Hey, Joseph,

I think I know now what was wrong on my new computer before.  It seems
there are a lot of things in it that are hiding, such as Windows Media Player
10.  When I clicked on the MP3 listed on your last message about maps,
a window popped up saying Welcome to Windows Media Player 10 and it led me
to other pop ups to configure it.  Before, when I tried to view videos,
nothing would happen.  I was then able to download that map of Jalisco you
had sent earlier, and I saved it somewhere.  I tried to print it, but
nothing happened.  Is it possible to print it?  Or can one only save
it to view on the computer?  I guess copyrights would prevent printing it
out?

Thanks,

Emilie Garcia

Tlaltenango, Zac.....Anyone???

This past summer, I went to Tlaltenango, and was able to connect with kin, whom I was not aware of. I was surprised at the individuals that were interested in knowing about my research.

One in particular shared what he had researched however, when I returned home I discovered that I have a stack of papers, about two inches thick on his direct line.

I have sent letters, none of which have been received. I would like to send the "Family Group Records", but if the letters have not arrived, then perhaps these records would be lost to the equivalent of cyber space. Anyone on the group planning a trip to Zacatecas in the near future.

Thanks, Helyn

Well, I had left-clicked on the blue url and all I got was that message
about it being added to the download list, so I will next try the more
complicated way of right clicking on the url and saving it to my computer. I
don't know where I will save it to, but I will give it a try.  I had messed
up my old computer so much that they had to reinstall drivers etc.  I am
dangerous around these things.  I ought to get a job as quality control
person to test the user-friendliness of computers, because if anyone can break
them, I sure can.

Thanks,

I'm not sure what to say as I'm not especially a hi tech kind
of person but all I know is that you just click on the part that says,

This map also shows the western part of Michoacan - I find it very
interesting that the small town of Guadalupe (also known as El Valle de
Guadalupe) was indicated in this map - some maps today don't include this small
town, where my husband's family is from.

Hi, Joseph,

I wanted to listen to your podcasts, but I can't seem to find out
how.  I clicked on the url for the Mimi Lozano interview and I got a pop-up
window that says "Added to download list".  What does that mean, and where
is the download list?  I bought a new computer, but it doesn't seem to work
any better than the old one.

Thanks,

baptism traditions 1700's Jalisco Mexico

Good morning
I'm hoping you can help me understand the history of the traditions
of baptisms in Jalisco during the 1700's.
During that period they are still listing nationalities for people
and I've noticed that many Indios and Mulato's are baptized by
Espanoles who frequently have Don and Dona in front of their names..
A majority of the Indios and Mulato's do not live in the major towns
but seem to be in Barrios or Haciendas, Estancias or Ranchos. Many
of the Espanoles have double surnames. I'm under the impression that
many Indios and Mulato's took the surname of the Espanol that owned
the land the workers lived on. I don't see how the Espanoles would
have known all these workers who's babies they baptized.. did they
do mass baptisms or was it the 'responsibility' of the patron or
owners to be padrinos and madrinas? Or was it considered an honor
for the babies to have Espanol padrinos? My area's of research for
these records are Atoyac, Zapotlan El Grande, Zapotiltic and
Tamazula de Gordiano Jalisco.

On a side note I'm finding many Espanol families coming into these
areas during this time period are originally from Michoacan and they
regroup once in Jalisco!
thank you for any info you can share.
