Sorry, for the confusion, that my uploading of my file has caused.  I
created my file, with wordperfect (meaning, that I have never used
excel yet.)  I just wanted to share with the group, what films and
other resources, that the FHC, here in Logan has.  Because I only do
about 25% of my research, that the Logan Family History Center.  The
other 75% of my research, is done at the Family History Library, in
Salt Lake.  so, in reality, I have access, to all the films that the
Family History Library has, and it does not cost me anything, to order
them.

Thus saying that, I can say if, anyone needs a occasional lookup, they
can contact me, and see when I will be in Salt Lake. And can do the
Lookup. 

Also, if there are other group members, here in Utah.  That may be
able to help, with lookups at the FHL.

Alicia:

I have been doing a lot of lateral research as well, particularly in 
the earlier years (1700s) because as Emily points out, there is a lot 
that can be found out by tracing migration and marrige patterns within 
a family and across families.

I have a lot of intermarriage in my ancestry as well, with nine 
different lineages leading back to the same man around 1700.  Other 
than this man having had many children, the families in this rancho 
(Charco Hondo) seemed to marry with each other over the generations.  I 
am not sure that this has to do with fiefdom, because this particular 
man was a rather large landowner and I am assuming his children were as 
well, but by the late 1700s land had become scarce in the area and 
marrying out would mean having to distribute land into even smaller 
parcels in following generations.

I also think that family unity probably played a role... migrating 
would usually require moving not just yourself, but your extended 
family.  That, I have witnessed anecdotally and read about in academic 
studies regarding migration patterns from these ranchos to the United 
States.  Each rancho has one (or sometimes two) target places in the 
United States where people migrate.  That way, they are able to move 
with their family units and support systems intact.

I have now connected with the other two Pinedos from the group and we 
are collecting data on all of the Pinedos in a given period (mid-late 
1700s) so as to find liks between our families.

Does anyone know where I might find a history of la Parroquia de
Rincón de Romos and also of the Parroquia San José de Gracia?

I understand that for awhile there was an auxiliary San José parish
separated out of the main San José parish. It also seems that the
parochial jurisdictions changed over the years. I would like to be
able to decipher what belonged to what, and when, and how they
correlated with the civil jurisdictions.

If you have an Excel file that has all of the info, it should be 
fairly easy to import it into the database.  I pretty much did that 
for the Totatiche and Colotlan films, which I had in an Excel file.  
I will look at your file Joseph and let you know if there is anything 
else that I would need to put your files into the database.

Okay with my move of the few genealogies to the Ranchos2 files area that
means that there are 13 of you that won't be able to access them because
you never responded to my encouragement to join Ranchos2.

I'm converting the Ranchos2 Files area to strictly members genealogies.
Its a work in progress but so far by MOVING the BATCHES to the LINKS
area of Ranchos1 we now are at 56% capacity rather than the 86% were
were at. That being said only to say that I'll be discontinuing putting
NEW MEMBER genealogies in the Yahoo Brief case and only use that
sometime in the distant future when we fill up the Ranchos2 file area
with new members (I might be dead by then and won't have to worry about
it).

I'm not sure when I'm going to be able to get around to moving the rest
of the stuff from Ranchos2 to its new home on my NuestraFamiliaUnida
website but I'll probably move a little at a time and then work on
getting the few genealogies in Briefcase over to the Ranchos2 files
area. Both Ranchos1 and Ranchos2 files area will be open to members for
adding, deleting, modifying, etc files as the members wish [note: I
meant your own that is].

if anyone has any questions or comments bring them up in the group as
this is something that affects us all

I'm sorry Maria but I think I'm finally getting the point. The database
would be one database where we all have our films in one file so anyone
could then easily look at it rather than look at each individuals list
for the film they are hunting for.

Well Can't this be done by cutting and pasting from one Excel file to
the next?

I've updated my film list by putting up a very ugly Excel file in the
Ranchos2 files area.

situation is that I am using over 300 films, right now and I am just
barely getting them, into my database.  So once, that is done.  I'll
work on putting them, into your database.

What I did was simply export out a text file of the Ahnantafels for 
my four grandparents' ancestors.  Since my grandparents (and all of 
their ancestors) are no longer living, there are no living people in 
the file.  I think what is of interest to others in the group would 
be back a couple centuries at least so leaving out the last century 
is not a big deal.

I am in the process of trying to do the same.  Here is the information 
from the Univeristy of California library catalog system.  It looks 
like there is a copy at Bancroft at UC Berekely and another at the 
California State Library in San Francisco.  I know there is another at
