I received the same email last May 19, 2010 at 11:20 am. Do not click on
the link. The sender was VICENTE DE SAN MIGUEL castrosivicente@hotmail.com.
I suppose his real name is Vicente Castro S. Has anyone had correspondence

VICENTE DE SAN MIGUEL probably has a virus that infiltrated his email program. I doubt there was an infiltration of the site. This is the second round of recent spam linking to the same site. They probably have the same virus.

I believe I finally found my ancestors?! (The Villagrana's of Zacatecas)

I had found a public family tree under the name De la Garza. I found a Felix Villagrana in this tree. If anyone here thinks they might me connected to these people here, let me know!

Just today I was researching the 01/11/1790 marriage entry of Domingo Antonio Ruvio and Juana Maria Lisundia and it mentioned his father of the same name and his mother as Dona Maria Petra Villa=gran.  It certainly appeared to be an equal sign, but I'm sure I was mistaken.  If so, does anyone have any idea what it is?  Thanks so much for your input,   Alice

If it was the last word at the right of the page, the scribe might have
thought he did not have space and then changed his mind and finished the
surname. Other than that I have no clue. I have a feeling I have seen
something similar before but cannot recall the instance.

Hello Eduardo,
Thanks for the response.  It wasn't the last word, but the "gran" segment was a bit lower than the rest of the line.  Possibly, he accidently separated the surname thinking it was two different names and realized his mistake.  It looks odd and unlike anything I've seen.      Thanks again,   Alice

Yes, I believe I've seen this before somewhere too and I agree with what you said about people thinking the name is spelled separately.

When I recently contacted a vital records office for my birth certificate, the clerk said they couldn't find me at first because somebody misspelled my surname as "Villa Grana". The clerk even thought Villa was my middle name when I gave my surname to her.

This happens a lot whenever I'm telling someone how to spell my surname...I have to break it down to them, especially in areas where people are not familiar with Spanish Surnames...I have to tell them "It's Villa, then Grana". I even think I've done the same thing of making an equal sign to show that something is really one word and not two!

Hello Alicia,
What a beautiful story. It's funny that we Americans have something so valuable to share with our families in Mexico. I had a similar thing happen to me. I was at my father's house, and he asked me who were his paternal grandmother's parents. Since he lost his mother at the age of 3, he never really knew this. He told me, "Luz asked me the other day, and I didn't know." I promptly told him, and he picked up the phone. He began talking with someone in Spanish who I thought was my sister, Lucy aka Ma de la Luz. Then he handed me the phone. There was a woman speaking Spanish on the line who I then realized was his older sister, Luz in Mexico. I was so touched that here the elders in the family were coming to me for information. A few weeks ago, my first cousin, Guero came for a visit from Aguascalientes. He told me that he had seen some of my charts that I had given his mother. He told me that she doesn't leave them out of her sight. I told him that I

Alicia--

I too have had many experiences like that with other descendants of my ancestors who live in the Southwest and California. I don't have any relations in Mexico, except Salvador and one other who are very distant---we share common ancestors from 10-15 generations ago.

What I love about those who contact me after seeing my information in Ancestry.com and other sites, is that I can help them correct their information and add to it, since most are not yet or might not ever be inclined to sit for hours viewing indexes and images, etc.

Ancestry.com is luring people who find it entertaining to only browse other people's trees and pick up information from there that might not really be about their particular ancestors. I tell them about the FHC's and the various Archives in the US, but I guess they are too busy, or like you said, they don't really care that much to do research, but they appreciate knowing what I find about their ancestors.

I guess my habit of checking other genealogists work and their sources have rubbed some, many, people, the wrong way. I started off in genealogy by using other genealogists work as a springboard when I started over 30 years ago. On other posts I have said over 20 years but I guess I forget how old I am getting.
Immediately after starting I found many mistakes. I started off just to correct what I assumed were just a few minor errors. It evolved into building my own body of work and assuming that I must check all lines that I had and not accept others people work without scrutiny.
It is nice to hear our work bring joy.
It is disheartening when people do not understand how much work goes into getting it right and disparage our results because it does not fit

I secured a copy of the form "Request for Photocopies-Census Records, Book, Microfilm, or Microfiche. It is available at Family Search, org. However, last week I was unable to find the form, so I just did a Google Search..and there it appeared.

Since you have the batch and film numbers, all you need to do is fill out the form and  send $2.00 USD, per copy. For the most part, I have received copies of the original document within two weeks.

I have done some further research on the website and found the following:

1. Jose Juan Tejeda Munos - born on Feb 02, 1845 - Father is Narsiso Tejeda and mother is Brigida Munos - born in Teocaltiche, Mex

2. Juan Tejeda Villalovos - born in 1842 on Aug 30 in Teocaltiche - father is Miguel Tejeda and mother is Jsefa Villalovos

This seems close as he was married in 1863, and these birthdates would make him either 21 or 18 at the time of marriage - also, the christening took place at the famous church - Nuestra Senora de Los Dolores

Any thoghts ?

Dear Alexis:
I have found in my Alviso line a girl 12 years old married in 1825.

Anna Maria Salome Albizo Gonzs. b. 11/1/1803 San Miguel El Alto (Indian)

m. 6/9/1825 Nuestra Senora De La Asuncion Camilo Renteria (Spanish)

children:Margarita Renteria Alviso b. 2/22/1826 San Miguel El Alto Rancho ??? (Mestiza)

I have not ordered her baptismal certificate yet, but Anna Maria Salome is the child of Ignacio Alviso and Juana Maria Gonzalez. She was married in June, would have turned 13 in November and had her first child in February, so she was 13 and four months old.

We have had this discussion before on Nuestros and while some may be "same name" different age errors, in other cases marriages at young ages were not all that uncommon.

This doesn't add up.  1825 subtract 1803 and she would be 22 years old.

Dear Esther and Everyone:
Sorry, this was the wrong one. I was doing this quickly and did not check the dates, in my mind I thought that Salome was the young one. I have the wrong girl. Now, I cannot find the one that was 12 years old. For some reason now I am sensing deja vu. Did I make this mistake before?

I would have to do much research, but my thought is that Juana Maria Gonzales was the young bride. She is the mother of Anna Maria Salome. Her age at marriage was not listed, but she was married in 1798. Yet, I do not have any of the documentation in my file as to her birth and it has been a long time since I have worked on this line.

I apologize again, but I am unable to find the girl in my research, who was 12 years old. So sorry and thanks Esther for catching my mistake.

I found a few girls at this young age. The record may say 14 but going back to baptismal records shows they were 13.

Is it also possible for couples as young and 10-13 yrs old to have given
birth to a child as well as gotten married? I think I read somewhere that
this has happened to children just as young or even younger!

Mexican couples who married young & had given birth at a young age

Is it also possible for couples as young as 10-13 yrs old to have given birth to a child as well as gotten married?

Sanchez de Mendoza?

What about jose sanchez de mendoza married to maria orosco? Who are their parents? Is jose also a son of juan becerra and ana sanchez de mendoza?

You might have an error not sure, but Juan Sanchez de LAra did not marry Maria Hurtado de Mendoza, he marriedMarta Sanchez de Mendoza. Ive always wondered why two daughters of Toribio and ISabel used Sanchez de Mendozainstead like the other daughters used Hurtado de Mendoza, This Sanchez might be a clue on the ancestry of ISabel.

This Jose Sanchez de MEndoza was son of Bartolome Martin del Campoand Maria Sanchez de Mendoza. This Maria in turn was daughter of JuanSanchez de Lara and Marta Sanchez de Mendoza. Marta was daughter ofToribio and ISabel. Maria Tello de Orozco was daughter of Francisco T. de Orozco and Ana Francisca Hernandez. Juana Sanchez de Mendoza who marriedCristobal Munoz de HErmosillo was daughter of Lazaro Sanchez de Mendozaand Geronima Rodriguez de Chavarria. So they were related. Jose Sanchezand Juana Sanchez were cousins and Jose Sanchez and Lazaro Sanchez wereboth sons of BArtolome de San Lazaro MARTIN DEL CAMPO and Maria Sanchezde Mendoza. I still wonder why these two did not take Martin del Campo but thematernal name of Mendoza, we know Mendoza had a more importance during thesetimes. Oh, Maria Sanchez who married PEdro Ramirez de Mendoza was daughterof the same Lazaro and Geronima Rodriguez

Greetings Grupo,
I have Marcos de Sepulbeda married to Margarita Franco 08/Feb/1717 in Tepatitlan de Morelos, Jalisco.  This much is definite.  What I need help with is whether this is Marcos de Sepulbeda Lomellin born 20/Sep/1695 in Nochistlan, Zac.  or  Marcos Xavier Zepulbeda Casillas born 02/May/1696 in Zapotlan El Grande, Cuidad Guzman, Jalisco,  and verification that Margarita Franco Garcia born 23/July/1696 is the right woman in the Tepatitlan marriage.  Any help with line will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your response.  I'm not sure where you got Cabrera, but you're much more experienced, and I guess it's further back in your data.

Marcos de Sepulbeda 20/Sept/1695 Nochistlan, Zac has parents:  Marcos de Sepulbeda and Mariana de Lomellin.

Marcos Xavier Zepulbeda Casillas 02/May/1696 in Zapotlan El Grande, Cuidad Guzman, Jalisco has parents:  Joseph de Zepulbeda and Francisca Casillas.

I'm trying to figure out which one married Margarita Franco 08/Feb/1717 in Tepatitlan De Morelos, Jal.

Out of curiousity, is the price of ordering films standard?  Here, it's 5.50 each for short term.
Again, any and all help is welcome and greatly appreciated.   Thanks in advance.   Alice

Alicia,

That is such a touching story! I have been asked numerous times why I was so interested in genealogy.

Esther,

I'm sorry about your father in-law and his passing.

Isn't that what happens to all of us, we don't realize what a treasure trove of stories and history lie within the elders in our family and it's not until they're gone that we realize the loss not only of that person but everything they took with them about their life.

I knew my Nuestros Ranchos family would understand and I hoped that even if it was only one person who was re-energized it would be worth sharing.

Thanks Esther and don't give up on your husband's family history!!

Alicia

Alicia,

That is such a touching story! I have been asked numerous times why I was so interested in genealogy. As a matter of fact, my husband was not convinced that it was of much importance and felt that I was just "spinning my wheels"

HOLA ALICIA

Marta,

Maria,

I do speak and write spanish.

It was a pleasure to share this story with those who are family historians.
Our hobby is quite labor intensive and we don't always get the opportunity to share something that brings such deep rewards like finding lost or unknown family members who let us know what it means to them to make that family connection and who appreciate our hard work.

Thanks to Joseph, Angelina, Paul and Margie, my extended Mexican family on Nuestros Ranchos for your kind words.
