Longoria Family

I am seeking information on the Longoria family from Zacatecas. My son-in-law's grandfather is Arturo F. Longoria, born about 1927 in Zacatecas.

So, I presented my research to my son-in-law; it was the wrong Longoria family. There were two Longoria families, bother from Sombrerete, Zacatecas who immigrated to the US and settled in Anthony, NM/TX. My son-in-law is the son of Jose Longoria who is the son of Alberto Longoria who married Maria Eldia Rubalcava. Alberto is the son of Jose Ines Longoria, son of Sixto Longoria. I could find no intersection between the two Longoria families, but there must be one before 1800.

Felipe Longoria and Maria Isabel Josefa Muñoz are the parents of Sixto Longoria Muñoz

Sixto Longoria Muñoz and Ponciana Vasquez Santa Cruz are the parents of Jose Ines Longoria Vasquez

Francisco Conde Cervantes and Josefa Lozano Santa Cruz are the parents of Teodora Conde Lozano

Jose Ines Longoria Vasquez and Teodora Conde Lozano are the parents of Alberto Longoria Conde

Alberto Longoria Conde and María Eldia Rubalcava (daughter of Antonio Rubalcava and Bernardina Farango) are the parents of Jose Longoria

Dionicio Conde (aka Dionicio Castillo Conde) and María Luciana Cervantes are the parents of Francisco Conde Cervantes

Dionicio Conde (Castillo Conde) is the natural son of Castor De la Cruz

Gil Lozano and Luisa Santa Cruz are the parents of Josefa Lozano Santa Cruz

Jorge,

Do you have Cenobia’s death record. If her name was originally Angeles then you may try looking for María de Los Angeles Longoria.

Jose Rosalio Minchaca Zamora and Cenobia Longoria Castañon are the parents of at least three: Edmundo, Roberto and Hector.

Comment

Rick,
I found their marriage certificate; Rosalio Minchaca Zamora (my grandfather) and Cenobia Longoria Castañon got married on September 11th 1900 in Sombrerete Zacatecas. The first name appears as Cenobia and not Angeles, I also found some of their children’s birth certificates and they all show that their mother’s first name was Cenobia. (In some matches from MyHeritage she appears as Senobia).

They were:
Edmundo Minchaca Longoria, born in 1902
Roberto Minchaca Longoria, born on September 20th, 1903
Eduardo Minchaca Longoria, born on September 8th, 1905
Maria Ernestina Minchaca Longoria, born on January 11th, 1908
Emma Minchaca Longoria, born on October 21st, 1909
Maria Aurora Minchaca Longoria, born on October 27th, 1911
Héctor Minchaca Longoria, born on August 15th, 1915 (my father)
Sergio Minchaca Longoria, born and deceased in 1920
Rodrigo Minchaca Longoria, born and deceased at unknown dates.

Hi Jorge,

Great news that you found Rosalio and Cenobias marriage record. There are two civil marriage records. I don’t know which of the two civil marriage records you found. One record doesn’t name their parents, but the second marriage record does. Here it is:

My grandmother was known as Senobia Longoria but as far as I know her real first name was Angeles, I undestood that her parents were Faustino Longoria Trejo and Dominga Castañon, but she died in 1978 at the age of 97 which brings her to be born in 1881. I also understand that Faustino was born in 1884, therefore it cannot be his father.
I know that she had a brother named Salvador Longoria, married to Guadalupe Dominguez.
Does anyone know something about this?
Jorge
(I'm new in this forum and looking for my Zacatecas ancestors Minchaca & Longoria)

Comment

Jorge,

The Faustino Longoria Trejo that is Married to Dominga Castañon was not born in 1881. His children were born around that date.

Salvador Longoria Castañon was born 13/July/1890 at Sombrerete, Zacatecas. He crossed the USA/Mexico border into the USA on 27/Sep1946 at El Paso, Texas

Here is a link to his application for a border crossing ID card: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C9B2-SQL4-2?cc=3155856…

It seems that Salvador Longoria Castañon lived for many years in Chihuahua and that he had a prior marriage before Guadalupe Dominguez. He was deported at one time prior to this application and in that record he has a different wife.

Salvador had an older brother Luis that he lived with for a time in Yuma, Arizona. He can be found there in the 1920 census.

In this record there is a picture of him and it names his wife as Juliana Ramirez and it says he has two children:

Thanks Rick,
That means that my grandmother Senobia/Cenobita (Angeles) was another sister of Salvador, Luis, Maria Concepcion, Geronimo and Benigno.
I also know that Salvador married Guadalupe Dominguez and had 12 children, one of them is Mabel Longoria Dominguez who lived in Durango with my grand parents then migrated to El Paso and lives now in San Antonio.

Jorge,
Geronimo isn’t their brother, he is their grandfather as he is the father of Faustino Longoria.

Tell me more about your grandmother, who she married, where she lived, and any clues that I can use to try to track her down.

1)- Geronimo Longoria married Francisca Trejo and they are the parents of Faustino
2)- Faustino Longoria married Dominga Castañon and they are the parents of
3). Luis, Benigno, Salvador, Maria Concepcion, and Senobia. They may have more siblings as those are only the ones that we have identified up to now.

Hello Carlos,

Your post is 2 and a half years old and I don’t know how far you have gone in your research. You are a distant cousin of mine. You repeatedly descend from the Hernández Gamino family. Here is some information on your family:

Sabino Hernández González (d.15/July/1947) is the son of J. Guadalupe Hernández-Gamino y Padilla and Sirila (Cirila) González y Valdivia. When he passes away he left his wife Guadalupe Hernández a widow. Sabino Hernández had been married first to Maria de Jesus Vivanco.

Maria Guadalupe Hernández (b, 12/Oct/1899)is the daughter of Jose Concepcion Hernández and Maria Dolores Lopez. She was also previously married as she was a widow of Juan Hernández Hernández when she married Sabino. Her first marriage was on 23/Feb/1922. Juan’s parents are Hilario Hernández and Maria Nieves Hernández.

Sabino and Maria Guadalupe were married on 25/Jun/1931 in Arandas, Jalisco, Mexico.

Carlos,

Since you're just getting started, try the following steps. Locate the civil birth and civil marriage records of your grandparents and great grandparents in the civil records for Arandas using ancestry.com, where they're searchable. Those records include San Ignacio Cerro Gordo and they may provide you with the names of your 2x great grandparents. At that point you can then begin to trace your lines further back by using the parish records for Arandas and Ayotlán (formerly Ayo el Chico).

Good luck.

Comment

I have read through searching on here that all or most of the Hernandez the Los Altos sur region stem from the Hernández Gamiño line. (Here:http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/22428)

Can anyone here help me confirm or deny this, please? My great-grandfather is Sabino Hernandez-Gonzales born in Hacienda Guadalupe probably in the early 1900's. I don't know anything beyond him.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Comment

Hello Carlos,

You don’t provide much information to guide a search into your ancestors. Not all the Hernandez in Los Altos sur region descend from the Hernandez Gamino. The H and the F were interchangeable a couple of centuries ago so some of my Hernandez ancestors were more often known as Fernandez De Rueda which are not from the Hernandez Gamino family.

I would recommend that you gather as much information and records on your grandparents and great uncles and aunts as you can, and use this information to guide your next steps. It is important that you start with your own parents and their siblings records to see if they provide more information on your grandparents.

Good luck,

Thank you for the response. For the time being I am trying to follow my Hernandez lineage as far as I can.

I will try to get some answers out of my remaining grandfather. I'll see if he remembers his grandparent's names, or anything else helpful.

For the time being, I know my great grandfather was Sabino Hernandez-Gonzales(z), born in Hacienda de Guadalupe (Municipality of Arandas) whom passed away around 86 years of age. He was married to Guadalupe Hernandez, born in Arandas whom passed away around 80 years of age. All according to my grandfather.

I was able to find a couple results on Ancestry.com for Sabino Hernandez-Gonzales(z), but cannot find a connection to my grandfather (his son).

Comment

Your grandfather.’s parents and grandparents are most likely listed in his baptismal or birth records. Sometimes these records even have great-grandparents. If your grandfather was related to his wife then there may be more information in a marriage dispensation. Ask your grandfather for the names and dates of his siblings. If you can’t find your grandfather’s records then you should look for his sibling’s records.

You can also check out those death records as they often have additional information. You don’t provide any dates so it would be difficult for others to help you without additional information that will help identify your ancestors.

Comment

I don't know about Arandas, but in the Colotlan area where my family is from they list grandparents on the Civil Registration marriage records from about 1860-1920. I would try and locate your great grandparents' marriage record. Usually, grandparents are also on the baptisms starting about 1800 and on the birth records.

Dear Enrique,

I have found the parents of Francisco Caro Galindo and I have solved the reason his daughter Magdalena used the last name "de la Cueva."

His parents are disclosed in Franciso's will, dated 5 Apr 1641 in Guadalajara Nueva Galicia. A fragment of it is quoted in Alonso Davalos Bracamonte's Application to be a Knight of Santiago. Their names are Hernan Caro Galindo and Mariana de la Cueva. I therefore now suspect that Mariana was related to the de la Cueva family in from Ubeda and Southern Spain. I quote the will as rendered in the Application:

"'En el nombre de Dios todoPoderoso amen sepan q.tos esta Carte de Testam.to vieren como Yo Fran.co Caro Galindo Vez.o de esta Ziud. de Guadalajara, Nuevo Rey.o de Galicia, y natural de la Villa de Carmona q oi es Ziu.d en Adalucia hijo lej{itimo de henan Caro Galindo, y de Da. Enrique,

I found another generation back of the Caro Galindo line. I found the will of Fernan/Hernan Caro Galindo, father of Francisco Caro Galindo. It was also in the file for Alonso Davalos Bracamonte when he applied to become a Knight of Santiago. It is an important document because it gives the parents of Hernan, and therefore the grandparents of Francisco Caro Galindo. They are Francisco Caro Galindo and Leonor de Sanctaella. Her name may be archaeic, and actually now be spelled Santaella. Bu the will also lists their children, which in typical 16th century fashion do not all bear the name of the father, but had a last name chosen for them.

Hi Sergio,

Thanks for sharing this with the group. This is a big find! I descend from Dávalos Bracamonte twice, namely the first Count of Miravalle and his brother Diego Dávalos Bracamonte. Their great grandchildren Cor. Antonio Dávalos Bracamonte, Señor de las villas de Melezna, Cadasresnas, Ornija y Viariz would marry his second cousin Josefa Marín del Valle y Dávalos Bracamonte.

A few questions: why would there be two children with identical first names, but distinct surnames. Juan de la Cueva and Juan Caro Galindo. This proves that the de la Cueva surname carried some type of importance in this family, for a male who is Caro Galindo to prefer his maternal name. Was he a namesake? I too suspect, it is the same de la Cueva family in Andalucía. These branches seem to have intermarried in Nueva Galicia.

A descendant of Francisco Caro Galindo and Isabel de Castro y Mesa, was Nicolasa de Camberos y Tolosa who married Agustín de la Cueva ca. 1680 and suspect these two are related

Comment

I have found a Marriage church record in Magdalena Jalisco of Diego Caro Galindo son of Fernando Caro Galindo and Angela de Renteria dated March 1st 1699 He married Mariana Melendez viuda de Garcia Monrroy, there are also records of Joseph and Antonio Caro Galindo about the same year.

Manny,

this is great information. i descend from Gines de Carrion y Mata. does it give anymore of his ancestry. or how he descends from Pedro de Mata? is it through his paternal or maternal side.

Also is this Juana Martel, the wife of the Portuguese, Miguel de Sierra, that abandoned his wife Juana to live with his previous wife who he had told everyone was dead?

Francisca Temino is also an ancestor of mine. Both of them, there's one married to Gines de Carrion y Mata and one married to Juan Ramírez de la Campaña, they may actually be the same person but i have them born about 15 years apart. although both are listed as relatives of Angela Velasco.

Comment

Hi Danny,

I’m sorry, those are the only clues Gines de Carrion gives, in regards to his pedigree, and I don’t know who his nor his wife’s parents are. Nor do I know who Juana Martel aka Maria Martel is, other than the woman identified in this letter. Nor do I know who Miguel de Sierra is, I haven’t seen that name in early Pinos. Was he married to a Juana Martel? That would be cool if he was.

I like how Carrion even points out that Domingo Diaz was padrino for one of his own children, and how you can check the baptism book, to see! It’s right there, 6 Oct 1620! The child’s name was even Domingo! The audacity!

My new favorite expression: “poner una mascara a los ojos de las gentes”: pulling the wool over people’s eyes!

Thanks for your in-depth research, it is very interesting and disturbing especially when its your relatives. I went searching for Pedro de Mata and only came up with the following which is a very dark history of the Inquisition.

The following was a sentence, I thought was connected to the archived article, but I did not find this at all though Cardona's name was mentioned in the Italian section.

"...to Don Pero Mata requests him to let Cardona continue in occupation of ..."

https://archive.org/details/theinquisition00leauoft

On page 33, First paragraph, 3 sentence is an interesting read. as p118 (bigamy, Solicitation), p184 - solicitation (1561), p244, p250 from 1625-1640.

"Everyone has a good ancestor, if you can go back far enough" This was a quote I read a very long time ago."

Manny,

yeah Juana Martel married the Portuguese, Miguel de Sierra on October 24, 1613 in Aguascalientes. she was the daughter of Hernando Gallegos/Martel and Maria de Frias. Miguel de Sierra married her claiming to be a widower, but eventually left Juana Martel and returned back to Portugal to be with his original wife that wasn't actually dead.

Hola Danny:

Hi Manny,

I found a document regarding a Pedro de Mata. I'm not sure if it's the same as the (Alcaide que fue del Castillo de Triana), great grandfather of Gines de Carrion that's married to Francisca de Temino. The Pedro de Mata I came across mentions him as a marinero, capitan and maestre. Even if he's not the same, he clearly must be related. This Pedro de Mata is listed as dying in 1562 in Cartagena and as the son of Gines de Carrion and Leonor de Mata:

Hi Danny,

I found Capitan Pedro de Mata’s testamento at PARES/AGIS, dated 1562. As you mentioned, he died while captaining his ship in Cartagena, Columbia, and he was the son of Gines de Carrion and Leonor de Mata, residents of Barrio de Triana in Sevilla. This Gines de Carrion is probably the same who was a ship’s captain who sailed to Indies in the 1520s, and who later owned various ships that made transatlantic trips, in particular, carrying gold from Peru back to Spain. I think it’s possible that Leonor de Mata was the daughter of Alcaide Pedro de Mata, which would explain why her son was named Pedro de Mata. If I’m right, then Gines de Carrion and Leonor de Mata could be the grandparents of Gines de Carrion, who settled in San Luis Potosi and later in Sierra de Pinos; Capitan Pedro de Mata would’ve been his uncle.
If so, then the younger Gines de Carrion would’ve been the black sheep of the family, seeing how they had such a nautical background, yet he chose to live so far away

Comment

Manny,

I found a few mentions of Gines de Carrion. There's a mention in 1546 of a Gines de Carrion purchasing a vihuela at an auction who they say is most likely el Mozo who they describe as the nephew of Gines de Carrion el Viejo. Both are described in the few available sources as comitres and capitanes. I found it interesting that Gines de Carrion, el Mozo, was the nephew and not the son. I also found this mention of Gines de Carrion, el Viejo: Ginés de Carrión, cómitre, marido primero de Leonor López, hija de Juan García y de Juana López, que le llevó de dote 45.000 mrs., dada por la abuela, Leonor López, viuda de Alonso López ( A . P . S . , III 1517 [ = 1517 ], al 23 de enero ), y después de Leonor de Mata, que le aportó una dote de 600.000 mrs. ( Triana ). Hizo testamento el 1 de julio de 1531...

All of your work is amazing Manny. I always look forward to seeing your posts. I hope you continue sharing your amazing finds here.

Danny & Manny
I have found that the Gines Carrion (born in 1561) who married Francisca de Tremiño was the son of another Gines Carrion born in 1520 who married Leonor de Mata (born in 1519).
Leonor was the daughter of Pedro de Mata who lived in Triana besides the Castillo de San Jorge and died in 1562. I don’t know if this is the one who was Alguacil Mayor de la Santa Inquisicion but he is not the great-grandfather of Gines Carrion Mata but just his grandfather and Mata is simply his Mother’s family name.

Jorge,

Thank you very much. The time lines you give can be reconciled with what I’ve found in San Luis Potosi and Sierra de Pinos. And it’s always possible that Pedro de Mata - maternal grandfather of Gines de Carrion - was the son of Alcaide Pedro de Mata, mentioned by Gines de Carrion in his letter. What are your sources?

Danny,

According to the baptism record, dated 15 Dec 1615 in Pinos, of Diego, hijo de Gines de Carrion y de doña Francisca de Temiño, his padrinos were Rodrigo Heredia and doña Angela de Velasco, “tía del dicho Diego.” On 20 Nov 1616, in Aguascalientes, baptized was Rodrigo, hijo de Juana Medina; his padrinos were “doña Angela de Velasco y su primo, Rodrigo de Heredia.”

From the time line and the locations, doña Angela de Velasco is likely the same who was daughter of Juan Ramirez de la Campaña and doña Francisca Temiño de Velasco, and who was married to Geronimo de Orozco. If so, that she was the “aunt” of Diego Carrion, would imply that she was the sister of

My sources are the available data from different Internet sites and then I try to match the most logical information.
I start with my account in MyHeritage with Record Matches and Smart Matches, doing Search for the person then I go to FamilySearch for eventual civil registrations. Then I go to other genealogical sites like WikiTree, Geneanet or simply by Wikipedia. If the names and time lines are the same I assume that is the information is right.
Sometimes I use an old set of books called “Mexico a través de los siglos”.
Of course I consult also the Recent Posts of “Nuestros Ranchos”. Rick brings a lot of information and corrections.

I have found that Thomasa’s records show her as "Tomassa de Carrion", daughter of Antonio de Carrion (1645-?) and Francisca Beatriz Rodriguez (1648-1700).
Antonio de Castañeda León y Vargas (1660-1743) was son of Nicolás de Castañeda León y Ruelas Sotomayor (1620-1689) and Ana Maria de Vargas de Cardona (1636-1722).

In my tree I have Pedro de Vargas Castañeda (b. 1660) m. Francisca Lopez Mercado He lived in Teul and while I haven't yet found proof, I'm fairly sure he's connected to Nicolas and Ana because of the compound surname.

Pedro has a brother Joseph de Vargas Castaneda m. Francisca Vela Castro. Their daughter Micaela - who married the brother of Francisca Lopez Mercado - was identified as "Micaela de Vargas Castaneda Machuca" on the baptism record of her daughter.

Carolyn,

The marriage information ("Informacion Matrimonial") for Juan de Castañeda and Juana de Carbajal was registered in Aguascalientes on 12 March 1707, and the license to marry was granted two weeks later on March 28th also in Aguascalientes. The link to see this document is

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-11044-17161-7?cc=1502404&w…

Juan de Castañeda and Juana de Carbajal were married on 5 April 1707 at the church of San Matias in Sierra de Pinos, Zac. (within the jurisdiction of Aguascalientes). Notice that the parents of Juan de Castañeda are identified as Antonio de Castañeda and Thomasa de Carrion, and those of Juana de Carbajal as Juan de Carbajal (difunto) and Catharina de Sanabia. This last surname seems to be misspelled and could be either Sanabria or Sarabia. Notice that Juan de Castañeda is said to be "Natural y Vecino del Puesto nombrado La Noria" (in Sierra de Pinos) and Juana de Carbajal "Natural y Vecina de Guadalajara".

Bill and Carolyn,
On familysearch, one of the submited genealogies, someone referred Antonio de Castañeda as Antonio de Castañeda y Vargas, this might be a possible reference in a baptismal record for one of their children. We should research this, if this be the case I have already found a possible link as to parents for Antonio: Nicolás de Castañeda who married Antonia de Vargas Machuca who also had Apolonia de Castañeda. This last daughter married Capt. Sebastián Flores de Robles ca. 1693.
It will be interesting to further research the Castañeda and Carrión families, there are many missing links in the genealogy.
I hope this helps somehow.

Carolyn and Daniel,

This past week I did extensive research on the Castañeda family trying to find the parents of Antonio de Castañeda, but was unable to pinpoint them. One of the first records I checked was the marriage of Miguel de Castañeda to María López, which is also one of the oldest records of a Castañeda living in Sierra de Pinos (within the jurisdiction of Aguascalientes at that time). Their marriage record reads as follows:

Carolyn and Daniel,

When checking the marriage record of Andrés Martínez de Sotomayor with Ana de Castañeda, I discovered an interesting fact that seems to confirm my suspicions that Antonio de Castañeda was the son of Nicolás de Castañeda and Anna de Vargas Machuca, and therefore brother of Apolonia de Castañeda. The link is as follows:

Notice that Ana de Castañeda, daughter of Antonio de Castañeda and Thomasa de Carrión, is identified as Ana de Castañeda y Vargas. That pretty much tells me that she was named after her maternal grandmother Anna de Vargas Machuca, and that she sometimes used the surname Vargas. Here is a complete transcription of this record:

Jaime,

You're not going to believe this! The link to Gabriel de Castañeda's Información Matrimonial that you sent me last Friday solves another mystery that had me wondering for several days. It turns out that Gabriel's marriage record in Aguascalientes is none other than the one erroneously attributed to Miguel de Castañeda. There is no Miguel de Castañeda. Gabriel and Miguel sound similar, so the good padre (or his scribe) wrote the wrong name in the record book. Here is an excerpt of the marriage information provided by Gabriel de Castañeda in Sierra de Pinos:

Bill,
I thought it was a estrange coincidence that two brothers married, within a short time frame, two ladies named Maria (Lopez and Rebollo Lopez) who were widows of two husbands named Juan Valades. Yet, I did not pursue it any further. Once again you share with the group a fantastic piece of genealogical research that demonstrates there was no Miguel but only Gabriel Castañeda.
Regarding the surname Moriano, although rare, it can be found in Spain, and in some latin american countries, particularly in Argentina. There is a town in northern Italy that goes by that name, and the presence among Argentineans could be associated to a toponym used among Italian inmigrants. However, in our case, there is another toponym that yields a more plausible origin. If we focus on the alternative spelling recorded in Apolonia's testament (Vargas Muriano) we find Cerro Muriano, a small town just north of the City of Cordoba, and the site of ancient Roman copper mines known by that name.

Thanks

I believe I have found another piece of the puzzle with the Castañeda family. The following: In a dispensa that can be found for the years 1710-1712, image 489 we find the following information:
Sierra de Pìnos - Nicolás de Castañeda y María Gómez Ruíz

It mentions that Nicolás is a native of Sierra de Pinos as well as María Gómez. They share a 4th and 3rd degree of consanguinity. He is the son of Antonio de Castañeda and Tomasa de Carrión; she is the daughter of Matías Gómez and Isabel Ruíz; The genealogy is not fully mentioned, the only information the witnesses give is that both are "bisnietos de dos hermanos carnales"
According to the dispensation, Antonio de Castañeda is the grandson of Pedro de Castañeda and María Gómez is the great grandaughter of Jacinta de Sotomayor. It also mentions that Jacinta was a sister to Blas Nieto. My question is the following: is Blas Nieto somehow related to the Nieto Corona family? This would put all these individuals

Just a quick note to correct the name of the "padrino" in the wedding of Miguel de Castañeda and María López. The transcription should read "fue su padrino el Capitán Pedro de Quixas y Escalante" instead of Juan de Quenca y Escalante. My mistake in reading the original document. Capt. Pedro de Quixas belonged to a prominent family of landowners in Pinos at that time. I apologize for the mistake, which was caught by the quick eyes of David Delgado of Albany, California. Bill Figueroa,
Recently you provided the names of six children of Pedro Castañeda and Jacinta de Sotomayor, and also mentioned your belief that Nicolas Castañeda, the spouse of Ana Vargas, could be brother of Pedro. However, Nicolas was another child of Pedro and Jacinta, as it was stated in the marriage information when he pretended to marry Ana Vargas in Pinos, Zacatecas, https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-15245-26512-76?cc=1804458&wc….
Ana was born in San Luis Potosi and lived in el Real de la Pendencia and was the daughter of Diego Vargas Moriano and Leonor de Cardona. Notice that her father's surname conflicts with at least one later document where the compound surname associated with Ana appears as 'Vargas Machuca'.

Hello Jaime,

Wow!! You discovered a very important piece of the puzzle and the one were all missing. With this, all the other pieces seem to fall into place. This document confirms that Nicolás de Castañeda was indeed the son of Pedro de Castañeda and Jacinta de Sotomayor and not Pedro's brother, as I had originally thought.

As you mentioned, Ana de Vargas was the daughter of Diego de Vargas Moriano and Leonor de Cardona. The confusion with the surname "Vargas Machuca" stems from the burial record of Apolonia de Castañeda in 1739. Here is the link:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-12142-72431-92?cc=1502404&…

This record conflicts with others with more credibility, such the Información Matrimonial you found and the final will and testament of Apolonia de Castañeda, filed 7 Feb 1715 in Aguascalientes. This important document in the Protocolos Notariales of Baltazar Díaz de Aguilera, Alcalde Ordinario de Aguascalientes, begins as follows:

I just saw a secondary source that states that Ana de Ojeda’s first husband passed away in 1620 so that clears the way for the second marriage in 1621. Ana’s first husband was 45 years old when he passed away in 1620. Somehow genealogists have mixed up the age of 45 with the year of his death and have erroneously listed his death date as 1645. Luis was definitely from her first marriage.

Hello Ruben,

Ana de Ojeda (b. 1593) was married twice, first to to Capitan Pedro Topete Enriquez.

I think that Ana de Ojeda’s first husband is related to Lorenzo Meza through their “Mesa” lines. Her first husband’s father is Francisco Topete de Mesa.

Ana de Ojeda and her first husband had three daughters and three sons. One of her sons is named Luis who was baptized in September of 1615 in Guadalajara.

Lorenzo Meza Valdivia is her second husband, but I think that her first husband was still alive in 1621.

Ana de Ojeda was married to both men, but the children named as inheritors are from her first marriage. On 6/December/1653 she is identified as the widow of Lorenzo Meza Valdivia and the inheritors that she names are children from her first marriage to Capitan Pedro Topete Enriquez. Luis is one of the inheritors

I hope this helps.

Hello,

In looking at the death record, it does indeed mention Ana de Ojeda as suegra, but, not of Luis Bentura de Cabrera but instead of Lic. Francisco Rico ( y de la Torre). Francisco married Antonia Enriquez Topete y Ojeda, daughter of Ana de Ojeda and Pedro Enriquez Topete. Ana de Ojeda did indeed marry twice. His first marriage was to Pedro Enriquez Topete and her second marriage with Lorenzo de Meza. Ana de Ojeda was the daughter of Luis de Ahumada and Mariana de Ojeda y Vaca. This is all confirmed in Ana de Ojeda's testament found here:

Testamento de Ana de Ojeda - Guadalajara, Jalisco (23rd of October, 1653)

You can also find all sorts of rich information about Ana de Ojeda and her ancestors through the "Informaciones: Diego de la Mota y Carvajal" a grand-nephew of Ana de Ojeda through Diego's Ojeda ancestors.

Ojalá y encuentres a tu familia.

Hello David,

Marcelina is correct, some of the children of Joan de Alçola (how he signed his name) and Ynes de Salas do appear as testigos & padrinos in the early San Matias Pinos archives. When did your Pedro Arzola cc Cecilia Lopes de Soto live?

I have found various documents regarding Joan de Alçola in the SLP misc archives: here's his testamento, dated 1596. He names their legitimate children, as well as 2 hijos naturales that he fathered with Engracia de la Olacaval, in Los Ramos de Zacatecas, named Mariana Arzola (b. 1571) and Andres Arzola (b 1574).
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-958X-SWLK?i=137&cc=204…

He names Doctor Juan de Bernal clerigo as his brother, and Pedro de Arzola as his cousin.

Though this Pedro de Arzola does appear in SLP and in old Sierra de Pinos, I don't know if he is the same from Panuco. Here he is, registering a mine 27 Jan 1597:

And here he is, baptizing an hijo

I have a copy of the dispensa for Pedro Enríquez and Isabel Calderón, dated 3 Jul 1667 in San Felipe, Gto. It states Pedro was from San Luis Potosí and the bride from Nochistlán in Nueva Galicia.

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-5JSN-BL?i=545&cc=18833…

However, it does not mention his parents. Some genealogists have him as Enríquez de Rivera (an influential family in San Luis Potosí) and others have him as Enríquez del Castillo.

Daniel, I think you have confused the individual’s that Sandra Patricia is speaking of: her Pedro Enriquez del Castillo was baptized 24 May 1646, son of Hernando Enriquez del Castillo cc Isabel Calderon Delgadillo, while the Pedro Enriquez and Isabel Calderon you speak of didn’t marry until 3 July 1667. These are 2 different families, living in 2 different places and at different times. An easy mistake to make, considering the similarities of the names & surnames - it took me a while to figure it out, too!

Sandra Patricia, I have Hernando Enriquez del Castillo marrying Mariana Diaz de Pangua on 22 Jun 1621 in Guadalajara; while they baptized a son named Hernando on 6 Oct 1631, he would’ve been too young to have been the father of your Pedro. Mariana Diaz did her testamento on 10 Feb 1641, so it’s possible that she died and Isabel Calderon Delgadillo was Hernando’s second wife. Here’s Mariana’s testamento, perhaps you can find a clue:

Dear Jeanette,
You descend from Eleuterio Delgadillo and Maria Nepomucena Delgadillo

Eleuterio Delgadillo was married twice. Maria Nepomucena Delgadillo was his second wife. They were required to get a marriage dispensation because they were closely related through Delgadillo, Lopez, and Valdivia ancestral lines. There was another relationship listed in the dispensation because the two wives were related. Eleuterio married his second wife one year after his first wife passed away.

Nicolas Corvera b. abt 1806 Help reading place of origin

Hello,

Hi Sylvia, Ive been trying to find what I can about Nicolas Corvera and his parents Jose Trinidad Corvera and Petra Marquez. I saw in the Matrimonio of Nicolas Corvera that he was from Zaucillo de Leanos. Im more or less guessing that this is the same Saucillo located in the hills north east of Villanueva and east of La Quemada.
Looking at it from Google Earth it appears that there are walls or fences from previous habitation.

Comment

Hi Sylvia,

Villa Gutierre del Águila and Villanueva are synonymous--Villanueva is the new name changed in the last century. The place of origin for Nicolás Corvera reads "Zaucillo de los Lianos" or in modern Spanish it should be "Saucillo de los Llanos."

Lawrence,

The film no. is 38309 and not 38311. Hernando Enriquez del Castillo was a notary in Guadalajara. This death certificate says that "Francisco Ahumada's" will was drawn by this Hernado Enriquez.

I have not been able to connect Vicente Enriquez's ancestors to the Guadalajara Enriquez del Castillo

Sergio Gutierrez

Comment

Sergio,

Thank you; now I see it: "... testamente Hernando Enriques escribano publico y lo firme ..."; and you're right, of course: it's roll 38309—my error.

As for the ancestors of Vicente Enriques, here is what I have:
* the baptism of Joseph Bisente (279254 image 169) says "... hijo lexmo de Franco Enriques y de Anna Albares ...";
* the birth of Francisco Enriques (25 Nov 1677) is supposed to be on roll 226646 (FamilySearch), but images of the Zacatecas registros are not online;
* so if Francisco's father is, indeed, Pedro Enriquez Cuellar, then Pedro's baptism on 24 May 1646 is found on roll 38311, image 14; and
* Pedro's baptismal record gives his parent's names as Hernando Enriquez del Castillo and María de Cuellar.

So it would seem that the missing link is proof that Francisco is the son of Pedro Enriquez Cuellar and Isabel Calderon Delgadillo; of course, the marriage between Pedro and Isabel is also supposed to be on one of the Zacatecas registros, roll 226724.

Hello,

Trying the pick up the research for my direct ancestor Pedro Enriquez del Castillo. Did we prove that he was son of Hernando and Maria de Cuellar? I am confused with her and Mariana Diaz de Paniagua.

Also, on the previous thread, I see that Guanajuato and San Luis Potosi are mentioned in Pedro's marriage certificate. I have the certificate but could not make this out.

Thanks!

Lawrence and Rosa,

The big question is if the Pedro Enriquez, who married Isabel Calderon in Nochistlan on 3 July 1667, is the son of Hernando Enriquez del Castillo and Maria de Cuellar who was born in Guadalajara on 26 May 1646. Unfortunately, the marriage act of 1667, does not mentioned who Pedro's parents were.

Link to Pedro Enriquez and Isabel Marriage Act (lower right corner):
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-15188-593-63?cc=1410092&wc=6…

We do know that Francisco Enriquez's marriage certificate (Nochistlan, 26 Feb 1702) with Ana Alvarez-Tostado, mentions his parents as being Pedro and Isabel.

Below is the link to all of Nochistlan, Zacatecas digitized church records, unfortunately familysearch folks need to reorganize to include Zacatecas, as well as other states, with the section where Jalisco resides in.

Sergio,

Thank you so much for the Zacatecas links; I was so hung up in FamilySearch's other linkages that I missed the Zacatecas records altogether. You're right; FamilySearch should reorganize their lists.

These records will document some very important connections in my database; thanks again.
