Dear GenReys:
What time were your relatives in Iowa living in a boxcar? I have Blakes from Iowa and during the depression years (dust bowl), 1925, life was very hard. I have my great great grandmothers letter to my great grandmother, letting her know about her sister. She and her husband were working at the gravel pits for $4.00 a day and living in a shanty. During the summer, the heat in the metal shanty was unbearable. Dust that blew from the fields and not to mention the dust in the pits, shortened the lives of the people living in this area. Dust in the lungs caused infections and they had increased risks of pneumonia. You can imagine what your relatives lives were like. Despite all of that, they were happy to have work at a time when many were starving.
Anyway, asides from that, have you tried name variations in your search for Atilano Vargas? I have some Vargas in my Jauregui line and I have found these variations on the spelling of the name, Baragas, Bargas

At this time some people from valle de gpe would live in similar conditions when they would come north to Trona California to find work. My mother was born in trona in 1928 but my grandparents moved back to the valle de gpe because life was rough in the Usa during the depression.

Hellow Maureen,

I have a pretty good history of my ancestors in Iowa. They made it to Iowa in October 1916. From what I understand from my great aunt Sister Marilyn they worked in onion fields picking onions for 10 cents (a day?) and they slept in gunny sacks. I do not know why they chose Iowa as their destination though. I believe Victoriano also worked for the railroad once he made it to the US but he and my grandfather (who lied about his age to work in the coal mines) both worked in the coal mines.

Dear Mex to Mid:
As part of my husband's genealogy, I interviewed his father about his family history. It was a great story. His father was a beet worker in Wyoming and that is where my father-in-law was born, only to be deported voluntarily back to Mexico during the depression without his birth certificate. The saga of how he came back to the US was another whole story. Anyway, in the early 1900's, he said, trucks would come into the towns in Mexico calling for workers. The US needed manpower to harvest the fields. Men and sometimes whole families would hop on the truck and would travel up and work the fields. As you can see, they were paid little and the work was hard in very difficult conditions. Sometimes they stayed on and started following the crops from one state to another. This was a boom time in the US and many also migrated east and worked in the steel mills around Chicago. When the depression hit, the steelworkers lost their jobs and were deported back. I

Hello, I'm researching the Alvarado and Hernandez surnames. I am not exactly
sure which part of Mexico the Alvarado surname came from at this time,
although I do know that the Hernandez surname came from either La Blanca,
Zacatecas or Zacatecas, Zacatecas, Mexico.

I am researching Pedro Alvarado, b. 12 Jan. 1883 and his wife, Angela
Hernandez, b. 2 Aug. 1895, as these are my great-grandparents. Their first
born child, Hilario Alvarado, was born in 1916. From what I can figure out they were married in 1919, according to a 1930 US Census record I found for them. I was able to find a border crossing for Angela Hernandez showing that she came over in 1922 with my great-uncle Hilario and my grandfather, Phillip (Felipe) to join her husband, Pedro. They crossed in El Paso, TX and ultimately ended up in Gonzales and Monterey, CA, USA, where their remaining 6 children were born.

At this time I do not know of any siblings for Pedro, nor do I know his
mother's maiden name. I do believe that

Hello,
I'm just beginning my research and starting off by finding out as much
as I can about the Gonzalez's from Guatimala, Huanusco, Zacatecas.
Guatimala is a small ranch town just west of Huanusco.

I've looked through several rolls from the FHC and have found useful
information, but am hoping for further information about what steps to
take next.
My grandfather's name is Jose Inez Gonzalez, born in Guatimala--birth
year unknown. Jose Inez is the son of Monico Gonzalez, born in 1890.
Monico is the son of Jacinto Gonzalez, born in 1870, who is the son of
Lucas Gonzalez--birth year unknown. From family oral history, I
believe Jose Inez was born sometime in the 1910s. I have looked
through part of the FHC Roll #1089500 (1904-1917), and all of #1083044
(1918-1920) but was unable to find him. (The library closed before I
could finish going through all of the 1904-1917 period.) My oldest
uncle would've been born around 1935, so that means Jose Inez and his wife
would've married around the

My twin sister and I first began researching our family history four years ago. We have found a lot through Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org. My Great Grandmother, Aurelia Haro Robles emigrated to The United States with her mother from Mexico March 26, 1929. She was born July 19, 1916 in Rancho La Nopalera, Mezquital  del Oro, Zacatecas.
Her parents were Jose Doroteo Haro, of Mezquital del Oro, Zacatecas, and Maria Esther Robles of Zacatecas, Zacatecas. Not much is known of Maria’s parents, but I have traced Jose’s to the early 1800’s, each generation from is parents (Pedro Pascual Haro Haro and Agapita Banuelos Villarreal) on are born in Moyahua de Estrada, Zacatecas.

Greetings!
My name is Mercedes Gomez Villalobos and I am happy to be a new member to Nuestros Ranchos. I'm still learning how to navigate this website. I'm posting as much info as I've managed to research in the last 3 years. I need help if anyone out there knows about these wonderfully mysterious distant relatives. I often wonder where my family came from and from what countries we originated. I understand we have French and Spanish and Indigenous blood. My parents had 12 children we're all alive, including my 105 year old mother. Her mind is sharp and she has wonderful stories to tell us. My father had blue eyes and blond hair, my mother had brown eyes, hair. We're all different from very light hair and skin to medium olive skin and brown eyes.

My father Antonio Gomez Gonzalez b.1899 and mother Virginia Villalobos Aguilera B.1905 both in Canadas, Jalisco. My paternal grandparents: Francisco Gomez Martinez b.1869 , his parents: Nicolas Gomez and Gregoria Martinez.

Cesilio de la Paz=Mauricia Munos

I am researching this family. Cesilio was married to Mauricia (father: Leondro Munos=Rita Macias) on 12 May 1824 in Encarnacion de Diaz (La Encarnacion).

Antonio de Mata and Rosa de Santos Bustos married on 15 april 1695 in Aguascalientes.Antonio de Mata was a native of Lagos de Moreno hence why his parents are included, and Rosa's parents were Nicolas de Santos Bustos and Magdalena Chavez Fragoso.
Antonio also used the names Cuellar so Antonio de Mata y Cuellar-Rebollar? Each genealogisthas his way to put his name? Usually theres a fixed way but stuff with these extra names becausedifficult. I found two kids for Antonio besides your Eusevio: Cristobal Santiago baptized 9 August 1710Antonio used the names Antonio de la Mata for this kid and the mom used Rosa MariaBustos. The other kid was Josepha Cataliana baptized 23 jan 1696 Antonio used De Mata y Cuellar-Rebolloand Rosa used Rosa Maria de Bustos. I can send you a report for more details.

Hi

Copy and past my url to see the descendants and ancestors of
Jose Maria Casillas, Gonzales, de Hermosillo...
(aka Jose Gozales de Hermosillo)

http://www.ysearch.org/gedcom_show.asp?uid=FWRJ5&viewuid=FWRJ5

My source is Jose Alberto Casillas, Rick Rodriguez, who both are using actual birth certificates.

It was common and tradition in times to for women to use their grandmothers name instead of their husbands. Such as the case with de Hermosillo mixing with Gonzalez, becoming Gonzales de Hermosillo.

Jose Maria's real last name is Casillas. Very much like Panco Villa using a name de guerra....

There is controversy and some doubt to the origins of Jose Maria Gonzalez de Hermosillo. Different authors place his birthplace in different areas of Los Altos de Jalisco. Places like: Teocaltiche, Tepatitlan, Jalostotitlan and Zapotlan El Grande (Ciudad Guzman).

I understand that there is information out there which maps DNA to tribes in Mexico but I haven't had time to look that information up. I hope to do some more research on that because I can use it in my future studies at school (CSULB).

Eye Color of Ancestors and Offspring

I was wondering if any of you have kept records of the eye color of your ancestors and relatives? Because it may help in being able to determine what the eye color of future offspring would be.

Both of my dad's parents had brown eyes and my dad almost all his many siblings had bright blue eyes. Only 2 of the dozen or so had brown eyes. I had blue eyes until I was 3 then they changed to hazel.

I was told about the mysterious light recently by some friends from
Zacatecas. They said it was from buried gold that people would try to hide.
I have no idea if it has scientific vailidity. They also told me about a
laborer who was working on someone's house who found a cache of gold inside
a wall that the owner didn't even know existed. The laborer would sneak gold
out a little at a time until it was all out. Supposedly the laborer managed
his money, from the gold, well but went crazy from the gas the gold would
release. Again, I have no idea if there is any validity to it to the gas.

In my research, Toribio is usually a middle name. Try different first names as sons of the juans and see if one comes up with the middle name Toribio. This still does not confirm that he is the same person but then you check out all info on this Toribio to find clues as to whether this is the same person. This is a lot of work but I have had some success, along with more failures, but the successes have been worth it.
I have disproved some genealogies in widely quoted books and found Proof of the real genealogies by doing this.
Again, It is a lot of work so try traditional methods first.

I actually read about such events a month ago, but only now have the time to post up what I have read about.

It seems that, Apache raids were a common occurance around the time of Mexico's war for independence. This is because the Comanche's, since the 18th century had been gradually pushing the Apache's out of their own lands. With the presidial troops few in number, it was a common occurance for Apache and other Native Americans from the southwest to push into southern Chihuahua and into Durango. I forget when, but I think it was in the 1840's when bands of Native Americans reached as far south as the city of Zacatecas. What stopped these raids, at least temporarily, was the Mexican-American war when the Apache's and other tribes were reluctant to fight the American army for one reason or another.
The raids resumed again once the war ended, so it is possible that in the 1850's, Apache and other tribes pushed back into Zacatecas.

My family was from the district of Jerez and in a recording made by my grandfathers sister she mentions that her grandparents Juan Jose Castanon and Zeferina Mejia were killed by Indians in Recodo, district of Jerez. This occured between 1850 and 1860 so apparently there were still Indian uprisings in the area during that time period. No mention was made of what tribe or band the Indians were.

thanks for sharing your story.

Alice:

The first step is to find the passenger record for the ancestor from Spain. It is somewhat tricky especially because spellings in that era were so unstandardized and people changed the use of their names so much. Furthermore, many people came as servants of others and their license to go to the Indies was merely an appendage to someone else's license providing very little information.

Then of course there are many who came with no license... probably debtors, Jews, etc. who were escaping Spain to the New World illegally. There is likely no record for them.

Anyhow, search the PARES database (you can use the link on the Nuestros Ranchos site) and try to look for your ancestor. I have found this Santelices which matches the time period and place but not the exact name:

Hello All, just a few thoughts on all of this, First of all , historically speaking, most of the ancient authors related the original inhabitants of Iberia (Spain) to the Berbers of North Africa. They spoke of the similarities in regards to temperment, tribal structure and physical appearence. The origin of the ancient Spaniard was rooted in North Africa, there are regions of Spain that are perceived as "Celtic" that have a high amount of the Berber marker M81,most notably in Galicia and Cantabria. When genetic researchers dated these samples the time frame predates the Moorish occupation. The Pasiegos of Cantabria are the most well known examle of this.

Secondly, Berbers are not predominately dark skinned, no darker than Spaniards in fact. There is a high frequency of red hair, especially among tribes like the Kabyle and Riffians, the "western European" Y DNA marker R1b is also not unknown among the Berber poupulations....I don't like to reference Wikipedia but opposed to referring

Comment

Robert,

It seems you have combined the statements of different people and grouped them as they had been made by a single person. Can you elaborate on which exact statement you are referring to? Then we can discuss what was meant and what information that statement was based on. I don't see where anyone said "most of the people of Los Altos are descended from "Celts" or "Basques are" not "overwhelmingly R1b" I also don't see where anyone is trying "to "prove" an agenda" and "propogate lies and the idea that one group is somehow superior to the other." It seems you have done some word twisting of other people.
On the subject of Wikipedia - yes there can be information that is incorrect but I haven't found anything a book disagrees with. The wiki pages do cite references just as any book does. There are probably more books out there with factually incorrect info than Wiki.

Hi 'Mando,

My apologies, this is sort of an on going disscussion that gets resurrected once in a while, I didn't want to direct my comments to anyone directly because it usually turns into an argument, and that is a complete waste of time.

Reading through the previous posts people mention the Berbers and Celts,DNA and physical appearence, which are old subject matter here, so I guess I was on "auto pilot" with my post. As I said it's just my two cents, I'm sure many folks here have heard it before.

The short of it is that I believe some of the things that are posted here in regards to genetic research and ancestry are misleading or, flat out wrong. My worry is that old stereotypes and myths are perpertuated and then reintroduced to people as fact.

All of this subject matter is complicated, and I am the first to admit that I don't have all the answers. My hope would be that people truly do some hard research and come to their conclusions not because they satisfy their ego but or a

My research has included verifying many of the statements that you just made. I have found lines that extend into north Africa.
We altenos descend from multiple lines of moors. Again I know that it is only a relatively small part of the genetic pool but it is an area of research like the jewish lines that I find a challenge.
When I was a kid I was confused by what I thought of as a funny looking catholic cross. It wasn't until a couple of years That while researching one of our moor lines did I find out the history and significance of that cross and how we altenos descend from a person (a moor that converted) that was involved in this story. I now look at the cross with affection. It is also through this line that I found out that we descend through the last wave of moors that were intolerant and brought war to the iberian peninsula.
Again, I am not saying we descend mainly from Moors and jews. We descend mainly from the basques and germanic tribes that intermixed with the

Also, the European "look" in Mexico was not centered in Jalisco. I have in my lines people in Juarez and Zacatecas who I have traced back in those places to the early 1700s and in Zacatecas to the 1500s. Their descendants in the late 1800s and early 1900s were thought to be German, Russian and even Irish due to their ruddy complexions. blue eyes, and red or blonde hair. Some I know for sure were of Basque descent, such as my father's Olague in Zacatecas. The others in Juarez had surnames such as Puertas and Trujillo.

I agree. My maternal grandmother was a "Lizarrga", which according to a reference librarian that I meant in the Archivo General de Indias in Seville, is a common Basque name. My grandmother was born, as well as her parents, in Ixtlan del Rio, Nayarit. By the way, Nayarit by definition is considered part of Nueva Galicia, along with Aguascalientes, Colima, Jalisco, and Zacatecas.

Some I know for sure were of

Hello Paul and Daniel,

Technically Lizarraga and Lazarraga are two different surnames. But as we
know spellings can change and at times there are errors.
LIZAR, Lizarra = Estella. El fresno. Aga = Lugar LIZARRAGA =
Lissarrague = Lugar de fresnos.
LAZA = Suelto, anchuroso. LAZAGA = Lugar anchuroso. LAZARRAGA = Lugar

Hello Emilie,

I agree that güeros aren't only in Jalisco and nobody insinuated it.
However, a lot of people think that Jalisco has the most. That may be true
especially since Jalisco is the 4th most populous state in Mexico and
Guadalajara is the 2nd most populous city in Mexico

Since I had looked up Lizarraga I also looked up Olague for you - OLA =

is OLAGÜE

Hello All, just a few thoughts on all of this, First of all , historically speaking, most of the ancient authors related the original inhabitants of Iberia (Spain) to the Berbers of North Africa. They spoke of the similarities in regards to temperment, tribal structure and physical appearence. The origin of the ancient Spaniard was rooted in North Africa, there are regions of Spain that are perceived as "Celtic" that have a high amount of the Berber marker M81,most notably in Galicia and Cantabria. Hello Arturo,
 Thanks for your response.
In my original and later postings I mentioned that I researched PARES and had located Juan Santelices that fit the time frame and location--Santander, but I don't know how to continue with verification as to whether I'm dealing with the correct person.   I've got my Juan Santelices' parents--Tomas Santelices and Antonia Ybanes from his 1793 marriage in Queretero, but I don't know where to go to in PARES or elsewhere to verify if I'm dealing with the right person in Spain.  Are baptismal or other documents accessable on PARES?   Also, where did you get the passenger lists?  I could not find the "Pasajeros a las Indias" from that website, I'm sure it's called something else that I missed.    Thanks again, and I welcome any and all help from those that have researched and verified ancestors in Spain.    Alice

I was able to find entries with enough detailed info to be sure it was them
but only because the Basque government has sponsored a site that has the
sacramental registers of their territories and also because an uncle had a
copy of my bisabuelo's baptismal record that I didn't know he had until I
told him I found more ancestral info and also because my tatarabuelo had his
geneaology registered in Bilbao. I know that doesn't help you unless you are
able to tie yourself to the Santelices of Vizcaya, but one thing can lead to
another starting with info acquired from the websites I provided. If you pay
for the services of the census info and find a household with names matching
those of Tomás de Santelices, Antonia Ybanes (Ibañez) and Juan Fermín
Santelices around 1775 or earlier then you can almost be positive that it is
them. The names aren't as common as other names. Also once you get a reply
from someone in a group they may even have copies of what you need.

Hi Alice, I also have a record stating that my Caminos originated in Santander,

Spain. Maybe we could help each other. I havent been able to tackle on Spain,

because Im usually more focused on Los Altos, theres just so much to learn!!

I am fascinated. Maybe I can help you too, have you tried ordering microfilm

for Santander? The thing with Santander is that it kept changing names. And

borders changed. There are about 7 churches in Santander then there is the possibility

of our ancestors going to the main church in Burgos which is south. Also, with my French lines, Bourbon and the records read D'Ponte but its wrong the real spelling gramatically speaking should be DePonte who came from Auvernge? (I cant spell) Havent had

enough time, so little time so much to do, is my motto when it comes to

Hello Daniel,
Good to hear from you.  Yes, there's too much to do in the time we have.  I have a question:  Do you make it a point to research every new generational pair of ancestors you come across or do you choose only a few lines?  For efficiency, I've thought about focusing on only researching the paternal lines of Onate, Santelices, and Balderrama, but every time a new name appears, I feel somewhat compelled to dig a little.
I was doing great with my Santelices until I came across Juan Fermin Nepomuceno Santelices from Santander.  At first I thought YEA! I found the Spain connection and now what???  He married Maria Luisa Sepulbeda (daughter of Jose/Jph Gregorio Zepulbeda and Ma Manuela Morales) on Feb 27, 1793 at Santiago Queretero, Que.

Jose Gregorio's father was Marcos Sepuldbeda and I wrote you that I found two Marcos Sepulbedas--one from Nochistlan, Zac and one from Cuidad Guzman, Jalisco.  I haven't ordered the film, because I've just ordered 5!!! and it gets

Dear Silvia Corona,

It could be that the Maderas that branched out came from the Rancho Maderas in the Huejuquilla El Alto, Jalisco, Mexico area. My Madera ancestors were at Rancho De Los Maderas (Rincon De Los Maderas) just to the east of Huejuquilla. There are three Rancho Maderas, where two are on the map:

Madera_32,

One last thing. Yesterday I was reviewing material again from Mezquitic and kept on running into Madera entries. The earliest Madera was Antonio Madera from 1685. They intermarried heavily with the Guzman, Banuelos and Robles families, amongst others. My Felgueres ancestors married into the same group. I must have run into a lot of Maderas since at one point in my research, I noted that the Madera family in the 1715-1720 time frame was from "Minillas." We have discussed Minillas before in this website. There were many Minillas in the past and now they reportedly don't exist because of their depleted minerals. At least, you might get a hint of what kind of business they were in.

I have one more comment about all these families which I will make later in another topic page.

Dear Mr. Madera,

Since you are from Huejuquilla El Alto, are you familiar with a ranch called Hacienda de San Antonio (de Padua)? I found it in the old records of either Huejuquilla or Mesquitic. The ranch was owned by Guillermo Duval del Valle (from Cadiz) and Gertrudis de los Santos Coy (from Saltillo originally) ~1760-1770 time frame. Is it still there? Is it in Huejuquilla or Valparaiso? Do you now any history of it.

I would have to say that the Madera's european origin is from Asturias, Spain. Since other people that have posted here that are also Madera has stated Asturias.

But I would say two places. Madeira Island of Portugal and Asturias, Spain.

So that should give other people from the Madera family and idea where to look.

Notice that what attracted europeans to the Northern Jalisco and Zacatecas area was the discovery of silver. Zacatecas is known for the silver that was discovered there. Also the establishment of the Ranchos.

Northern Jalisco is right on the border with Zacatecas.

I too have family from the areas you describe. For what it is worth, I have repeatedly found the Madera family not only in Huejuquilla el Alto but in the nearby town of Mezquitic, Jalisco. The marriages and baptisms of the Maderas in Mezquitic date back to at least 1686 (Mormon film numbers 1164940 and 1164952). I suspect this is the same family since these towns were all frontier land back then. The elite (well-to-do mestizos, criollos, and the rare peninsular) all intermarried; distance was not a major issue but "class" was. It was preferable to marry a non-NAI. The ultimate prize for a criollo family was to marry a peninsular but it was OK to marry another criollo or well-to-do mestizo (re-labeled "espanol"), near as I can figure from my review of centuries of records in the local area and books that I have read. Bottom line: I think we are talking about the same Madera family, with branches thereof. Also by 1686, at least one of the Madera family members, Blas Madera, son of Joseph

Hi Ed! The culture of Spain has always fascinated me! The typical stereotype is bullfghting, wine, flamencoand fancy clothes. That is usually south of Madrid (though bullfighting is also popular in the north. My Spanish roots primarily are from Castilla, Asturias, Cantabria and Galicia. North of Madrid you;ll finda TOTAL dfferent culture! These are areas are like you said Celtico. The Irish are said to have come fromNorthern Spain along time ago. The English also have roots in Iberia and Germany. Sometimes peopleforget that the Spaniards from the north are usually (Gothic and Suevic blood from Germany). The history in general is fascnating. It is nice to know someone who also has Asturianu roots ours are from Cangas de Onis.

Daniel,

With respect to your comment that the Irish came from Northern Spain, I am not sure that I agree. The Celts settled both Northern Spain and the British Isles, but I am not sure there is good data that the sequence was Northern Spain then Ireland. For example, the myth that the Black Irish are Spaniards that were shipwreck victims from the defeated Spanish Armada is complete fantasy, given my historical sources.

Furthermore, the Felgueres/Villegas family in Huejuquilla el Alto also derive from the de los Santos Coy family via Saltillo. The latter Santos Coy family, along with the de la Garza Falcon family and others, were from Lepe, Huelva, Spain. Arguably, these families were conversos (ex-Jews). See the book "Conquistadores and Crypto-Jews of Monterrey" by David T. Raphael. I admit that Raphael lacks solid data.

In my historical and DNA reviews, there is nothing "pure" in any family of Mexico, especially our area of investigation. In my mind, Spain itself was the largest

According to Brian Sykes the British Isles were populated by Iberians 6,000 years ago. I am going to assume he worked with anthropoligists for his following statement "Before they arrived, there were some human inhabitants of Britain but only a few thousand in number." Both of these statements can be read at http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/this-britain/celts-descended-from-….
Also the Irish are more closely related to the Basques as far as Y-DNA is concerned.

I don't think all Mexicans "have" the same genetic ancestry, if you go to Mexicothey have a spectrum of colors from the darkest to the lightest. From personallyexperience and travel I notice the majority of the lightest Mexicans are in the north, west and Mexico, though they can be virtually anywhere in Mexico. I guess the concentration is because of the climate. A state like Jalisco is a very fair climate similar to that of Europe, hence I think this is why the Spanish had a desire to conquer that territory and settle. I think the mestizosare half Spanish and half native american. I have an interesting history, I have one black ancestor and 2 indio ancestors, 1 jewish ancestor and the rest are European, it shows Mexico to be a pluricultural country! It gets confusing once "se limpian" as it was known in colonial times like if mestizo married a white to make castizo and the castizo married another white then they become "full" espanol again.

Hello Daniel, I agree not all Mexicans have the same genetic ancestry, but generally it is the same. Gary Felix and Robert Tarín met equilibrium with their DNA databases. Meaning that after a certain point there is hardly any change in the percentages with additional samples. Therefore most Mexicans are mestizos, or half Spanish and half Indian. Spanish being the same mix as found in Spain (European, Middle Eastern, North African, etc)
I also agree with you that there will be differences between communities or groups in Mexico and there definitely were areas where more Spanish, or other ethnic groups, settled and other areas where they didn't. This is why I would like to see a website for Mexico just like the Iberian roots site, especially for Los Altos. Also a differentiation of Spanish origin could be generalized. As far as climate is concerned, it would only be part of the equation for the reason where the Spanish settled, since they also settled in areas that didn't have such a

Yss, Los Altos would be a great project! Most of the records I have seen Spanish tend to marrySpanish. There are obviously mestizos as well. I wonder what if the some maternal altenoDNA is european that would be really interesting. As you stated in most parts of Mexicothe women tended to carry the ameridinian gene. Even today in Mexico we see all types ofEuropeans (english, italian, portuguese, polish etc) and many dfferent type of Asian peoplesas well as many Africans that since the independence have immigrated to Mexico. My questionis if in general most people are half and half then how does the varied color spectrum of Mexicoexist, something I have always wondered. I have many friends in Mexico who are from the darkestto the lightest that can be found! This is what has gotten me nterested in DNA and such.
Regarding to my ancestry I have 2 indio ancestry (Moctezuma, as long as the Ruiz de Esparza genealogy is correct?)and another on my father's side which ironically is also

Hello Daniel,

I think we should all coax Gary Felix, Robert Tarín, and Mariano Leal into
creating that database and urging people in Los Altos to participate. I
don't believe in the myth of the French, a late tio primo told me it was a
myth decades before I read Mariano Leal's take on it. He was also a güero
that could have been confused with having French ancestry. I have a first
cousin, from a different tio, that is also a güero that looks like he could
have French ancestry, and he does as well as Italian, and he also shares my
Spanish Basque ancestry. However both his surnames reflect the Spanish
Basque and his French ancestry. His French ancestry is not from Jalisco
though, and not from a lost batallion either.
Now as far as the skin color variation it is due to a lot of things. First
of all genes can be recessive. Two brown haired people can have a blond
child. Also, the skin color of the children won't necessarily be the same.
Some of my uncles were güeros some were morenos

As Mariano states, I fnd it absurd some pepole think white skin must be french, but likeMariano says "eran blancos porque eran espanoles" Yes, this is true because my father isbrown haired and my mother is blonde, I have brown hair. While my sister is blonde. My fatheris blue eyed and my mother is green eyed, one of my sisters and I have brown eyes whilethe rest of my siblngs have green or blue. I guess in our family brown is recessive. Not surewhere we get brown eyes. All up to my great grandparents had "colored" eyes so I guess brown eyes came from one of my great great grandparents of whom we do not have knowledge ofeye color. It must be on my father's side. Going back to the Celts which is nterestng, I guess we have "a strong" celtic lineage since I have been told blonde=celtic, almost all my mother's familyis blonde. Easily pass as a typical northern european. Then again not all northern europeansare blonde or super lght complected. I have a friend who is a Dane and is
brown

Daniel, I thought you had moved on from there, but all I can tell you is that a child with both parents with dark hair and brown eyes can be born with light hair and blue eyes-color of skin alone does not tell you what is in your DNA-you will have to study that science of genetics, statistics and probabilities. Your Indian ancestors could be Tlaxcalan, Zacateco, Chichimeca, etc. Too bad DNA cannot narrow our ancestry down to one group. Nobody can prove descendancy from any one tribe without a clear genetic trail.

This is meant to be humorous....as I was holding my newborn 2nd child, a
very, very fair child, I asked my friend, "Isn't it weird how he was born so
fair?" She responded: "yes, those Espanoles se metieron con todos, y
tienen que salir evidencia de vez en cuando." How right she was!

I know you are researching Madera but what's your name?

I really enjoyed what you shared and look forward to seeing more from you, thank you so much for sharing what you've learned.  It reminded me we research more than surnames, we are reclaiming a history of our peoples in Mexico..

thank you again.. whoever you are!

Subject: [Nuestros Ranchos] MADERA Family history of Huejuquilla El Alto, Jalisco, Mexico

Hi, I am a new member.  I am research my family history.  Madera.  We are
from Huejuquilla El Alto, Jalisco, Mexico.  A lot of Madera's there. But
there are a number of ranchos surrounding the pueblo.  Three Rancho
Maderas:
San Jose De Maderas
Bajio de Maderas
Rincon De Maderas

These ranchos are very old.  As I scrolled through rolls of films found
out that my Madera family was originally at Rincon de Maderas

I sent you an email to give you my name.

Like to mention that Fresnillo, Zacatecas is located about two hours east of Huejuquilla El Alto, Jalisco (where we are from).

One roll of film that I was scrolling through was "La Cofradia" year 1608! of Huejuquilla El Alto, Jalisco, Mexico.

Presently in Huejuquilla El Alto, there is a rancho called, "La Cofradia." But when I browsed through microfilms of Huejuquilla El Alto, I found one called, "La Cofradia" of the year 1608. But at that time it was called, "La Cofradia De La Hermanidad." It was like a daily log......very interesting as to what was going on back then. Saw an inventory list of that time period. The person who was keeping a log at that time period was a Mayordormo by the name of Lazaro Medina.

In that inventory list it included items like "velas de baro, vino, corona de plata, pollos para los enfermos, costo para Semana Santa." That was an indication they celebrated Semana Santa back then.

But also there were
