 1847, Villa de Garcia, Nuevo Leon. Do you have these names in your family tree?

Comment

Thanks Austin

Two would make sense. The two Nicolas' are surely related, first they marry into the Chabes, and Rodriguez, as many of us know, families seem to marry into the same families.

What is a mystery are the differences in surnames of bernarda, it could mean two bernardas which was a name in fashion at the time and the "original de Aguascalientes" for Agustin. I will keep looking for answers and hope someone else has a piece to contribute.

Arizmendi (Jalisco/Zacatecas/Aguascalientes/San Luis Potosi)

Juan del Muro and his wife Maria de Arizmendi were married in Aguascalientes 8 January 1668. Many descendants of this couple spread throughout Aguascalientes, Jalisco, and Zacatecas.

Ruben,

There is a son of Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo and Ana Gonzalez Florida that uses the name Pedro Gutierrez de HErmosillo. I'm not sure if it's the same as yours but it does tell you that there were descendants of the Gonzalez de Hermosillo's that use the name Pedro Gutierrez. I'm not sure when your Pedro was born but this Pedro Gutierrez de Hermosillo would have been born before 1666. you can find see him here:

Help 1769 slave from London

Hello Group,
I'd appreciate help interpreting this unusual baptismal entry (on right)
from 1769 San Martin Texmelucan, Puebla, image 161.

Alice,
I did a search of those without a last name from England in the 17th Century looking for similar baptisms. I wasn't able to find anyone else listed as a slave. If you find out more information, could you please post it here? I will be interested in what you learn. Elizabeth

Comment

I can't really help you read this, but it's really interesting to see. I didn't realize that they brought slaves from london. wow. i wonder how often that happened.

Hi Danny,
I was just doing my usual ancestral research and came across this entry and thought others would find it interesting. It was a first for
me, but then I haven't been doing genealogy as long as many group members. If I
could interpret what was written, it might give some clue as how a negro English slave came to 1769 Puebla?! I thought maybe by way of Cuba, as the English took over Habana in 1762 and brought 10,000+ African slaves, but he claims to be from
London, England. How interesting?!

I believe that we may be tracking one of the same family lines. I know for a fact that my great-grandfather, Hilario de Jesus Castaneda, was born in San Jose, Moyahua (1867) to a Manuel Castaneda and a Secundina Yniguez. I have found information about Hilario Castaneda that shows his maternal grandparents listed as Antonio Iniguez and Josefa Sandoval. The way I figure it, Secundina may have been Inez's sister.

Jose, you did a great job of presentation, thank you.  I'm afraid I don't have any info or links to your family but watch for some of the surnames you shared.
Welcome to the group, I do think you will be a great asset  and do hope some in the group do connect to your lines.

Jose Felisano Santillan stated he was orginally from Cuquio, Jalisco, Mexico, the legitimate son of Francisco Santillan and Maria de la Cruz Reynoso.

Maria Rosalia Reynoso stated she was orginally from Ranchos de Contitlan (near Moyahua and Juchipila), and 18 years old in 1815, placing her birth circa 1797, the legitimate daughter of Miguel Reynoso and Maria Potenciana Flores

The document stated that bride/groom were

The lines that I am currently working on have Leonor Vásques de Retamosa in several different places.

Alonso de Alba and Nicolas Macias Valadez are not the same person at all. But Alonso Macias Valadez and Nicolas Macias Valadez probably are. Most people say he was born around 1557, not 1527.

Alonso de Alba is married to Leonor de Retamosa, daughter of Leonor de Retamosa and Nicolas/Alonso Macias Valadez. Juana Bautista de Alba y Retamosa is the daughter of Leonor de Retamosa the younger and granddaughter of the original Leonor de Retamosa.

Maria de Alba was married to Francisco de Cerbantes y Villasenor. She was the daughter of the older Leonor de Retamosa and Nicolas/Alonso Macias Valadez.

So, there are two Leonor de Retamosa's. The second Leonor was daughter of the first. The older Leonor was married only once and Nicolas Macias Valadez and Alonso de Alba are two different people.

You can find more about them here: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/De_Retamosa-1

https://www.familysearch.org/search/image/show#uri=https%3A//api.family…

Here is a research project for you. Look for the children and grandchildren of Juan Martinez Calvillo (b. Ant 1638) (died. 17-Apr-1673) married in about 1662 to Josepha Aguilera de Sandi (died about July 1677)

They are the parents of Heugenio Martinez Calvillo b 18/dec 1669 married to Xertrudis Ruiz de Estrada Alvarado Lopez

I believe that Maria Dolores Calvillo is possibly a granddaughter to Juan Martinez Calvillo and Josepha Aguilar de Sandi.

Dear Danny,

His name is Francisco Bernabe Ruiz de Esparza, his father is Jose Cristobal Ruiz de Esparza. I included this information in the other blog.

Presently, I have not confirmed who his father is but I have a Thread to pull. Many years back I worked on a family members Palomar ancestry. In that ancestry there is Ruiz de Esparza married to Martinez Calvillo. In That branch there is a sibling Cristobal (Salado) Ruiz de Esparza. His sibling married into the Martinez Calvillo family. I would need to reopen my research and look over all my notes on this family to see if there is a connection.

There is a possibility that Jose Cristobal Ruiz de Esparza is the same person as Jose Cristobal (Salado) Ruiz de Esparza who is the son of Cristobal Ruiz de Esparza and Antonia Lopez de Alvarado, this Xrtobal Salado Ruiz de Esparza was baptized 2/dec/1668

Hi Danny,
I descend from this couple on my mom's side, but I haven't done any research on them. But, my guess is that Agustín Pérez is the same as Juan Agustín Pérez Franco married to Ana María de Lomelín. That would make María de los Dolores Cuéllar his second wife. If he is the same, and I think he is, he's the Son of Francisco Pérez Franco and Teresa Martín del Campo seen here:

Don Juan Francisco:

I was able to track my Reynozo line to Alexo Reynozo married to Ana Maria Martinez aka: Ana Maria Chumacero to the year 1819 when one of their sons got married in Moyahua Zacatecas. Alexo and Ana Maria had several kids: Jose Alexo, Dionicio , Maria T and Lazaro Reynozo but I have been unable to locate any of them. I have tried looking in Zacatecas and in Jalisco area but no luck. I have read that originally there were two Reynozos one went to Zacatecas and the other stayed in Jalisco but not sure where mine came from. If you have any information please help.

I tracked my Reynoso line to Miguel Reynoso married to Maria Potenciana Flores to the year 1815 when the oldest daughter, Rosalia married in Moyahua Zacatecas. According to the 1825 census, Miguel was born abt 1772 (age 53) and resided in "La Hacienda de Santa Rosa". I too have had no luck in finding any other information. I've looked in the nearby parishes in both Zacatecas and Jalisco, but I have not found any additional information. I would appreciate any information anyone has..

Hi Bertha,

I am new to the group and ran across your Reynoso family when researching for my spouse, Judith Ingram, maiden name Martinez. The collateral families of my wife include both the Lozano and Renteria surnames, mainly in the Monterrey and surrounding areas of Nuevo Leon, but the Lozano/Renteria families were also from Zacatecas/Jalisco.

Long story short; the Lozano and Renteria families both link to the Moyahua/Juchipila Reynoso family. Anyway, that was just a short intro into how I found your family, and have not found that the Reynoso's are directly related to my spouse's Martinez family. It does appear that branches of the Renteria/Reynoso/Lozano families all migrated from Jalostotitlan/Lagos, Jalisco to Juchipila/Moyahua, Zacatecas very early on.

The marriage dispensation of Miguel Reynoso's daughter Maria Rosalia Reynoso to Joseph "Jose" Francisco Feliciano Santillan stated that these two were distantly related via two sons of Diego Reynoso, Cristoval and Sancho

Comment

Bertha and José:

The main ancestor of the Reynoso line in Nueva Galicia is the Captain Francisco de Reynoso Rico, as stated above. He married Mariana de Padilla-Dávila and they had 6 children (5 male, 1 female: Francisco, Juan, Diego, Sancha, Joseph and Antonio). The eldest son -Francisco- had descendants mainly in Jalisco, Guanajuato and Michoacán; Joseph de Reynoso had a daughter called Angela who married the Alferez Real Cristóbal Lagunes de Soria.

Diego, the third son, was baptised on January 5th 1634 in Guadalajara, he married Margarita de Rentería y Valdés and had many descendants in the region of Zacatecas. You should be looking for the connection to Diego de Reynoso y Padilla-Dávila.

Best regards,

Comment

Mr. De Tejada, Thank you for the information you provided. Today I found the marriage certificate for Joseph Reynoso y Renteria hijo de Diego De Reynoso y Padilla and Doña Margarita de Renteria with Juana Sanchez Alvarez Tostado and according to the record all were "orginarios de Juchipila, Zac. en la Hacienda Buena Vista" Marriage date 26 Mar 1714 in San Felipe Cuquio, Jalisco. The only problem is that in Juchipila, Zac. there are no records till the year 1825 so would their records be in other towns?
Bertha Alicia Casanova

Comment

Dear Bertha,

Congratulations of finding the marriage certificate of Joseph and Juana; Mariano González-Leal (Retoños de España en la Nueva Galicia, 2010) mentions the following children of Diego de Reynoso and Margarita de Rentería:

a) Diego, married to Juana Lozano.
b) Joseph, married to Juana Sánchez de Porras y Álvarez de Luna (Sánchez Álvarez-Tostado).
c) Juan Manuel, married to Josefa de Vargas-Machuca y Ramírez de Hermosillo.
d) Juan Antonio, married to Nicolasa Díaz de Santiago y de Ayllón.
e) María, married to the Captain Alejandro Sánchez de Porras y de Hermosillo.
f) Mariana, married to Jerónimo Sánchez de Porras y Álvarez de Luna.

Regarding the records of Juchipila: Since there are no ecclesiatical records previous to 1825 I suggest looking for the last will of Miguel Reynoso; this search must be made in situ because there are no digitalized records of them so far but perhaps someone in the region can help you.

I wish I could help you more, Bertha. I will let you know
