Pineda/o yDNA Results - Q-M242

Hello all --

In case there's anyone with Pineda/Pinedo roots in the Zacatecas area, my father recently received his yDNA results. They're posted on the Mexico DNA site.

Watching National Geographic Human Family Tree DVD is a fascinating study of how humans populated the earth. I am not sure about the recent origins of the haplogroup Q but all Native Americans originated in the Central Asia/Middle east around 50,000 years ago, according to the geneticists on that program. They then migrated east and north, entering North America about 20,000 or 15,000 years ago.

So, yeah, Q does originally come from the Middle East. But so do ALL Native Americans, if you go back far enough.

The question is, from what direction and when do your Q ancestors make their way to Mexico?

All of this is quite fascinating to me, and if some one is showing the Q yDNA to come from the Middle East to Europe or Africa, then to the Americas, that would indeed be fascinating, showing once again how closely related we are to one another.

Comment

I suggest getting a deepclade test and also joining the Q project
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/ydna_Q/default.aspx?section=ycolori…

The National Geographic Geno 2.0 project should find more people within the
Q haplogroup and find more details about the subclades in it. People of the
same subclade are more closely related to you with the common ancestor
having lived 16,000 or 18,000 years ago as opposed to 24,000 years ago for
the haplogroup.

Santiago De Pedoza

Thank you Armando for your reply.
I have several Santiago De Pedroza in my family tree.

Nobody knows for sure where this Santiago de Pedroza was born. Don Mariano González Leal wrote that he was probably born in Lagos de Moreno but he doesn't cite a reason for this belief. He could have been born anywhere in Mexico or in Spain. If more people in Mexico and in Spain did Y-DNA testing and genealogical research then you would have a chance of determining his paternal lineage. Due to the limited number of people in both countries that do both studies your chances are very limited, albeit not impossible.

Family Search?

I'm having a minor difficulty in this website I can not find the Informacion Matrimonial for the year 1760 in Nochistlan Zacatecas.

Comments

Comment

A couple of things to keep in mind about the online records at Family Search:
(1) Not everything at the FHL library has been digitized for a locality.
(2) The titles may not always reflect all of what is in the record (a good example is the first volume of Aguascalientes baptisms and marriages: they are all in one volume, but the list of titles only indicates one.) This is especially problematic with the early matrimonial investigation records.

It is often useful to check the FHL card catalog to see what the library actually has. In doing this you will find that there is apparently a gap in the matrimonial investigation records in the early 1760s, except for Indians, which apparently exists. It is possible that the records for the Spanish are mixed with those of the Indians, but considering the large time period covered by the Indian records, seems unlikely. But it is always worth checking.

There is always the unfortunate possibility that those records do not exist.

There is also a book titled "Genealogía de Nochistlán antiguo reino de la Nueva Galicia en el siglo XVII según sus archivos parroquiales" by José Luis Vázquez y Rodríguez de Frías (2001). It has a ton of surnames for Nochistlan. Might try your local library to see if it is available.

Juanita,

Thank you for this very helpful input of yours. After 2 intense hours of looking through these documents I did not find anything on the ancestor i'm searching for.Is there another way I can look at these documents rather than just flipping page after page.

Abram

Comment

Abram,

It is a tedious job and I only wish there was an easier way to go through the pages, but unfortunately I don't know of any. On the other hand if you know the year that you believe your ancestor might have lived in the area you can guess estimate a place within the file for the year. For instance, let's say there 600 images for the years 1881-1889 entering 150 at the image number box would advance you a 150 images.

Good luck,

what does PRIMO-HERMANO actually mean??

I'm a lil' confused:

Does primo-hermano mean that both sets of parents are siblins to each other or can just ONE parent from one cousin be a sibling of ONE parent of the other cousin?

Comments

Comment

According to the RAE Dictionary:
Primo hermano, na.
1. m. y f. Respecto de una persona, hijo o hija de tíos carnales.

Primos hermanos are first cousins. So, two persons that share at least one grandparent are primos hermanos. Typically they share two grandparents, and in some cases they may share three or all four, like the example you described.

Have you looked at all of the baptisms and marriages of all of the Armas in
Zacatecas? Sometimes there can be clues found in those records. You should
also try looking page by page through the volumes of Información
Matrimonial to find clues. Those records aren't indexed. You might find
info on Ambrosio de Armas and Quiteria de Velasco in there.

Here are two baptisms you should look for the written records on -

Hi Abram,

I think you've been searching for them on family search only by typing the exacts names you have. You have to be aware that sometimes the surnames of both parents are not mentioned in the records. Also sometimes, the surname or names can change to one similar but not the same such as Velasco for Velasquez, as one of these records I'm passing to you do. Here's what I've found.

José Francisco A. Alvares parents listed as Juan Manuel A. and Jacinta Quiteria Albares.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N1PV-T5S

Simon Antonio, parents listed as Juan Ambrosio and Quiteria Velasques

Juan José Fermin, parents listed as Juan Ambrosio and Quiteria de Olaya

José María, parents listed as Juan Ambrosio and María Quiteria

I really don't agree on most of these individuals being duaghters and sons of Juan Ambrosio De Armas and Quiteria De Velasco. And the reason why is becuase the last names and some of the first names of the parent are really different. The only one i do agree on is the Francisca being the duaghter of Juan and Quiteria but the rest nope not feeling it.

Don't give up and keep trying. After 9 long years of searching, I finally found my father in-laws birth record. Everyone always said he was born in 1901 in Nochistlan, Zacatecas. I exhausted the search for the films of 1901, there's about half a year missing.

Today I found his birth record, he was born in 1902 in La Cienega, Nochistlan Zacatecas. I thought I'd never find it and that it was missing from the 1901 records. When he was alive, he had a surrogate birth record made in Nochistlan to which several people had to attest that they knew him and his parents and knew he was from Nochistlan and from the year 1901. He was born the 9th of January 1902 and baptized the 25th of January of the same year. Antonio Carrillo, son of Francisco Carrillo and Mariana Jauregui.

So you see, it's not always easy, you have to keep at it and not give up.

Abram,

You still have a lot to learn about genealogical research. I never asked
you if you have found or looked at the marriage record. I was asking if you
have looked at the marriage records for other people with the surname
Armas, those records can sometimes provide clues, as can baptisms for other
people with the surname Armas.

I was hoping you were going to understand what Enrique Agraz pointed out,
especially since you have seen this with other families. The surnames won't
always be spelled the same and can sometimes be transcribed incorrectly.
Remember Alba and Albarez? That should have been a clue to you for future
investigations.

The second link I had given you mentions the parents as Juan Antonio de
Armas and Quiteria Velasquez but that could be due to a bad transcription.
The names and links that Enrique provided make it even more believable.
They likely transcribed Ambrosio incorrectly as Antonio. Take note of the

Comment

Abram,

Actually, you can learn most of it in a short amount of time. What you need
to do is listen. It seems many things said to you in the past went ignored
or in one ear and out the other. An example being both Enrique and I
told you to look at certain baptisms and you said you are not feeling it.
This is not about a gut feeling. It is about reading original records to
arrive at logical conclusions. It is also listening and doing what has been
suggested to you by people that have been doing research for a long time
and have seen first hand what has to be done to try to get past brick
walls. Just because I say "can" does not mean "will" but there is no way to
know until you try. After you have finished all of the baptisms, marriages,
and informacion matimonial volumes you can then start to look through the
dispensas.

Yes, the term español means spanish. In other words they are of Spanish
ancestry. They could be at times actually be mestizo or castizo and be

Hello everyone,
Although this dispensa relates to his son, I do believe
the original Juan Martin Suarez del Real had a fourth wife.
I read the dispensa for him and Thadea de Soto from
1734. It states that he had been a widow twice already.
It mentions his first wife as Petrona Carlos de Godoy,
Lorensa Madera who I thought was the first was actually
the second. Thadea de Soto was third and the fourth was
Michaela Rosales in 1737. Did this guy have bad luck
or what?

Santiago De Pedroza died between 1698-1707 married to Maria De La Cruz

Children;

Jertrudis Pedroza Bapt 22 May 1697 in Lagos De Moreno
Franco Pedroza Bapt. 02 Nov 1698 in Jalostotitlan, Jalisco.

In my notes I have a possible Baptism for Santiago Pedroza, which I have not researched yet, this baptism is dated 22 July 1668 in Lagos De Moreno and the Parents are listed as Marcos De Pedroza & Maria De Nava.

claramente. El enlace es el siguiente:

The dispensa for Nicolás Ramírez Pedroza and Andrea de los Dolores Romo de
Vivar Martín del Campo recently indexed at
http://www.guadalajaradispensas.com/2012/09/1772-1773-fhl-source-film-1…
that the Santiago de Pedroza that the original poster was looking
for was the son of Marcos de Pedrosa y Alba and María Isabel de Nava
(daughter of Tomás de Villalobos y Pérez de Nava and Catarina Macías
Valadez y Villegas)

The definición de parentesco is on the following page -
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18402-45180-83?cc=1874591&wc…

Javier Sanchiz Ruiz shows the spouse of this Santiago de Pedroza to be
María de la Cruz Martín del Campo Isassi the daughter of Nicolás Martín del
Campo López de la Cruz & Sebastiana Isassi Cuevas. The source is cited as
Juan Francisco Javier Salceda Andrade.

David,

Thank you for the translation. I'm disappointed that this seems to refer to Pilar as a female. Is it possible that Pilar is male? :) I thought I was so on point. My Great Grandfather Pilar's birthday was October 11, 1889 (a one day difference) and considering I seems they share the same parental names. Do you think that considering all the writing errors in this document that it could be my great grandfather? Thank you for taking the time to look over this record for me. Juanita Henniger

Juanita,

The phrase "un infante de nueve dias nacido" definitely refers to a male child. I unthinkingly assumed that Pilar refers to a female. I also made the mistake of assuming that a "madrina" meant
that a female child was involved. I agree with you that this record of Pilar's baptism refers to a boy. Sorry.

No David do not apologize. I appreciate all the help. I have 3 years of high school Spanish and that was 30 years ago. Unfortunately, I have seldom had taken the opportunity to keep up my skills. So I find myself struggling to understand the documents. And then add the horrible handwriting and the different script styles and the abbreviations all this at times wants me to pull my hair. So, people like you giving of your time to help is so much appreciated.

Could I impose on you once more? From the marriage license I assumed Pedro's father was Fulgencio, but the baptismal record says Flortina or Flortino would in your experience a name be spelled so different?

Thank you again,

Juanita,

I see no reasonable similarity in sound or spelling between 'Flortina/o' and 'Fulgncio'. There's always a margin for discrepancies in baptismal documents. Remember that the
parents were not always present at the baptism. Information was provided by the godparents. Also the name could have been heard inaccurately, etc. The marriage record
you included clearly shows 'Fulgencio' as the name. Unable to provide much more help than to say it's an imperfect science.

Pedro was baptized as Pedro Celestino Valdez Hernandez on 30 May 1850. He
was the son of Fulgencio Valdez and Cecilia Hernandez.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JM4V-R68

The marriage document also mentions Pedro as the son of Fulgencio Valdez
and Cecilia Hernandez.

Florentina was probably a sister of Pedro since she was the godmother of
Pilar.

Thank you Armando,

I wondered if Florentina might have been an unmarried sister of Pedro. I'm going to keep searching and hopefully I find Florentina. Thank you again. I do appreciate it.

Lol, the thought did come to my mind that Pedro and Matina might have had a child for every year they were married since birth control was not practiced. But like I said I did find a set of twins in another parish whose parents were Pedro and Matina. Twins do run in the family. I also found where Fulgencio and Cecila had a set of twins Flipa and Santiago ;)so those little girls are looking like they could be part of the family tree.

Thank you for your help and suggestions. It helps tremendously to bounce off ideas and thoughts with other people.

Thank you David. I've been trying to wrap this marriage license around the dates. The marriage was in 1877 and Pilar was born in 1889, his brother was born in 1902 both of them had the same maderina both say that Pedro was from San Pedro. I will have to research the area. But the marriage date bothers me and gives me lots of questions. Did they not have children for 12 years? Did they move? Are the twin girls I found in Neustra Senora del la Asuncion who were born in 1902 with parents listed as Pedro Valdez and Matena Sandate part of the family or is this another set of parents and no relations. The big question is what happened between 1877 and 1889 and can i find another marriage license for these children who were born from 1889-1902. Lol, so it's back to drawing board for me. Thank you again David. I appreciate all you've done.

Pedro Valdez and Matiana Sandate probably had lots of children between 1877
and 1889 but the records are probably missing for those years which makes
it seem they didn't have children for that time period.
