Thank you Christopher. I was able to connect a few records and discover 3 marriages of the 4 children I didn't know. There are a possibility of several more children missing. Pedro Rodriguez de Loaiza (I) record ID in Familysearch is the following L2MY-V1B. Thanks again for your help.
I'm wondering if there is anyone in the forum that has any information on Nicolas Ponce, also known as, Nicolas Simon Rodriguez Ponce and his wife Antonia Jimenez.
Chris,
I have an ancestor named Juana Rodriguez Ponce married to Joseph Ornelas,
she might be related to your Rodriguez Ponce. The names of her parents are
Bartolome Rodriguez Bajo and Teresa Rodriguez

Hi Danny,
Thanks for the information. Bartolome Rodriguez Bajo and Teresa Ponce do fit the timeframe, and kind of make sense, as the parents of my Nicolas Ponce, I just don't have any proof. Teresa Ponce's father is Nicolas, so it would make sense that she would name a son Nicolas. Plus, my Nicolas named a daughter Teresa, which would also make sense, I just need to locate a record proving the connection. Thanks Danny.

I checked my index of Aguascalientes matrimonial investigations, which goes only to 1736, but unfortunately I did not find this couple.
George Fulton
Hi George,
Thanks for checking. The first child I can find of Nicolas Ponce and Antonia Jimenez is Teresa Ponce born in 1714 and baptized on 8 December 1714 in Teocaltiche, so they probably were married sometime around 1713 in Aguascalientes or Teocaltiche, but, I haven't been able to locate their marriage yet. I have other Rodriguez Ponce's in my tree and I was hoping to connect them all. Hopefully, I can locate the marriage soon.

Did you actually need the defunción or were you just trying to find out who the grandparents are? Because the baptism of Crescencia tells who the grandparents are: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11545-145319-73?cc=1502404…
Crescencia is listed as the illegitimate daughter of Luz Romo and Maria del Refugio Rodriguez. Her paternal grandparents are listed as Ynocencio Romo and Gumesinda Olmos. Her maternal grandparents are listed as Gerbasio Rodriguez and Antonia Palos. The padrinos are Ramon Lopez and Juana Lopez

I already have a copy of my grandmother's baptismal records. Also all her ancestors all the way back to Diego Romo de Vivar. Since Crecencia died at such an early age I would like to know at what age my mother lost her mother and what was the cause of her death. But, thank you for taking the time to check on her records.

Hi Aurora,
Yeah, I thought you might be specifically looking for the defunción. I have lots of records of Romos in my files from Encarnación and Aguascalientes in the 18th and 19th century, I'll look and see if any of them might be connected to yours.

Everything seems to have changed in Family Search. I used to be able to forward a link to a certain image, but I don't know how to do that now. I did see something on the bottom of the image that might be the correct link:

Emilie,
Yay, the second link worked! Yes, you are correct. The document does state
that his first wife was Juana Micaela Basquez who died three years before
the date of this marriage and was in fact buried in San Miguel Ayuda. It
states that both are from Jalostitlan - Jose Rosalino from La Maravilla and
Francisco from Jerusalen (I assume these were the names of the ranchos or
haciendas). It also states her parents as being Antonio Diaz and Ana Juliana
Romo. It is not uncommon for a widower not to have parents listed, you need
to find the record for his first marriage or maybe the informaciones
matrimoniales for that information.

Glad it worked, Angelina,
I am so slow to pick up on the new things. I have been using FamilySearch since it went online, and I never knew all the things you can find on it. My adopted daughter was over here this afternoon, and she has only discovered FamilySearch recently but already she knows how to find things I never knew were there. She helped me find my marriage record from California on it, and it has the wrong date! Now I will have to contact Sacramento to tell them to change it to the correct date.
Thanks for the translation,

Hi Emile,
Yes, Jose Rosalino was previously married to Juana Micaela Vasquez. Juana Micaela was buried in San Miguel (San Miguel el Alto) which at the the time the town church was an affiliated church (ayuda de esta parroquia) of Jalostotitlan. Maria Francisca was from the ranch el Jerusalem, daughter of Antonio Diaz and Juliana Romo (both deceased at the time of the marriage).

Hello All,
I have seen it several times, and I have two possible explanations.
A very close relative of mine used to help his father who was in charge of their town's civil registry, and this person told me that at times, they knowingly recorded the wrong dates on purpose because the informants requested it that way for whatever reason. Not all civil registries worked like this, though, and some were very strict when recording dates.
Another possibility could be something similar to the story my mother and grandmother told me. My mom was born on August 28, and was baptized soon after that. My grandparents procrastinated a lot and did not go to the civil registry until months after the event. They found out that in that specific registry, if people recorded a birth more than 30 days late, they were charged a fine. I'm not sure how expensive it was, but in order to avoid that fine, my mom was registered as being born on September 28. Throughout her life, her official birth date was on September
I recently came across the civil birth certificate for a great uncle. It says he was born 19 May 1892. But his brother was born, according to his baptismal record, 10 May 1892. Sometimes this is such a headache. ;-p
Yes, some times, the civil registrations where until after the Revolution not that accurate (and to that we add that other
times neither the baptisms were), I've seen more cases around that time which coincides with the Revolution days, this is because many of the original records were lost, later in time people came back the civil register and gave the wrong dates, some times they were simply misunderstood, there were also hand-made copies done to rescue some documents in bad shape that ultimately led to many errors in the transcriptions. All in all I wouldn't dare to say that those mistakes are "common" but they do happened often in that period. On my on family I have been founding that many "facts" that we have taken for granted were rather incorrect, dates, ages, and names, even on my parents days that were the 40's.
If I would choose between the two documents I would go with the baptism, simply because peoples faith made that event more significant than going to the city hall

Hello,
Hello Cynthia,
I have Ana Ramirez de Mendoza married to Francisco Alvarez Tostado and thus parents of Maria Alvarez Tostado aka Alvarez de Nava based in part on the following.
The marriage dispensation for Ana Maria Delgadillo and Juan Antonio Moran de Ledesma describes the following family tree:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18411-65226-93?cc=1874591&wc…
1º doña Catalina Ramírez y doña Anna Ramírez hermanos
2º doña Antonia Hernández[Fernández de Rueda] y doña María Álvarez Tostado primos hermanos
3º Francisco Morán y don Juan Antonio Delgadillo primos segundos
4º don Juan Antonio Morán de Ledesma, pretenso y doña Anna María Delgadillo primos
The marriage record of Ana Maria Delgadillo's parents (Juan Antonio Delgadillo and Josefa de Trillo)states that Juan Antonio is vecino of Nochistlan and the parents as Juan Delgadillo and doña Maria Alvarez de Nava.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11756-162316-69?cc=1502404…
Thank you both for this information. I now have Petrona Delgadillo's birth records from Nov. 1706 in Nochistlan pg. 356 lower left image. Alvares & Tostado are listed as the padrinos. This is the same age given on her marriage record to Christobal Ximenes de Albarado in Dec. 1725/Jan 1726.

Thank you. I do not have that record. If this is the same person, did they record the gender incorrectly? It says Trinidad was male, but then it has the spouse listed as Cristobal.
Is Trinidad in your family tree as well?
Sorry, that should have said that I thought his parents were Cristoval Torres and TRINIDAD Morales not Teresa, but I think the document says they are his grandparents. Is that correct?
It is hard to read but this is what I understood:

You can view 1920 census at any Family History Center, otherwise you need an LDS account at Family Search (not an account as a member of the public), or with an Ancestry.com subscription to view from home.

Thank you Emilie and Alicia for this imformation. the question about the
candles makes me wonder about this paragraph from the old thread that
Armando wrote. when I have it translated with google translate it says
candles several times. So when they're talking about candles, that's not
right?

Danny and Emilie,
Notice that it says Lo de "velados" deriva del hecho de que se les cubría con el velo durante el rito.
That means that the term "velados" comes from the act of covering the couple in the veil during the rite. A velo is a veil and a vela is a candle.
Thank you Armando. I was reading it wrong.
Danny C. Alonso
I just found a notation that said, "no velaron porque tiempo prohibido"---what does that mean? Also, I thought velar was to light candles (velas)? Or is there another word for candles?

Emilie,
Tiempo prohibido or prohibited time refers to either the church's lenten
season or advent, lent is 6 weeks before Easter and Advent is 6 weeks
before Christmas.

Research Tips
It is important to note that Zacatecas was part of Nueva Galicia and thus the bishop for the state in prior to 1863, when the diocese of Zacatecas was erected, sat in Guadalajara. Because many church records in Zacatecas were destroyed during the Mexican Revolution, records in Guadalajara, particularly marriage dispensations can be pivotal in research.
It also sounds as if Toribio was Hacienda Toribio and not a town.
Additional info sent to you by e-mail.
Thank you for the information and for the e-mail. I'll look for the image that goes with the birth record for Maria Ysabel Moreno Hernandez and see is she might be a sibling.
I appreciate your effort.

Hello Nuestros Ranchos Forum,

Martel and his wife Mariana Morales.
Thank you Austin and Simona and Armando for all your help. this is very
interesting. I didn't realize all that territory was part of Mexico. I'll
have to find out how Mariana Morales and Miguel Matel were related or why
they required a dispensa.
Danny C. Alonso
Hi Danny,
The marriage received a dispensation, from the reading of the banns of marriage, and was granted by doctor don Francisco Verdin y Molina, bishop of the kingdom of Nueva Galicia & [Nuevo] Leon and the provinces of Nayarit and Californias. You will find similar language in the beginning of the records from the offices of the Guadalajara bishop (Sagrada Mitra de Guadalajara)
Austin Perez
As Austin stated, the dispensation was granted by doctor don Francisco Verdin y Molina, bishop of the kingdom of Nueva Galicia and [Nuevo] Leon and the provinces of Nayarit and Californias.
The bishop of Guadalajara and the bishop of the "reino de La Nueva Galicia y León y provincias del Nayarit y Californias" is one and the same.
Bishop Dr. D. Francisco Verdín y Molina was in Guadalajara from 12 April 1665 until 27 Nov 1673 when he became bishop of Michoacán.
The first part is an introduction of the person who states he is mandated the most holy ??? Dr. Francisco (Verdin?) y Molina ?? magistrate of the Reign of the New Spain and Leon mines of Natori? and California do marry by words of my order of the most holy roman catholic church Miguel Martel and Mariana Morales citizens of this jurisdiction and give dispensation.
(Now a dispensation needs to be found for these two)
The following is in Spanish taken from a web site Buenas Tareas. It speaks of how Mexico was divided in sections. Nueva Galacia Y Leon Mines of (Natori?) and California.

Hello Nuestros Ranchos Forum,
i'm looking for information on the parents, and especially the mother of,
Eugenio Lozano.
Hi Danny,
I can't help you with Petrona Gonzalez de Gardea, but I can help you with
Maria Duran. The link you posted is great, because Maria is a daughter I
didn't have for Andres Duran de Aguayo and Juana de la Ascension Vasquez de
Sandoval. Andres and Juana are both mentioned in Genealogia de Nochistlan
Antiguo Reino de La Nueva Galicia En El Siglo XXVII Segun sus Archivos by
Jose Luis Vazquez y Rodriguez de Frias. There are various libraries in the
US that have this book. Very few people have personal copies as it had very
few prints. Andres and Juana had eight documented children in this book. It
may be possible that Maria is Maria Theresa, the first daughter of Andres
and Juana, but if she isn't she would be the 9th child for Andres and
Juana.
As far as Andres Duran de Aguayo, his parents are Juan Ximon Duran Duque
and Regina de Aguayo Silva. Jose Luis' book suggest that Regina de Aguayo
Silva's parents are Diego De Aguayo (El Viejo) and Ysabel de Silva.
As for Juana de la

Thank you Juan for your help and the information. Thank you Chris. do you
know anything at all about Petrona Gonzalez de Gardea. i don't know
anything about her other than her name.
Danny C. Alonso
Hi Danny,
Joseph Lozano and Petrona González de Gardea are my 10th Great Grandparents, but, I really haven't done any research on this line. The only information I have is from the below two dispensas. I do remember a post a while back, possibly before you joined NR, where someone mentioned they had information on her and were going to start a thread, but, I'm not sure that ever happened. The below dispensa describes her as tresalva which suggests that one of her grandparents was probably indigenous. The apellidos she uses, Macias, Retamosa and Gardea, might be a clue who the other 3 grandparents are, but, I have no idea how she might connect to these families. Her husband was the son of Cristobal Lozano Martínez, who was the son of Cristobal Lozano Martínez and María de Isla. I originally had Joseph Lozano as the son of Cristobal Lozano Martínez and Mariana González de Gardea, but, it was suggested in previous posts that he was the natural born son of Cristobal Lozano Martínez, which

Many people get the terms confused because the velación is no longer practiced. The velación has to do with putting a band of white cloth (the vela) placed on the shoulders of the groom and the head of the bride as a sign of the union they acquired.
The Real Academia Española the following description -
velación2
A velorio or velatorio is watching of a deceased person's body overnight.
velatorio
Excuse me for mi bad english. In this case the exactly meaning for velar, velado, etc. is "pasar la noche despierto con el difunto, antes de ir a enterrarlo, ó cremarlo", being awake and not sleeping before to go cemetery or cremation.
As I understand it, the deceased is watched over by family and friends
prior to the funeral in what is known in english as a viewing or wake. A
velorio is the same thing. In essence velado means that they were watched
over prior to being buried and blessings at the funeral/burial taking
place.

Saludos.

The marriage record is on Ancestry.com. To find on Familysearch.org: click to records: Mexico, Michoacan, Zamora, marriages 1923-1930 Image# 593 of 698, page #073, entry# 119. I did a search with names and only Mexico, no specific state. Sometimes you have to just go for a wild search.

I'm not related, just helping out since Ancestry.com has had all these records and indexes for free. You may need to research all her family in order to try to connect with relatives. Search for brothers, sisters, and their respective families if possible. That's how I do it and I have had some luck with distant relatives from
Guanajuato, Mexico. Well, I didn't exactly get
thank you so much

Hi Arturo,
I'm replying to you directly and also via the list, just in case this helps anyone else too.
Most of the Mexican records I've come across at Ancestry are indeed duplicates of FamilySearch
In regards to using Anestry free 14 day free trial, it's really worth it. I use it whenever I'm stuck and need another avenue. I do put in my credit card and when my 14 free days are just about up, I cancel. So easy! No questions asked, and I've never been charged even at the eleventh hour. It's worth it for one little nugget of new info. Carol
I am also using FamilySearch for the most part. But I do use Ancestry.com for other searches. Yesterday I realized that the Civil Registry entries from 1901 - 1960s is indexed in Ancestry.com. This is a huge help - I don't have to look page by page like I do in FamilySearch for 20th Century searches.
It's a huge help to have this index and to be able to use as a source on your family tree page. I've never used familysearch as a citation source except in the comments section.
The only Ancestry.com records with digital images that I have come across are Civil Registration death records.
