Hi everyone!

I have been using the on line portal for LDS records on line. I do not have any guidance from the site, are there any user tips and guidelines? I have noticed I can sometimes find a name, but it will not come up on other attempts...is there a reason. Are the LDS files different? The pilot is a great tool.

Teocaltiche/Talpa De Allende
My primary research in this area has been the Rodriguez surname. I have been unable to find records beyond my paternal paternal great-grandparents: Mauro Rodriguez( Maria Nieves Velasco).

I have found all of my paternal great-uncles, but not my aunt Ysabel Rodriguez.

I have found the Velasco's in Talpa De Allende and was able to get back to the 1770's. I can hardly wait to visit this beautiful area. I have tried Nochistlan will zero hits. Do I need to try every jurisdiction nearby?

I too am doing research in Teocaltiche and the surrounding area (Rio Chico
hacienda, Jalostotitlan, Tepatitlan). Thus far I have documented my
ancestors back to Juana Maria Lozano Dias, born 17 Sep 1752 to Juan Miguel
Lozano and Lorenza Diaz. The baptismal record is from Nuestra Senora de Los
Dolores, Teocaltiche. I have been unable to locate records for Juan Miguel
Lozano, to confirm his baptism, marriage to Lorenza Diaz and his death.
This has been my brick wall. I would be happy to collaborate with anyone

I am so pleased with the response and research tips. I will look at Nochistlan and other locals mentioned to continue my search. Someone mentioned similar points and I found a hit in San Juan De Los Lagos.
Some family members had wifes from Nochistlan surnamed Rosas and Luna. They all immigrated to the US about 1917. The families first settled in Peachsprings, Arizona and then permanently in Needles, CA. Ofcourse over time the first generation has passed away and most descendants now live in other parts of California, Nevada and Arizona and Washington state.
Thank you all so much, this is so much fun!

Hello,

in view of the high costs of obtaining this work - and the extensive time and effort it will take to research the several volumes - would anyone on the list be willing to split the cost with me? If you live in northern California (or Nevada), we could make arrangements to share both the cost and the books themselves. Please contact me if so.

Juana and Joseph's daughter Efigenia married my paternal Gonzalez ancestor (Alejo Gonzalez) in Tlaltenango 1722. In the marriage and marriage bann records, however, Alejo used "Covarrubias" as his last name for some reason.

How did you find out that Nicolas Llamas was from Guanajuato?

Dear George,

The Vallalpando (Flores Villalpando) branch from Valle de Guadalupe/ Tepatitlan / Ayo el Chico / Arandas leads to ciudad Manuel Doblado, Guanajuato. From there I believe it leads to Tomas son married to a Flores that you posted . I don't recall whether you had them marrying in Aguascalientes or Guanajuato.

The other branch from Valle de Guadalupe / jalostotitlan/ Teocaltiche /Zacatecas was the one you helped me connect to Aguascalientes.

Since both branches left descendants in Valle de Guadalupe where two couples of the same names (Casillas-Villalpando are married in the same year there has been great confusion as which of these two couples are the parents of Francisco Casillas Villalpando. It was only through a document from Claudias dispenses, and real estate records of inheritance that the issue was finally resolved.

I am bringing this same confusion to the "established Romo de Vivar lineage". People that want to stay with the established lines will just ignore

A few months ago, a nuestroranchos member mentioned that court records show that Petronila is named in the litigation over inheritance, which confirms she is one of the "other five vaguely referenced in the Codex Chimalpahin. I have not seen those records. They spoke of more than one record.

I do not have a reference or citation to a specific document, or group of documents. I was hoping that the person that had stated this information would speak up and identify where we could find this information.

I would like to hear your opinion on Guillermo Tovar de Teresa's statements regarding the Romo de Vivar / Rangel ancestors..

You have seen only one document that names Martin Navarro and Petronila de Moctezuma. I have seen two. Besides the Bartolome Rodriguez Bajo dispensation there is the document that I saw in the west Los Angeles Mormon Library that I can no longer find.

The other documents that name Petronila but the nuestroranchos member did not mention Martin being in those

It is very hard to have a meaningful opinion on this ancestry. There are no citations to accessible documents (note that I posted a request for a scan of Diego Romo de Vivar's baptismal record, but I have not had a response) that I have seen. Posted genealogies with their ancestry are undocumented, thus are not much value.

Without evidence to review, any opinion is simply speculation.

The problem is that most people, over 99 %, just repeat what genealogists have stated over the years. I myself continue to have the traditional dates and people as the parents in my family tree but I do add notes that there are a couple of points that should be addressed before stating that they are 100 per cent confirmed.
First Sr. Teresa de Tovar stated that he had a lot of proof showing a different Rangel tree. The second point is that in the records that show the officials of the inquisition there is a Diego Romo de Vivar from the same time frame as our Diego de Vivar but his parents have different names. Either our Diego Romo de Vivar was not an official of the inquisition as the genealogists have stated or there is an error in the records. If our Diego Romo de Vivar was not a member of the inquisition than Guillermo Teresa de Tovar statements regarding him being deeply involved in the silver mines, and the different Rangel ancestry makes more sense. Since Guillermo

Couldn't our Diego Romo de Vivar have also been working for the Inquisition

Danny C. Alonso

Comentario

Dear Danny,

Yes, our Diego Romo de Vivar could have been both a member off the inquisition and worked extensively in the mines. But if he was in the inquisition, then he should have been in the book that recorded all the officials of the inquisition in Mexico. If he was an official of the inquisition, and he was the one listed in the records, then he has different parents than the ones that everyone claims. If he was not an official of the inquisition, and he was the Diego Romo de Vivar that worked in the mines then he had a wife that was surnamed Rangel but had different parents then the ones listed. There are two Diego Romo de Vivars with two spouses with the Rangel surname apparently. Since the wives have different parents and the husbands have different parents we must identify them as two separate couples. Then we must identify the correct couple that is the ancestor to our Romo de Vivar line. It seems that either everyone has the wrong husband or the wrong wife listed as

Comentario

Dear George,

In my book on my Romo de Vivar family I do provide a citation to the record naming a Diego Romo de Vivar as an official to the inquisition. I would like to clarify Señor Teresa de Tovars claims before I publish this book since I need clarification on the Rangel branch of the family. Also research into Señor Teresa' de Tovars claims will be needed to support my claims since everyone takes the information that is out there for granted. His research should confirm my claims that the two Diego Romo de Vivars are being confused with one another and once this acknowledgement is made than we can look to separate the two individuals and indent iffy the correct one. Sr. Teresa de Tovar himself took for granted Diego Romo de Vivar and only questioned, and identified, different parents for the wife. He never questioned if There was another Diego Romo De Vivar that was our ancestor. But his statements only renewed my confusion over the inquisition records which state different

Comentario

Dear George,

You asked if anyone had a copy of Diego Romo de vivar's baptismal record. Don't worry about finding that record. Many genealogists have traveled to Toledo to look up this record. They have found a record of a Diego Romo de Vivar with the parents that everyone has. The question is not who his parents are. The question should be "which Diego Romo de Vivar is our ancestor?"

If genealogists knew that our ancestor was named Diego Romo De Vivar and that he was from Rielves, proceeded to go to Rielves to search for a Diego Romo de Vivar born about 1590, and then found a record of one born in 1589 in Rielves they must have jumped for joy as they learned his parents names. The question is did they find the right Diego Romo de Vivar. I have confirmed that the other Diego Romo de Vivar was an official of the inquisition, but they may have overlooked his baptismal record as his record would show his father's name as Perez de Vivar and not Romo. His mother is the one

do you know if our Diego Romo de Vivar was in Chihuahua and which death
date is right?

Danny C. Alonso

Comentario

Hi Danny,

Yes, our Diego Romo de Vivar did own property in Chihuahua and travelled extensively to the northern territories of Mexico. Also, he couldn't have died in any of those years since he was still purchasing property in 1658. And, when his wife, María Rangel died in 1659, he was also still alive:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11773-147776-25?cc=1502404…

Here is a record of the death of one of his indigenous servants named Ana in 1662 who is listed as being from Sonora. Her husband is listed as being from Sinaloa. The record is proof of Diego Romo de Vivar's travels to northern Mexico:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11773-145260-58?cc=1502404…

Below that is probably the defuncion for his daughter in law, Luisa de los Ángeles de los Reyes, who was married to his son, also named Diego Romo de Vivar.

Diego Romo de Vivar was getting fairly advanced in age when his wife died

Comentario

I reread the section on Diego Romo de Vivar in Retoños de España en La Nueva Galicia 2011 by Mariano González Leal.

Here is some information found in it:

He states that the Romo, Vivar, Rincón, and Agüero are from Toledo.

In 1795 he profoundly studied records found in the Archivo Histórico Nacional de Madrid that relate to those families. Rielves has one of the best conserved records which start in 1573 and in 1574 the records the records show several Romo families enormously extended throughout the jurisdiction and there are various branches of this lineage.

Dear Armando,
I have many questions on both Diego Romo de Vivar and Maria Rangel.
Where is the evidence that our Diego Romo de Vivar is the one that is baptized in 1589?
Why the different ancestries on Maria Rangel?
Why the different dates of death?
If he is an official of the inquisition where is limpieza de Sangre?
How is it that our Diego romo de Vivar is found all over Mexico from Northern Mexico, to Aguacalientes, and to Mexico City without mention of the other Diego Romo de Vivars?
A couple of years ago a professional genealogist in Spain stated that our Diego romo de Vivar descended from a Diego Romo de Vivar married to a Catalina Ponce de Leon. This genealogist even provided their parents. I tossed this information aside but now that you bring it up I believe it is now relevant to our discussion. Now that you connect Catalina Ponce de Leon to our Mexican Inquisitor Diego Romo de Vivar (Diego Perez de Vivar Romo) there is even more reason to dig deeper into these questions

Comentario

oops I posted this with no subject so I have to bring it over here.

Armando,

I have sort of the same question of Mr. Ricci, but I noticed on several
peoples different trees they have Diego Perez De Vivar and Catalina Ponce
De Leon as the Grandparents of our Capitan Diego Romo De Vivar like these
peoples

http://www.paginasprodigy.com.mx/glezgo/familiago/pafg61.htm#203

Could the people thats mentioned in pares as a person from the inquisicion
be the grandparents of our Capitan Diego Romo De Vivar?

Danny C. Alonso

Comentario

No, he is not the grandfather, he is a contemporary of the time frame we have for our ancestor. He is in Mexico. Unless someone can show evidence to the contrary, he is the pacificador de los Indios. He is the Diego Romo de Vivar with a limpieza de Sangre. Placing him as the grandfather is a way of not disrupting the lines that everyone follows.

And yes he could have been involved in the mines, but he is the only one that is an inquisitor, and our ancestor is identified as an inquisitor. The identification of our Diego Romo de Vivar as an inquisitor has to be a mistake if we keep saying that he is the Diego Romo de Vivar born in 1589 in Rielves.

I don't mind if someone proves this wrong, let's see the evidence.

Rick A. Ricci

Mr. Ricci,

I looked at the information Armando posted and it seems to be proof that
your person and our Diego Romo De Vivar are different people. it doesn't
seem there's really any evidence to suggest he is the same person. the
stuff on the internet and google books show lots of information on our
Diego Romo De Vivar and most of them show him buying property in
Aguascalientes and Chihuahua and pacifying Indians and being at the Mines
in Durango but nothing about the inquisition. Plus your person doesn't seem
to be called Diego Romo de Vivar, he seems to be called Diego Perez de
Vivar according to Pares and this site

Dear Rick,

No one has his death record for our Diego Romo de Vivar nor have they reported to have seen it. We only know when he was alive. On 26 Mar 1658 he purchased la hacienda El Rincón so he was definitely alive then. The death record of his wife María Rangel 19 June 1659 does not say she was a viuda so the assumption is that he was still alive then also. The record that Christopher shared with us showed that he had Chichimeca servants from Sonora and Sinaloa in 24 Nov 1662. We still need the record from 1666 that don Mariano González Leal implied existed to determine that he was alive at that time also.

Since our Diego Romo de Vivar was still married to María Rangel in 1659 and their first son Joseph was baptized 30 June 1625 in San Felipe, Gto then we know that they were married the entire time from 1625 to 1659. Therefore, he could not be the Diego Pérez de Vivar that submitted his genealogical information in 1629 since Diego Pérez de Vivar was married to Catalina Ponce de

I agree that Diego Romo de Vivar and Diego Perez de Vivar are not likely the same person if Diego Perez de Vivar is already married to Catalina Ponce. I did not realize that this Diego Perez de Vivar is the same one married to Catalina Ponce, my recollection was that she was from earlier in the 1500s and was married to a Diego Perez de Vivar with different parents. My records don't show him as being married to her.

What I am not sold on is that our Diego Romo de Vivar is the same one as the one born in 1589. The third Diego Romo de Vivar that George Fulton brought up as arriving in Mexico also fits the time frame and arrives with family. I am looking for the evidence that shows that our Diego Romo de Vivar is the one born in 1589, came over to Mexico and was an official of the inquisition. I have not found thAt evidence and wonder why. The claim that he was an official of the inquisition did require a limpieza de Sangre if they followed their rules so your

Dear Rick,

You continually post about your records but you rarely cite sources, dates, or what information is contained in them. It looks like your information is the same that some other people have that is without primary sources and has the wrong genealogy. Any genealogy that has Catalina Ponce as an ancestor has the wrong genealogy because the only document that mentions her as being part of a Romo family is the one that is for Diego Pérez de Vivar.

George Fulton did not bring up a third Diego Romo de Vivar as arriving in Mexico. That Diego Romo doesn’t use the surname Vivar and he went to Peru. Diego Pérez de Vivar was the one that submitted his genealogy to be an inquisitor. There is only one Diego Romo de Vivar which is the one we descend from. You are confusing very simple facts.

You are the only one that is claiming that our Diego Romo de Vivar was an official of the inquisition. Mariano González de Leal never did and Jaime Holcombe Isunza never did. That’s because it was

When I looked for Diego Romo de Vivar in PARES some time ago, I did not find anything; so I then looked for Romo. A number of records come up, and I went through the whole list.

There are a few Romo's from Rielves, and I asked, through a posting at NR, if anyone knew if there was a connection between these Romo families and our Romo de Vivar. None of these records were digitized. Daniel offered an opinion that there may be or could be a relationship, but it was only an opinion.

Can anyone cite a primary reference that connects Diego Romo de Vivar in Mexico to Rielves in Castille?

I know that sometimes compound names are not always used in full - I've seen this with the Macias Valades and Ruis de Esparsa. Thus these Romo's may be Romo de Vivar, but that is only speculation at this point.

The Rielves church records are not listed in the Family History Library catalog; it seems that few Spanish church records are available at Family Search. Thus, we must rely on secondary sources.

Danny,

Instead of using the site http://www.archivesportaleurope.net for records from Spain it is best to use the site http://pares.mcu.es/ParesBusquedas/servlets/Control_servlet?accion=100 where you can see more information directly from the Spanish portal.

Put the following in:

Buscar: Diego Pérez de Vivar
Fecha desde: 1629
Signatura: INQUISICIÓN,1222,Exp.12

Then click on Buscar at the bottom. Then click Consejo de Inquisición then click Informaciones genealógicas de Diego Pérez de Vivar y de Catalina Ponce de León, su mujer

In this case the only extra information is Informaciones genealógicas de Diego Pérez de Vivar, natural de México, pretendiente a familiar del Tribunal de la Inquisición de la citada ciudad, y de su mujer Catalina Ponce de León, natural de Huehuetlán (México) but other times the extra information will be more and at times you can see digital copies of documents.

Danny,

Mariano González Leal traveled to Spain in 1975 to view the records at the Archivo Histórico Nacional de Madrid. I had also mentioned that in the post titled Diego Romo de Vivar in Retoños de España.

Comentario

Danny,

The reason those people have Diego Pérez de Vivar and Catalina Ponce de León Fernández de Castañeda as the grandparents of our Capitán Diego Romo de Vivar is because they copied a genealogy that someone confused the limpieza de sangre of 1629 for Diego Pérez de Vivar as being for the grandfather of our Diego Romo de Vivar which is exactly what Rick Ricci seems to be doing. Notice that they don't cite sources for their work either.

Our Diego Romo de Vivar stated on 30 Oct 1620 that he was 33 years old. We know that in those days people couldn't remember their exact age so it shouldn't be taken literally but as a guide to the age within a few years. This would make Diego Pérez de Vivar too young to be the grandfather of our Diego Romo de Vivar since a grandfather of a person that was 42 years old in 1629 would be too old to be an inquisitor or not even alive in most cases.

The limpieza de sangre from 1629 has Diego Pérez de Vivar as being married to Catalina Ponce de León and

The baptismal record for Joseph Romo de Vivar, in San Felipe (GTO), 30 Jun 1625, is at this address: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1951-20567-22048-90?cc=1860831…

The record is difficult to read, and it is in the volume Family Search labeled as "Bautismos de castas 1600-1672," at image 120, in the church of San Felipe Apostol, San Felipe, Guanajuato. I believe the record reads as follows:

In the margin: Joseph - Espanol

"en veinta del mes de Junio de mil seis cientos y veinte y sinco bautise a Joseph hijo de diego romo de vibar y maria Rengel vecinos de s miguel fue [or fue su?] pedrino pedro Garcia de [illegible]"

There are two other baptisms as part of the same record (the signature follows the third baptism).

The second baptism is "Franco hijo de Franco [surname illegible] y de Juene" in which Diego Romo de Vivar is named as the padrino. The third baptism, Ysabel, seems to have the same parents as Franco (Francisco?), and is

Comentario

For the baptism of Joseph Romo de Vivar after San Miguel it should be gr for Grande but for some reason the tail is inverted. San Miguel Allende was called San Miguel El Grande prior to the independence of Mexico.

On the line after San Miguel gr it does say "fue su pedrino Pedro Garcia de" and it looks like Herrera after that.

For the third baptism this is what I think it says:

"el mesmo dia mes y año bauticé a Ysabel hija de
Francisco otomí y Juana, fue su madrina
Mencia naturales de el Miguel Grande"

Since pedrino should be padrino and madrine should be madrina then we can tell the priest uses the letter e where a should be or writes e likes a at times. So Juene is actually Juana.

Thank you for help with reading this record.

Since I did the above post, I noted that this film has been extracted, but the folks that did it had trouble with the handwriting as well. "Romo de Vibar" is extracted as "Romo de Ibar" and they also missed Francisco's surname.

George Fulton

Comentario

George,

You're welcome. In their defense it does not say "Vibar" it does look more like "Ibar" and if they weren't familiar with this family they had no way to understand what the priest meant to write. He had horrible handwriting and sometimes skipped letters such as one letter for Vibar and San for San Miguel. The other priest has legible handwriting, dots the i, the a and e are easily distinguishable, and he doesn't use mesmo for mismo.

Mesmo was a more ancient way of saying mismo which comes from medipsĭmus from vulgar latin. It's still used in some rural places of Mexico.

You may also want to double check the other listings for death records in case there is an entry error. I personally have found death records under marriages in other Jalisco records. Good luck.

GREAT FIND CARLOS!!

I'd like to add, as far as I know, the "Guadalcanal" pedigree is based on one document, which would be the aforementioned Ordenes of a great-grandson of Juan GdeH and Maria Munoz: limpiezas de sangre are NOT infallible. I recently debunked a 1651 prueba de nobleza for Geronimo Magdaleno Salceda, when this one joined the Orden de Santiago; his limpieza gives a pedigree for the Magdaleno's of Valladolid/Morelia, that totally contradicts every other document I've found at PARES and FamilySearch. After further research, I discovered that there was an industry for forged pedigrees, due to the fact that many had conversos in their immediate lines. The downside to this is, since 1651, many historians and genealogists have since used that document to establish the pedigree of the Magdaleno's of Valladolid.

That said: we need to find more documentation to support the Guadalcanal pedigree! GREAT WORK, CARLOS!

I want to share what I was able to "read" from the mentioned "Confirmación de Oficio"

It starts on apr-20th-1606 and is made by request of Francisco González de Hermosillo who declares that he´s been "escriviente" for over 10 years. The first lines were the most difficult for me to read and I read only small pieces like :

Then Francisco refers to another informacion made by his brother Juan González de Hermosillo 9 years earlier:

What I understand of the mentioned document is that it is an "Información" that refers to other two previous "informaciones", and "gestiones"

Francisco González in 1606 declares to be 28 years of age and refers to another información made by his brother Juan in 1597.

In the información of 1597 is inmediately referred the previous información of 1584 that the father of Francisco and Juan El Mozo, called there Juan G de H El Viejo.

This Juan El Viejo gave Poder in 1583 to his cousin Francisco Ramírez and his brother in law
Francisco de Silva ? vecinos de Guadalcanal to request the "Información de Limpieza..."

We see that a good number of witnesses is required in that informacion made in Guadalcanal in 1584.

Later in the document we see the witnesses presented in 1597 in Mexico City that were "naturales" of Guadalcanal and that for that reason are able to testify about this family.

One of the important points of the document (I think) is the fact that the three sisters of Juan G de

Your theory still doesn't fit and the theory that Sergio Gutiérrez first proposed is the one that does fit. Since Juan González de Hermosillo y Sánchez Parra was in Mexico City with a wife and children from 1558 through 1597 then he was not in Guadalcanal in 1581 through 1582 with wife and children when the brother of our Juan González de Hermosillo sent for him on 12 October 1581.

The first child of Juan González de Hermosillo y Sánchez Parra and Ana Rodríguez de Madaleno was Leonor and she was baptized 15 June 1559 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-9758-14029-44

These are two different families. They are probably related due to the fact that they both use the García Hermosillo and González de Hermosillo surnames and they are all originally from Guadalcanal. But Juan González de Hermosillo y Sánchez Parra and the Juan González de Hermosillo married to María Muñoz are two different people.

Hola familia,

Regarding "Alonso" being part of the surname, as opposed to the given name:

I went back and looked at my notes, to see what led me to this conclusion, and there's enough material to make a convincing case, specifically, the 29 Dec 1666 confirmations for Melchor Gonzalez de Hermosillo and his brother, Sebastian, sons of Diego Alonso & Luisa de Nava, on which they are listed as "Melchor Alonso" and "Sebastian Alonso" (right image, their sister Maria Gonzalez is also listed):

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-19046-22796-47?cc=1874591&wc…

That was in Teocaltiche, by the way. This shows us that children other than the Diego's used "Alonso." Also, the Spanish children on this page are listed with their surnames, therefore establishing "Alonso" as a possible surname for this branch (if you look in the left image, you'll see Andres Alonso, son of another Diego Alonso and Francisca Sanchez. He's probably an Hinojos, anyone?).

Btw, looking at the 29 Dec 1666 Confirmaciones en Teocaltiche: I misread the Andres Alonso entry: Francisco Sanchez is the padrino, the mother isn't listed. This is likely Andres Munoz de Hermosillo.

Danny,

We need to be careful with speculating on the family of either Gonzalo García de Hermosillo.

First of all, we don't have any documentation that our Gonzalo Garcia de Hermosillo was ever in Mexico. Since we descend from the Juan González de Hermosillo that went to Mexico in 1582 all we have is the letter by his brother Gonzalo García de Hermosillo asking for Juan González de Hermosillo, his wife, and children to be given a license to go to Mexico from Guadalcanal, Spain and the subsequent license. It states that the father of Juan González de Hermosillo is Gonzalo García Hermosillo. Lookup Juan González de Hermosilla and INDIFERENTE,2060,N.138 in the Búsqueda Avanzada at http://pares.mcu.es. The father is named on page 5. We don't have the mother or grandparents of our Juan González de Hermosillo.

There was also a Juan de Hermosillo from Burgos, son of Alonso de Hermosillo y de Catalina González, that went to Mexico in 1515. The license for passage is at http://pares.mcu.es CONTRATACION,5536,L.1,F.406(1)

For a long time many thought that Juan de Hermosillo was the ancestor of the Juan González de Hermosillo that married Ana Rodríguez Magdaleno but the CONFIRMACION DE OFICIO: FRANCISCO HERMOSILLO from 1607 MEXICO,177,N.58 shows that they aren't related, at least not in the way they once thought they were. This is relevant to this thread, because her albaceas were her brother-in-law, Diego Alonso de Hermosillo (m. Luisa de Nava), and Pedro de Guelbes. Since Beatriz had no descendants, the patronage of this capellania passed down through the descendants of Diego Alonso and Luisa de Nava, through their son, Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo (m. Paige,

No, it isn't certain but additional proof would be needed, but there are no records whatsoever that I, or Manny, can find that show Diego Alonso del Pedroso ever used the Ramírez surname, as Manny had pointed out. In order to make that assumption we would need to find a document that does that. Unfortunately, most documents from Jalostotitlán from that period no longer exist. Supposedly they were lost in a fire. There is a book by Sergio Gutiérrez with the padrón from 1650 you can buy at Amazon that supposedly has Diego Alonso del Pedroso with his wife and six of seven of his children. Search for Jalostotitlán at Amazon to find it. Another record to search for is a Cofradía from 1627. Until then the Ramírez surname should be taken off of Diego Alonso del Pedroso because otherwise it is a presumption. Yes, descendants of Diego Alonso could've used Muñoz as descendants of María Muñoz but there are no indications whatsoever that he ever did so his descendants that did use it was

I'm trying to determine what is the correct origin of the González de
Hermosillo. Elsewhere on the forum I've see this:

· Pedro Fernández de Hermosilla
· Alonso de Hermosilla casó a Catalina González hija de Tomás González
· Juan González de Hermosillo c Catalina Ramírez
· Juan González de Hermosillo c Isabel de Escobar hija del Conq. Juan de
Burgos
· Juan González de Hermosillo. Casó a María Muñoz Cabeza de Vaca hija de
Francisco Muñoz y de aquí nació la línea alteña.
Then it seemed as though Juan González de Hermosillo and Ana Rodríguez
Magdaleno were agreed upon as the parents of the Juan González de
Hermosillo that married María Muñoz. But lately, I've seen several websites
list Gonzalo García de Hermosillo as the origin of our González de
Hermosillo.

Since, my Diego Ildefonso Ramírez de Hermosillo uses Ramírez, it makes
sense that the line would travel through Catalina Ramírez and Juan González
de Hermosillo, but I don't know.

Is there anyone in the forum that has a theory

Hi Paige, My name is Robert Gonzalez, I am a direct descendent of Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo, he and Maria Munoz are my 10th great grandparents.

All the research I've done as of late shows Gonzalo Garcia de Hermosillo as Juan's father. ( And a brother of the same name )

I've been working with a very nice gentleman from Spain who is helping me with such questions, but it's been slow going. As you may be aware, Juan was from Guadalcanal, perhaps some of the confusion comes from the origins of the de Hermosilla line. It appears (at the moment ) that the family origins are indeed from the province of Burgos, specifically Ona\Briviesca, of which Hermosilla is a part of. Before of course they made their way south to Guadalcanal. I don't want to jump the gun and give bad info, I need to sort out names and dates, but the line may include members of the military orders of Santiago and the so called Caballeros de Banda de Castilla. I've come across spelling variations, Gunsaliz,Gonzalis

Hi Paige,

There’s been some confusion regarding the origin of the Gonzalez de Hermosillo who proliferated throughout Nueva Galicia. As Robert mentioned, it’s been determined that the line originated with Juan Gonzalez de Hermosilla & Maria Muñoz, from Guadalcanal, Sevilla, and he was the son of Gonzalo Garcia de Hermosilla.

Here’s a link to one discussion on that topic: views:http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/19948

If you descend from the Diego Alonso’s, then the “Ramirez” probably comes from Nicolas Ramirez, whose daughter Paula de Torres married Diego Alonso del Pedroso y Hermosillo. Their offspring used “Ramirez de Hermosillo.” There were 5 Diego Alonso’s, in a direct line, here’s the first four:

Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo & Maria Muñoz m. Guadalcanal, Sevilla antes de Extremadura, España.

Paige,

As Robert and Manny have told you, the paternal line of the González de Hermosillo line in Jalisco, which also spread to nearby Aguascalientes and Zacatecas, begins with Juan González de Hermosillo and María Muñoz from Guadalcanal, Sevilla which is now part of Andalucía, España. The father of Juan González de Hermosillo was Gonzalo García de Hermosillo based on a combination of two different documents that Sergio Gutiérrez very kindly commented on in two different threads pointing out the proof. Manny provided the link to one of those threads which is the one I had on Ana Rodríguez Magdaleno. So you don't have to go looking for it again the link is http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/19948

The reason for me posting this information is so you can understand how those documents prove the ancestry and where in that thread the proof is found even though the full thread is good to have and understanding of how and when the actual genealogy was fully understood by us.

Armando, Manny, Robert,

That was an exhaustive amount of information that clearly proves the

Do we know who this Juan is or how he's connected to our González de

No, we don't know. The fact that he had the same name and assumed to be living in the same time period in Mexico caused people to think that he was the one that was the patriarch of the lineage in Los Altos. In reality they weren't both living in Mexico the whole time. Our Juan González de Hermosillo was living in Spain since his birth sometime before 1562 and 1582. We don't know what happened to the Juan González de Hermosillo born in Mexico City on 8 July 1571.

If you notice in my thread I had provided to you previously at http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/es/node/19948 I ask about Ana Rodríguez Magdaleno, the wife of Juan González de Hermosillo. That is the exact same couple that are the parents of the one that you have a link to in your post. Also, in my post on 2011-10-04 at http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/es/node/19948 I answered Daniel that Guillermo Tovar de Teresa had the parents of Juan González de Hermosillo as Juan González de Hermosillo y Ana Rodríguez Magdaleno (o Madaleno o Ana Hernández) and that he thought that Juan González de Hermosillo was from Guadalcanal based on his post at http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/18947#comment-19622

It wasn't until Sergio's post that I understood that they were different people. In that post he says "Si Juan Glz de Hermosillo es originario de Guadacanal, segun las declaraciones en el documento, como es posible que el haya sido bautizado en Mexico DF en 1572. Creo son homologos y no la misma persona."

Which mean "If Juan Glz de Hermosillo is originally from Guadalcanal, per the declarations in the document, how is it possible that it is the same person that was baptized in 1572. I believe they are of the same name but not the same person."

I understand now. I was a little confused. I had previously read some of
the earlier posts but wasn't quite sure who was being referred to. Also, I
erroneously assumed, that since Juan González de Hermosillo born July 8th,
1571 used the same compound surname that he must be connected to our line.

I had mentioned about some of the Hermosillos use of Ramírez and where that
might have originated from and there was a mention earlier on the
thread about Ramírez coming through Paula de Torres, but, doesn't Paula de
Torres' husband Diego Alonso del Pedroso also occasionally use Ramírez,
which would suggest it originates earlier on the Hermosillo line?

Paige,

I just realized that there is a marriage record that has important information. Diego Alonso del Pedroso and Paula de Torres had a son that also went by Diego Alonso. He married Luisa Muñoz de Nava 23 Feb 1645 in Teocaltiche and the padrinos were none other than Alonso Ramírez and Paula de Torres. https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-19053-2338-11

So now we have a document that show that Diego Alonso del Pedroso married to Paula de Torres did actually use the Ramírez surname, as has been stated by other researchers, and therefore, the use of the Ramírez surname isn't necessarily due to the surname of the father of Paula de Torres.

Unfortunately, there aren't any baptisms of the children of Diego Alonso del Pedroso and Paula de Torres to see which surname he uses in those records. There is also no baptismal, marriage, or death/burial record of Diego Alonso del Pedroso to see which surname was used in those records. None of the other children of Diego Alonso del Pedroso

You know, Armando, I thought the same thing, that their padrinos were his parents. But lately, I'm thinking the madrina, Paula de Torres, might be Diego II's sister. who died a spinster, 18 Oct 1668, in Jalostotitlan:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18450-50208-85?cc=1874591&wc…

I don't know who Alonso Ramirez is.

Here's my take, on the name:

Note, in the header of that marriage record, he is listed as "Diego Alonso" and she as "Luisa de Nava," while in the body, he is listed as "Diego Alonso de Hermosillo." The same formula is used for their son's marriage to Juana Alderete:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-19053-3066-6?cc=1874591&wc=M…

From the few primary source documents I've seen (I have none for the 1st), the Diego's are usually listed as "Diego Alonso de Hermosillo," or just "Diego Alonso." I haven't seen them listed as "Diego de Hermosillo," so "Alonso" is the logical surname, and only the Diego's

Manny,

After going back over Retoños de España Tomo VI Volumen 2 pg. 732 it does say in the first paragraph that the Ramírez de Hermosillo surname was taken up due to the marriage of a member of the González de Hermosillo family marrying a daughter of the Ramírez family.

I had concentrated on the Retoños de España Tomo VI Volumen 2 pg. 733 where it states Paula de Torres married "Diego Alonso Ramírez del Pedroso, conocido también con los apellidos González de Hermosillo y del Pedroso y Hermosillo hijo de Juan González de Hermosillo y de María Muñoz, vecinos de la jurisdicción de Jalostotitlán" I had expected Mariano González Leal to have mentioned that the surname Ramírez started with his sons and not with him in that portion if that was the case. However, as I had stated above the first paragraph in on pg. 732 clarifies that it did start with the sons. It sure is strange that Mariano decided to mention he had an alias that included the surname Ramírez when it's the surname given to

I´m also a descendant of Juan González de Hermosillo and have been trying to clarify the ascendants of Juan while with no succes, but at least I have a theory that I would like you to see.

Looking through GENI and some other sites and complementing with PARES information, some other nodes of this forum and even with Wikipedia, I would propose the following:

Pedro Fernández de Hermosillo born around 1440 who was the father of

Alonso de Hermosillo born around 1465, who married Catalina González around 1485 that´s where the compound last name begins.

This couple is mentioned in the document of 1515 of Juan Gonzáles de Hermosillo to come to Indias where he states to be 20 years old, so he was born around 1495.

For now I suppose that this Juan González de Hermosillo married Catalina Ramírez del Pedroso around 1518 and that they had the folowing children :

Gonzalo González García de Hermosillo bca 1520 married ca1550 Isabel Escobar
Diego González

Comentario

Carlos,

The genealogy you posted is the incorrect genealogy. That is what my posts have been about. The person that married María Muñoz was married and living in Guadalcanal, Spain in 1582 when Gonzalo García Hermosillo asked to bring his brother. He could not have been born 8 Julio 1571 en Cd de Mexico to Juan González de Hermosillo and Ana Rodriguez de Madaleno. This was pointed out by Sergio Gutiérrez and it is also pointed out by in the 2011 edition of Retoños de España Tomo IV Vol. 1 pages 209-211.

Please reread my previous posts in this thread and the links contained in the posts and download the original documents so you can see that the genealogy you posted is the incorrect genealogy.

To clarify, if he was married and living in Guadalcanal, Spain in 1582 how could his paternal grandparents have been Gonzalo González García de Hermosillo bca 1520 married ca1550 to Isabel Escobar if the parents of Gonzalo González García de Hermosillo bca 1520 were Juan González de Hermosillo

Comentario

Armando

I´ve seen all the previous posts and I agree that Juan González de Hermosillo the one who marries Ana María Muñóz IS NOT the son of Juan González de Hermosillo and Ana Rodríguez Magdaleno.

I´m saying ,based in the fact that we already know that the granfather of OUR Juan González was named Gonzalo González de Hermosillo, and that he must have been born around 1520, that this is THE GONZALO THAT MARRIED ISABEL DE ESCOBAR around 1550, and they were able to have:

Gonzalo GARCÍA DE HERMOSILLO bca 1550 (who asks permission for his brother Juan to come to America)
Juan bca 1555 who comes to America in 1582)

Now, I propose that the parents of the first Gonzalo González de Hermosillo were the conqueror Juan González de Hermosillo (who came in 1515) and Catalina Ramírez del Pedroso married ca 1518.

Besides Gonzalo González de Hermosillo they are the likely parents of :

Catalina GARCÍA HERMOSILLO born 1521 who married Diego Gavilán; Catalina García de Hermosillo would be then Aunt

Comentario

I made a mistake in one paragraph and the correct form should say :

Catalina GARCÍA HERMOSILLO born 1521 who married Diego Gavilán; Catalina García de Hermosillo would be then Aunt of GONZALO GARCÍA DE HERMOSILLO the brother of OUR Juan..........we must notice that they both USE THE LAST NAME "GARCÍA"

What is CLEAR about this last couple is that they ARE THE GRANDPARENTS of the BISHOP of Nueva Vizcaya : Gonzalo González de Hermosillo y Rodríguez Madaleno bca 1560, whose approval as bishop is dated 27-feb-1620 (PARES).

Comentario

Carlos,

Your hypothesis still does not fit with the information that we have. I will try and clarify why that is, without using caps.

First of all, we don't know what the name of the grandfather of OUR Juan González de Hermosillo was named. We only know that his father was named Gonzalo González de Hermosillo.

We know that our Juan González de Hermosillo was married with children in 1582 therefore he was married at least 20 months prior to 1582. Since most people marry past 18 years of old even back then he is at least 20 years old making his birth year between 1532 and 1562. Therefore, his father Gonzalo García de Hermosillo was born in Spain anywhere between 1500 and 1544.

That is all we know about our Juan González de Hermosillo. We don't have any idea who his mother was or who his grandparents were. There is absolutely no evidence that the "Gonzalo González de Hermosillo" that married Isabel de Escobar was the grandfather of our Juan González de Hermosillo. Asserting that is

I haven't had access to "Retonos," some day I need to make arrangements. I was totally unaware that Diego Alonso de Hermosillo also married Maria de Renteria y Orosco.

This is regarding the IV, Diego Yldephonzo Gonzalez de Hermosillo, who was married to Lorenza Manuela Cabrera:

I've found the following at Acervos Coloniales Siglos XVII A XIX (http://sigue.aguascalientes.gob.mx/axweb/):

On 20 Aug 1721, while living in Asientos, Aguascalientes, Diego Yldephonzo Gonzalez de Hermosillo and Lorenza Manuela de Cabrera sold el Puesto de Atenguillo, in Cuquio, Jalisco, to Alejo Plasencia (along with a lot in Cuquio), for 270 pesos. Atenguillo was owned by Lorenza Manuela's father, Antonio Cabrera, and they sold it on behalf of his heirs: Lorenza and her 2 brothers, Clemente Manuel Cabrera and Cayetano

I must be suffering from information overload because I've seen that
marriage of Diego Alonso Ramírez de Hermosillo and Luisa Muñoz before and
never noticed the padrinos were his parents. Or, individuals with similar
names. I don't know when the sister was born, so I couldn't say for sure. I
did however notice the margin just said Diego Alonso and did at one point
think that might be part of the surname. For whatever reason, I quickly
dismissed that idea.

Paige,

I am no longer considering the padrinos to be the parents, even though Paula could be the mother, since Retoños de España does say the the Ramírez surname was taken up by due to the marriage with Paula de Torres, which means her husband never actually used the surname.

Armando

Comentario

Armando,

Is it certain that Alonso Ramírez is not Diego Alonso Ramírez del Pedroso.
I was looking at the records and the couple Paula de Torres and Diego
Alonso Ramírez del Pedroso seem to fit as padrinos. Even if the Ramírez de
Hermosillo was created by the union of Paula de Torres and Diego Alonso
Ramírez del Pedroso, that doesn't eliminate the possibility that Diego
Alonso also could be a Ramírez. Just as the Muñoz González de Hermosillo
was created by the union of Luisa Muñoz de Nava and Diego Alonso González
de Hermosillo, but, in theory, Diego Alonso could've used Muñoz himself as
a descendant of María Muñoz.

Also because the names get confusing, I wanted to check something. I've
seen Luisa Muñoz de Nava married to both a Diego Alonso González de
Hermosillo and a Diego Ildefonso Ramírez de Hermosillo, are they the same
person?

Hi Paige,
I do believe the Paula de Torres mentioned is the wife of Diego Alonso del Pedroso. If you look at this site: http://gw.geneanet.org/sanchiz?lang=es&p=diego+alonso&n=ramirez+del+ped…; the younger Paula de Torres is listed as being born in 1643. Even If you just try to piece together when everyone was born based on their marriages and such and you look at all their children, including, Nicolás Ramírez de Hermosillo and Agustín García de Hermosillo that married the two Muñoz de la Barba sisters, and Juana Ramírez de Hermosillo that married Pedro Flores de la Torre, as well as, Diego Alonso himself that married Luisa Muñoz de Nava, I doubt the younger Paula de Torres, was born any earlier than 1640. My guess is she was too young to be madrina at a wedding in 1645. Therefore, I think the Paula de Torres mentioned is most likely the wife of Diego Alonso del Pedroso. As for the Alonso Ramirez mentioned, Armando would be better able to answer that.

Also, Diego Alonso González

I´m sorry I mixed terms in my proposal (not assertion), I meant to say that now is clear that the name of the father of OUR Juna González is Gonzalo, and then I (based on other websites) suggested that the wife of that Gonzalo was Isabel de Escobar Burgos.

Now I´ve seen that the husband of Isabel de Escobar was Juan Ramírez as you say is mentioned in "Retoños", but also in a very interesting "información" that the "Escobar" brothers raised in 1577 where they declare they are the children of Juan de Burgos and that they are poor in spite of their father being a "conquistador" who contributed largely to the conquest; the información explains that Juan de Burgos was owner of a Navío full of "bastimentos" with which he helped greatly to the conquest.

In that información is clearly mentioned the name of the husband of Isabel as Juan Ramírez.

I just found another very interesting document which I´m trying to read and is another INFORMACION asked by Francisco González de

Comentario

The información I just mentioned is a little bit confusing and I think the right name of the parents of Ana Rodríguez Magdaleno are Gonzalo Rodríguez Magdaleno and María Hernández.

I mean, on page 5 of the document those are the names mentioned, later in the same document it seems to me that they mix the names of the brother in law of Francisco González de Hermosillo (Juan Rodríguez de León married to Leonor G de H known as "de la Parra" ) with María Hernández.

Comentario

Armando

Precisely in the información I´m talking about, is attached an información that was previously gestioned by Juan González de Hermosillo (brother of Francisco)know there as "El Mozo" , son of Juan G de H and Ana R Magdaleno, that información was made "por poder" en la villa de Guadalcanal in 1584 and one of the two "apoderados" of Juan was Francisco Ramírez who is declared as "primo" of "El Mozo".

I have to correct the name of the grandfather of Francisco an Juan and now I clearly see that the correct name was Gonzalo García de Hermosillo.

I´m almost sure so far that this "Mozo" is the one that went to Nueva Galicia, and that he s not the same that was baptized on 1571 by the same parents because he couldn´t be doing that información in 1584 at 13 years of age; I think for some reason there´s another Juan in 1571 or the date is erroneous and should be 1541.

Comentario

My take on the document is changing continously as long as I read it.

Th informacion of Francisco was betweeen 1606 and 1607 but it contains another información made on 1584 and it was made on behalf of Juan González de Hermosillo "El viejo" not "El Mozo". It is so because the witnesses are questioned if they knew Gonzalo garcía de Hermosillo and Leonor Parra parents of Juan, and that Juan was born in Guadalcanal but is "vecino in 1584" of Mexico City.

Comentario

I´m not yet done with that "información" but so far I have the following :

Gonzalo García Hermosillo married Leonor Sánchez Parra and were the parents of

Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo born in Guadalcanal who travels to Mexico in 1582
and "por poder" asks an "información" to be made by his cousin Fco Ramírez 1584
this Juan marries ca 1558 Ana Rodríguez Magdaleno and thay have the following children :
Leonor 1559
Catalina 1561
Gonzalo 1562 (Bishop)
Juan 1571

Then in a second wedding in Nueva Galicia :

this Juan marries ca 1589 Ana María Muñóz and thay have the following children :

Regarding the padrinos of the marriage for Diego Alonso de Hermosillo and Luisa de Nava: as has been noted, we can't be sure that the padrinos, Alonso Ramirez and Paula de Torres, are the parents of the groom (Paula de Torres, still a possibility). I did an indexed search at FamilySearch for an "Alonso Ramirez" who'd fit the place & timeline, but nothing comes up in Teocaltiche, or early enough to consider. This will require sifting through the Teocaltiche and nearby parishes, to see if "Alonso Ramirez" appears anywhere else.

Manny,

I had abandoned the padrino Alonso Ramírez as also being the father of Diego Alonso de Hermosillo some time ago. He was probably a sibling or other relative of Paula de Torres. However, the dates are a better fit for the madrina being the mother of Diego Alonso de Hermosillo.

The Diego Alonso de Hermosillo that married Maria de Renteria y Orosco en segundas nupcias was the widower of Luisa Muñoz.

There isn't an Alonso Ramirez mentioned in Retoños de España as a sibling or other to Paula de Torres but there are lots of records missing so it is possible that he was a sibling to Paula de Torres.

Armando

Comentario

Christopher,

I agree that the Paula de Torres that died 18 Oct 1668 in Jalostotitlán would have been too young to have been a madrina at her brother's wedding in 1645, not just because of the date on Geneanet but also because the record states that she died a doncella which means young maiden or young virgin. Since a lot of women didn't marry until the mid-twenties at that time the term doncella would have still been valid. The Paula de Torres at the wedding of Diego Alonso de Hermosillo in 1645 was definitely the mother.

I see that many have responded to your offer. You need to check the line of descent from whomever you are comparing yours to. Many many people have errors in their line so it is necessary that if you are comparing DNA samples that you also check out their line step by step. If you are stii looking for a direct diego romo de Vivar descendant with a line that can be verified, I can put you in touch with any of my numerous first cousins. My mother is a romo and any of my cousins from her brothers fit the bill. If you tell me where you live I can put you into contact with the cousin that lives closest to you. As to their descendancy from Diego Romo De Vivar, I can provide all the details.

R A Ricci,

You should get DNA tests for you and your relatives so you can see how they work. If your Romo de Vivar relatives aren't willing to get DNA tests it would be of no value to Xayme.

I can also tell you that the people that match Xayme were recruited by me to the Nueva Galicia DNA project long before he made the offer. So they have nothing to do with the offer that he made. I know for a fact several of them have extremely well documented genealogies.

Thirdly, when the family trees at FTDNA have a lot of names the trees seem to indicate a different ancestor on the paternal line and seem to have inconsistencies but in reality they don't. Therefore, it can be hard to determine the line unless one has a large database of the descendants of Diego Romo de Vivar.

It wasn't clear if your cousin would be willing be tested which is partly why I posted what I did. Once you order the test and have access to the account it will be easier for me to explain the results.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18698-47642-70?cc=1874591&wc…

My Great Grandfathers great great grandfather, Francisco Del Castillo's daughter Maria Francisca del Castillo Bonal, married into the Romo de Vivar line from San Juan de Los Lagos. Image 218 details the surname Romo de Vivar.

Still researching their offspring but I know that Francisca del Castillo and Ramon Romo married in Zacoalco de Torres, Jalisco, Mex. Going to research this line to see if there is any relation.
Zacoalco de Torres is named after the insurgent "El Amo Torres".

In the Genealogy of Mexico database there's one person who already took the test and there you can find his contact information:

http://garyfelix.tripod.com/index63.htm
http://garyfelix.tripod.com/index63.htm#RomoRM

It may take a while for the page to load.

In the Romo section it also appears a second Romo who took the test and is a 11/12 match to RM Romo. He appears as Anonymous, but maybe the administrator of that page can contact him in your name, or you can post in their Yahoo group.

Victoriano,

There are more that have tested with FTDNA. Many of them are at https://www.familytreedna.com/public/NuevaGaliciaDNA/default.aspx?secti… under the group R1b-M269>L23>L51>L11>P312>U152>L2>Z367>L20 Descendientes de Diego Romo de Vivar b1550 Rielves,Toledo

Some of the Romo in that group have a solid tree which is why that group is separate and why it has that title. The other Romo that aren't R1b have a different genetic line.

Anyone that has had a 37 marker test can see their 37 marker matches and the email address of the match. So he is able to see the contact info of those that match his DNA as well as the trees that they have uploaded or created at FTDNA as long as the match still has an email associated with their FTDNA account.

I assume he is trying to use the TiP report to determine which lines his matches are from but I don't think that he is aware of how unreliable that program is. STR markers change very randomly but SNP markers are carried by all

Here are two different examples of father-son Y-DNA testing showing the STR markers to have a GD (genetic distance) of 2 when tested out to 67 markers.

http://forums.familytreedna.com/showthread.php?t=36922

http://forums.familytreedna.com/showthread.php?t=35648

There are examples of paternal lines with a common ancestor from more than 5 generations ago without any of the STR markers changing.

So again, since STR markers change randomly, and sometimes switch back, there is no way to tell how far back the common ancestor is, other than well documented ancestry, until BigY testing becomes cheaper, commonplace, and those and/or other matches have had the BigY or a comparable test.

Mr.

I've indexed/extracted many of the matrimonial investigations from Aguascalientes (everything up to about 1730; I am currently working on 1730-40) and posted them here at NR. Go to Files, Reference materials, then Aguascalientes matrimonial investigations.

These are pdf files that are searchable. You can down-load these files if you wish.

The early records are incomplete, and not in chronological order. Unfortunately, I did not find any records for Nicolas Contreras.

At some point Family Search re-posted the matrimonial investigation films, and thus the image numbers do not match the way the films are currently posted, so my index has become somewhat difficult to use.

That particular Juan Pérez Gallo and his wife Doña Ángela de Orozco are my 12th great grandparents. I'm familiar with his children and their children, but I don't have any further information on him or who his parents are. His wife Doña Ángela de Orozco y Velasco is the natural born daughter of Francisco de Orozco(the son of Gerónimo de Orozco and Ángela de Velasco) and Catalina de Arriola. There's a couple of dispensas that mention the Pérez Gallo in Montejano Hilton's Sagrada Mitra de Guadalajara.' But, neither show anything further for the Pérez Gallo line or for Juan Pérez Gallo. You can view the two dispensas that mention Pérez Gallo below. The first one is a Dispensa de cuarto grado de afinidad por cópula lícita and mentions the widow of Francisco de Tejeda Villaseñor, Doña María Pérez Gallo, (daughter of Juan Pérez Gallo and Doña Ángela de Orozco y Velasco). The other mentions Onofre Joseph Pérez Gallo, (grandson of Juan Pérez Gallo and Doña Ángela de Orozco y Velasco and the

Hello Christopher,

I descend from Onofre Joseph Perez Gallo (born 1712 Teocaltiche). I was stuck at his parents Jose Perez Gallo and Maria Alvarez de Nava I had copied Jaime Holcombes work on his wife Ana Fernandez de Rueda (Angela) but yesterday I found conflicting information on Ana "Angela" and will review why Jaime Holcombe provides different parents than the document that I found yesterday.

I was stuck on Onofre's parents and had only had his mother as Maria Nava when I discovered yesterday that she was also known as Maria Alvarez de Nava. You state that Onofre is the grandson of Juan Perez Gallo and Angela de. Orosco y Velasco. Then I am assuming that Jose Perez Gallo is the son of Juan Perez Gallo And Angela de Orosco y Velasco. I am confused by your statements on Francisco Orosco and Geronimo Orosco. I descend from Licenciado Francisco Tello de Orosco ( born circa 1556 ciudad de Mexico )and Ana de Carbajal y Ulloa. I have this Francisco as a son of Doctor Geronimo Orosco

On the IM of his third marriage to Manuela Reynoso, he is listed as the legitimate son of Don Joseph Pérez Gallo and Doña María de la Nava Álvarez Tostado:

Onofre Joseph Pérez Gallo's father Don Joseph Pérez Gallo was born in March 1685 and baptized in Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, Teocaltiche, Jalisco on 18 Mar 1685 and is the legitimate son of Juan Pérez Gallo and Ángela de Orozco y Velasco. Ángela de Orozco y Velasco is the natural born daughter of Francisco de Orozco and Catalina de Arriola. Francisco de Orozco was the son of Gerónimo de Orozco and Ángela de Velasco, that's where the Velasco comes from. This Ángela de Velasco was the daughter of Juan Ramírez de la Campaña and Francisca Temiño de Velasco. Francisca Temiño de Velasco was the daughter of Diego Flores de la Torre and Ángela de Velasco.

According to Jaime Holcombe, Gerónimo de Orozco that was married

Hello Christopher,

You saved me a lot of time and work. I was going to track down Jaime Holcombes family worksheets just to find his information on the Perez Temblador family. Many years ago I spent a lot of time going over his family group sheets. His work is so vast that it would take me. A long time to go throw all of the films. Not only that, but it was the wrong path to take.

A dispensation provides information that Lucas Alvarez Tostado Nava is the brother of Maria Nava (Maria Alvarez Tostado) if this dispensation is correct then that makes Maria Nava the daughter of Lorenzo Alvarez Tostado Nava and Juana Delgadillo (Islas)

I assume that Alberto is the son of Juan Bautista Orosco.

Juan Bautista is the only brother that came over that I know of. I will do more research. I just found another Jaime Holcomb mistake yesterday so it is important to check his work even though he compiled a tremendous amount of accurate data

Thanks again,

Rick, you may already have this record: Joseph Perez Gallo's death records from 1741 listing his brother in law as "Lorenzo" - Maria Nava Alvarez Tostado's brother. Would you share the dispensation you have listing Maria Nava Alvares Tostado's brother as "Lucas" Alvares Tostado? I know Lorenzo and Lucas are brothers according to Family Search files.

Juan Pérez Gallo and Ángela de Orozco were already having children in Teocaltiche and Ayo El Chico in the 1670s:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18685-56587-84?cc=1874591&wc…
That would likely place Juan Pérez Gallo's birth around the 1650s. His parents would most likely have been born around the 1630s. Therefore, the couple baptizing a child in 1691 would be the unlikely origin of the Pérez Gallo.

There should have been a dispensa for this couple. Vicente Romo de Vivar, father of the groom, was the son of Joseph Romo de Vivar who was the son of María de Villalobos who was the daughter of Salvador de Villalobos Macías Valadez and Francisca Martín del Campo y López de la Cruz who were also the parents of Francisca Villalobos who had Juan Tiscareño the father of Maria Dolores Tiscareño.

If anyone finds the dispensa please let me know.

Hi Felipe,
Danny is right, although your original post and your Refutación farther down the thread are written at much different times, neither of them match in their ancestry of José Andrés Romo de Vivar. Your first post mentions that Nicolás Romo de Vivar married María Martínez de Villalobos, who you list as the daughter of Nicolás de Villalobos and Theresa Carrillo. You also list this Nicolás Romo de Vivar as the son of Diego Romo de Vivar and Lorenza Ruiz de Esparza. Then farther down in your Refutación you list the parents of the same Nicolás Romo de Vivar as Diego Romo de Vivar and Luisa de los Reyes y Ángeles. Both posts are actually incorrect.

Your José Andrés Romo de Vivar is the son of Captain Nicolás Romo de Vivar ( son of Pedro Romo de Vivar and Lorenza Ruiz de Esparza) and María López de la Cruz aka María de Villalobos ( daughter of Salvador de Villalobos and Francisca López de la Cruz). Both parents are actually mentioned in their marriage on 12 Feb 1684: https:/

Estimado Felipe,

The idea that the ancestor of the Romis de Vivar was an inquisitor throws a curveball into the accepted lineage by most genealogists as the only diego Romo de Vivar, from this time frame, that I have confirmed to be an inquisitor has different parents. With both Diego Romo de Vivar and Maria Rangel de Pegueros parents identity being questioned, the possibility arises that we have repeatedly accepted genealogies as proven when maybe it's time to go back and reexamine all the information on these people.
