Anyone have a clue what happened to the records from 1679 to 1839 from
Zacatecas, Zacatecas?

I just today found out that my Puente[s] line was only temporarily in
Sombrerete and origianlly was from Zacacetas, Zacatecas. Woe is me if
those records are not to be found anywhere.

I'm in search of a map that would have the different colonial areas of
Mexico listed. I've know of Nueva Galicia, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Espana,
Filipinas or Nueva Filipinas, and I think there were others. Does anyone
know of a map that has these areas geographically plotted?

Dear Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger

I want to thank you on behalf of all the Native American Indian 
people not
only in California but also in the nation for reminding us that we 
must
remain vigilant and united in our fight to protect our Tribal 
sovereignty
and constitutional rights against those that do not respect them and 
would
annihilate them.

Economics 101 - in California the individual taxpayers account for 
over 90
percent of the State revenue. This is the reason the State and local
governments provide large tax incentive to companies to create 
employment.
Employees of businesses produce goods and services that are sold to
consumers (other workers). When the company employees are paid they 
pay
State income taxes and sales taxes when they buys goods and services.

You are absolutely correct in that the California Indian Tribes are 
exempt
from paying State Income Taxes. However, the Tribes are not exempt 
from
paying millions of dollars in employee benefit tax, which includes
Workmen's Comp, health care and retirement benefits as well as social
security taxes. The tribes also buy millions of dollars in goods and
service from local businesses, which in turn pay State taxes and 
employ
more workers that buy goods and services and pay more State taxes.

Now you want Tribes to pay their fair share. Pay their fair share of 
what?
California has been a State since 1853. California Indians were 
placed on
Indian Reservations and Rancherias between the 1860's and 1890's.
California Indians became American Citizens in 1924. California 
Indians
were first allowed to attend public schools in 1934. California 
Indian came
under the jurisdiction of California in 1953 under Public Law 280, 
which
gave the State enforcement rights over crimes on the Reservation it 
also
allow Native American Indians for the first time to buy alcohol 
legally in
California. In 1976 under Public Law 93-638, The Indian Self-
Determination
and Education Act, California Indian were allow for the first time in 
over
(200) year to practice self-governance and within 20 years they have
accomplished what government control could not in 200 years,
self-sufficiency.

Over 50,000 California Indians have served in the military over the 
past
100 years, including World War I, World War II, Korea, Viet Nam, 
Desert
Storm I and II. And upon return to their Reservations and Rancherias 
they

the University of Nevada has a Basque studies department. In looking
over their site they have this Basque Surname search engine that is

it was late when I wrote to you last night. This morning I'm seeing that
maybe you mean Basque. Is that what you meant or was I originally right
that you mean Vasque or Vasquez?

if you meant Basque then I would think that yes there was a fair share
of Basque people that came to the new world as well but in Nevada there
is the University of Nevada that has a Basque studies department. You
could possibly find someone there to ask.

Hello Everyone,

I was listing to a NPR show about a week ago that was about the Missions
in and around San Antonio, Texas. Anyway one of the historical experts
in the discussion touched on the meaning of the word, "Vecino." He said
that was used for Indios that had successfully made the conversion over
to the Espanol lifestyle. . .Catholicism. At least that was my
understanding of what he said.

So what say you? I've seen the word "Vecino" in the marriage records
mostly in reference to the persons location. . ."Fue Vecino de este
pueblo de viente anos de edad."

Do you all agree with what I understood that expert said? And if so do
you all think the way I've seen the word Vecino used is to be understood
in the same way?

ps: Has anyone ever noticed that in some records [possibly only death
records] there is a T or "Cross" in the margin? What do you all think
that means?

Can anyone tell me if a lot of vasque people from spain immigrated to 
mexico. The reason im askin is because my mother is aguirre on her 
mothers side and was i was told that the surname is vasque.
